Wow, both are super important! However, the perception of the people you serve is of primary importance. Plus, their perceptions may in fact provide you with helpful data that could adjust your own perception! #HISDAdminChat
Both are equally important and should align... Your true identity is demonstrated through consistent actions, the community perceives what they see! #HISDAdminChat
Yes, perception is everything! BUT what matters more is how I see myself as a leader. I can’t control what others think! Be true to self... #HISDAdminChat
A1. I believe it's more important for the community to perceive us well. That perception most likely is formed by our actions and interactions with them. #HISDAdminChat

Because my job is to serve students and the community, I have to get feedback from them to see what actions are not translating my intentions. #HISDAdminChat
A1. That’s a good one @texasbuckeye! How the community perceives me. I know me. My job is to help the community get to know me, my vision, and my plan for our children. #hisdadminchat#letlovelead💜
A1: Tough one 😬 You may have the best intentions but if the perception of your community is skewed then your best intentions don’t matter. Communication and transparency are key so that true self aligns with perception #HISDAdminChat
My community... I feel like they help keep how I perceive myself in check. They give me feedback on if I am really doing what I strive to do. This work is about them.
I think this is a good point. If the feedback you are receiving aligns with your own perceptions you can only hope you are moving in the right direction. #HISDAdminChat
A1) 1/2 You always ask the though questions, and I like https://t.co/5NIV9BORJg’s a mixed bag.Have to perceive yourself as capable, etc but need to be realistic about your strengths and weaknesses. #hisdadminchat
Great question. You can do it proactively by sending out surveys or seeking feedback. Additionally, it requires listening as it can come from lots of places (students, parents, faculty/staff, etc.). #HISDAdminChat

Q1) how others perceive me - our job revolves around others and how they perceive us is important...in many cases it can make or break a principal. #HISDAdminChat
I find that over time, perceptions and performance tend to either noticeably align or obviously disalign. It takes time though and a willingness to stick to it. #Grit#HISDAdminChat
A2: Advocate -- I want my community to know I am there to advocate, relentlessly, so they are able to receive equitable educational opportunities! #HISDAdminChat

Transparent. I believe that being transparent is very important. I don’t hide things from my parents or community. Speaking the truth is what helps us solidify a strong community. #HISDAdminChat

A2) Honest. I want them to see me as honest in what I communicate, honest about our strengths and weaknesses, and honest in my intentions toward others. #AnotherGoodQuestion#HISDAdminChat

A2. Oh gosh 1 word is tough! I think accessible maybe....if they are able to be heard, they feel that they are supported and have accurate information and resources to move forward. Sts, parents and teachers. #HISDAdminChat
A2) Committed. I want them to know I am committed to each of them always. Because this is where trust builds. Committed to growing together, listening to each other, and becoming the best we can be. #HISDAdminChat
We all want to be liked. Sometimes it’s the tough love and being firm with students because that’s the learning experience they need that is though to do. #growingpains#hisdadminchat
A3: If you are very direct by nature, but the community you serve has a culture where directness is not understood but rather views it as hostile. #HISDAdminChat
A3: Not sure that if your values, actions, and vision are aligned being your authentic self can actually be in conflict with how you want to be perceived. Talk the talk. Walk the walk. If you are in it for the kids, ALWAYS, you will be in good shape! #HISDAdminChat
When my authentic self clashes with the importance of perception. I’m an introvert and am constantly analyzing everything, that may come across as unapproachable and that’s the last thing I’d like people to think of me... #HISDAdminChat#TheStruggleIsReal#KeepingIt💯
A3) I want to share - and there are times when I can't do that. So I can be perceived as not communicating when, in fact, it's a matter of making sure I communicate accurately and effectively. So that often takes time and people want info NOW. #HISDAdminChat
A3) I think for me part of being a relational leader is knowing who I am communicating too and how they percieve me, receive feedback, and like to be communicated too. Sometimes this means being open to checking myself and changing my own communication style. #HISDAdminChat
That's a wrap! Thanks for another great week of #HISDAdminChat - I'm not sure I could get through the week without hearing your genius :) . Go get 'em!

It’s also not how some cultures perceive leaders should be. A former superintendent used to tell me, “Peoples perception is their reality.” #HISDAdminChat

A3. Good one! People REALLY dont need to see how I feel about certain things, especially if it's the direction that an organization is going. I want to support the district/organization and the initiatives. We've all supported THOSE initiatives. #HISDAdminChat
