The Breakfast Club – #BFC530 – is a 15 minute, 1 question Twitter chat every weekday. We chat in 4 timezones Mon-Fri – 5:30am Eastern, Central, Mountain, and Pacific Times. The mission of BFC is to empower participants to make a difference in education by engaging in consistent reflective practice in a supportive community that inspires and challenges one another.
If you have a snow day, do you have to make it up? In CT we are required to go to school for 180 days and get it all in by June 30th. What about other states. #bfc530
Our question bank is empty ... what's a question you have for others? Something you'd like to discuss? Something you'd like to learn more about?

Good morning #bfc530 Happy Thursday! Hope you’re all hitting this day like my chickens after a mealworm. My question would be: what’s the funniest education story you have?
I always want to add to the question bank but my questions would be “ so what did you guys have for dinner last night?” Or “ when the heck is Harper getting signed? “ #bfc530
When we have ‘school closure’ we have online learning. Each content area T is required to create a 20-30 min lesson for kids online. They have a 3 day window on return for completion. We have required office hours. No make up & min loss of time-I compare it to a sub day #bfc530
30 days WOW! My home districts middle school had a mold issue to start the school year and they held "classes" through Google Classroom in order to keep the days (as well as met in the HS auditorium for a few years. #bfc530
Schools still remain open here and buses run. We rarely close schools in our area. We do have bus cancellations. So we really don’t have days we have to make up due to weather. #bfc530
I was a tour guide before I became a teacher- I drove groups of backpackers around in a little bus. I loved sharing beautiful parts of our country with travellers and bringing very diverse groups together. Still sharing my passions just with smaller humans these days #bfc530
I think teachers have a lot of other hobbies and passions. I’d probably be a writer full time with some fiber arts and gardening thrown in on the side! #bfc530
Im only a fan if you go to "virtual school" once you are over your allotted snow days. Still a believer that snow days should be for a break or for fun for the kids. As I always say, "Youre only a kid once, you can be immature your whole life" LOL #bfc530
So, when you have to physically make up the days, do the kids just get to sit there and do nothing because they worked online during the snow days? #bfc530
And then you had Superstorm Sandy where Gov. Christie in NJ wouldnt allow an allowance for the weeks in some cases missed (his children went to private school so unaffected they didnt go 180 that year) #bfc530
The intention is these will populate the question bank (which was empty after yesterday's posted question) and be our daily questions over the next week or two. #bfc530
We missed a week for that one..and 10 days for the October storm. OUr last day was June 30. It was rough as many of us start back in August getting our rooms ready. #bfc530
Haha I like the life questions like the dinner one lol. Mine in the past have been about commute time or wake-up time or what people bring for lunch. #bfc530
This is actually the first day that I am packed to go to the gym, but I don’t feel good and don’t think the germs or the extreme cold would be good for me. #bfc530
That was suggested to Christie during Superstorm Sandy. Nope! A If you add to a day it's still one day. If it ever happens to my kids, they will not attend school on a Saturday. Although necessary & rewarding, their life is not defined by school. #bfc530
And by the way we ordered out for pizza last night. We had it delivered. Even though it was early in the night before it got really cold, kind of felt bad we had some high school kid drive it out to us. #bfc530
It is a good thought but in my Fabrication Lab/Tech Class not being physically there is a missed day and “online” work can’t replace physical time in the shop. #bfc530
.@DennisDill Occasional online learning is good for r’ship building. I have long online chats with S who are often silent. The one we just had allowed me to think of ways to make it better with Hangouts etc. Hoping the idea of online learning to give time for PD happens #bfc530
The thing about #bfc530 that everyone is missing is that we are on the verge of runaway climate change and we need a complete re-think of the global economy to ensure a just society & avoid planetary catastrophe.
May the day never come when we've run out of questions, when we've exhausted every last inquiry, or when we've solved all the world's problems. Keep wondering, my friends. #bfc530#wonderwake

I won’t deny the positives of digital learning ... in essence my History class is online but the kids do it in class and instead of messaging I actually chat with them F2F ... that is a relationship builder too. #bfc530
What is something your schools do to retain teachers?
What could we do as teachers to avoid “snow/ice/cold days” and are you in a district that already does this? What tech are you using? #bfc530
Yes! This has kept me sane the past few years. Thought i was crazy in believing that education would and could evolve but the talk was different until i joined social media and found my tribe. Love my PLN. #bfc530
