Hi Brent here, From Magrath but autotweeting from SLC as we are on a bit of holiday. I will be in with the phone but I can't keep up with the Qs from the phone so more like Cyborg BRent lol #g2great
Welcome! Thursdays are the best days they give us that moment to pause and reflect and we close out the week strong with our #G2Great PLN having meaningful discussions about REAL work. @brennanamy@DrMaryHoward@franmcveigh Take a moment & say hello!
Welcome #G2Great friends. We are so thrilled that you’re here tonight and are excited about this topic. In case you missed it, here’s a great video from Shane Lopez for later. https://t.co/uDMHOPIgBa

We need more HOPE in this world and that begins with our children who will lead the way. We have got to make that a priority in our schools and classrooms! #G2great
Hi #g2great Andy from Michigan here to learn and share about our most important job as teachers - we are agents of hope! When we offer hope we plant a seed for growth where it seems none existed before.
You have come to the right place Jen. Sending out some good vibes your way friend! Some days hope feels just out of reach but it’s always there waiting for us to reach out and grasp it #G2great
there needs to be a balance...while I DO realize that standardized tests are important, so is teaching hope. I fear we will never find that balance. #g2great
A1 Hope is the belief in all that is good in the world. It means that we know kindness and the heart will prevail. Hope is being optimistic, positive and doing our part. It needs to be part of every classroom, to always believe that kids will succeed & be stronger. #g2great
A1- Hope is a way of moving forward-focusing on the possibilities and not the limitations. In school it's letting our students know that this moment, this incident, this snapshot in time does not define them; tomorrow is a new day and another chance to shine their light. #G2great
Susie from NYC joining from a cab on the way home from @bankstreetedu amazing graduation tonight. @pranikoff by my side. Excited to be learning with the #g2great family again!!
A1 Hope is not just an empty word but based on the deep belief that anything is possible if we are willing to breathe life into all that means every single day. #G2Great
That’s why we need conversations so that we never lose sight of that balance (and I would like to think on the side of hope and those things we value most in our classrooms. I refuse to let go of hope and my rose-colored glasses prove it! #G2great

A1: To me hope means possibility. Integrating hope into the every day means believing in kids and letting them know that you believe in them and see great possibilities for their learning. #g2Great
A1:hope is the mindset that there are endless possibilities to learn and grow. My students and I start off each year by documenting our hopes and dreams for the year. We revisit often and use them to celebrate and sometimes “recenter” ourselves. #G2Great
A1: Hope is a necessity. It's why we keep trying. My Ss see the 39yo successful me so I reveal pieces of me at diff ages when I also struggled. Hope is a reason to go on #G2Great
A1 Keep your eyes on the present and the big picture. You are teaching students, who have lives, who are trying to figure things out and trying to figure their own lives out. Relationships matter. Kindness matters. Listening mattes. #G2Great
A1 Hope resides in each of us and our schools need a CULTURE of hope that permeates the very air we breathe. Hope should lift our conversations and our actions each day #G2Great
A1: Hope means that no matter how bad something seems, there are endless possibilities to turn it around. In the classroom hope is that every child can be successful and every student struggle an opportunity for growth #G2Great
Susie from NYC joining from a cab on the way home from @bankstreetedu amazing graduation tonight. @pranikoff by my side. Excited to be learning with the #g2great family again!!
A1 I am cautious using the word hope where it assumes the worse or there is over whelming negative. I do believe in carrying my own weather and to be positive and highlight the positive around us #g2great
A1: Hope to me is about potential. The idea that there is more ahead to work toward. As a school I think we promote community and in my classes it is all about progress and working towards goals. #g2great
That just gave me chills Susie & it’s such a giant part of what hope is all about. We have to put our efforts into supporting our future educators .Our kids are depending on it and so glad that you and Kara are leading the way at #Bankstreetedu (and hi sweet friend 😘 #G2great
We need more HOPE in this world and that begins with our children who will lead the way. We have got to make that a priority in our schools and classrooms! #G2great
Beautifully said, @GreeneMachine82 We have to live in possibility. We have to let students know we are on their team and we believe in them. That is where hope lies. #g2great
A1: To me hope means possibility. Integrating hope into the every day means believing in kids and letting them know that you believe in them and see great possibilities for their learning. #g2Great
A1 We need much more instructional hope but we can do that if we allow labels to cloud our view. Labels blind us to hope while seeing kids from sides illuminates it. #G2Great
A1: Hope is the lifeboat in the middle of a storm we need when we have nearly given up. To save lives we need to be the shelter from the storm. Kindness matters. Caring matters. Love matters. Help them overcome obstacles. Don’t become one. #g2Great

