We are encouraged daily for cross curricular (progressive school) - cross grade is less often for sure. Different schedules in our LS/MS/HS makes it tough. #bfc530
Not sure we need to wait for the school to promote cross-curricular or cross-grade collaboration - we need to seize the opportunity to make it happen when we can! Love when the learning spills out of our room and flows into others! *Just Do It* #bfc530

We are part of i2 this year and all grades will curtail “regular” instruction for school wide science week at the end of October. I’m excited for it! Any other Mass. schools doing it? #bfc530

Sadly, cross grade collaboration is only promoted once a semester for 40 minutes. We spend time building interventions upon interventions, yet we don't spend time fixing what is sending kids to intervention in the first place. #bfc530
My division is fully embracing cross-curricular collaboration. Some schools even have Wellness Integrators that are bringing a focus on physical fitness into content curriculum. #bfc530
We talk about cross-curricular integration a lot w/in my grade lvl. But it's proved challenging to do because of standards changing, district expectations, etc. #goals#bfc530
Some of my sites do grade and divisional team meetings at staff meetings and PD days. This is a great time to collaborate with peers. I have found that using cloud-based Docs helps me to collaborate with staff at my four sites even when we have no common planning times. #bfc530

We do a good job of providing common planning for like subjects. But i think we would seriously need to re-prioritize to also plan for cross curricular work. #bfc530
Even if you say there is no time for planning, just ask your students how what you're learning relates to another class- you can create mini interdisciplinary moments everyday. Or create a # where you can see where other Ts are doing even if you never have time to meet #bfc530
Our school-wide summer reading title is 9-12.
Each Sept we devote one day to looking at the title in each class. Ss are able to see a work from 7 different lenses.
We just finished our 6th event to make summer reading more meaningful with ownership by many stakeholders. #bfc530
I should clarify that I’m in a middle school and all Ts were offered the chance to be science teachers for the i2 week. Paid training, etc. I’m excited, always loved teaching science when I was elementary! #bfc530
I have participated in vertical collaboration sessions in the past, but haven't done so yet here in my new position. We are having many talks about the vertical articulation of standards though which I think is a great beginning. #bfc530

I see cross-curricular more in our elementary schools. I do not see this as much in middle/high schools. I think there are pockets that do it well that others could learn from. #bfc530
Cross-curricular integration is a significant part of our Kindergarten program...authenticity, flow, engagement, deeper learning are all by-products of such integration. #bfc530
Funny/sad that this is even a question this morning. LIfe doesn't occur in nice neat little packages of subjects/curriculum. Life itself is essentially cross-curricular so why, when preparing S's for life, do we teach things in isolation?

We are a PBL school, so we encourage it in many forms throughout the school year. It could be all subjects or just 2-3, but we encourage as much of it as we can #bfc530
Good morning #BFC530. Cross curricular collaboration at my school is growing. Used to be only a few teachers but with our 9th grade academy that number is growing.
A: It’s encouraged more than promoted. SS classes will typically collaborate with English classes in historical fiction units. The #DaughtersoftheAmericanRevolution have a great essay we collaborate on as well. #bfc530

My kids school has teams and as a parent I don't really like it because my kids are stuck on the same team for 3 years:(
And no teacher has ever reached out to me. Main reason school gives parents is so all team members know and help your kids...

So true! When I was in college (many moons ago) my ed program was focused on curriculum integration. We couldn't graduate w/out developing & teaching an integrated unit. It's a buzz-word again, but why is it so hard to get back to? #bfc530

It’s been a push at our school this year, with additional planning time set during PL. Our new textbook integration foiled plans as we lost options possible in past. Working to create get-arounds. Last year we timed DBQ & novel (ELA) with Europe & WWII (SS) #BFC530

I honestly think tome is a more precious commodity than $ in schools. We are tethered to antiquated schedules and there is little to be done on the ground level if admin is not creative/visionary to make these things viable. #bfc530
At the school that I’m in, cross curricular collaboration has really started in the last couple of years starting with humanities and now spreading grade wide. Sharing a common vision and using the same terms has been imperative to this movement. #bfc530
Most of our schools are still stuck in the 1950's - we need to break out of the current rut education (most schools, not all) is in.
I think it takes trailblazers - people like those in this group - to pioneer these efforts.

I would agree: time and throw in culture. My principal has been good about making the time in our schedules for both gr lvl & depts to meet, but there always seems to be something other than planning to tackle. And some Ts don't want to change what they're doing. #bfc530

I think many of our structures in school (especially secondary) work against collaboration rather than for it. For example: curriculum, school buildings divided into classrooms, subject area Ts with soooo much to cover. #bfc530
Our problem is not cross curricular being emphasized or not by admin. Our problem is a willingness to work cross curricularly with other staff. Not sure if it's fear, stubbornness, or a teamwork problem. #BFC530
I think it’s very difficult after middle school with AP, etc. our HS has 2 Ts who developed their own cross curricular course. Inspiring but not replicated! Requires a huge amount of collaboration. #bfc530

I think time is always an issue. Our Ts teach half the time during the week & have half of the time for planning. They use their time well and still, it's not enough #bfc530

My two are average kids who don't get in trouble and seems their teachers only reach out when there is a problem. I have gotten random acts of kindness notices but nothing academically.... Not sure what the teams benefit the actual kids... #bfc530
