    In reply to @EdTechPeck
  • EdTechPeck Dec 12 @ 8:07 PM EST
A1 We need to reevaluate what PD is....we need to think about leveraging tech and how that can open new learning opps for Ts #PBLchat
  • PBLLAB Dec 12 @ 8:07 PM EST
Q1 one size fits all learning - sit and get #pblchat
    In reply to @newtechnetwork
  • mrslewis3c Dec 12 @ 8:07 PM EST
A1: Sit and get PD, Watch this video, make a plan! #pblchat
  • ReadySetBrette Dec 12 @ 8:07 PM EST
A1: I think the practice of planning PD without thinking of it as a lesson plan should be reconsidered. #PBLchat
  • MsCSLow Dec 12 @ 8:07 PM EST
A1: if you want my answer to fit the tweet limited characters, an easier question would be “which PD practices don’t need to be?” #realtalk #PBLChat

A1 #PDsucks when teachers never see each other actually teach. #pblchat
  • MrCCollington78 Dec 12 @ 8:08 PM EST
A1: Sometimes, we don’t have PD that is personalized and meaningful. We have to move past the “one size fits all” PD model and more individualized among educators. #PBLChat
  • MarianaGSerrato Dec 12 @ 8:08 PM EST
A1 cont: I do not want to hear a consultant tell me anything, sp if he/she has never actually faced students! #PBLchat
  • craftEDcm Dec 12 @ 8:08 PM EST
Re #pblchat Q)1 I'm hearing a lot of "sit & get"-why do you think that's how PD is often approached?
  • funkdaddytweet Dec 12 @ 8:08 PM EST
A1) I would like to see more differentiation and personalized learning. Modeling helps me wrap my head around things better. #pblchat
  • pblconsulting Dec 12 @ 8:08 PM EST
A1 - Location...if we believe learning can happen outside of the classroom than we can model real-world locales for adult learning as well. #pblchat
  • newtechnetwork - Moderator Dec 12 @ 8:08 PM EST
That's interesting! Take the competency based ed to the adults too?!? #pblchat
    In reply to @EdTechPeck

It's "how it's always been done," and comfortable. #pblchat
    In reply to @craftEDcm
  • LaurenPorosoff Dec 12 @ 8:09 PM EST
A1 Rather than one-off initiative-driven PD days, teachers need their professional learning experiences to fit together as a purposeful, coherent system aligned to our school values—much like the units of study we design for our students. https://t.co/3xO8C5atrM #pblchat
  • MsCSLow Dec 12 @ 8:09 PM EST
A1 cont: we need to begin innovating, engaging, differentiating, motivating I. Our PDs like we’re being pushed to do in our classrooms. #PBLChat
  • craftEDcm Dec 12 @ 8:09 PM EST
A1) When we see these ingredients: https://t.co/ZTRnOpjj8b #pblchat
  • EdTechPeck Dec 12 @ 8:09 PM EST
If we are moving to personalized and or competency based learning in the classroom, we must begin with Ts #PBLchat
  • kellywchris Dec 12 @ 8:09 PM EST
#pblchat The practice of PD - everyday is a learning/PD day - it’s not an event but should be a natural part of the learning ecosystem. #saskedchat

Q1- no clear objective and no clear question driving tchr learning. #PBLchat
  • charitypbl Dec 12 @ 8:10 PM EST
A1 - Personalization - Co-constructed goals (and ASPIRATIONS!!) and guide/collaborator/thought partner on the side while simultaneously modeling how #edtech platforms can support this. Some team, some individual, just like great #pbl #pblchat
  • emma_weatherly Dec 12 @ 8:10 PM EST
A1)We need smaller more teacher lead PD that fits our unique students ! We need to see more teacher voice in PD topics. #PBLchat
  • MarianaGSerrato Dec 12 @ 8:10 PM EST
Because it mirrors what classrooms used to look like. It is easy to say, "I provided you with the PD - see beautiful handouts" #PBLchat
    In reply to @craftEDcm
  • SaldanaMissy Dec 12 @ 8:10 PM EST
A1PD needs to be focused rather than digressing to a complaining session. #PBLChat

