Hi hi hi!! I'm so glad you made it!! And yay for offering shout outs to your students! I can't wait to hear more about the magic in your classroom! #LaEdChat
Hello, #LaEdChat! It's Tammy Seneca from West Baton Rouge Parish. I'm the tech supervisor. I'm celebrating @sgauthier today! She is the master librarian and gave me so much help today @PortAllenPels!! She is what my Grandma calls, "Good people!"

A1: I see my 8th graders acting like young adults - stepping up to brainstorm action plans and getting involved in the bigger conversations that they're often left out of due to their age. Including them makes them feel important & results in the best solutions! #laedchat
A1: Definitely levels the playing field and shows them that our words have tremendous power. We need to stand in the place of the people that we speak to and ask, "Do I want that said to me?" #LaEdChat
A1: I love seeing students make connections and realize that what they are doing in the classroom can impact the community and has a purpose. #LaEdChat
A1: I am going to answer for the teachers that I work with... I am so excited to see our teacher's reactions when they open up their classroom world and breakdown the walls of the classroom. It's really magical! Makes the learning so meaningful! #LaEdChat

A1: When my 4th graders connect with other classrooms via GHO they come to really value the diversity we celebrate in our multiracial classroom. #LaEdChat
A1: I love seeing the light bulb go off! They understand that mistakes happen in the real world - and mistakes are nothing to be afraid of. They also quickly learn that we learn more from these mistakes than we do with correct answers. #LAEDChat
A1: My Ss' actions become more human. They are relatable, realizing there's a bigger picture. High schoolers are still learning about digital literacy and ethics, so the big picture is always trial and error. #LaEdChat

Hi Denise! I miss you!! So glad that you are here and celebrating spring break! I can't wait to hear how you add layers to the classroom, especially with technology! #LaEdChat
#laedchat It is important we promote that we live in One world, and there is always someone out there worse off than us. Our kids need to be part of the world, know about the world & learn with the world technology is the key.We need to focus on positive #Digcit not the negative
I love when that happens. So many children are afraid of crowds or presenting info I think bc they aren't exposed to it much. We can change that in our clsrms! #LaEdChat
A1: I love to see Ss model positive behavior from teachers. I think our actions and responses to world events and issues help Ss better understand and cope. #laedchat
Man, that is SO true. Nicest compliment I got this week was from an assistant at our school. She explained: "Your students know how to talk with one another." ๐ #LaEdChat
A1: Last year when a boy from Sudan in my classroom spoke to an 8th grader on a hangout who had completed a project about young boys being โstolenโ and put in the Sudanese army, it blew him away that he was speaking to someone who had escaped the horror. #LaEdChat
and I think your students might be too old *right now*, but when students are able to share with others, they learn so much. @EmpaticoOrg has some great resources. https://t.co/Tnil7N01Jv#LaEdChat
Hi All - Steve from NJ here. Was all ready at 7pm ET :) then of course got side tracked. How's everyone? I teach game design and development and have been part of a study on #VR in the classroom with @foundry10VR#LAEdchat
A2: It's crucial to set the bar right at the beginning of the year. One trick I use is to learn the kids' names before they walk through the door for meet the teacher. This creates a comfortable environment where they can flourish and they won't be afraid to share! #LaEdChat
A2: Having a discussion with @Flipgrid as a vehicle, quieter, fringe students can find confidence to share their views that they might not have the confidence to share face to face or in a classroom setting. Allows them a safe-space to build their self-esteem. #laedchat
#laedchat Q2) see kids being helpful to one another in my classroom I have children from self contained to gifted and I view patience and caring that is affirmation.
#laedchat Having a voice is one of the most powerful tools we can provide our Ss with. Having a voice opens up avenues they never knew exists, it connects them with the world, it allows them to that difference where minor or major. They have the power to be a changemaker.
Students learn more about geography when they are making connections with others through collaborative projects or commenting on blogs. Love #comments4kids to help with this. #LaEdChat
A2: We have to remember that sometimes, our classroom or school building is the ONLY place in a student's life where they hear positive messages about themselves. Affirmation makes them feel valued & loved, which results in more ability, capacity & desire to learn. #laedchat
A2: I feel like rewording the question as the answer. Affirmation is transformational when students are empowered to be experts and share their knowledge with others (peers or beyond - I love when my students give back to the greater learning community!) #LAEdchat
A2.2: Trust. Support. Willingness to listen from the start and to the end. Putting the students first help to foster a safe environment for sharing. #laedchat
A2: Letโs face it...weโre all still learning and figuring things out. But when youโre a student, your life can feel like itโs under a microscope. Having a little affirmation can give students the courage to keep on trying. #LaEdChat
That is beautiful. The big picture is there. We just have to embrace and acknowledge it. As @mbfxc says, "Be the Digital Change." https://t.co/Z8TOIpYPLe#LaEdChat

