Our chat will focus on the idea that we can lead and make positive change from any position in our school systems. Leadership is not about a title, it is a way of thinking and acting.
"Our format will include 7 questions. Use A1 to respond to Q1 & remember to include the hashtag #leadlap
Are you ready? Let's ROCK this thing!" #leadlap
Good morning, #leadlap crew! I’m getting to spend my Saturday exploring Boston with these two amazing people! TY @jeffreykubiak for steering the ship today!
Good Morning - Meredith joining from SW Florida. While waiting for the chat to begin I was busy with this list ---> 100 educators to follow on Twitter - https://t.co/wLyckZb5Cr via @mrkempnz WOW! LOTS of International educators. Thanks for the list, Craig! #LeadLAP
Hello, #LeadLAP! Mark here, elementary principal in Hopkins, MN. Thrilled to be part of the crew here with my friend @jeffreykubiak leading the way this morning!
A1: I definitely feel mid-year right now. I try to fight the slump by planning little surprises for my coworkers and laughing with them (we had a good laugh session yesterday afternoon!) #LeadLAP
A1: Extra celebrations! Surprises! LOTS of positivity and fun!! We also have #EdCampSEMO in two weeks, so that will re-energize everyone who attends too! #Leadlap
A1: This is a great time to try something new. Change it up! Spring is about renewal and re-birth and GROWTH. What can your Ss do now that maybe they didn't have capacity for earlier? #LeadLAP
A1: Now is the time to bring back the JOY! Change things up! Bring in some hooks! Show a little extra kindness! Let Ss and Ts have some more choice and voice - celebrate the GOOD and rock this slump OUT! #LeadLap
A1 I always try to bring it with energy and celebration. Always bring the fun and enthusiasm to whatever you do. Use music, dance, voices. Also celebrate efforts and accomplishments. Surprise cards, coffees, drinks, books. Any small gesture to say: You’re awesome! #LeadLAP
Good morning, I'm Ashley from UW-Platteville in Wisconsin. This is one of my first twitter chats. I'm doing this as part of my senior seminar course requirement.
#leadlap
Good morning! I’m an aspiring educational leader and current first grade teacher in VaBeach. Ready to share, learn, and reflect with you guys this morning! #LeadLAP
A1 this is where you bring your inner “bring it on” spirit. Become cheerleader extraordinaire. We have to bring the energy every day or else the slump will tank the school. #LeadLAP
A1: So often, we hear leaders/staff say we'll start or try that next year - but now is the time to try and pilot/practice new ideas! Take risks, have fun, and make mistakes. Leaders - remind, inspire, and push your stuff to do something different! #leadlap
A1: This is when you look for little reasons to celebrate and focus on the positive things that are taking place. Make it a big deal. Highlight, Spotlight. & Rejoice! #LeadLAP
A1: During the "mid-year slump" it's essential to energize the school community. It's a great time to start a service learning project to focus on a cause larger than ourselves. @JTHSFalcons is kicking off our crowdfunding at https://t.co/ViyTGUNZuI! #leadlap
A1. It is hard to imagine but over 30 days without sunshine in parts of the upper Midwest can be enough to sink a ship. Choices have to be made to be the SUNSHINE!! #leadlap
A1: Passion is the fuel that drives the success. Nothing was accomplished without passion. It starts with a vision. Vision creates passion, passion creates drive, drive creates results. #passion#believe#drive#leadlap
A1: at @wmirvinelem we have two big events coming up to break out of “mid-year slump”
1) Spanish Spelling Bee 🐝
2) Cinco de mayo FIESTA with ESL parents and staff 🙌🏼💕🌟
#leadLAP
A1: This time of year is gloomy weather-wise in IN... therefore a new environment must be created for my students. I do all I can and pull out as many hooks as possible from my toolbox! #LeadLAP
A1: Howdy #leadlap from Barbara, school counselor in TX. We set up an Escape Room in counseling classes this week to challenge our leaders to GROW! Play is our brain's favorite way to learn; engaging and fun to play together. https://t.co/d0qtZdTZxV
A1: energy is contagious! Be an example and pull them out of their slump! Make lessons fun, encourage laughter and celebrations, and refocus on your why! #leadlap
A1: BRING IT! It’s all in the energy... be at the door greeting them like day 1. LCL in place. Hook them every day so that the next is filled with excitement before they even arrive! #Nan3EDU#LeadLap
A1. I try to wake up in time everyday to mentally set the tone for my day and right my energy and spirit. When I bring passion, it helps others. #LeadLAP
A1: I like to remind others of the little things that mean so much... not passing anyone in the hall without a greeting, high fives with kids, calling kids by name, lifting colleagues up when they are having a tough day, etc. #leadlap
A1: Be up front about the obstacles this part of the yr brings, get the team together & let all know we'll have to be there to cheer one another on. Remind yourself & others of our WHY. HAVE FUN! Bring out the music, laughter, high fives. #LeadLAP
A1: this week we had some PD time with our first year Ts... we played a “teacher card game, quizlet live, showed them Powtoon, and let them play. I loved the laughter we heard! #LeadLap
#LeadLAP A1: always nice to take some time to check out: how are you feeling? How can I support you? Don’t live in a silo and don’t let others go unnoticed.