A1 #PDsucks when teachers are treated like a cog in the machine rather than professionals. #pblchat
  • MsCSLow Dec 12 @ 8:11 PM EST
#realtalk I imagine the lack of time & multitude of stress make it hard for admin and central office people to plan innovative PDs a lot of the time. It would be easier for me to lecture to my students all day too... #PBLchat
    In reply to @craftEDcm
  • ryanorilio Dec 12 @ 8:12 PM EST
Hey there #pblchat. Ryan here from NY. Just discovered this chat!
  • mrslewis3c Dec 12 @ 8:12 PM EST
A dream of a teacher...PD with clear objectives, Ts that come with K/NTKs to drive our learning as a staff that isn't focused on the less important details or the "I/we can't." #pblchat PD that provides deep thinking and pushes us out of our comfort zone!
  • 4salmom Dec 12 @ 8:12 PM EST
#PBLChat Katrina Martinez, School Development Coach with @newtechnetwork tardy to the party!

    In reply to @emma_weatherly
  • MrCCollington78 Dec 12 @ 8:12 PM EST
A1: We often want to be innovative and creative in teaching our kids, but want to put teachers and educators in a “sit and get” PD. We have to do the same with our adults. #PBLChat
  • ReadySetBrette Dec 12 @ 8:12 PM EST
Any good lesson plan includes differentiation, continuity, clear outcomes, etc -- all of things many of us are mentioning. PD planners have the opp to tap into their true educator selves & we'd all benefit I think #PBLchat
    • mrslewis3c Dec 12 @ 8:08 PM EST
What a great point that I think gets left out and somewhat ignored!

  • mrslewis3c Dec 12 @ 8:13 PM EST
I think that would provide a much more meaningful, authentic, and powerful experience for all educators if this was the approach to our PD sessions that are already so limited on time! #PBLchat
    In reply to @ReadySetBrette
  • EdTechPeck Dec 12 @ 8:14 PM EST
A2 Authentic, applicable, transferrable, and building with my hands #pblchat
  • ReadySetBrette Dec 12 @ 8:14 PM EST
This is often what I see when coaching teachers - the difficulty in facilitating something you may have not experienced as a learner #PBLchat
    • EdTechPeck Dec 12 @ 8:13 PM EST
Because "that is the way I was taught" or instructional leaders are not keeping up #PBLchat

  • MarianaGSerrato Dec 12 @ 8:15 PM EST
Innovation comes from taking those risks. Just because you have not experienced it yourself is not a good enough reason. #PBLchat
    In reply to @ReadySetBrette
  • EdTechPeck Dec 12 @ 8:15 PM EST
Several years ago, was working in a Makerspace....first real experience in one and blew my mind #PBLchat

Gotta bring it! How can we expect teachers to bring passion and excitement if it's never modeled for them?!? #PBLChat
    In reply to @ryanorilio
  • 4salmom Dec 12 @ 8:16 PM EST
A2: Experiencing a project through a project simulation experience. Placed into groups, given a deliverable, provided resources and the opportunity for application. Presented to a live audience. All as a learner, not a leader. #PBLChat
  • mrslewis3c Dec 12 @ 8:16 PM EST
A2: PD that provided a clear objective, clear outcomes, & a clear road map. PD that honors what we are doing & helps us build upon best practices through inquiry & agency of our own learning. I personally love PD that pushes me out of my comfort zone. #pblchat #criticalthinking
  • MrCCollington78 Dec 12 @ 8:16 PM EST
A2: I like choice and finding PD that will help me to become a better educator. Also, being able to collaborate with other colleagues and reflect on what I have learned. I’ve also been able to take what i learned and apply it to practice the next day. #PBLChat

  • emma_weatherly Dec 12 @ 8:17 PM EST
Doing the NTN badges was so helpful for me because it was at my own pace and it really made me evaluate and evolve what I was doing in the classroom. Don’t be afraid of teacher paced PD #PBLchat

A2 #pblchat - best PD I have had is PD that is relevant, personal, directly related to what I am doing and involves the people with whom I am working with daily. The experts are around us each day, they provide all the motivation a person needs not “guru quotes & tweets”!

In recent travels to Hong Kong, we learned about some REALLY cool learning experiences to immerse Ts, Ss (and parents/community) about new future trends with #blockchain, #AI #IoT and much more. If we better understand the future, we build greater shared "why" for #pbl #pblchat
