Podcasts are pretty awesome. I look forward to blasting through a ton of them this summer
That's awesome! You need to tape that and share it!

Love this... ownership of errors/missteps make educators real. It could have been posed as a question; just saying!
Thanks for being here, Bret! Did you see the Blab webinar tomorrow from

A1: Twitter, podcasts, and blogs have been great resources this year.
Thanks for being here Nevin!
Fingers crossed! If not, can I eat Chipotle in his place?
Bobby, what does Flipboard do for you?
A1: Presenting and writing blogs more has made me research more!
A1: I atteneded an for the first time. I am taking PD that provides fuel for the students I have now
A1: Twitter def best means of ownership. I need to get back into blogging though. Learn by doing. Not just by watching.
A1 Attending Next Generation Leadership Academy @ UK looking forward!
A1 I've "owned" opportunities I've been afforded to connect with who inspire me to delve into best practices.
Sweet! Would love your feedback afterwards!
A1-I also challenged myself to write a blog post once a week all school year and so far I've done it!
I just do the every period of the day..... so "brunch"
*** Question 2 in 1 minute ***
A1: Paid attention to own curiosity and passions, makes learning so much fun. Lots of listening to Ts to learn from them.
Anyone here use ? Great podcasts--love listening to these while driving.
I must admit that the resources gained especially the Inner-Generational Mentoring have been incredible.
A1: Tried out my first edcamp and wrote my first blog post. Both outside my comfort zone but great learning experiences.
I made this goal also, and unfortunately I have fallen behind. I need to do a better job of doing it even when busy
works cause NO pressure......
Absolutely! You know you are always welcome to Columbus with a meal and place to stay!
A1: we're shaking up teams a bit for next year so we've been meeting more to collaborate and listen...sorry couldn't resist 😁
A1: I actively seek new ideas and tools. Twitter works best for me. Must seek things out. Always learning.
Good lord! What doesn't it do? Tons of blogs, resources, etc based on what I am looking for
BreAnn - hope you can make the on July 11 - check it out!
This guy has a lot to offer, greatly appreciated what he had to say at https://t.co/ZIMIrriFz7
A1: Tried out my first edcamp and wrote my first blog post. Both outside my comfort zone but great learning experiences.
A1: sorry for being late! I have reflected more about what I have done to see where I can improve. I've gathered more and shared!
Hi Everyone! Angie for Worthington Kilbourne HS here...
I also attended my first this year! https://t.co/Gi4qDenbbI
A1: Tried out my first edcamp and wrote my first blog post. Both outside my comfort zone but great learning experiences.
A1: Attended last weekend. Good just to be present, share, and learn.
On my way! Sorry ! Lol hat
I make myself have it written by Friday. As Seth Godin says you have to have a deadline to "ship".
A1: made it a point to apply to present at as many conferences as possible. That way, I can attend for free!
A1 Had my first experience in a Google Hangout with live with my class yesterday. Great way to take ownership of PD
That's awesome, Jaime! I've got it going in the background and my son is cheering them on!
A2: For me, the key to prof learning/growth is choice. When I choose where to grow, it happens
That's awesome! Block off July 11 for
EdCamp! and I love us some EdCamp check out in August!
A2: open sharing and discussions have been best. also helps me grow every time I teach it. Look at other viewpoints
I've tried doing that. Did pretty good for the first month, then schoolwork got in the way. Need to get back into it.
Nice Greg! Great job! Keep going!
Being authentic and transparent in the pursuit of being better....as an admin, advocate 4 Ss, instructional ldr, etc
A2: The ability to engage with other people in real time to talk through issues
A2. Quick bursts of PD that are applicable, relevant, empowering and fun. Like edchats and .
A2: working with other professionals who have the same improvement goal.
A2: PD with most growth: anything that pushes me a bit outside my comfort zone, pushes my thinking.
A2: accessing edchats that fit my schedule has been a great approach for me. Allows me to fit in my learning on MY time
A2: Personalized PD has greatest impact. Ts share strengths and learn from each other on areas they want to improve.
A2: every time that I try, the outcome is learning. Connections are key.
There was just a great chat on about EdCamps. Read through it if you get a chance!
I echo that - reflection has been a huge part of my learning!
A2: best part by far is the range of choices available to meet a wide range of personal growth & classroom needs
A2. . Choice is by far the best. Edcamp lets us walk if not interested. All PD should be the same way. https://t.co/G3fmy92zVs
A2: When educators get to interact with professional dialogue about things that matter to them and are able to be used tomorrow.
A1: I've also taken it upon myself to research new resources...like Twitter chats!
I agree-when I take time to reflect and see things for what they really are, I grow the most https://t.co/rQ69147jkx
I echo that - reflection has been a huge part of my learning!
A2: Not be afraid to take risks and try something new. One's growth just doesn't impact themselves but others too.
A2: making it more personalized for myself & being connected. You do those 2 things, you will have no excuses about growth
A2: Identifying areas that need work, and finding ways to improve them. Key has been focusing on interests/needs,not just anything
A2: it's been personalized with the opportunity to network. We learn together and we grow together!
I'm sure that will increase with the too!
Absolutely! Time to reflect and learn from each other in real time cannot be minimized. https://t.co/egBkOCjYhn
A2: The ability to engage with other people in real time to talk through issues
A2: The impact of student growth and how we (as educators) will respond.
Connected educators
pilot new formative assessment tech to benefit student learning and professional growth
A2 The ability to share, ask questions, and seek guidance on the implementation of strategies - how I can make them better
I agree - it is empowering when we are in charge of our own learning!
A2:by joining chats from other parts of the US & abroad, has allowed me to get a variety of opinions/thoughts I might not get here
I agree. The personalization portion is dead-on
A1 Prof learning is a journey where choice leads to voice. (Carol ELA Consultant here from Long Island).
Thank you, will check it out!
A2 Honoring that "we are learners first" and that I am a "work in progress" has proven to keep learning a joyful experience.
A2: By far talking and learning from others.Connections I've made this year are amazing! I've learned more than I ever imagined!
A2: Making it collaborative
A2: able to be passionate with other educators who are just as passionate
A2: Interactivity. Something more than just another lecture. As a college student, I get sick of lectures. https://t.co/GHyVkDrhul
A2: The common theme for great PD is relevant content and the ability to collaborate with colleagues.
A2 Don't underestimate power of PD that celebrates the best of what's happening in your building. Helps move the reluctant too.
