Q1 How can a provocative question lessen the boundaries between science, math, art and the humanities? https://t.co/Ak2Sj0NyiZ
-
Looking forward to meeting everyone this afternoon. Tweeting from YYC Canada. Jr. High Spec Ed. Lifelong learner
-
Joining the from Dover, DE at a Tech Conference! Learning to Twitter Chat!
-
Welcome! Best PD possible. And the global is wonderful to have.
-
A1: Such questions make sts sit up. They are by nature difficult, but interesting. Big questions need the help of all minds.
-
A1: -It gives us an opportunity to think outside of the box about topics we normally wouldn't question. https://t.co/4nUHqRGKGD
-
-
Q1 How can a provocative question lessen the boundaries between science, math, art and the humanities? https://t.co/Ak2Sj0NyiZ
-
-
So true. Such questions don't seem to belong to one discipline or the other once sts start to dig deeper.
-
Dan, business teacher from St. Louis
-
Please to meet you. What questions regarding AI & being human would you pose to your sts?
-
Natalie, administrator from SC, exictied to join everyone on
-
Kelly, business teacher from Katy joining late...
-
A1: Such questions might enable a sts to see connections to subjects they don't necessarily care about.
-
A1. It evens the playing field somewhat when a question is posed that no one particular sector has a ready-answer for.
-
TED_ED: Q1 How can a provocative question lessen the boundaries between science, math, art and the humanities? …
-
great! Tonight we have . It's a pleasure to participate from Spain =)
-
TED_ED: For the next hour, our tweets will be dedicated to moderating . Join the discussion!
-
A1. All great questions allow Ss to look at problems from dif perspectives - Use content from multiple areas to inform answer
-
A1: It gives us the opportunity to think outside the box and ask very open ended questions and have open discussions.
-
Great point. I like the sense of fluidness & creativity in the classroom when such q's are posed.
-
-
And to keep on digging and digging. How do you help sts take action with all of their new knowledge?
-
Yes, and it inspires deeper (critical) thinking and further questioning. https://t.co/5o9K6A0I6g
-
-
A1: It gives us the opportunity to think outside the box and ask very open ended questions and have open discussions.
-
-
chiming in from VA. Love idea of thematic questions for an entire school to explore through the year. Contents connect all year
-
I like it when sts map connections. They begin to understand the nature of connectivity. Big picture understanding!
-
Q2 coming up in a moment!
-
the education they gain within our classroom is theirs not ours:)
-
A1: It allows students to explore more deeply & critically-expressing mastery through their own personal preference.
-
Good point. This strategy will help create an environment of inquiry. Of wondering "why".
-
-
Good idea! What kind of APP could make this real time for everyone to see?
-
-
-
I would love to see this happen in all schools. 20% time, genius hour and TED-Ed CLubs are great supports
-
jumping in late! Dane from NJ. Preservice/Substitute Teacher!
-
A2 Possible and important that we do! The classroom is a safe place to learn/hear others opinoins
-
Yes! Let the sts ask the questions. Ts can support the discovery and x-disciplinary learning.
-
A questions anchored on real life & includes Ss interests allows them to see beyond just the subjects https://t.co/x94lQFigP4
-
-
Q1 How can a provocative question lessen the boundaries between science, math, art and the humanities? https://t.co/Ak2Sj0NyiZ
-
Yes, if framed for multiple perspectives. Ss need structures to help w this. Maybe use accountable talk? https://t.co/3bTUimRkhK
-
A1) Provocative questions are so because they melt down the boundaries of subjects
-
Are you able to let sts pose their own questions? I feel there is always room.
-
Right on. When you center questions, and subsequently discovery, around Ss, we break down course boundaries
-
I agree! Also allows open opportunity for Ts and Ss to switch roles. Through answering Qs Ss become the teachers
-
ED Tech folks: what r ur suggestions for apps that let sts map connections/ideas 4 better understanding? https://t.co/VWGu4SjPSb
-
-
Good idea! What kind of APP could make this real time for everyone to see?
-
Definitely agree! Allows Ss to demonstrate their learning in different ways. There's no "right" or "wrong" approach
-
A2) Of course, even the most objective subjects are rooted in subjectivity
-
We often use Inspiration but this tends to be an old-fashioned paper/pencil activity in my class
-
A2: Definitely. It allows for free thinking and more open ended discussions to take place in the classroom. Peer learning.
-
This is why sts need to learn/be permitted to ask such questions. There's always room in the curriculum.
-
-I say, yes.The nature of deep questioning means there will be natural questions to follow. https://t.co/7SVLewePuL
-
-
Are you able to let sts pose their own questions? I feel there is always room.
-
And sts will need the time to reflect upon this learning. I do this in ELA /SS all the time.