A1. Hope is attending PD like
@KellyGToGo provided today.
Seeing so many Ts embracing new ideas.
Thinking about implementally incrementatlly! YES
#Hope#g2great
A1: Hope is the lifeboat in the middle of a storm we need when we have nearly given up. To save lives we need to be the shelter from the storm. Kindness matters. Caring matters. Love matters. Help them overcome obstacles. Don’t become one. #g2Great
A2 If we want to see more hope, we need to not only be models of hope, we have to spread it everywhere we go. Let the positive drown out the negative. Let us look with our hearts, not our eyes. Let us show others how beautiful the world is, how much we have to hope for. #g2great
A2- When you're positive, a hopeful stance comes as naturally as the tendency to see/bring out the best in people and situations. Be the voice that shuts down:“What’s lacking here?” and change it to “What do we have? What can we start with? Where can we go from here?” #g2great
A1: hope is a powerful feeling that fuels me to get up each day and try new things that bring positive changes in my personal life as well as in the lives of people and students I work with. #g2great

A1 Hope is a new baby, a fresh start ea day, a brand new bk from a beloved author. Hope is hearing your friends call your name & rush to hug you when you're late. Hope is lrng abt something sad & deciding to do something to change it. Hope is knowing that life is good. #G2Great
A2 Shane Lopez’s words should be a reminder that the positive spirit that we CHOOSE to bring to every experience can have an equally positive impact on all around us. #G2Great
A2: students are watching us so we need to be beacons of hope for them. When we show kindness, compassion, and believe in the good intentions and hearts of our students, they will do the same of themselves and others #G2Great

I love that Letha. We can’t ask kids to be hopeful and positive if we aren’t. The teacher sets the tone for everything. And yes, we start at the beginning and celebrate each step along the way. #G2great

A2 Hope is closely connected to vision and priorities. We have this year, this month, this week, this day, this moment with a student. What can we do to empower them and make them feel hopeful about what they need to learn or what is coming next. #G2Great
A1 Hope is the belief in all that is good in the world. It means that we know kindness and the heart will prevail. Hope is being optimistic, positive and doing our part. It needs to be part of every classroom, to always believe that kids will succeed & be stronger. #g2great
Being positive, showing hope, responding with kindness, leading with heart...we all have a choice. Let us choose the road that shines bright for others. Let us have impact on the world. #g2great
A2 Shane Lopez’s words should be a reminder that the positive spirit that we CHOOSE to bring to every experience can have an equally positive impact on all around us. #G2Great

A2: It means sharing how you handle difficult situations. I.e. Modeling your writing challenges, sharing stories of personal perseverance, listening to students with empathy in your heart, working through a difficult text, offering full credit for redos, etc. #G2Great
A2 We choose to view the world from a lens of hope or negativity. We can also choose to turn a blind eye to those who opt for negativity. I don’t ever want to catch that virus! #G2Great
A2: All about the example. I look at the feedback I give my students, growth mindset, positive and working towards their goals. When they struggle we set goals, easy manageable, hope building. #G2great
A2: it’s part of our responsibility as educators to spread hope to our students, to let them know that the world is scary, but they can change that....the best way to spread hopeful cheer is singing loud for all to hear (anyone get the reference?)#g2great
A2 Hope is truly contagious. Hope is reading powerful bks, talking about differences that little people make in the world. It's giving kids a voice & acting on their ideas. Then, it's reflecting back on the significance of their attempts to change the world. #g2Great