A1: Add more hugs to the daily routine. Provide a service to a colleague that is feeling depleted. Remind yourself to reflect on all that you have accomplished #leadLAP
A1: We try to keep things fun. Staff-student Volleyball games and fun bingo teacher lounge activity that staff put together. We just opened a new Student Collaboration Space that has Ts and Ss excited. #leadlap
A1: Where is your passion? Passion is not just an emotion and passion is not just a state of mind, passion is a conscious state of being. Passion is your slump buster! #Believe#StartsWithHeart#Relentless#leadlap
A1. I’ve never been able to not be ALL IN. For me, which is not always a good thing, it’s usually ALL IN or nothing. But...pushing hard is more fun and exciting. #LeadLAP
A1: We had our faculty retreat yesterday and got to hear Sr. Nancy Murray (Bill Murray's sister) re-enact Catherine of Sienna's story. Just some time to reflect and relax. #LeadLAP
We're in a new year and Spring is upon us, essential to totally realize that it's a great time to have new ideas, fresh faces in your communities for optimal growth. #LeadLap
A1: I totally agree with the JOY comments. Have fun with your Ss celebrate them and their learning. In primary grades one of my favorite times of day is morning meetings. It’s a time to connect with the kiddos and set the day off on the right note. #LeadLAP
A1: By never letting it happen. If you or your Ss are in a slump, think about how it came to be and what you need to do differently next year. #leadlap
A1. Add extra HOOKS, classroom transformations, take a lesson and add some pizzazz like a fidget spinner;) also giving kids platform in teaching their passions! @geniushour#leadlap
A1. Getting into classrooms and making learning relevant and fun. Challenge Ts and Ss to be creative and try something new. I am challenging Ss to create in @tinkercad to print on the 3D printer in my office. #LEADlap
A1: I try to look for new & creative activities to corporate into my lessons to shake things up & excite my Ss! Can’t fall into a slump... must keep going! Putting the finishing touches on a March Madness lesson that’s sure to be a big hit! #LeadLAP
A1: Such a good question! Our staff was amazing yesterday--so many great things happening for our students! We are celebrating #MusicInOurSchools Month with a #FalconFriday concert series in March featuring our music ensembles. It's a great way to start a Friday! #LeadLAP
A1: Find easy ways for staff to support one another & feed positivity. We just started spreading #PositiveGossip around our school. We have these cards ready at our mrng huddles, we write awesome things we 👀, share the news! #LeadLAP
A2: It's important that kids see you being authentically kind and then calling it out when you see kids doing it. I feel like kindness gets "overused" when we make it inauthentic and forced #LeadLAP
Jumping in late from Spring Break Curt Slater Proud Team Member of the Wyoming @Jrwildcatsroar Team. Love this time of year because it’s my job to fill teachers and students emotional buckets. That is what Mid Year is all about. Snack cart for parent teacher conference #LeadLAP
A1 Fun and Laughter help! Adding bits of joy into the day make a big difference in attitude. I also bring around treats on occasion. A little something makes people smile. #LeadLAP
A1. Recognize and appreciate the greatness in your school! Let Ts know you see the extra work they put into tutoring, or that really innovative lesson, or the relationships they’ve built with their Ss. And don’t forget to smile! #LeadLAP
A2 Make sure that EVERY student has at least one trusted adult on the campus! Everyone needs to have someone crazy about them and to be their advocate. #leadlap@SteeleThoughts
A1: I stated this week it's hard to adult right now let alone teen. Encouraged staff and modeled in big ways how to be bold to show we care. Makes everyone feel boosted. #leadlap
A2 Kindness needs to be a way of life, a core centre of a school’s vision/mission. We need to stick away from kindness “projects” & move to regular/automatic actions. Work on smiles, greetings, helping, cheering on, building family/community. Be kind. Always. #bekindEDU#LeadLAP
A2. Seriously...the whole world would be better if people would just be nice! I’ve never been a fan of mean & unhappy people. Can’t let them steal my joy or poison my energy. I smile real big at them. It’s hard to be mad at a person with a big smile. #LeadLAP
A2: Every act of kindness must be recognized & appreciated. We must reinforce the positive behaviors we want to see our students repeat. That's when it becomes part of the culture. #leadlap
A2: Be the model of kindness. Outwardly recognize when others are kind. Make a point of overtly talking about how kindness looks and feels as acts of kindness are happening. Mention an acts impact #leadLAP
#leadlap A2: no "comma dumbass" replies. If the tone of response indicates it could be followed with ", dumbass" then it's not appropriate. Talk about this with Ss.