#LaEdChat 100% Megan, the kids I teach know yelling and being locked out of the house. They fight for survival on some day. The power of relationships is the key to changing a child's life even if that might be during school hours but that are empowered to then want to learn.
A2: I think it is a confidence builder!! Tech allows kids would are too shy to interact the avenue to do just that! You can't teach confidence... they have to earn it! #LaEdChat
A2: I think it's a growth mindset, more receptive. My Ss completed a project (creating study guides on @GetKahoot & @quizizz ). I had them give constructive criticism to each team. Learning how to talk to each other is paramount - less yelling, more listening. #LaEdChat
#laedchat A3 I am learning about this every day. By @m_drez adding topics like https://t.co/AuNKIZOzxR the world of gaming is becoming such an inherent part of my own learning journey. The potential is unlimited. I would love more examples on the grid.
A3: It's huge in my eyes! These experiences build confidence, problem solving skills, and forces kids to ask questions that they would not normally even be exposed to! #LaEdChat

A3: so much! Perseverance, problem solving, inquiry, critical thinking--and that's just as a consumer! HMW help Ss CREATE the experiences? #VR#AR@cospaces_edu@unity3d#LaEdChat
A3: #AR and #VR provide opportunities to explore learning that is not easily accessible or may be prohibitively expensive. Also, #XR provides wonderful opportunities to be immersed in learning experiences and go deeper when students are creating content in and for XR #laedchat
A3: There is purpose and storylines within gaming that has not been fully embraced in education. Kids can get lost in games because there is opportunity to fail, try again without consequence, and find success. Classrooms tend to be all-or-nothing. #laedchat
#LaEdChat Wow! Christina this amazes me. One of my daughters asked me to take her out of the Private School she was attending because the teachers showed not interest in her as a learner because she was the good kid. Made me sad that she was just a number in the room.
A3: There's DEFINITELY a place for AR / VR in classrooms. We use @MetaverseApp all the time! Here's an example of how we used it in a digital math breakout: https://t.co/sNeE7qJfrD#LAEdChat
Same reason I bought MergeCube for teachers - itโs a novelty item, but a strong teacher can turn that novelty into amazing learning opportunities #LaEdChat

All children should be celebrated for who they are and the talents, interests and skills they being with them everyday... Breaks my heart when it's not the case #notthenorm#LaEdChat#KidsDeserveIt
A4: Embrace #studentvoice! Students need to learn to create their own path!!! You also have to live my by favorite quote from @gcouros! You have to shoot for the heart... no student will come back to you in 20 yrs to thank you for that test review!!! #LaEdChat

@fmargret, @RWScholars, @mbfxc, @JoyceBronwyn, @gcouros
A4: Teachers can allow more opportunities for us to explore the topics that students are interested in or the important topics that are going on in society. #laedchat
A4: When we give students choice and let their passion drive the learning we support the whole child and empower them to learn based on their interest. After all, we are all much more excited about learning when it is relevant. #laedchat#stuvoice#stuchoice
A3: I had to read a book years ago for school about making learning like gaming. If Ss knew the clsrm was set up on dffrnt levels they cld take over again to go higher, then maybe our gradebooks wld mirror bank accts in black rather than Christmas tree lights! #LaEdChat
A4: #edcorps and @RWScholars have really helped my students explore creativity and their passions! I also love #geniushour and student choice projects! #LaEdChat
#laedchat A4 Connect your Ss with the world. Teach them about business, economic value. give them REAL world experiences where they have to problem solve, fail, regroup develop calls to action. As the #SDGs promote allow kids to be inventors, innovators and campaigners
A4: This is why I love @Flipgrid. The app (obviously) rules, but everyone behind the scenes is really just working towards one goal: #studentvoice. When you combine that with amazing educators, you hit all of those targets! #LaEdChat
A4: If you want your students to grow then #teachSDGs and connect students to other students. Itโs like an organic autonomy and engagement builder. Be prepared for awesome you never imagined to come your way. #LaEdChat
Question 5 is almost here! Thank god @mbfxc and @JoyceBronwyn are helping me-I want everyone to feel welcome and affirmed in the #LaEdChat (and I am decidedly behind!).
This is exactly what we need! Identify real problems in local, global & digital communities, connect to the #SDGs & solve them! Just like this students: https://t.co/EC9EY1SV8I#LaEdChat
Was in a chat last year with @EddiesClass and he remarked that in games we start kids a 0 and count up. In school we start kids at 100 and count down to 0. And why don't they like school? Hmmmm. #laedchat
We are way behind on this end too! Trying to tweet from multiple accounts side by side with Curran! Loving the conversation & holding on for dear life to keep up! #LaEdChat
A4: Allow students to give Ignite Talks or TED Talks about topic they are passionate about. Or how about a student-led Edcamp? Innovation Days put on by students. #LaEdChat
A4: I've been hearing a LOT about #personalizedlearning lately. It's already a hashtag. This amplifies #stuvoice . In our ever-changing profession, this meet up is constantly shifting. All we can do is introduce the idea. They'll have to take the reigns. #LaEdChat
#LaEdChat 100% agree Jo. Knowing what is going on behind the scenes and the passion for learning and students empowerment amazes me and makes my plight to make a difference so worthwhile. Team @Flipgrid are out of this world inspirational.