Yes @DrMaryHoward WE have the control over how we engage with children and the messages we send them. Our ever interaction makes a great deal of difference. There is great strength and HOPE in that alone. #G2Great
A2 Shane Lopez’s words should be a reminder that the positive spirit that we CHOOSE to bring to every experience can have an equally positive impact on all around us. #G2Great
That’s so important Brent. Kids have to feel as if they can achieve success and we set the stage for that belief. It’s so important that we plant those seeds! #G2great
A2: All about the example. I look at the feedback I give my students, growth mindset, positive and working towards their goals. When they struggle we set goals, easy manageable, hope building. #G2great
A2 A big part of "learned hope" comes from the adults in a kid's world dreaming aloud for them. Not what we want specifically for a kid, but dreaming aloud about all the possibilities open to every kid. #g2great
A2: When we give students opportunities to learn from their mistakes we give them hope. When we don’t we are in danger of tamping our their last ember of hope. #g2great
A2 Our schools desperately need hope as an atmosphere of hope is where we all can thrive. Everything we do should reflect that mindset and our children depend on it! #G2Great
A2 A big part of "learned hope" comes from the adults in a kid's world dreaming aloud for them. Not what we want specifically for a kid, but dreaming aloud about all the possibilities open to every kid. #g2great
A3 If we want excitement & hope, our learning must be filled with excitement. Make learning & living an adventure. Show them the joy and endless possibilities. Let them live and feel the impact they have. Dream big, create the unexpected. Live that hope, lead with heart. #g2great
Oh yes @cvarsalona Believe in the power of teaching. Believe in the strength of our students. Believe in the gift of building relationships in our school. Believe in the power of teaching. #G2Great
This came back to haunt me with my 4-year-old- (who I've also been teaching the power of 'yet')- he turned to me during dinner one night and said, "This pizza isn't very good" then paused, smiled and said "yet!" #g2great
@franmcveigh Shout it from the rooftops...Hope, kindness, empathy, love, etc. We cannot have designated days or "projects". It must be a way of life, a daily reminder to how we live as a community! #g2great
A2 We can foster and generate creative anticipation for kids. The ability to dream, hope, anticipate the life they want for themselves and others. That's why I love seeing this generation stand up, speak up and take action. They have incredible power and potential. #g2great
A3: I think we can teach/instill hope by showing Ss strong models who were agents of change. People like @Malala teach kids that they don’t have to wait to be adults to make a change. #g2great
One stop further, @LiteracyCoachKS all PEOPLE need a little help. Our whole world moves forward with positivity when we reach out and connect. #G2Great
A3: We can create excitement for the future by showing it for the potential that lies within every moment- by embedding curiosity/wonder into the everyday. A natural extension of appreciating the present is anticipating what joys the future may hold. #g2great
A3 The 1st step for teaching hope is to LIVE it ourselves. We can’t ask our children to be hopeful if all we do sends the opposite message. Hope always begin within each of us. #G2Great
A3 The 1st step for teaching hope is to LIVE it ourselves. We can’t ask our children to be hopeful if all we do sends the opposite message. Hope always begin within each of us. #G2Great
A3 When little kids see big things happening, of course, they want to join in. Excitement begets excitement! When hope rises, it's the opportune time to ask them, "What next?" #G2great
A3: Create a classroom community in which mistakes, struggles, and challenges are just jumping off points to learn and grow. Let students know they aren’t judged so they are comfortable reflecting and goal setting. Celebrate these goals as a class #G2Great
A2: I read in A Mindset forLearning about how self-talk can help Ss lay down positive neural pathways which support optimism, persistence and resilience. We can give our Ss the tools and language to do this #G2Great
One stop further, @LiteracyCoachKS all PEOPLE need a little help. Our whole world moves forward with positivity when we reach out and connect. #G2Great
A3 The 1st step for teaching hope is to LIVE it ourselves. We can’t ask our children to be hopeful if all we do sends the opposite message. Hope always begin within each of us. #G2Great
#G2Great A3 We demonstrate this mindset, see opportunities vs challenges and we highlight examples of those who came before us who persevered and beat the odds and how every individual has something unique to contribute to the world
A3: I think I covered this in A2 but to add I think if we want to build excitement in the future we have to build excitement in the now. I want my students to constantly look towards better but I certainly don't want them to regret today as not awesome. #G2great
A3: need to give Ss opportunities to set reasonable, achievable goal & track progress. Even more important is for Ss to see themselves in their learning, reading, etc #G2great
A2: : I totally agree with that quote. The hopeful among us model the positivity that is needed to pick ourselves up after turmoils. We all have the power to model hope and then encourage each other to see the best in each situation and think positively. #g2great
That is one of the many reasons I love teaching @vrkimmel . When a student it talking to me or working in front of me the rest of the world disappears. The presence of teaching is such a gift. #G2Great
Joy is contagious and will spread across a room faster than anything I now (except maybe joylessness - and that is hard to stop once it’s makes it’s way across a room! #G2great
