Hello out there to all you #twitter@Twitter users. It is time for #resiliencechat
I'm Rob Martinez, @ResiliencyGuy and often known as @DrRobM_FSUSD and tonight, I will be moderating our chat. Please join in, share your impressions, and opinions. We are a #Resilient community!
We use a Q and A format, and ask that you all use the #resiliencechat hashtag in all of your responses, so everyone can follow the convo.
Please introduce yourself, and let us know where you are from.
#Resiliencechat Tonight’s Topic: Can you judge a book by it’s cover? And, if you can, how might these and other books help your build #resilience in yourself, and those you serve? Yep, as summer is around the bend, and school is ending, think books!
#resiliencechat
#Resiliencechat#Tidbit Reasons that reading is good for the soul: 1. Books help you believe in a better world. 2. They promote creativity and wit. 3. They are a healthy escape. 4. They make you laugh, cry and appreciate life.
#Resiliencechat#Tidbit 2 - More reasons: 5. They make you think. 6. They help us see a future to believe in and build. 7. They make anything seem possible.
Tonight I want to share just a snapshot of several books that I think could positive impact #resilience development for each of us, and for those we serve, and would appreciate each of you sharing some that have positively impacted your life as well. #resiliencechat

Let's do some judging! Well Kind of: I present Lead Like A Pirate #LeadLAP
Couple Q's
Q1 - set
Do you get an impression just from the cover?
What type of amazing adventure do you think awaits?
Dave Burgess's wife?
This has got to be an amazing read, right?
A1 Well, of course that's a marketing tactic. I am not sure if I would pick that up or pass it by based on the title and the cover. I would be skeptical. #resiliencechat
#Resiliencechat A1: It definitely seems like an engaging book! I would love to know how a pirate leads (Focus on treasure?). Adding to my shopping cart now!
#resiliencechat A1 set: This cover is of course amazing—it doesn’t make any promises to the reader up front but you better be ready for this ride. It’s obvi an adventure that can change how one leads professionally and personally as well. It’s gotta be an amazing read ;)

What I can share is that this book captured and #inspired over 160 Certificated and Classified Administrators in @FairfieldSuisun and launched some fantastic professional development that was considered "Best Ever" This book changed a #Culture! @BethHouf
I personally don't find the cover design appealing. But that is what makes me curious about this book. Has a taste of witty rebellion to it.#Resiliencechat

"Pushing Boundaries and Challenging Conventional Thinking"
If you could really make a difference, would you?
If you had the ability to make decisions that mattered, would you?
If you had the chance to ensure that children received the best? WY?

#Resiliencechat A2: Kids deserve so much that I wonder what this book will be about. I know at this time of year, kids deserve a lot more than they are getting from an exhausted and emotionally drained teaching staff. Our teachers need resilience at this time of year too!
@mradamwelcome and @TechNinjaTodd offer what seems like over a million ideas for connecting with students, staff members, and engaging them in an amazing ride that is their education.
#resiliencechat
So true Nina, I think that is why I wanted to share some of these books and ideas so that people can consider some new ideas as they re-energize and reflect over the summer recess.

unconditional acceptance and providing an environment where kids feel safe to be who they are is working for me with regards to resilience
#resiliencechat:
Yes, Yes, Yes! If we want the same world we had 100 years ago, well, then let's just keep kids in rows, maintain quiet in classes, and only teach one way to do anything! NOOOOOO! We must evolve! #resiliencechat
That is what I find refreshing about chats like this one. Discovering that the teaching profession has evolved since the time I was a kid. And also sort of envious. #resiliencechat
#Resiliencechat A2 Answer is Yes of course. But the real question that underlines here is about having the backbone to stand up for what we believe in. At the cost of status quo? No. With wisdom.. Yes.
Let's examine a book that can lead to change across our lives!
#Mindset by #CarolDweck
Thoughts about the cover, or impressions from those who have read this book, or have heard Dr. Dweck speak? Do please share!

#Resiliencechat I have heard a few of Dr. Dweck's talks on growth mindset & we discuss it in my Masters program. We encourage & teach this in our school & it really helps with student resiliency. Students need to learn that failure is not absolute, it is an opportunity to grow.
#CarolDweck discusses the wonderful possibilities and success that comes from not having a #fixedmindset and the importance of finding #flexibility being able to #stretch and see a new #future. Important to build schools that seek to meet the needs of our children #resiliencechat
Parenting, business, school, relationships....something most, or at least many educated humans deal with in the course of their life. Who wouldn't want to improve their own quality of life in those areas? #resiliencechat
I have read and reread the next two books, and believe that they are important in their ability to help individuals to #reflect and #reset their personal direction. So take a look, find these books, enjoy them, and find your way! #resiliencechat
A2 I have talked about what a negative experience I had with teachers K-12. The teaching profession is definitely going in the right direction. I could tell you stories about admins I have known and not loved, but, overall, a vast improvement. #resiliencechat
Amazing book #1 #resiliencechat
"Leading in a Culture of Change" by @MichaelFullan1
Focus if you will on the picture before you. What do you see? What might be the challenge?
Just to be clear, I am getting no royalties for sharing any of these books, just thought we could examine a few summer reading opportunities for educators. #resiliencechat
A3 When I lose my hair, I intend to wear my pussy ears hat as a one woman protest from the chemo chair. Given the seriousness of my cancer, I hope I can see more than glimpses of a new world. #resiliencechat
q3: I think people should always strive to grow their intelligence in one way or another. I def think the category of 'emotional intelligence' is underrated and underserved more than the other varieties, especially in our ed system. An area to improve for all. #resiliencechat
What is that man supposed to be doing on the cover of "Leading in a Culture of Change?" And why is he wearing a beige suit? How conventional. #resiliencechat
Much like dancing on the head of a pin, Michael Fullan discusses how our environments are always changing, and that when we strive to be who we should be we will have more success in that ever changing world. #resiliencechat

#resiliencechat 2nd book from @MichaelFullan1 that changed my life:
"The Six Secrets of Change"
What the Best Leaders Do to Help Their Organizations Survive and Thrive.
Has anyone else done read this book? If not, I highly recommend it!