Right, Tricia. Our main goal of PD efforts is to facilitate our individual growth and spur others' growth
A2: Time for genuine dialogue focused on student growth and achievement.
A2: When there's been time to collaborate w/others & hear speakers, not being rushed or a packed schedule.
Great perspective - it's definitely humbling to see how much I have yet to learn!
A2: The collaborative nature of all the professional learning is common characteristic for all I have done.
So true!! I love how big my professional world has gotten thanks to Twitter! https://t.co/QYO3l0mfEF
A2:by joining chats from other parts of the US & abroad, has allowed me to get a variety of opinions/thoughts I might not get here
absolutely. Putting together a group of like minded people who get it is awesome
A2 Open mindedness & being approachable. You can learn or share with anyone!! The world is your audience & also your teacher!
Love that perspective. Aligning ourselves with improvement rather than perfection.
A2 "We are ALL learners" -- sounds cliche but has been transformative
A2: Collaboration and "student centered". Stay away from the same stand and deliver we tell Ts to stay away from
A2: asking for help when needed! Sometimes asking leads to thoughts that collaboration can be the answer! Build a relationship.
samesies. I know it's important but keep letting it not happen. 😩
what do you suggest in terms of making time for this dialogue
So true, not much more that gets me excited than meeting passionate educators who truly, I mean truly care.
A2: Another hallmark is learning during the unstructured time in a free environment
So true! Twitter chat groups allows for this! EdCamps too! https://t.co/rZJBNPdsjE
A2: able to be passionate with other educators who are just as passionate
THIS ===> https://t.co/OlpyOJhJj7
A1 Prof learning is a journey where choice leads to voice. (Carol ELA Consultant here from Long Island).
Agree, Dennis. I believe this applies to all of us
A2 - Unfortunately, I don't feel this has been done where I am. We seem to be trying to force fit into a format we don't need
Love that idea! Could you share that resource?
yep. Same thing with Coaching. Even better if you can do so in a relaxed environment...such AMAZING dialogue
BOOM -- yes. Model Growth Mindset so powerful is such a model leader https://t.co/KY3XYyztHz
Love that perspective. Aligning ourselves with improvement rather than perfection.
I agree - I've learned a lot during breaks, car rides, meals, and just hanging out!
Nothing better than this, true learning usually is not planned
I appreciate your use of the word "samesies"
Yes, Neil. The unexpected times of learning seem to be the deepest, & most authentic!
A2:
If was assignment, would you be here?
If no one responded to anything you shared, would you stay?
Value of choice & voice
I learn so much more when I collaborate. Professional reading is good. Talking about it in book club is AWESOME.
great way to sum it up. Well stated!
*** Question 3 for in 1 minute ***
I might try that. Thanks for the suggestion!
A2 reminding myself to serve & empower others out of love & care. Put relationships 1st.
OOOO! I'd love to hear more about this.
Yes! There's a reason it's cliche.... some truth to it. Just bc we are tired of the term, doesn't mean it's bad.
A2.1: I have also enjoyed the dialogue, reflection and support with others that may be working through similar encounters
Thanks, Brian. Will you join & join
me 4 my next gallery, Spring's Seeds. Voice Soars.
to quote start small and never give up.
That's tough - don't get bogged down by it - Model the Way!
That goes without saying...
or even better face to face. Twitter is awesome but still held back by impersonal nature of elec. comm
Love these chats and how they make us grow.
A2: Great points. Appreciate this take and how you frame our learning. We have a choice. https://t.co/67tdRqMOvn
A2:
If was assignment, would you be here?
If no one responded to anything you shared, would you stay?
Value of choice & voice
LaVonna - I think you need to plan a trip back on July 11 for our
Yes! had hour bw sessions this yr...actually had time to say hi to ppl & share what was learned.
But what makes this fun is then meeting my PLN in conferences and .
No doubt! You can keynote!
Yes! That's awesome that they did that - allow the professionals to be professional with their time!
A2 , and my boss have all led me the same direction. Student voice, student choice. I struggle to square that w/ testing
A3: the vastness of choice has been the best diffetentiation I've found.
A3: being able to pick and choose chats based on current needs of Ss and myself. Culture, SBL, etc...it's all here for us
A3: Choice break-out sessions
A3: State dept of ed does not mandate the grad courses for recert.
I often wish I could "warp" myself into the school/ location where my fav Tweep just posted
A3 - T led training on Google 'products' IE classroom, scholar, and more
I agree! So many ways to participate in professional learning. Hoping to find more ways this summer! https://t.co/HdsfNcue1Q
A3: the vastness of choice has been the best diffetentiation I've found.
A3: The best way has been that my district lets me seek out and attend workshops/PD of my choice. 2nd is thru many books I read
A3: I appreciate the edchats and groups that allow me to explore my own learning and at my own pace!
A3 Can't seem to think of a time 🤔
A2 Part 2: Going outside of your comfort zone. I've found through doing this that we build a bond and create new friendships
is the best ex of differentiated choice learning. 3 on Long Island: ,
I have the date free... (Have to be in FL to present next 2 days tho).
A3: Time to dialogue, process and reflect on the "ah-ha" moments.
A3: Given choice in content, method, etc. We did some break out sessions this year, which were a welcome change.
A3: At the Spring Conference, we were able to choose different sessions to attend.
For real?! You do understand you may be stuck with me now. ha ha
A3: also working with great leaders who allow you to pattern their model to what would fit you best like !
A3: attending an event, the ability to go an have an open forum to discuss trending topics within education.
not often differentiated in my experience. :( so many preterm meetings feel unnecessary to me, reviewing routines i know
We typically have about 10.5 hours of PD required each year & can choose how to do that. Love the choice!
A2: PD that is practical, relevant & creates excitement to want to come back to school and try it https://t.co/TL8xvbNthf
A3: Teaching with about topics that we enjoy has made me learn more than I would attending a PD. Step out and lead
A3: I’ve lead PD by using SOLE. T’s research diff topics for 30 min and then present findings to all. https://t.co/dqYRJYMbL8
indeed. Some of the spontaneous chats at PD/Clinics are the best ones. AWESOME ideas
Start thinking (maybe a poem will pop to go w it). I'll send invite soon.
I've also focused on breakout sessions where teachers choose what they want to learn about.
A3: I seek out PD and attempt to deliver it in the same format. Offer choice, tailor the instruction, meet the needs.
A3: By topic & available time are the 2 biggest ways this PD is differentiated. I learn what I want, when I want. End of story!
LaVonna is coming back home - OH!
A3: Essential Questions w/ built in time to develop plan of attack!