A3 We can’t instill excitement if we don’t create an instructional atmosphere where we demonstrate our own excitement. If we light the spark of joy it WILL become a flame. #G2Great
A3: Danial Pink talks about motivation requiring Autonomy, Mastery and Purpose. Hope and motivation are tied together. To make this visible we must help students answer the following questions. #g2great
A3: Be attentive to their interests. Find books with characters they relate to. Be responsive in our teaching so they know our lessons are for them. Find ways to show students their voice is valued beyond the four walls of the classroom. #g2Great
A3 We can’t expect kids to be excited about now or next if we fill their learning days with trivial STUFF. What we choose to do each day must invite and excite kids. #G2Great
#G2Great A3 in the words of Stephanie Harvey & Annie Ward: “Believe wholeheartedly in every child.””Meet each child w/ positive expectancy & nurturing approval.”
A4 Learning and life is a journey. We are there to help support, to encourage, to be their cheerleader. The past is part of their story, it does not define who they are or who they will be. Let us all learn together; let us build hope. Let us all believe in kids. #g2great
A4 Every student starts every day new.
No baggage.
Every sunrise is a new beginning.
Not forgetting the story; not letting one page or chapter become the whole narrative!
#G2great
A4 We need to take away the negative connotation of mistakes or failures. We need to help view them as stepping stones, as ways in which we learn. We need to show how to overcome challenges. Nothing is impossible. Dream big, dream forward. #g2great
A4: daily reminders that mistakes are proof you’re trying....that no kid’s self-worth should be tied to a test score or reading level...and telling Ss you’re happy they came to school today. #g2great
A4: By showing love towards our students even on their worst days. Letting them have “do overs” when something is not working without judgement. Sharing books of people who have changed our world, but had lots of obstacles along the way. #G2Great
A4 I often think of the words of Scarlett O’Hara: “After all, tomorrow is another day.” We could live by that mantra in our classroom and stop holding on to the past. #G2Great
A4: Give them unlimited opportunities to redo/revise/resubmit for up to full credit. When we learn to ride a bike and fall down we are not given a different bike, we are put right back on the same one until we can ride it without help. The same should happen in school #G2Great
A4. I LOVE this graphic. Wouldn't it be terrific for a Morning Meeting or class discussion? Talking about mistakes, students sharing examples - realizing they are not alone in making mistakes. #G2Great
A4 Every student starts every day new.
No baggage.
Every sunrise is a new beginning.
Not forgetting the story; not letting one page or chapter become the whole narrative!
#G2great
I love how everything you just said is about being child-centered Andy. Our choices and how we approach our teaching ALWAYS begins ends and centers back to kids #G2great
A3: Be attentive to their interests. Find books with characters they relate to. Be responsive in our teaching so they know our lessons are for them. Find ways to show students their voice is valued beyond the four walls of the classroom. #g2Great
A3 If we live our lives by embracing #hope we can be the models for others who have lost #hope. #Students need to learn to #believe in themselves. #G2Great
A4 A fresh start ea day makes the difference. No matter what happened yesterday, we're all excited & happy to be back together again, growing, lrng, living together. Smile, hug, share at Morning Circle. Send the message: who you are matters to us, not just what you do. #G2great
A3: When we are talking about setting goals for the future with our Ss, we need to show that their dreams matter and they can achieve them by taking productive steps. I like to share stories of people that overcame many obstacles to be where they are right now. steps #g2great
A4 I often think of the words of Scarlett O’Hara: “After all, tomorrow is another day.” We could live by that mantra in our classroom and stop holding on to the past. #G2Great
A4: The goal is high degrees of learning for ALL students. As my friend @KatieWhite426 says Every. Single. One. Our job as educators is to break a trajectory of failure by making success visible in our teaching and assessment practice. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. #g2great
A3: Good books/Read Alouds can do this! Books have the power to show our Ss what the world can be. It can open pathways to other ways of thinking and being. #G2Great
A4: I enjoy reminiscing with my students. When they look back at who they were and compare to their present-day selves, they can see their own growth. It is nice to hear them say I used to be...but now I am... #G2Great
A4: First step, not focusing on what they can't do. Focus on what they can. Celebrations do so much more to build than those conversations that focus on failure. We need it some times but I think to balance building feedback on Congratulations is key for hope #g2great
A4 We must learn to see beauty in every learning day and in every child. We can’t allow labels to cloud our view what is possible. There are no limits if we see past them. #G2Great
A4 I often think of the words of Scarlett O’Hara: “After all, tomorrow is another day.” We could live by that mantra in our classroom and stop holding on to the past. #G2Great
#G2Great A4 Herein lies the problem with many of the single measures used to assess a student’s performance over the course of a year! No wonder this is the message they receive! You are just a number and capable only within this finite range that’s been determined for you!
A3 We must cultivate and sustain a culture of trust and hope in our classrooms. Use collaborative protocols for all to #believe in #possibilities#G2Great

