I am a doctoral candidate researching Models of Dyslexia and Assistive technology(text-to-speech). I am interested in helping all students learn and thus UDL is a natural interest. #UDLchat
Just minutes away from #UDLchat! Get ready to introduce yourself and tell us how you became interested in UDL! Check out our questions here: https://t.co/K93fnchEaH
I’m Dakota from Indiana! I became interested in UDL after I did a field experience and student teaching at #bcscudl The more I’ve learned about it, the more I’ve come to see the UDL framework as an integral part of educational justice #UDLchat
Good evening everyone at the #udlchat I’m Ron Rogers and I was first introduced to #UDL by Sue Zake about 12 years ago. She sent me to CAST for a week in Boston and my love for #UDL was kindled.
Hi, I'm a teacher from Sydney, and am studying special and inclusive education and have been learning about #UDL. in my courses. Am joining the #UDLchat to learn more about it.
As we design instruction valuing learner variability, minimizing barriers, and creating flexibility there are “sound-bites” as well as intentional “moves” that showcase the framework in action. Let’s experience UDL! #UDLchat Q1 coming up soon!
Renee Costarella, Instructional Coach from Arcadia Unified. First introduce to #UDL by admin @DanaePopovich and @KMahoney_AUSD to embed in all Tier 1 instruction. #udlchat
Q1: We are with an educator as she intentionally plans instruction and the learning environment through the UDL lens. What might the educator be saying/thinking/wondering about? #UDLchat

Kate from Indiana. My current district introduced me to it about 10 years ago. I had no clue what it was and that drove me nuts....so that started my journey to learn more! #UDLchat
Alexis here from Boston! Confetti has settled and we're back to business... I fell in love with #UDL when I learned that the way I approached teaching & learning had a name! #UDLchat
A1: Choice. The curriculum design (goals, methods, materials, assessment). Flexibility. Access. Variability. All the goodness underlying the framework. #udlchat
I’m a junior secondary education major at ku, and we’re recently learning about UDL. I was wondering if anyone could answer how the guidelines are related to the udl framework?? #udlchat
Hi! Robin from Pa. Became interested or I should say "excited" when I first heard about UDL through CAST and a PT3 grant...saw endless possibilities for children with disabilities regarding inclusion #udlchat
Kate from Indiana. My current district introduced me to it about 10 years ago. I had no clue what it was and that drove me nuts....so that started my journey to learn more! #UDLchat
A1: what is my goal for this lesson, and why is it important? what will my students that struggle the most need in order to access this content? what will my more gifted students need in order to be challenged? How can every student achieve their full potential? #UDLchat
A1: hopefully, wondering, thinking, and talking about his/ her future students and their predictable variability...keyword there being students! #UDLchat

A1: How can I make this relevant to Ss? How will I provide Ss with multiple on-ramps to the content? In what ways (plural) can Ss show me what they've learned? #udlchat
A1: When design, T's are thinking: What choices can I give my students so they can utilize the tools and processes that fit them as we unravel the purposeful goal?
#udlchat
#udlchat A1: What is my goal... how may my goal be different than the Ls goals? How can I clarify & help to map a pathway with different routes/ paths to reach it

I am not an educator, but rather an admirer of UDL through my wife's work. I'm explaining it all the time with enthusiasm to people who ask what @Jen_Pusateri does for a living #udlchat
A1: what barriers can I remove to make this lesson more accessible to ALL Ss? Am I offering true options for my Ss? Am I empowering my Ss to take charge in becoming an expert learner? #UDLchat
An excellent point! Don't panic! Start with your biggest problem of practice or plan for one student who is struggling---then make accommodations for that one student available to the whole class. #udlchat