Awww! Shoutout to all my favorite Kindness Cultivators and so many more! Kindness is the heartbeat of everything we DO! We plant the seeds of kindness to bloom all year ‘round! #LeadLAP

@jeffreykubiak, @staci_erickson2, @NowakRo
1) We’ve implementing Risky Thursdays. I’m challenging teachers every Thursday to go big and expand their pedagogy. Last week was Paperless Thursday. Next week we go paperless and without Chromebooks. The challenge invigorates Ss and Ts! #Leadlap
A2: This coming week, slow yourself down and be alert for people who need your smile, your kind words, or your helping hand. Make kindness a centerpiece of your dealings with others. They will be blessed, and you will be, too. #leadlap
Relationships relationships relationships. It’s overused for a reason, because it matters. If you don’t have a relationship with your school community (teachers, admin, classified, and students) you’re probably in the wrong field. #LeadLAP
Sorry I’m late - still caught up in last night’s game! So happy for and proud of our kids. #OnLosLunas
Robert, proud principal of Los Lunas HS, in the house - good morning! #LeadLAP
A2: Post it so it's out in front of them. Model it so they see it in action. Celebrate it when #kindness happens. Listen to their kind ideas and help them turn those into a school-wide crusade. Invite Ss to share examples of kind exemplars. #leadlap
A2 We have to teach our expectations to our students but we also NEED to teach our students to have a VOICE the process and give them the tools to make it happen. FEEDBACK IN A TIMELY MANNER IS SOOOO IMPORTANT. #LeadLAP
A2: We emphasize Choose Kind each day in our and talk about what that means throughout the day in different settings. We do a Daily Wonder quote of the day. We make it part of our discipline procedure as well. #LeadLap
A2: Our stu leaders & #CTkindness create opportunities to add positivity to our school culture. Ss created Black HistMon program in Feb,are currently creating a women’s hist living museum & celebrate teachers weekly w/ our #CTcelebrates cart (shout out to @BethHouf !). #LeadLAP
A2: To scatter seeds of kindness, you have to cultivate them first! Lead by example. Be the change you want to see in others. It's incredible the ripple effect you will cause for GOOD! #LeadLAP
A2- intentionally teaching it.our teachers do at least 5 challenges with their students each semester. Sometimes they do more. Here is a calendar that I sent to them for March. #LeadLap
A2: walk the walk. Don’t just talk about it show examples of it daily to/ your students, explicitly point it out when you notice it and show that you value it daily. #LeadLAP
A2: kindness can only be learned through experiencing it. We have to do more than talk about it and show it, we have to make opportunities for students to experience the benefits of kindness #leadlap
A2: To be kind & empathetic, we need to know, understand, & appreciate each other! Help students (and adults!) to learn about each other, different cultures and traditions, backgrounds, stories, etc. Then we can begin to truly care/understand. #leadlap
A2: Students need to see the adults in the building showing kindness to one another and their students. Posters on walls and in classrooms affirming that kindness matters also supports this mantra. Student leaders official and unofficial who model kindness helps. #LeadLAP
A2: Modeling is truly key! Allow students to know you are on the kindness journey too! Even when frustration gets the best of you and you stray from the path. You can open that reflection and it is truly powerful! #LeadLAP
A2: To scatter seeds of kindness, you have to cultivate them first! Lead by example. Be the change you want to see in others. It's incredible the ripple effect you will cause for GOOD! #LeadLAP
A2: Model kindness always. If we want students to be kind we need to make sure we are always striving to be caring and kind to students, staff and parents #LeadLAP
A2: We are an @EnergyBusSchool - part of our culture is growing positive leaders. This month, we are focusing on the principle "Positive leaders transform negativity." We do this as a staff & w our Ss. Powerful life skill. #LeadLAP
A2: Kindness must be taught. It has to be modeled, it has to be talked about, and it has to be praised. When you see a child demonstrating kindness, make a big deal out of it. Let them know how proud you are of them. #LeadLAP
A2. Encourage kind efforts. The synergy that comes in serving others together helps develop an attitude of kindness that becomes authentic in daily life! #LeadLAP
A2: In our school, we teach kindness and community through our #FalconsCARE groups. These groups are focused on a community outreach opportunity that is meaningful to both the staff and students in each group. #LeadLAP#ChooseKind
Hey! Much appreciate the support. You can't go wrong! I may suggest starting with #tlap since it was the first. As principal, #LeadLAP would be essential, too. Then #LearnLAP for student-led ideas, #XPLAP for gamification, and #PlayLAP for even more fun!