@hayhurst3, @brennanamy, @DrMaryHoward, @franmcveigh
A5 Always get students to look forward. We learn from each experience and we go forward. Let us work with goals and objectives and looking to making a difference, not being stuck in the past. Use "next" or "and now" to keep students pushing forward, dreaming big, more. #g2great
Pretty hard to see HOPE when you find yourself buried beneath the labels we ask kids to wear isn’t it Kasey. And that perception can last a lifetime! #G2great
#G2Great A4 Herein lies the problem with many of the single measures used to assess a student’s performance over the course of a year! No wonder this is the message they receive! You are just a number and capable only within this finite range that’s been determined for you!
A4 We can only ask kids to bring their best to the table if we bring ours. We must turn this question inward and ask if we are contributing rather than addressing the problems. #G2Great
A4: We can teach our students to focus on their strengths instead of their challenges. Recently I has discussion with the student who can't read with fluency but is an amazing artist. We discussed how he could use that strength to make a positive change in the world. #g2great
A5. Setting goals that reach into the future. Write one of your own goals on the board and leave it there, refer to it, share progress. Model for students. #G2Great
A4 I come into a room as a sub. Kids run to share how they’ve been doing. They can let go of their mistakes and see themselves as learners. Can we? #g2great
A4 We can speak the truth of new chances everyday, we live the truth in front of kids and we never, ever give the impression that we believe their past performance is determines their future. #g2great
#G2Great A4 (pt 2) As many here have expressed, we know better and have to do better to ensure a student is not bound tomorrow by what that cannot due today.
A5. "Nexting" means that we are always completing and moving on to the next
hope-filled possibility!
Not stopping,
just brief pausing,
rallying the troops
onward and upward
with our momentum!
#g2great
A5: Teaching students to regroup and think about how they can do something differently next time to get closer to their goals. When students learn something from “mistake” take time to celebrate this learning in the class #G2Great
A5: Hope springs eternal....there is always a new goal to reach, a new obstacle to overcome, but hope let’s us know we can do it. Hope has to provide the fuel for the little engine that could. 🚂#G2Great
Always tell Ss each day starts fresh-a new beginning. Today can be whatever we make of it. Share some of our challenges & failures to make connection that we all have these. Love the stepping stone description.
#g2great
A5 “What’s NEXT” must always be on our minds as nothing worth doing comes with an end point. It’s ever meandering pathway to excellence so we always have ‘nexting’ in mind. #G2Great
A5. "Nexting" means that we are always completing and moving on to the next
hope-filled possibility!
Not stopping,
just brief pausing,