-
-
TED_ED: Q2 coming up in a moment!
-
Of course ! Some content may be better suited, but provocation challenges the Ts as much as Ss in all subjects
-
A2. Yes. Otherwise we couldn't have moved away from the earth being flat.
-
-
Ss need to see exemplars of good debate too
-
A2: Isn't all learning, all subjects based upon understanding life & our role within it? Add the human(e) to all we teach
-
I agree. The pressures of reporting on curriculum often get in the way, but there are also ways around that
-
The Sci/ELA overlap is organic. There's poetry in the natural world, data in love letters. Kids get it. https://t.co/ceJ7ZQoFKB
-
-
Q1 How can a provocative question lessen the boundaries between science, math, art and the humanities? https://t.co/Ak2Sj0NyiZ
-
Yes! Debate with the ability to entertain possibilities that don't jive with own values as valid
-
For sure! And such questioning helps prepare Ss for personal, professional & civic life.
-
A2: a low tech solution is a parking lot. If we can't get to all of the S generated questions we can park them tackle them later
-
A2: Absolutely! Higher order thinking & S understanding is achieved by evaluative questioning techniques. https://t.co/Jq8bVA0F6s
-
Great strategy. Gives students a visual reminder that their Qs are not forgotten
-
I think ts need provocation too! St driven questions shd make ts think hard as how best 2 provide further ideas
-
Or use chalk talk or graffiti board protocols 2 allow all SS voice
-
-
-
Definitely! And unfortunately, it's often school experience itself that forms the boundaries between subjects
-
Looking in from Ghana! Boundaries break down more easily outside the classroom - Ss way more responsive https://t.co/ZBaKTACH64
-
Q3 What overarching ideas should students understand in order to adapt to the 21st century? https://t.co/612mOLihi3
-
Agreed! Students need ownership & be held accountable for learning.
-
Yes ! Just participated in an awesome PD session last week that reminded us about this. https://t.co/HGgBLvotWV
-
-
A2: Absolutely! Higher order thinking & S understanding is achieved by evaluative questioning techniques. https://t.co/Jq8bVA0F6s
-
A2: all subjects must adapt to or transform our current constraints. An understanding of "humanness" is essential.
-
Expecting students to engage in philosophy across disciplines prepares them to be interesting adults. https://t.co/nPHNmtoVwX
-
Joining late... John Moran, Tech Coach in TX
-
A3- Tech is awesome&helpful. But what you post on the internet will always be on the internet.Dont want to embarrass future self
-
A3: Grit, determination, creativty, flexbility, communication
-
A3) One meta idea is that culture is flexible - this is a positive & negative and should be interrogated by Ss
-
-
A3:They are learning in order to change the world.
-
A3) I would love to ask my Ss this very question and see what THEY say about the 21st century!
-
Like this! That question cld take up an entire life, let alone a day, week or year.
-
-
-
A3: Humans need to figure out HOW to co-exist.
-
Oh guaranteed! The answers to that one are unlimited!
-
A3: They are the future leaders of the world. They need to be prepared to take on anything. The learning impacts the future.
-
A2: Shouldn't we encourage this type of thinking so that our S's can transform knowledge across disciplines?
-
A2. Definitively! We have to talk about life and the meaning of the things we are teaching. https://t.co/kv9rY0Apyq
-
A3: think critically, problem solve, be creative, collaborate and effectively communicate
-
A3.Understanding the process 4 reaching the answer & being able 2 apply it to future problems trumps knowing the answer.
-
A3) Regardless of the glitz and glam of the 21st century, it all still boils down to care and purpose. Ss must know this.
-
Yes! I want my sts to question, to seek out understanding, to dig as deeply as they can.
-
And in such a way that we grow and improve globally.. https://t.co/DjopJ6STFI
-
-
A3: They are the future leaders of the world. They need to be prepared to take on anything. The learning impacts the future.
-
-
Agreed. And in small amounts we need to prepare them to do just that!
-
A3: The future isn't about information or content. That's readily available. It's about innovation and collaboration.
-
-
To learn to forgive, to understand, to change. Tough to do when politicians use intolerance as a weapon
-
I could not agree more. It's not about us, make it about them. Real world and authentic.
-
-
A3: Synthesis, creativity, evaluation of bias. Creating is much more powerful than consuming. Adaptation & mindfulness.
-
-
What they see in texts&media is only 1 version. Study it, question it, discover your own answers https://t.co/dswrr8lD3s
-
-
Q3 What overarching ideas should students understand in order to adapt to the 21st century? https://t.co/612mOLihi3
-
-
communicate across languages and n native tongue
-
Thanks for making me smile! So true. Can't get your ideas accross if no one can read your writing!
-
Exactly. Students just need a little push in the right directions. Ts do not always need to be pulling them..