Love your steps! I believe @JayBilly2 has inspiring steps in his building, too! So great! Our middle school has this quote painted on their wall! #LeadLap#passionforkindness
A2b: Another way to appreciate #kindness is to express gratitude when it has been show. Here's the map to show all of the places that sent cards of comfort after 65 of our Ss and 12 of our teachers were displaced by #HurricaneHarvey in August. #leadlap
A2 Make sure that EVERY student has at least one trusted adult on the campus! Everyone needs to have someone crazy about them and to be their advocate. #leadlap@SteeleThoughts
A2: Be kind. We are human. We blow it sometimes with our snark. But no one is too young to be apologized to and asked for forgiveness. If you have a realtionship built on kindness, they will offer it. #LeadLAP
A2: We set the models for our Ss in showing kindness to others. Kindness activities throughout the year give Ss the chance to practice being kind & empathetic #LeadLAP
A2: Ss need to actually experience what it feels like to do kind acts. It motivates them to do more! Provide hands on opportunities & experiences. They love it! #leadlap
#LeadLap | Continue the education fight, I support Education as a Parent and encourage us all to do the same by giving of time, resources, and money to Education around the world.
A3: I subscribe to the Ron Clark philosophy on focusing on my runners instead of my walkers and riders...I have found that they either start making changes or else they get themselves out of the way...
#LeadLAP
A2: Our Ss just finished making Kindness Rocks for Parkland, FL and now they are creating their own Kindness Passion Projects to showcase at our Kindness Share Fair in May. Here's how we did it last year: https://t.co/CNUG0UAeJY#LeadLAP
A3 Always felt REALLY strongly that we needed to incorporate kindness/empathy/relationships into literature/daily reading then easier transition into actual behavior. #leadlap (graphic made by @cvarsalona )
A2: We are an @EnergyBusSchool - part of our culture is growing positive leaders. This month, we are focusing on the principle "Positive leaders transform negativity." We do this as a staff & w our Ss. Powerful life skill. #LeadLAP
I love to introduce some new technology options for my first graders! It refuels them and gets them excited to use the apps in so many different ways! A few of our favourites are stopmotion and buncee ! #LeadLAP
A3: Leading by example. Creating new and innovative practices and sharing the data to show it’s worthwhile. Let students have choice and voice! #LeadLAP
A2: kindness can only be learned through experiencing it. We have to do more than talk about it and show it, we have to make opportunities for students to experience the benefits of kindness #leadlap
A3: Listen, encourage them to get input from the Ss. Get them together with Colleagues. Expose them to new things. Get them PD. Allow them to reflect and plan without judgement. Lead them. #LeadLAP
A2b: I kindergarten, I have to teach kindness intentionally, because they need sentence stems to kindly convey frustration or anger. A culture of kindess is imperative. #LeadLAP
A2: For kindness culture, it's OK to explain even to HS students that finding something positive to say is good & thinking the negative without saying it is a skill we should all practice #IfYouDoNotHaveSomethingNiceToSay.. #LeadLAP
A3 I ask them what about that strategy is best for kids. Listen and question further and insert different ideas and help them improve their strategy. #LeadLAP
A3: This question is hard as a teacher, but I'm not sure if it's any easier as an admin. I try to offer constructive criticism about a strategy and offer something a bit better. Sometimes people bite and sometimes they stick with what they know. #LeadLap
A3) Provide mentors; have colleagues share their best practices; model for them; allow them to visit others; get them to collaborate with others. #LeadLAP
Thank you! This has proven to be a very powerful way to get a message across while at the same time allowing us to keep it updated with chalk paint!
#LeadLAP
A3: Model it! I invite our staff in to judge challenges and be part of our classroom experience! The energy is electric & they love seeing Ss shine! #leadlap#tlap#xplap
A3: by finding ways to introduce educational literature highlighting new research or begin studying high-leverage instructional practices, but coming back to student data is important #Leadlap
A3. Empower and share information instead of judging. When trying to inspire change in others, don’t start with harsh judgement or criticism. Ask how can I help you get better? What do you want to improve? Find a nugget of success and build on it. #LeadLAP
A2: Promoting kindness has to be a primary part of your culture. Ss sense this immediately & when this is a deep part of the fabric in your school, Ss will follow your model. #LeadLAP
A3: I think this is a time when you can invite that teacher to your room to see what great things you are doing in your room and how it is helping your students to achieve. I think they must see it in action. Action speaks louder than words. #LEadLAP
A3: Have the teacher explain WHY it's best for kids. Could there be MORE than one way to do "what's best for kids?" Are they learning in spite of us, not because of us? Are they having fun and taking ownership of their learning #LeadLAP
A3: "What's best for kids" is a concept that is ever-changing. I compare education to other fields to try to spur change. Every other field looks to improve & advance, so why should we be any different? #leadlap
A2: @responsiveclass Morning Meeting - Daily practice in all classrooms. A way to embed kindness into classroom & school culture. Oh the power of Morning Meeting! 💙 #leadlap
a3 I have to be careful with that. My middle name could be "overwhelm." Too much enthusiasm can shut others down bc there are only so many hrs in the day. #leadlap
A3 Invite them into your classroom/world. Model the amazingness for kids. Offer with any changes to support and collaborate. We are in this together. When they see the energy/engagement/love of learning, it is contagious. Never give up! Be that person for others. #LeadLAP
A3: kids have changed! We have to keep ourselves up to date on what is really best for kids. What was best ten years ago is not best anymore. We have to stay in touch with their needs and continue growing and learning ourselves. #leadlap
A2. We do kind projects within our school, home & community. made snowman soup 4 fire/police dept. we created kindness 🌲 where put their good deeds on hand/added light when accomplished, put cards on staff cars- created kindness hall-kids could grab a good deed to do!