#g2great
A5: This happened today. Couple of students didn’t achieve the results they wanted. They are passionate about their topic, but they choose to think divergently in order to achieve their outcome. Divergent thinking is, for my money, the def of “nexting.” #G2Great
A5: All about anticipation. I love talking up what we are going to do next. I think it serves to build excitement but also helps those that might feel they can't do things prepare to figure out how we can. #g2great
A5 Asking “what’s next” will always happen if we create a culture of a ‘nexting’ mindset in our schools. We keep our sights on allowing each day to build on the one before. #G2Great
#G2Great A4 (pt 3) We must get to know students as multidimensional people, always looking beyond singular and static measures, we must show them nothing is impossible, empower, and equip them with personal tools for success
A5: It feels like the difference between rear view thinking, "It happened" which can create longing and nostalgia and forward thinking, "It's still happening" even if it "happens in hope" that lives in love and presents a "next." I hope this makes sense. It feels right. #g2great
#G2Great A4 (pt 3) We must get to know students as multidimensional people, always looking beyond singular and static measures, we must show them nothing is impossible, empower, and equip them with personal tools for success
Sorry to run but going to see the Art Fair/Open House at my school. Even though retired it will always be my school. That’s where Hope is for me, with kids. #g2great
A5: it is so important for our kids to see what is next, only when you can see something can you believe it and work towards it. We need to help them see the possible “nexts” #g2great
A5 The idea of ‘demonstrating’ a “what’s next?” spirit implies that we are willing to LIVE it. We do this by making OUR learning a priority so BETTER is always in view. #G2Great
A6 I always push them to dream big, to not sell themselves short. I want them to imagine every possibility with every passion. We will do what it takes to make it happen. There may be roadblocks, but we persevere, we believe. Bring in hope/passions to daily interactions. #g2great
#G2Great A5 Life is a journey and hope is the compass; when we get lost, it points the way nudging us bit by bit by the promises of tomorrow; a new day, a new path, a new outcome
A6: I call my Ss writers, scientists, & mathematicians. I try to honor their inquiries and encourage them to seek out and investigate their areas of passion as well as teach others about it. #G2Great
Sorry to run but going to see the Art Fair/Open House at my school. Even though retired it will always be my school. That’s where Hope is for me, with kids. #g2great
A6- I wanted my 1st/2nd graders to believe they could be published authors one day- I wanted them to SEE themselves having achieved it- so we created individual author bios with pictures to put on the backs of their stories. Now it's a visual reminder of what could be #g2great
Sorry to run but going to see the Art Fair/Open House at my school. Even though retired it will always be my school. That’s where Hope is for me, with kids. #g2great
A5 Love that term! Communicate to kids that we're never satisfied with "getting there". We're always thinking, questioning, researching. We never stop wanting to learn more. Ts can model this for other adults as well as their Ss. #lifelonglearning#g2great
A6 I feel it all begins with helping students unlearn the boxes that they were taught to stay in. Only then can we open their worlds and allow curiosity to be quenched. #G2Great
A5:next year I’ll be teaching Kindergarten. I’m realistic that not everything will go as planned, but hopeful that we’ll have more successes than failures. My Ss and I will be learning about hope together. 😊#G2Great
A6: I call my Ss writers, scientists, & mathematicians. I try to honor their inquiries and encourage them to seek out and investigate their areas of passion as well as teach others about it. #G2Great
A5: The two most important states in which we find ourselves in any activity be it performing, reading, writing. . .are NOW and NEXT. Where are we NOW and where will we hope to be NEXT? There is no NEXT without NOW. Hope is the multi-lane bridge between the two states. #g2great
A6: ask kids what they want to do in life... don’t shut down their dreams of being a pro soccer player. Encourage them to keep dreaming and possibilities. #G2Great
A6: We have to allow time for quiet thinking, kids will naturally daydream so we should support their tendency to daydream by helping them to envision what could come next #G2Great
A5: The two most important states in which we find ourselves in any activity be it performing, reading, writing. . .are NOW and NEXT. Where are we NOW and where will we hope to be NEXT? There is no NEXT without NOW. Hope is the multi-lane bridge between the two states. #g2great
A6 WE have to make time and space for intellectually curious daydreaming in every day. This is not something we schedule but what permeates the learning day. #G2Great
A6: Give them the opportunities to experience what @KellyGToGo calls “Imaginative rehearsals” by reading books based on topics they want to explore. Then provide ways for them to write about their thoughts and share to real audiences like @nerdybookclub#G2Great
A5 I love the term #nexting - What's next questions help us reflect on possibilities that are to come. Nexting is a reflective practice. WE can help others reflect w collaborative conversations. #g2great
In reply to
@hayhurst3, @brennanamy, @DrMaryHoward, @franmcveigh
A6: every day is an opportunity to imagine our becoming; choice writing invites possibilities, choice reading links present and future, but Ts hold the power to give permission to As how far they'll stretch. T's are you stretching? #g2great
A5: I think sometimes it's the MESS that is next. So often, we talk & ask kids what to do; but, then, we just do what we had planned. It's when kids see their ideas in action - in glorious, messy ways - that they really buy in to whatever we are all doing together! #G2great