-
-
TED_ED: Q3 What overarching ideas should students understand in order to adapt to the 21st century? https://t.co/UNjfKlrh4c …
-
-
Nicely put! So important for Ss to understand their actions (big or small) have purpose and consequence.
-
Absolutely!!! https://t.co/cM07e9KBqd
-
-
I could not agree more. It's not about us, make it about them. Real world and authentic.
-
I agree w/Schwarts that ideas change overtime & so the educational system should change as well & think about the future
-
We can (secretly?) keep up with the Kardashians and still think critically about pop culture. https://t.co/tUsdy9dl8i
-
-
Q3 What overarching ideas should students understand in order to adapt to the 21st century? https://t.co/612mOLihi3
-
It is so fun giving them such an open ended topic and watching them take off and run the discussion
-
A3 Ss need to learn to collaborate, be flexible, think and rethink and research. Communication skills key https://t.co/fISFav5ijQ
-
-
Q3 What overarching ideas should students understand in order to adapt to the 21st century? https://t.co/612mOLihi3
-
-
A3: Lastly, they need to recognize that we are going into uncharted waters...21st century is ALL new.
-
-
Q4 As artificial intelligence becomes reality, what questions do we want students to be able to examine? https://t.co/lpexmXR2E0
-
A3 Ss need to be heard. Their voices are equal&crucial on all matters affecting their future. https://t.co/rXoMhOL4Tg
-
-
Q3 What overarching ideas should students understand in order to adapt to the 21st century? https://t.co/612mOLihi3
-
-
A4: What are ethics? Can we provide meaningful & productive work for all? Will all humans benefit and how? https://t.co/gmdIUHCv1W
-
A4 ... I would just like them to be able to examine the question ... Then ask better questions to get better answers.
-
This generation are masters of fluidity hwevr, its those who master communication, written & verbal, that'll reap greatst results
-
A4: What are the ethical implications as artificial intelligence becomes part of our world?
-
What will their role be in an increasingly roboticised world? Consumer or creator?
-
-
And to create new solutions for new problems.
-
A4: What types of intelligence are not artificial? interpersonal, intrapersonal etc.., and how do I attain such intelligence?
-
what is the meaning of humanity?
-
A4: to question what we value more: community or convenience.
-
-
A4: Which tasks are better tackled by tech, and which require a true human presence?
-
Agree. Also, those who have the STEAM skills to be creators, not hapless consumers.
-
A4) To be driven to find purpose and position that positively impacts the human condition. (Rhyme not intended:-)
-
A4 What's the value in understanding our humanity? Could AI ever become more human than a human? https://t.co/J9BQYV37R5
-
-
Q4 As artificial intelligence becomes reality, what questions do we want students to be able to examine? https://t.co/lpexmXR2E0
-
A4) I wish I could see around but we can't. I have to believe those who can think and communicate can lead us into the future
-
-
A3: How do you decide when efficiency outweighs privacy for society?
-
A4: To understand how we got to where we are using AI. Through what process did we get here?
-
: Good, good, good question. So many angles and paths!
-
What does it mean to be "human"? How do we ensure our use & creation of tech reflects the best of who we are?
-
How to be an engaged and pleasant date/dinner party guest/customer/co-worker/driver/human. https://t.co/64J2t4DKz8
-
-
Q4 As artificial intelligence becomes reality, what questions do we want students to be able to examine? https://t.co/lpexmXR2E0
-
-
A4 Intrapersonal requires knowing yourself and reflection--not sure AI can do that. Another area would be ethics
-
A3 That everything Ss know about society has been the work of capitalist indoctrination. Ss can be shown how to be critical
-
Q4 What else? With time, resources, and technology at our disposal, what ELSE can we tackle, create, or solve?
-
Absolutely humbled by the energy and ideas happening in this chat. Wow!
-
Yes! We want Ss to help shape the future, not just sit idly by as it happens
-
TED_ED: Q4 As artificial intelligence becomes reality, what questions do we want students to be able to examine? …
-
TED_ED: Wrapping up Q3, on to Q4
-
Just when I though I coudn't get enough, blows us all out of the water. https://t.co/RIhnu73Dlc
-
-
Q4 What else? With time, resources, and technology at our disposal, what ELSE can we tackle, create, or solve?
-
A4: Under what circumstances would you be willing to put your life in the hands of the developers/engineers who created the AI?
-
I'm worried with a life too convenient.
-
This is a remarkable question. We seem to be so trusting. Can/should we be?
-
A4) How can we recreate the job market so that we are still relevant in the AI age?
-
Yes! Ss can be an active part of the evolution of tech! They are the ones who spark the next big innovation!
-
That a key/core question to which we don't yet have any satisfying answers. Paradigm shift, that one!