#leadlap
A1 now is a time for leaders to bridge current state and desired state work - future thinking teams leverage creative energy up while current state work sustains their collaborative focus on analytics - one feeds the other and keeps teams in a more positive frame #LeadLAP
Bringing the heat here, Kubiak! A3: At high school, a lot of that is lecture. Show them where it has its place and then where it cannot be the only method. Love how #TLAP has transformed one of my veterans. #LeadLAP
Oh, Mark, I LOVE that acronym for KIND! Very cool! I would love to know more about your kindness initiatives around your building to keep KIND rolling strong all year! #LeadLAP
I try to share others ways of working on the same curriculum or big idea to peek their interest sometimes it works sometimes not. Always offer support with changes #leadlap
A3: A partner in crime is always fun... find a way to team up and blend ideas. If you can open the door they may just walk right through! Break down the barrier... find their strength and make it explode! #LeadLAP#Nan3EDU
A3- show them. I missed teaching and was originally going to teach history. Then an instructional coach job was presented to me and I jumped all over it. I can now show and have more time to help teachers. Still in a leadership role just a different capacity. #LeadLAP
A3: I try to support those who want to do things differently, and then connect them with the staff leaders. The leaders buy in, and once we reach a tipping point ... those folks have a decision to make. #LeadLAP
A3: Show them!!! Take them to observe classrooms, examples, data, model in their room, etc. Show them the results and impact of a new method/strategy! People need to see to believe! #leadlap
#LeadLAP A3. Reading current book studies on change has helped. Also sending new ideas to them gives them I don't want to say permission but maybe more drive to try new things.
A3: I think part of inspiring teachers is leading by example, modeling your expectations, providing support and encouragement, and celebrating success when they #TakeARisk to make a change! Change can be scary--it's beneficial if we can make it safe too. #LeadLAP
A3 People love success stories. Have teachers who have walked away from outdated practices tell their stories. Many Ts want to change, but don't know how to, or think change is too difficult. Make it easier for them. #leadLAP
A3: I have this struggle currently and sadly have no clear answer! There are HS teachers in my building that refuse to use tech or innovative practice because they need to "prepare them for college!" #LeadLAP
A3: encourage collaboration and visiting each other’s class to observe...ask them to tell you about something you noticed them doing in their class...I noticed xxx, can you tell me more about that? Open the conversation with them... #LEadLAP
A3 I've been really intrigued to learn more about @SibmeApp and the use of video coaching. @eduleadership I can't think of anything more inspiring that watching a video of your own teaching practices and then reflecting about how to get better! #leadLAP
Have you heard of Classcraft? Educator, Kyle Morton is using it to motivate students to step it up in their own learning!! #tlap#leadlap So much more fun than quizlet or kahoot! CHECK IT OUT!! ⭐️⭐️ You even get your own character and take a journey on quests!!
A3: we can’t change others we can only lead them to self reflection by inspiring, providing examples, engaging them in thoughtful dialog so THEY decide to make a change #leadLAP
A3: Model & invite them in to participate/observe new ideas!! We have the #pineapplechart that is a great opportunity to learn from others! Also.. share new books or great tweets w/ all staff!! Be a mentor when someone shows interest in learning more! #LeadLAP
A3: As a leader, I have to be sure I am modeling what I expect to see in Instruction first before I address institutional issues of others. 😊😊 #LeadLap
A2: Standing in the margins. Use your privilege positively. Understanding you can't outkind injustice. Work to daily exercise empathy. Listen. Listen. Listen. #LeadLAP
A3. Listen to their hearts, hear WHY they believe it’s best for kids, and then provide them opportunities to explore with teachers meeting the same goal in a more innovative way. Sometimes we all have to see it in action! #LeadLAP
#leadlap A3: ask T "do you care about your Ss? does it matter to you that they know that?" if your school does any kind of Ss survey....ask the Q, share results privately.