A6 We can begin by modeling OUR role as intellectually curious daydreamers. We do this across ea learning day to show it’s who we are & make room for kids to do so as well. #G2Great
A6: I love letting students show what they know how they know best. It gives those who struggle to perform in one way a chance to be great in others. A brilliant artist draws almost everything he submits with a brief write up. He is not interested in writing big essays #G2Great
Yes, they need to get outside of those boxes and they need to know that is what we value so they feel safe to step outside of the box and really engage in divergent thinking #g2great
A6: Allow students to envision the best possible versions of themselves and think about ways to get there. Let them know their possibilities are endless. Really listen to them and let them know you value their dreams as important #G2Great
A7 I love NPR, This I believe and This American Life. As I practice Mindfulness, my students are always taken on a mindful journey in text and stories... #g2great
A7 I love picture books about kindness and hope (Being Me, Where Oliver Fits, Happy Dreamer). I also love @cpoole27 Teachonomy podcast...it is always positive, full of gratitude, hope and positive thinking. A must listen for all! #g2great

It was Stiggens who got me started in this work. Hattie's work also supports this type of assessment culture. But why is it still not happening in so many places? #g2great
A5: The two most important states in which we find ourselves in any activity be it performing, reading, writing. . .are NOW and NEXT. Where are we NOW and where will we hope to be NEXT? There is no NEXT without NOW. Hope is the multi-lane bridge between the two states. #g2great
#G2great A6 I've started many years with students acting as "The Expert of the Day" celebrating their gifts & I used the book attached to assist students in recognizing their intelligence & possible contributions to the future "Past Greats & Future Greats" along w/ Dream Journals

