Thank you so much to @RaeHughart for hosting an incredible #122edchat tonight! Head over now to #fearlessedchat to keep the party going, then join me back at #scitlap at 8pm CST!
Hey everyone! Phil from Northern, VA. I teach 7th grade US History II at an amazing school with amazing people like @misskoplin and @PHausTech#fearlessedchat
Showed up a little late to #122edchat (Chinese food beckoned đ) but letâs go with #fearlessedchat ! Alyssa, High School Social Studies, Southeastern PA!
A1: Had a student last year who really pushed the limits with all Ts. Barely made it through the year. But whenever he had a bad day, he'd ask @_on11 and I for a pep talk to get him back on track. Forever changed how I look at my Ss. #fearlessedchat
A1: Students have kept me humble and have giving me moments of pride that are hard to touch. Ss have inspired me to be more creative and embrace new things, even if I don't understand them.
#fearlessedchat
A1: I can jokingly say that they give me netflix recommendations. However truthfully, my students have shown me the benefits of showing grace when reaching kids who are rejected elsewhere, and then they use that grace to grow. #fearlessedchat
A1 as a whole my students are a great reminder of how sometimes we get way too caught up in content and not enough in setting a great example of how to talk to each other. #fearlessedchat
A1- Several Ss stick out to me over the past 10 years... they have all made me angry, happy, cry... but they have all affected my teaching & heart in countless ways. #fearlessedchat

A1: Finding out that the kids really care about us. I mean, they are legitimately concerned when we are down. Never really considered that before. Back me up, @megan_hacholski. #fearlessedchat
A1: Itâs easy to remember the ones that turn your good day bad, but thereâs no better feeling than to hear a kid tell you âthank youâ. It is a genuine, offhanded comment that often carries more meaning than we recognize. #fearlessedchat
A1: I had a Lil boy who taught me that love can break through the darkest of situations and that NO child should go without a little love each day #fearlessedchat
A1. I'll cheat a little and say my 3rd grade son. He learns so differently, and he gets so excited about certain aspects of learning. I watch the things that "turn him off" and try to NOT do those things in my classroom #fearlessedchat

A1. After 20 years way too many. The best are when you get invited to wedding and get birth announcements or when they become teachers because of your class. I've been blessed with some amazing students. #PROUD#fearlessedchat
I've had students genuinely concerned when I have been absent. When I get back they hurry up to me to check in on me. MS kids do not only care about themselves! #fearlessedchat

Sean from Orland Pk IL
A1: When I heard one of my students' stories & understood how she took care of her family due to mom's illness. Makes me realize impact Ss make on so many but starts at home #fearlessedchat
A2: Start growing that mindset with academics. It's not the end of the world if they fail in the classroom - same goes outside of the classroom. #fearlessedchat
I sighed a little loud one day, and I student immediately asked me if everything was ok. So unexpected, but felt great to know he cared! It made me smile #fearlessedchat
A2: Teach them to sit back and celebrate the little things. If a student brings me up an assignment and tells me it is terrible, I tell them everything I love about it, and how those parts will help make the rest good. #fearlessedchat
A2: it is important to remind students (and ourselves) that impact ripples outward, and sometimes those ripples are small, but they are still very real!
#fearlessedchat
A2: Helping students to reflect and take pride within the reflect is powerful. Also, help students to notice the little things, even a smile not there before is a great impact.
#fearlessedchat
A2 I have definitely told my Ss dont â do it for the Gramâ or âfor the likeâ, do it because you know its right. If we can teach them that, then at the very least theyâve got satisfaction in themself if not others #fearlessedchat
A1 I went to a local restaurant to pick up dinner. The cashier screamed when she saw me Dr. F guess what I am in school to be a nurse! I told her how proud I was...her smile made my day! #fearlessedchat
Great point! Ss grow up in a instant gratification world. They need to learn that some things take more time & effort.
Scaffolding this in your class is tough but invaluable. #fearlessedchat
A2. Ss have to be put in positions to be successful, but also positions to fail... which we need to seize as opportunities to teach and build relationships #fearlessedchat
A2: it is important to remind students (and ourselves) that impact ripples outward, and sometimes those ripples are small, but they are still very real!
#fearlessedchat
A2: pull all the positive things you can out of what they are doing to help them see even when it seems like it doesnât matter, it really does! #fearlessedchat
Awesome to see pre-service Ts active in chats with other educators. I'm not going to say I've learned more from my PLN than I did in college, but... I did. #fearlessedchat
A3: Just smile. Sometimes that's all it takes. And LET GO of the little things - you will enjoy your time with your students so much more! #fearlessedchat
A3: When students come up in the morning I clap loud and say "Who's ready to learn" or something along those lines. It makes the students laugh, but I am hoping it also subconsciously gets them in the right mindset for the day. Greeting in the hall helps too! #fearlessedchat
Relationships, relationships, relationships. Trust your students even before they trust you. Belief in them powerfully enough they they believe even when it seems all is against them.
#fearlessedchat
A3 lead the way with a smile, joke, connection with every student every day because theyâre worth it and that may be the only affirmation They get. #fearlessedchat
A2 Coaching them through mistakes, working with them, and being honest about all the times I failed...we all fail its about getting up.. #fearlessedchat
A3: Relationships, relationships, relationships. Trust your students even before they trust you. Belief in them powerfully enough they they believe even when it seems all is against them.
#fearlessedchat
A3- talking to them about their lives and following up on things they did after school- I feel like makes a big impact on them. #relationships#fearlessedchat
I will openly say that! I had an amazing college education, but there is something to say about collaborating with your colleagues around the globe who are out there fighting the good fight with you! #fearlessedchat@_on11@misskoplin