A2b: another way I like to promote kindness is by getting into classrooms & specials. By involving Ss, Ts, & all stakeholders, & settings, kindness can spread like crazy! ❤#leadlap
A3: My mantra around this is "High expectations with soft landings." Communicate to bring clarity around the shared vision, model risk taking, make it fun!, be there to support, then celebrate like crazy when change is incorporated. #LeadLAP
A3. @classcraftgame works with what students today buy-in to ... setting goals and the family/home school component is so important. Check it out. #leadlap
A3: Model & invite them in to participate/observe new ideas!! We have the #pineapplechart that is a great opportunity to learn from others! Also.. share new books or great tweets w/ all staff!! Be a mentor when someone shows interest in learning more! #LeadLAP
A3: Start a conversation and truly seek to understand why they believe these practices are best for Ss. Ask questions, push thinking. Engage with their PLCs - peer support is often a good motivator. Offer a chance to observe other teachers. #LeadLAP
A3) Share with other Ts the “light bulb moments” from using these tools. Sometimes they need to see Ss reach the same impressive learning but thru innovative modes. #LeadLAP
A3 Engage and expose the teacher to authentic learning. Many times teachers come from a genuine place but don’t know how what they are doing could be better. Teaching can be isolating, get them observing & collaborating with other inspiring educators. PLCs are powerful. #LeadLAP
It’s just our first week & my Ss are loving this #globalcollaboration so much!! They’ve already used @Flipgrid & padlet to connect!! Can’t describe the learning & fun that takes place when you reach out beyond your 4 walls!! #tlap#LeadLAP
In reply to
@tishrich, @MrsCford_tweets, @Flipgrid
A3: You only inspire people if you value people. You only enlarge experiences if you value experiences. It’s the value that brings value to inspiration. #leadlap
A4: Surprise #ThankfulThursday Order snacks/treats, and e-mail out to staff to come to the office. Once there, they need to write a note of appreciation to a colleague before picking up food. Staff loves it and it spreads joy/appreciation! #leadlap
A3: I think part of inspiring teachers is leading by example, modeling your expectations, providing support and encouragement, and celebrating success when they #TakeARisk to make a change! Change can be scary--it's beneficial if we can make it safe too. #LeadLAP
A4 The night after Parent Conferences our admins surprised @KennedyMedical@JFKCougars teachers with complimentary coffee and doughnuts the next morning. Happy Ts=Happy Ss #LeadLAP
Awesome idea! I think letting them see the connections makes it so real! If we are always the ones they follow who are we following? We must model our growth and follow great leaders around us! #Leadlap#Nan3EDU
A3 Build a culture of continuous learning and reflection, support with data, and use book and video studies to spark discussions. Watch the kids...are they engaged, inspired, and achieving? #LeadLap
A4: Our students nominate teachers and staff for our version of the Woot Woot Wagon; we call it our CT Celebration Cart. Our staff love the unexpected positivity!! #CTcelebrates#LeadLAP
A3: That is SO hard to overcome. Ts need to see that what USED to be best, no longer applies - and here's WHY then offered a ton of support to build capacity to do something different/scary. One thing at a time. #LeadLAP
Our societal shift is that our Ss and Ts see a lot of mean around us- the media focuses on it. We need more stories of kindness. Manners? Etiquette? Chivalry?#LeadLAP
A4. Truth - I have had grown men come into my office in tears from reading heartfelt notes of appreciation.
Consider stopping with cookies/candy - write a sincere note. #leadlap
A4 So many treats I love to do: coffees, gift cards, personal note cards, drink runs, books, chocolates, homemade baked goods. It is the gesture and thought that counts. When you show that you take your own time & energy for them, it means the world. #LeadLAP
A3: When we committed to our shared vision, we also committed to being a group of shared learners. We move forward on our path to greatness TOGETHER. We had 12 summer book studies, all around T choice, all T-led. #lifelonglearning#LeadLAP
A4: love the idea of a Woot woot wagon. I brought new laptops to all my crew on Thursday...it was fun and they were so happy...updating old tech! #LEadLAP
A4: Giving positive news! When things are tough sometimes we really need to focus on the “wins” to keep everyone focused on their “why”. Remind others it’s not always@easy, but it’s worth it. #LeadLAP
A4) They seem to love food in the lounge. I've celebrated with Mid-Winter Meltdown, March Madness Days, cooked conference meals, set up a popcorn bar, stole the "Orange You Glad" treat idea. #LeadLAP
A4: This is something I am always having to work on. I leave thank you notes, and make sure I give public recognition to folks. Occasionally they get pirate stickers too-even at HS. 😜 #LeadLAP
A4: Staff shout outs are a great pick me up. We also have an awesome Sunshine Club that constantly recognizes colleagues, holidays, & life events. They've been awesome for school climate! #leadlap
A4. I don’t over compliment but always connect it to evidence so when I acknowledge the good work of others it is appreciated. Too many leaders are rote with the “good job”. Just my opinion. #LeadLAP
Q4: I always have my candy dish filled. My office door is open and there is always an extra cup and coffee and tea available. I often post messages intended to spread hope love and joy on my office 🚪#leadLAP
A4: I leave homemade treats in our Tiny Tech Cafe, drop Anchors of Appreciation notes, lots of smiles in the hall and checking up on Ts to ask how I can help! #LeadLAP
A4: Last week we wrote personal messages to every staff member sharing one awesome thing we’ve observed them do for kids. Shared each one publicly at our staff meeting.