Love when I go to school after a great and my Ss, say "Dude, Miller you were blowing up my feed last night" makes me laugh
A3: has to be the menu- just like Burger King's slogan "have it your way"
A3: Breakout sessions at conference last weekend, some had you working with strangers, others up and moving, etc
A3: Our last PD: focused on , instructional strategies, and content...each of those had 3 sesh for Ts to choose, all T led
Always the best plus ours have bonus: kicks the LI off. A3
A3: differentiated Pd. choice. Webinars. I've been enjoying & learning from 's monthly google user meetings.
A3:Feel fortunate cuz trouble answering..all my PD is personalized. My choice or not, I have power w/ what I take from opportunity
A3: I appreciate having an element of choice and plenty of time for discussion.
Still working on this. I love my comfort zone more than I should. :-)
thoughts on how to break that practice? Does the leadership not embrace the idea of diff PD?
You can make PD what you want in today's world! There's something or someone you can learn from daily if you look for it!
Sierra - block off July 11 for
I agree. I love the time to talk to colleagues. That's why I love EdCamp-so much networking time. https://t.co/WnlrUKmFZj
A3: I appreciate having an element of choice and plenty of time for discussion.
Sierra, we are thinking and saying the same things again... Uh oh
A2 Hands-on interactive learning with passion is my mantra when delivering PD.
A3. Has to be choice. If tech, please indicate if beginner, intermediate, etc. No lecture. No recitation of PPT filled with text.
that is awesome! Spread that message of your experiences. Others can grow from it.
In a state with Neil vs. In a state without Neil.... no confusion there :)
Now that's a concept to make happen!
dabbling in webinars too. Watching and creating. Good stuff. Quick, simple, immediate.
A3 Our District has signups 2X/year for PD; Ts sign up for sessions they feel necessary; no sessions are mandatory.
A3 this is a positive forum, convenient and accessible.
I'm grateful everyday to learn with and from selfless role models and loyal friends...like you Don.
A3: To echo a few others, finding what works and tailoring to you and your audiences needs.
We have to be our own advocates for our own professional development. https://t.co/bMdZSAIdAE
A3: I've been through seminars, EdCamps, Twitter chats, and faculty meetings. The ones where my voice was heard was best!!!
Everything is a balance just as you pointed out.
No kidding. Maybe we need to have an edcampOHEDCHAT
It's bound to come up eventually. Oh well, here we go! :-)
A3: Led by T's. Like that! Always a need to find balance. Amazing resources. https://t.co/lmjqBFXQQb
A3: Our last PD: focused on , instructional strategies, and content...each of those had 3 sesh for Ts to choose, all T led
That is the key-voice needs to rise and be validated. A3
Some of my most fave moments. Instant connection.
A3: Like book studies with staff who are interested and talking about it. Leads to positive results for our school
Sierra, living begins at the end of your comfort zone,,,
Small group with lots of good sharing-always works! A3
I have it blocked off, still need to register. Can't wait to go!
Donald - I have a place for you to stay anytime you come to Ohio! Would love to meet up with you!
A3: trying to convince to do an style inservice day. Choice. Voice. Learning.
A3: choice is key! Giving Ts ownership of their learning can be transformational to any building!
**** Question 4 for in one minute ***
exactly, you can be a "victim" or collaborator to your PD.
Embedded PD - the best kind!
really appreciate how Eric puts out the agenda beforehand. I know when to tune in! & they are archived
got to step out-Proposal due. Thanks for great conversation with friends.
Great connections to have then. Those that not only talk, but model.
hey there Jay! Glad you dropped in on !
Awesome! I'll charge up the selfie stick!
Gotta run. Thanks for having me this evening.
Thanks for being here, Brian!
A3: Just wrapped up one and going to consider starting another. Awesome convo's with passionate T's! https://t.co/EuYX3NM6mQ
A3: Like book studies with staff who are interested and talking about it. Leads to positive results for our school
My friends not only talk but walk the walk.
Thanks Craig, great to be here. - Its always good to come home. https://t.co/5eDQCdqQP9
hey there Jay! Glad you dropped in on !
hahaha fair warning, Sierra and I are friends from OUL, this is normal
I'm finding it tough to listen to ed speakers who aren't sharing their lrng openly. Anyone else? Are talking talk but not walking.
it's just preterm that feels unnecessary. rest of PD gets changed up by getting Ts involved in leading sessions
We did a conference style PD for the district and we've done it for a few staff meetings now.
Ooohhhh... Nice! Any reason for me to return (except in winter). Ha ha
Ooohhhh... Nice! Any reason for me to return (except in winter). Ha ha
A3: Finding/catering creative ways to engage grad students who r pursuing to become future principals and superintendents is key.
A4: without a doubt it is about growth, and how that growth can have impact on so many people
A4: The best PD doesn't just change me in my job but me as a person!
It makes sense theoretically, it's just getting me to apply it. Which means getting out of my comfy comfort zone.
A4: it also has to be on-going
A4: or because you just really love the content. I'll be starting my 2nd masters soon just because I love Geoscience.
A4: if you tell kids to learn something new but you goose not to, you have zero credibility. End of discussion. How dare you?
A4-I think the key word is "choice"-when we make the choice to grow we go farther-learning can't be forced-it's a mindset.
well that's possible 364 days a year in Ohio
A4: As often says: It's a cavern between those most effective edus and the least effective.
My house is always open! Trying to get to come up!
https://t.co/D4RUrn9fLt
A4: As often says: It's a cavern between those most effective edus and the least effective.
A4: I have to make the best of each lesson. There's a reason why I'm there and I need to be aware of my growth while there!
A4: Not everyone wants to be indispensable
A4: it's a commitment to self, team, building or district. It is for something greater than the common good. It's a desire
A4: I wish more Ts & administrators knew about this secret world of Pd. It makes me better at my job.
Determining a practice to best measure this true growth is key! https://t.co/ulUZxgyoJr
A4: without a doubt it is about growth, and how that growth can have impact on so many people
Love this quote - it's better to burn out than rust out...
A4:PL is a conscious decision based on a growth mindset - We have to strive to become great and know that each step improves us
A4: YES! That's been my whole year. You have to want it, go out of your comfort zone & be willing to change & listen
Yes, unfortunately this is normal. :-)
A4: How am I supposed to be current and effective if I don't continue to learn and better myself?
Stole the words right out of my mouth https://t.co/iv3U01WukU
A4: if you tell kids to learn something new but you goose not to, you have zero credibility. End of discussion. How dare you?
A4 - Gift of education! If you can't be excited to learn then teaching is probably not the career choice for you! Learning=Passion