A3: I have used Minecraft for the last few years in my classes. I have used it to foster creativity, math, science, coding, history, social skills, religion, and economics. It allows you to morph it to fit almost any lesson. #laedchat
#LaEdChat Paula from San Diego jumping in on A3: AR/VR/MR = huge pedagogical potential for empathy, immersive experiences, & tech relevant content creation for demonstrating understanding. Quality VR design mirrors what we want in a quality learning environment.
A5: Stepping away from the front of the room & supporting our Ss as leaders gives them the motivation they need to show up, day after day. When they feel in charge of their own learning AND each other's learning (!), amazing things happen. #laedchat
This and more of this! We need more students presenting and sharing at workshops and conferences! I'd go to a student session every day of the week and twice of Sundays! #LaEdChat
A4: Allow students to give Ignite Talks or TED Talks about topic they are passionate about. Or how about a student-led Edcamp? Innovation Days put on by students. #LaEdChat
Yes! This is the purpose of #stuvoice. Thanks so much for reminding us that to be good citizens, you have to know what is going on in society. #LaEdChat
A4: Teachers can allow more opportunities for us to explore the topics that students are interested in or the important topics that are going on in society. #laedchat
A CEO told my 15 year old โYou are your own expert.โ Everyone brings unique experiences & expertise to the table & to OWN that. We need to let students do the same. #LaEdChat
I love these four pathways, and I think that these are exactly the layers that we are talking about tonight. I appreciate such a succinct way to look at it! #LaEdChat
A5: It creates a culture of learning - we are ALL learners. I have taken on the mantra that I learn With and From my students. It makes for such an exciting learning environment. Also, the kids see that they ARE experts in areas that are important to them #laedchat
A5: It gives them the opportunity to take the lead at 12 instead of 21. Gives them a platform to fail, rebuild, and try again. @LearnLAP is full of techniques that you can try in your classroom tomorrow. #laedchat
A5 Empowering students gets me thinking about teacher pedagogy knowing when to be the sage on the stage, guide on the side or the meddler in the middle #wearealllearners#LaEdChat
A5: Because just like in life.. we all have different things that we are good at and things we struggle to accomplish. Same with our students.. when we tap into those strengths.. we teach and they learn so much more than a book could every provide (and I love books)! #LaEdCHat

A5: It just puts learning into a whole new perspective. At this point, I think most educators see that. Yes, modeling is important (especially with my grade level), but if a student has an idea (right or wrong), let it play out! #LaEdChat
In my role as an ITS, we had 3rd graders students sign up for and lead #edcamp4kids it was so Awesome! Parents helped facilitate the half day event! Super fun! #studentsateleaders#laedchat
A5: If we are tasked with creating lifelong learners, than we had better be able to demo what lifelong learning looks like by letting our #stuvoice be front and center as we learn together. #LaEdChat
#laedchat A5 People enter my classroom & can never find me as I am always amongst my kids learning with them. When it comes to technology I give them the tools they teach me.The learning environment is always buzzing because my kids never know whats coming next.Nothing traditional
A6: They are always needed! They show us a world we donโt inhabit. We bring them in as much as we can - for knowledge building, prototyping, presentations, mentors #LaEdChat
A6: We have such wonderful opportunities to bring industry professionals to our students via @skype@neprissapp etc. Let them learn from people in the field. Brings much relevance to learning. Also opens great opportunities for mentoring from people in the field #laedchat
A6: At every step along their learning path. I think how becoming a connected educator helped me become a better teacher. Our students need connections that fuel their passions. #LaEdChat
A6: I certainly think it is important with this STEM push! We have some great partnerships with @DowCorps and Placid Refinery in WBR. They have provided so many real-world experiences for our students! @wbrrocks@STEM_Queen#LaEdChat

A6: Encourage kids to reach out directly to industry professionals - makes it even more meaningful when it comes from them. Right, @CurranCentral#stuvoice#laedchat
A6: Always. Answers the question of "When will I ever use this in real life?" Hard to argue with a professional. Learning becomes relevant instantly. @RaeHughart and @mdeegan122 have some theories on how to incorporate this into their math classes. #laedchat
Our lagniappe question is almost here! What a fantastic way connecting with everyone! One more question to think about how we connect with community and school. #LaEdChat
A6: We need diverse leaders to coach, support, and model effective leadership. We build community from inside the walls of our schools so that students can impact beyond the walls. #laedchat
#laedchat A6: Industry experts bridge the classroom and the real world, providing authentic context for the content, as well as opening S's minds to new gig possibilities.
A5: I just wanna facilitate. When my Ss take the lead, I have taught. Besides, talking an entire 90 minutes is BORING! I would much rather hear all of their expertise! Brains exploding all day every day! The convo they can have w/each other outweighs my words any day. #LaEdChat
#laedchat A6 I believe schools should have a community hour where people from different professions share their journeys with the students. Give kids opportunities to follow their dreams know about work. Its all about making our kids FUTURE READY.
A6: Encourage kids to reach out directly to industry professionals - makes it even more meaningful when it comes from them. Right, @CurranCentral#stuvoice#laedchat
Michael, I can't remember if you teach any science...but last year I was able to communicate with an astronaut who (previously) was on the ISS. Just reach out to the #AskNasa tag. They're awesome about getting back to you! #LaEdChat