Heart before head, always. #leadlap
@jeffreykubiak@Dr_LMR@BethHouf Ours is called the Beverage Buggy but we haven't put snacks on there ... YET. Awesome #kindness idea to uplift and affirm hard-working staff members. #leadlap
I love sharing my success stories with #flexibleseating and how it’s improved my classroom management so much! I also love SHOWING them my kids using technology instead of just telling them to try it. #LeadLAP
A4: I love to host “Tea with Dr. T.” It gives me an opportunity to treat the teachers and interns that I work with with something special, and we get to know each other on a more personal basis outside of the classroom. #LeadLAP
A3: By modeling, sharing ideas, sharing what's worked for you & the "why," collaborating, leading by example. Inviting them to observe, praising their efforts to be innovative. #leadlap

A4: I also start the year with a staff survey so I can get to know Ts better and find out ways they like to be shown appreciation - some like public kudos and others prefer small gifts/candy. Building stronger relationships is definitely one of my goals this year! #LeadLAP

A4: I made these #mindfulness balloons for our staff, then gave them a 15-minute break while I read King Calm to their class families. The gift of TIME for the win. #leadlap

#leadlap A4 as a teacher, we love pick me up mid year! Treats are awesome, but words of affirmation or the gift of time off ( duties, meeting forgiveness etc) are greatly appreciated!
A1 Ramp up the excitement and enthusiasm with your staff. They are human, like everyone, and need to feel appreciated. Students will then feed off of that wave of positivity. Just imagine what you need and do it for others. Treat others the way you want to be treated. 👊 #leadlap
Thanks. They are satisfyingly addictive but come with a disclaimer that they do eventually break. Make sure to forewarn so they don't stress when water beads go bouncing in all directions. #leadlap

Q5: I can reach out to a few "quiet" teachers and check in, just to make sure they are not drowning from riptides this time of year! Often they are so overwhelmed they can't even find the time to ask for help! #LeadLAP

A4: My AP @lhelton15 and I shake it up by changing it out. Some type of snack or drink is always good especially with a variety to choose from. I also believe in the power of relationships and just letting people know the good and/ or growth you see. #LeadLAP
Yes, @burgess_shelley. It's not just about what went on in the classroom but how it influenced students. We must remember that when giving feedback. #leadlap

A5. I want to continue to change how we connect on Twitter! This week I spent day and night creating this web site for educators to connect with each other and the books they are reading. Hopefully - collaboration at its finest. It is my passion! #leadlaphttps://t.co/U0uifHdCff

Slow down from the hustle and bustle of daily edu life and make time to connect, smile, and have fun. In this high stakes edu era we sometimes feel guilty for stopping to have fun with each other but JOY is important for school culture to have effective T and Ss. #LeadLAP
A5: Love this question! We have been working to brand our school this year...Setting a tone of relationships, connections, respect, and kindness...Using Twitter, @wakelet, and a new blog to make connections, grow, and showcase what is happening in our awesome school! #LeadLAP
A4: Last year we did a school #MarchMadness bracket challenge and the winner won an Amazon giftcard. It was so much fun to have staff participate and watch who was winning. #leadlap
Teachers need reassurance too! I 💛to go into my colleagues rooms & give compliments about a project! Schools have so many amazing things going on & we don’t always have time to see it all. Stop and take a look! Get excited about their stuff! Show how they inspire you! #LeadLAP
Some of his stuff really oversimplifies things - 10000 hours, for example - but this is one where I think he’s spot on. Get the right people, and they’ll move the masses. #LeadLAP
While we know the @SFGiants are the superior team, we remain inclusive and appreciate @courtkneeruns love for the @Athletics. Sadly, it seems that’s it is just miss guided enthusiasm at best. #dontgiveup#leadLAP

A5 This was a tough week. I had to step back and remember to laugh with my staff! A good reminder: smile before I walk out my door and down the halls. #LeadLAP
It is amazing how that works for teachers AND students! I can’t tell you how many smiles I’ve received just by checking in on others! #PureJoy#YouMatter#LeadLAP
A5) To be #EduAwesome and keep my teaching constantly growing, I want to collab with teachers in the upper grades for our yearly fundraising event. #HTSBiketoBay#LeadLAP

A5: We just kicked off our EPIC (Empowering & PosItive Connections) mentoring program. ALL staff have chosen 2 Ss to intentionally connect w each week. Want to ensure that ALL Ss have trusting, positive adult who they know cares for them. #LeadLAP

Q5: This week I heard Bryan Stevenson speak. Changed my 🌎 I will: 1:Be proximate 2: Change the narrative- fear is the enemy of justice 3: Keep hope alive 4:Be willing to be uncomfortable. #leadLAP
A5: I can make sure I am out on campus & in classrooms everyday with a great attitude and positive comments to keep people motivated & connected #LeadLAP
A5: When I start "spinning", to slow down and remember to be present and intentional. Sometimes I lose my "chill", lol! I don't want to be the cause of someone else's exhaustion. #LeadLAP