A6 Make conversational collaboration the heartbeat of each day. We must show kids their thinking matters & that we grow in the company of fellow intellectually curious daydreamers! #G2Great
A7: During my afterschool class based on “Upstanders” by @SaraKAhmed and @smokeylit , I showed YouTube videos of other Ss being upstanders to inspire my Ss to find ways to stand up for other people or for the environment. #g2great
A7: Books like Fish In A Tree with characters that struggle like many do in the classroom but learn and grow along the way. Picture books about real people like Emmanuel’s Dream that show ordinary people doing extraordinary things. #G2Great
Teachers set forth with how they were taught and what their cooperating teacher modeled for them. Changing these things takes tremendous time. #G2Great

A6: To have natural reflection & daydreaming, I encourage free choices of what to write during Writing Workshop, passion expert projects, opening up new & diff Explorations areas as interests/ideas come up. Having open-ended spaces, tools, hearts is essential! #G2great
So I’m going to add an impromptu question without a slide for those who see this How do we counteract those who do not bring a spirit of HOPE into their classrooms. How do we create SCHOOLS of hope rather than pockets of hope? #G2great
A7 I love Peter Reynold’s “Happy Dreamer” and now can’t wait to get the newest Peter and Susan Verde Collaboration, I Am Human. @peterhreynolds@susanverde#G2Great
A7: Unless we find ways of making school work for ALL, kids will have difficulty finding hope in school. The dropout numbers alone confirm this. Hope cannot be sustained unless the avenues to learning are visible and doable and attainable for ALL. #g2great

Q4 - we teach kids that their past performance does not define them by teaching them all about the brain, about having a growth mindset, and celebrating mistakes. A mistake is an exercise for the brain that helps it grow and get stronger. #G2Great#growthmindset
Love this @DrMaryHoward ...Hope is more than a Mindset, it should be a movement, part of the bigger culture of school. It should reach every child and adult within the walls of the building. #G2Great

Yes definitely Jim And exactly why we can’t allow hope to make it’s way into small pockets of a school. It has to be the culture so its in the very air we breathe! #G2great

A6 Opening the world to students & its possibilities can come through books, conversations, real word projects that tap into curiosity & wonder. Provide scenarios for Ss to explore. #G2Great

A7 Sara Ahmed’s new book, Being the Change, is a perfect complement to the topic of HOPE. I believe this book is a professional MUST! @SaraKAhmed@HeinemannPub#G2Great
A7: Peter Johnston’s Choice Words support T language which creates agency in Ss so that they have a positive narrative for learning and growing. #g2great

Asking Ss about their hopes and dreams part of the school culture. Any time an adult in the building talks to a student ask them what are they doing to reach their dream. #G2Great
Before this amazing chat ends, I hope you will take a look at this idea and share it with your principal or whomever might be able to help it come to pass. Teachers learning is a game changer for our students! https://t.co/MYHM8trVKm#G2Great
A(x): Same way we do with kids. Care for one another. Sit with the teacher who feels alone. Ask them how life is treating them. Allow for learning from mistakes. Lift up the voices of others. #g2Great

Challenge! I will not only keep spreading my messages of kindness and hope, I will celebrate some incredible people with signs of hope and bigger things to hope. Make others feel seen and heard and appreciated for all they do. Show them their hope for a better world. #g2great
Thank you so much @hayhurst3 for bringing me back to #G2Great tonight. Deep and inspirational thinking about Hope and our students lives that depend on it. Thank you all for the wonderful chat!
HOPE is not going to happen just by wishing upon a professional star. We have to take action and we have to carry hope in our back pockets everywhere we go. It’s going to take ALL of us! #G2Great
Thank you for joining our hopeful PLN Every day you inspire your students to believe in themselves and a better future thank you. You are the change makers! @brennanamy@DrMaryHoward@franmcveigh#G2Great
