Hello, my name is Chris (MS principal) from KC. Being a Head Coach taught me great examples of leadership and creating culture. I learned importance of developing others and positivity. #EdCoChat

Andrew, elementary principal in Denver! In high school our task was to rethink a Shakespeare play and create a way to share our idea. We rewrote and filled a music video with a song we wrote and acted out! We loved to play music and I loved filmmaking! #EdCoChat
#edcochat I'm Amie - Ed Tech Specialist from Jeffco. My favorite authentic experience was going to Young Ameritowne. It was real life application and we practice adult/life skills!

A1: Engagement is key. How we engage all students has everything to do with the work we design for them.
Relationships and student empowerment are also keys to unlocking deeper learning!
#EdCoChat#JeffcoGenerations
#edcochat I think amplifying student voice and choice is huge. Shifting the decision making and problem solving to the students and away from the teacher. How can we help students have more control over time, place, path and space? eh, @CathyBJeffco ?
A1: When we are designing our instruction we must understand the cognitive process and cognitive demand. We can support learners to move to the deeper end of the pool when we intentionally plan and scaffold for higher levels of Bloom's and Webb #EdCoChat#JeffcoGenerations
A1 It is important that the task is something that empowers the learners, is a real task in the school or community and that they believe they can help create positive change. Empowerment is key #EdCochat
ENGAGEMENT! The more authentic and relevant the task, the more engagement and buy in! Ss need to know the why and then need to be challenged with the how. #EdCoChat
I worked at the nature shop and my dad was the manager of the bank. I still remember him coming dressed up in his suit and tie that day to host interviews for tellers. I didn't make the cut, but it's a lesson in the real world I'll never forget! #edcochat
Q2: How do you communicate learning targets and success criteria to your students? How does it help to empower all students? #EdCoChat#JeffcoGenerations
Having our kids identify the problem is a great way to make it authentic to them. When we think of PBL, if the driving question is generated by the teacher, it's not as authentic as it could be. #EdCoChat
A2: We need to deeply understand the performance expectations of a few, select Focus Standards and then communicate the learning in student-friendly language - including success criteria! #edcochat#jeffcogenerations
A2: #EdCoChat
I think that's a great question. Does every students learning target and success criteria need to be the same? How can we use differentiation and items like play lists to individualize the learning for students?
A2 It is important to share a model or exemplary work that you want in success criteria.....this helps to set the bar - if kids see the bar and get support they will get over that bar. Empowering learners allows kids to feel like they are valued and desire to excel. #EDCoChat
Q2: How do you communicate learning targets and success criteria to your students? How does it help to empower all students? #EdCoChat#JeffcoGenerations
#EdCoChat I love the idea of 1 column rubrics from @cultofpedagogy . When I defined what a 4 was, I sometimes limited my students. Outlining success but not defining the top of the rubric helped some of my students push boundaries and go way, way, way beyond.
A2: I have a big and bold learning target and success criteria board. I bring students up to “celebrate” it every time it’s updated. I’ll have to share a video... hard to explain! It gets Ss excited, out of their seats, and ready to dive in! #EdCoChat
Q2: How do you communicate learning targets and success criteria to your students? How does it help to empower all students? #EdCoChat#JeffcoGenerations
Q3: Future ready students must be able to solve complex problems. How can we frame problems and challenges to build this competency? #EdCoChat#JeffcoGenerations
A3 We must build up students to be able to do this (practice and model how to work in groups, communicate).... but then pose the challenge in a way that provide supports and times for formative assessment and feedback. #EdCoChat
Q3: Future ready students must be able to solve complex problems. How can we frame problems and challenges to build this competency? #EdCoChat#JeffcoGenerations
A 3: I think there are everyday problems we overlook and solve for our students because we can and because it's easy. Having students identify the problem and go through process like the design thinking process is a way to get some deep thinking #EdCoChat
A3: we have to knock down the walls of content and make these cross curricular so that students are seeing that these skills we teach go together! Also bringing in professionals in the field as mentors - WRHS did this with mock trials and it was awesome #EdCoChat
#edcochat A3 Cont. Today in a PLC we talked about how problem solving strategies like 3 Act Tasks in math can be used in other areas. See lots of trash on the ground... that's an engaging problem. Seek info and determine a solution. Discuss, reveal solutions, extend! Bam!
I think practicing with small every day problems helps build the skills kids need to tackle bigger problems and large-scale PBLs. We need the problem solving process to be 2nd nature to students. #EdCoChat
A4: Some ideas....know standards....provide enriching tasks....give time for exploration (ex. Genius Hour)....analyze student understanding....provide enrichments and interventions as needed.....Have to move beyond those 1st two PLC questions....#EdCoChat#JeffcoGenerations
Give kids a reason to use the content and they will amaze us....PBL and Design Thinking are great ways to solve relevant problems that involve rigor. #EdCoChat
A3: Struggle is what comes to mind. Keep Ss on their toes with having to struggle, problem solve, collaborate, create, and be even be uncomfortable! #EdCoChat
Q3: Future ready students must be able to solve complex problems. How can we frame problems and challenges to build this competency? #EdCoChat#JeffcoGenerations
#edcochat Bonus: I think looking at the rigor and relevance is key. Are the students engaged in the learning, or because the task is fun. You can have one without the other.
I think it's easy to pull in parents or other teachers in the building or from the district office. In reality, they are more engaging than nobody, but they are not authentic. Professionals with jobs in the field of study is what makes it so authentic and special. #edcochat