A6: As a genie, I would provide time for Ss to dive into their passions, connect with others around the world, and see first-hand the impact they can make EACH DAY! All kids have passion and potential! Let's show them how to SHINE! #LeadLAP
A6: I want #ALLstudents (and staff!) to have a serenity spot like our Peace Garden, so we can all practice mindfulness and unwrap the present together, mindfully aware, without judgment. Imagine the possibilities for calm instead of chaos. #leadlap
A6 I want to transform all schools to learn, teach & lead with heart & kibdness. I have seen this happen in classrooms. This is my dream, my mission. It is not about programs, it is about people and relationships. Leading this transformation! Be kind. Always. #LeadLAP#bekindEDU
My magic would be to spread the mindset that every teacher is a true leader, valued, and can really impact the lives of kids! If teachers really believed, it would trickle down to the kids in multiple positive ways. "We're in the life-changing business!" #leadlap
Thank you Bryn. We just finished it this week, in time for Open House. What a delight it was to watch Ss take their parents on a walk to try to find their #kindness rock and share it with them! #leadlap
A6: Every single adult they come in contact with on our campus will take the time to:
-build a relationship
-realize we are there for them and not us
-find their individual awesome
#kidsdeserveit#LeadLAP
Q6: Great question. Blink, blink...I would equip every classroom with the latest & best resources, every room with a dynamite teacher, every school with a fabulous principal & parents. Every student would be filled with love, joy, peace, happiness, friendliness etc. #LEADlap
A6 If I had genie powers I would wish for all Schools world wide to have all they needed books, supplies, tech and most important safe environments #LEadLAP
The funding support we've received from our local Hanover Education Foundation has been instrumental in helping us pour into our students with creative classroom grants! Let's put our money where it MATTERS! #LeadLAP

A6: if I could change one thing it would be that all children know that we love them and that they have the power to be whom ever they choose and that we are there to help them succeed any way we are able! That would be a great day! #leadlap
A6: Wow. Lots. 1st I'd like to fulfill their Maslow needs. We need a washer/dryer, more supplies for our clothing depot, coats, toiletries, & food items. Then I'd like to bring back bef/aftr schl program, & offer fun hands-on social activities for them! ❤️our Ss! #leadlap
A6: The amount and level of support that we could give for life outside the classroom. My Ss face bigger issues and troubles then I could ever dream of, and I often feel helpless in helping them. I just provide them with love and support. #LeadLAP
A6: ALL kids would have the opportunity to have input on their education. #Stuvoice is so often overlooked even though it's so transformational. #leadlap
A7 Don’t make the mistake of not asking for help. Build connections, collaborate and help each other. Lift others up. Do not reinvent the wheel. We are in this together. #LeadLAP
A7) After 36 years as an educator and 21 as a principal, there were so many things that were reinforced and that I needed to pay attention to, again. #LeadLAP
A6: one word... BELIEVE. I want Ts to believe in their incredible power & impact, I want all educators to be relentless in their pursuit of the genius in every S, & all of us to believe in the power of collaboration. Believe in the impossible & then go make it happen. #LeadLAP

A6: If I had genie powers, I would love to see everyone have a growth mindset where they are inspired each day to take risk on new way to reach our Ss! #LeadLAP
A7: I learned from #LeadLAP that I don't have to have the admin title to consider myself, and others, a "leader." How you use the skills and talents you have to lift others higher and invoke positive change is what makes you that leader. SO EMPOWERING!
Great chat today #leadlap Lift others. Start with a Smile! Have a great week of #Kindess and beyond..... Thanks @jeffreykubiak for the reminders and encouragement!!!
A7) I loved the celebration cart and woot woot wagon by @ChoateNotes and @BethHouf Gonna take opportunity for students to give out positivity too. Ss have a voice! #LeadLAP
A6 If I had genie powers I would make every teacher have the supports they need to be successful, energized, and motivated for Ss. Excited teachers is our most powerful resource for students and burnout is all too real. #LeadLAP
A7: Prioritizing time to focus on the things that have the biggest impact on S learning! Also love the swimmer/lifeguard analogy! We are SO fortunate to have a pirate leader who is a swimmer! LOVE LOVE LOVE our pirate leader!! @diane_mackinnon#leadlap

A6: This is a challenging Q. I'd change the structure of schooling to allow for greater flexibility. More hands-on learning, more opportunities engage in experiences outside the high school in "real" settings, etc... #LeadLAP
Thank you #leadLAP. I love the people that engage in this chat eacheeek. Have an awesome week. Listen to Bryan Stevenson’s Ted Talk and read this book. #loveistheanswer
Stables homes, stable nutrition, Genuine LOVE for each student from their families, equal opportunities for kids regardless of socioeconomic status. OOPS I guess I’m a genie who can change FOUR things!! #Leadlap