A2: Take them time to give them feedback. Balance the negative with the positive. A point value or letter grade says one thing, but a celebration or compliment on a studentâs work says another. #fearlessedchat
A3-Be a smiling face! Also started a tradition of leaving the room doing something silly, like the moonwalk, keeping the high five alive, jazz hands, whatever as long as we make that final connection. #fearlessedchat
This resonated with me. We don't know what students' lives are like outside of school, and making connections with them can sometimes mean the world. (It did for me when I was in school). #fearlessedchat
A3: Taking time to listen to what the kids are saying/not saying. Slowing down. We live in a fast-paced society. Sometimes we need to stop, disconnect, and enjoy those around us -- even the students in our own homes. #fearlessedchat
A3b: just be real around them. Let them see you have a less than perfect moment. It helps them see that everyone makes mistakes and itâs ok!! #fearlessedchat
A4: So many have impacted me in my life. Family and friends have impacted the most with colleagues and students very close to that level.
#fearlessedchat
stalking the answers from your chat at Valdez High School, because I saw @joerobison907 has joined your party. Pamela Verfaillie, in the VHS Library #fearlessedchat
A4: Outside of my family, @HistoryislifeDC helped me gain a lot of confidence when I was really lacking it last year. She has helped me see the good things I am doing for my students, and now I try to let the students develop that same level of confidence! #fearlessedchat
A3: Build relationships with your students and show them that youâre human! Talk to them outside of the classroom, greet them in the hallways or when they enter your room, make jokes and laugh. They want to see that you are human as well. #fearlessedchat
It always gets to you. The second it doesnât get to you youâve made it to bad place. The best way that I could put this is you have to frame the failure in a positive light. From that failure find the positive, thatâs the job. #fearlessedchat
FAIL = FIRST. ATTEMPT. AT. LEARNING. Don't take it as a loss - take it as a guide in the right direction. No one is the perfect teacher - everyone needs to reteach at some point and it just makes you better #fearlessedchat
A4. I been vey blessed to have some great teachers over the years. They have helped fill my tool box. Hopefully they lessons they taught me I'm passing on to my kids. #fearlessedchat
In the words of one of my personal heroes, Jedi Master Luke Skywalker. . . Breathe.... Just Breathe... sometimes you map the trip out perfectly and still get lost or make a wrong turn. Reorient and get back behind the wheel. You've got this! #fearlessedchat@misskoplin
A4 My coaches and Grandparents were fantastic examples of how to conduct yourself and how to live your life the right way. I can only hope to be half the influence that those people are me #fearlessedchat

A4: All of my Social Studies teachers from 7th grade on through my senior year of high school had such a major impact on me. I may not have realized it then, but they are the reasons I do what I do today. #fearlessedchat
A5: Everyday you have the chance to transform the life for "that" kid that every other person in their life has written off. YOU can choose to not give up and let that student grow to be something great! Edison invented the lightbulb, imagine what your S can do! #fearlessedchat
A4: I was looking for the picture that I took with @MrMac_Walker at the @Flipgrid summit. This is a guy that only knew me from chats, but treated me like his long, lost family member. What if we treated others in our lives the same way? #fearlessedchat
A5You may not know it, and they may not say it, but someone knows your making a difference. You put a smile on at least 1 persons face today #fearlessedchat
A5: âOur greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.â â Thomas A. Edison #fearlessedchat

A5 It takes more strength to forgive than to get your pound of flesh...join me tomorrow in trying to do or say something nice for someone who has wronged me in the past. #fearlessedchat
I have said it before, and I will say it again. #fearlessedchat has saved me from the sharks on more than one occasion. Thankful for all that you do, @rlmiller137.