A4: without a doubt it is about growth, and how that growth can have impact on so many people
Thanks for being here Big Guy!
A4: Take our "professional" and that summarizes the ideals of learning.
I need to jump off to finish prepping for tomorrow! Thx for letting me pop in !
absolutely. We need to reflect and evaluate ourselves as much if not more than Ss
A4: I try to stay current in the daily news looking for content specific topics and post those stories to my class webpage.
A4: Yes! Choice is important I've enjoyed the PD that I have chosen to participate in more than those I was told I had to be at.
Missed a couple of weeks. Glad to be back on tonight. Howard Crawford in Savannah
A4 agree with quote, but worth adding caveat that true personal fulfillment doesn't come from job. Work is not be all end all.
A4: Speaking personally: I know I am a better learner, educator, & person because of the skills & concepts I've nurtered in PD.
A4: It's a responsibility for us to implement what we have learned from good PD sessions and share with colleagues.
I have to step out early as well. Thanks to the moderators! Have a great rest of the week everyone!
Good to see you tonight. Hope our paths cross again soon
I say it all the time! I don't know what else to do to encourage others! https://t.co/QczCuoSW8B
A4: I wish more Ts & administrators knew about this secret world of Pd. It makes me better at my job.
A4: I've never understood Ts who don't think they can/need to continue to learn. Ts need to model learning for Ss

