#UkEdChat A1- with difficult, repetitive behaviour issues I tend to keep an excel document that tallies the actions/potential triggers and students justification. Helps me to build up an idea of the child’s difficulties and plan the next strategies to help them.
A1 Behaviour watch for garden variety swearing, disruption, poor behaviour and attitude etc. CPOMS for safeguarding issues. Behaviour watch should technically be used to log positive behaviour too.....
#UKEdChat Q2
How does your school utilise publicly open social media platforms to monitor the lives of students and/or teachers?
▶Please use the hashtag & A2◀
We don't use digital platforms, I started using class dojo for behaviour management but didn't like it and the children didn't, so tend to use traditional methods. #UKEdChat a1
When a school says how fantastic you are but you find it hard to trust them because you've been through two years of horrendous experiences you don't feel like making that commitment anymore. Toxic relationship? #ukedchat@RogersHistory@FakeHeadteacher
A1 #UKEdChat Do you include online monitoring platforms that pick up all behaviour (ie Impero, NetsupportDNA, Smoothwall, and many others scanning everything typed for bad language, content monitoring, vocabulary suggesting bullying and more; ‘safeguarding in schools’ software)?

#UKEdChat A1- for repetitive, disruptive behaviour, I tend to keep an excel document logging people involved, triggers, actions and justification for the incident. This then helps me to trial new strategies to support the child in the future
A2 We submit things which are twitter-worthy to an admin who posts them sometimes days later...My kid's school @Kader_Academy has a brilliant social media account, live tweeting eg. Sports events, activities, trips.... etc #UKEdChat
A1 We don’t use digital platforms for this. As @JamieTa37990218 says, traditional methods work just as well and are actually quicker and more efficient than technology in this particular instance. #UKEdChat
#UKEdChat Q3
How can we inform students and colleagues of the potential ‘All Seeing Eye’ in terms of their use of digital platforms?
▶Please use the hashtag & A3◀
Behaviour as communication. Practitioner's are challenged to ask what the child's behaviour is telling you. Noncompliance is usually "I'm bored or unchallenged." For example. #UkEdChat
#UKEdchat A3 - With teaching colleagues is it a case of professional behaviour and awareness? With students is it consequences - 'restorative justice' type of activities?

A2 My schools don’t monitor the lives of the teachers! And I wouldn’t be sticking around somewhere where my life was being monitored by the school I worked in. #UKEdChat
#UKEdChat A3- the toothpaste analogy is a good one for teaching children that once you’ve put something else out there online, you can’t get it ‘back in the tube’
I think the earlier internet safety is spoken about the better
#UKEdChat Q4
What are the essential ‘no-nos’ in terms of monitoring the use of social media relating to your students or colleagues?
▶Please use the hashtag & A4◀
A3 By giving the responsibility of managing the school's social media account to someone who actually understands the premise of sharing/networking/building an online profile, rather than someone who just sees it as a trendy Ofsted pleaser...🤔#ukedchat
#UKEdChat Q3 very lucky that the dcf in Wales has made Internet safety a huge priority and all teachers have to teach it. Staff all have training for their own knowledge and for teaching. Everyone needs to know how to make sensible choices
Case studies from the news is an interesting way to bring the message home. How many people have lost their job/position by tweeting the wrong thing? (But then there is a president who became president for tweeting the wrong thing!!! Go figure!) #UKEdChat
#UKEdchat The PBCF is easily remembered - Please Be Child Friendly - when teaching and planning. Explore @4c3d.wordpress.com blog for lots of LQ and PBCF.

widely used standard web monitoring software do that in schools, recording all to profiles, but we found staff, parents and pupils not well informed if at all how they work, what they log and who can access profiles, why and for how long. #ukEdChat#A1https://t.co/uImqPpAutd
A1: at FE, we use the in house tracking system as either a note if low level for info or a warning which flags on their profile for all to see and escalate to coordinator if more serious. #ukedchat
#UKEdChat A4 my #1 : no matter how difficult the day, how horrible a conversation, how angry you’ve been made to feel. Never get personal online; with those you know or with those you don’t. Engage in debate on #edutwitter or ask for help from online peers. But never get personal
#UKEdChat Q5
Quite simply, would a ban on all smartphones (teachers and pupils) help improve anti-social behaviour in your school? Why?

#UKEdChat A5- in my opinion, an across-school ban promotes a really unrealistic view of our tech-heavy world. There’s huge benefit in teaching the positives of communication & technology on smartphones, although policing it- particularly in secondary must be extremely challenging
#UKEdChat a5 I don't think a ban is necessary however we need to be better educating children on their use of smartphones and how to stay safe on them.
A2 I'm unsure of whether there is an official monitoring or if I was reported, but a post of mine saw me summoned to mgt for a chat. They claim they were just concerned about my well being after I explained it was positive. Rather odd, but hopefully it was well meant #ukedchat
Internet monitoring software if used, will be monitoring all staff, as well as children’s online activity. #UKEdChat#A2 (see staff case study p22 https://t.co/TfLB83a1tf )
A5 No, it would just give students something to complain about. I focus on getting students to manage their phone use, eg. when it is and isn't appropriate to use them. They can be a useful resource #UKEdChat

#UKEdchat A6 any 'tool' that helps build a learning relationship (PBCF) is to be explored. For example if you can associate achievement with a need for fun (as you should as a teacher) using technology then go for it.
#UKEdChat A6- having to repeat instructions- use IWB’s for step by step guide to success.
Volume when working- tried @bouncyballs_org today for the first time, worked wonders.. as does music from YouTube!
A5: Prohibiting the use of smartphones does not help, they belong to the "world". We should teach students to use the devices sensibly and safely, and to show their opportunities #UKEdChat
*Compulsory* “consent” (it’s not) to social media monitoring of staff personal accounts recently brought to our attention in HE! Very hard to see how it would be lawful. #UKEdChat#A2
A6: the blank disengagement. Tech such as kahoot helps to engage them but it seems such a fad and you can't really use it every lesson, tempting as it may be. #ukedchat
#UKEdChat Q7
What routes to punishments or sanctions should be placed upon individuals where evidence is clear that their online behaviour has been negative? What are the consequences?
▶Please use the hashtag & A7◀
A6 I'm #SEMH and I find the most annoying behaviours are ignorance, eg. When a student gets a half truth/misleading/ill-informed opinion from a parent/carer/peer and repeats it. I get them to fact check/get the whole story/wider view using their phones #UKEdChat

A7 The difficulty is often when parents report negative online behaviour between pupils that goes on out of school - in private homes on private devices. Whilst it’s not something to be condoned, do schools have any jurisdiction over the pupils in these circumstances? #UKEdChat
A5 for some traumatised children and young people their phone is a relationship in itself. It connects them as a safety line to others who care. I used to ban them from my classrooms until I learned this and how removal can retraumatisr #UKEdChat
A7: Their misbehavior should be shown with all facets, possible consequences should be clarified. They should reflect their future behavior and go online only after understanding #UKEdChat
I felt it was more of a warning shot across the bows, so to speak as someone somewhere has misread it as being negative against work/mgt re maternity. A v sensitive issue & not how it was intended. Limited word count & Twitter eh! #ukedchat
A7 We have had some really good community police officers work with individuals on eg. Cyber bullying, grooming. They need to understand the seriousness of the impact of online malicious communication. It's not #banter#UKEdChat
A7 True Education, building relationships and early intervention trump sanctions and punishments every time. Ownership of behaviour and its consequences are more effective. #UKEdChat