Couldn't agree more, Neil! Great relaxed forum w/ amazing return on "future investments" when needed!
A key to successful professional learning is less about it being an isolated event and more about it being a process.
A4: A career in education is a commitment to ongoing learning. If you're not growing, you're dying.
A4: I can't continue to do things they've always been done. Professional benefits the entire school community...especially Ss!
A4: My response: I want to be around more of those people. So I keep going to get myself closer.
That's where I am these days - no more workshops in isolation!
A4: How do we get Ss to see the importance of or continued growth? Does it steam from motivation?
A4: Gotta push yourself every day. Get better or get worse...for you and your students.
at this year's convocation, I led over 300 Ts in a It was awesome! So many Ts have used it since.

encourage them to plug into what interests them. I teach because I'm interested in science. Learn what you enjoy!
A4: Not all of my PD has been a "conscious effort." I've had some great coaches that push me even when I didn't think I needed it

A5: Being here stems directly from PD conducted in our school by

A4 Consciousness is the root of all learning.Improvement begins w the need to breathe in the next moment; Its all about the future

A5. Every app or chrome ext known to mankind, I’ve tried. That’s my problem:)
A5: Reflection: teaching Ss to reflect on what worked, what didn't, what we still need to learn. Habit of mind.

keep sharing. We are listening. Our learning should be applicable or let's skip it.
Learning Twitter (thank you ) then getting members of my team making it part of their PLN

And it's super important to let Ss hear each other, not just the perspective of the Ts / adults.
always glad to be growing professionally with my fellow educators
*** Final Q for in one minute ***