Q2 Ts might be asking students how they might like to show what they know. Ss are sharing the various ways they prefer to demonstrate knowledge. #udlchat
A2: We've got this challenge that needs to be explored. What are different ways we can tackle it? What are the steps we need to take to explore this task? What will we need to do that? How will we know when we've gotten there? #udlchat
LOL! I can't wait until you start busting out some multiple means of representation in your sermons! I'm thinking video clip, turn & talk, and a graphic organizer... #udlchat#UDLhubby
A2: We've got this challenge that needs to be explored. What are different ways we can tackle it? What are the steps we need to take to explore this task? What will we need to do that? How will we know when we've gotten there? #udlchat
I like this way of thinking and I will keep this in mind when going forward in teaching! I love the built-in differentiation that UDL provides! #udlchat
A2: Students: “How close am I to achieving this goal? What are my next steps in improving on this skill?” Educators: “Are my students safe? Have I erected any barriers, either through lesson/environment design or implicit bias?” #UDLchat
A1: What barriers do I need to remove for all my students to access the content at an equitable level. Not adjusting for a few but making the learning accessible for all. #UDLchat
A2: there’s a pretty good chance as Ss are walking in to my room on any given day I will hear, “we’re doing something weird again.” Then they do whatever it is with curiosity (on a good day) or we all learn from mistakes and reflection. #UDLchat
Q3: We are taking pictures of a learning environment and learning activities that have been designed using the UDL framework. What might our picture album contain? #UDLchat
A3 of 1 Table groups would have supplies available (pens, highlighters, post-its, scissors, tape, kleenext...), a lot of labels w/words and pictures, agenda with words/pics, GOAL posted... #udlchat
A2: I'm realizing this looks like teachers deeply knowing their students, providing options for all students but not forcing options that don't optimize an individual's learning, lots of specific feedback, and a sense of collaboration from all to reach a goal. #UDLchat
A2. Students picking strategies and methods to reach the learning targets. Teacher provides access to learning and is giving feedback on content as well as the executive function. #UDLchat
A3 continued...options to engage in content (tech, paper, book, etc.), options to engage in content, scaffolds/options to engage in skills. Ss engaged in how they prefer to engage. A smooth running engine with the hum of learning. #udlchat
A3: Students don’t all look like they’re doing the exact same thing, though each is working toward the same goal. Diversity in needs, ability, culture, and learning styles are celebrated. Classes are integrated along racial, SES, and ability lines. #UDLchat
A2. Students picking strategies and methods to reach the learning targets. Teacher provides access to learning and is giving feedback on content as well as the executive function. #UDLchat
A3: #UDL photo album would include Ss holding the keys to drive! Choosing coping skills and exercising them, Ss are choosing tools, interests, and demonstrations. Photograph would capture #Empowerment. Students owning THEIR learning process to be ready for ANYTHING!
#udlchat
A3: Options. Focused students. Expressions of pride. #udlchat
Shameless announcement of the newest UDL in 15 Minutes podcast WITH the image montage. You can actually see what Q3 is asking for. https://t.co/5UzAjYQPKb
#EF#UDLChat Bringing it all together! Ls monitor their own progress and provide & accept feedback (Ls & Ts)... share with others and welcome feedback from all constituencies! "Can you think of anything else that would be helpful to add/change to enhance this?"
Good night from Chile 🇨🇱 sorry I’m late #udlchat I love UDL since @Ronbrogers invited me to participate in a book study "design and delivery" and I met @LouiLordNelson since then my trip has not stopped
A3: We might see a classroom that doesn't look like a traditional classroom. It may be hard to find the teacher in the pic because s/he isn't standing at the front. You will also see Ss who are engaged and they may all be doing different things! #udlchat
I love the idea of students being empowered to choose coping skills. I’ve seen this more and more now that I’ve started incorporating SEL in classes, and my heart always swells when I see Ss using breathing techniques we learned in class to calm down and self-regulate. #UDLchat
A3: no photo would be the same for any of us. But we would see common themes: clear and flexible goals with options for Ss to be successful in their best way. #UDLchat
A3: Peer support - Strategies such as Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) - Self- monitoring - Any opportunities to promote and develop self-determination / self -advocacy #UDLchat
A3: Flexible seating, Prompting options for #reflection, #mindfulness, brain breaks, ways for accessing & expressing new learning, engaged and collaborative learning that is scaffolded/ supported by Ts and Ls #udlchat
Right?! My Ss used to like it when I shared my own coping skills with them. They like to see that their T is human and has to use strategies too! #MindBlown#udlchat
A4: Q's I ask to help others in their journey of #UDL, "What CAN the Ss DO?" "What is the goal?" "What are the different ways Ss can choose to demonstrate?" "Does your lesson have multiple resources?" #udlchat
#udlchat - with multiple ways to represent what you want kids to 'reflect' upon. Those scaffolds are so important. For example, explicit questions, colour coding reflection of who I went with an activity (green=needed help, yellow = independent)
A4: What are supports and "Ah-ha" moments that have best supported your own learning? What approach has a L or other T taught you that made you think differently about Learning? How will that influence your next steps? #udlchat
A4: I often asked my student teacher, why are you having Ss do this? Is there a different way we could reach this goal where Ss aren’t all doing the exact same work? #UDLchat
Good night from Chile 🇨🇱 sorry I’m late #udlchat I love UDL since @Ronbrogers invited me to participate in a book study "design and delivery" and I met @LouiLordNelson since then my trip has not stopped
A4: it might feel like it takes longer to plan or prepare a lesson when it’s being designed for all learners, but how much time can we save if we only have to teach something once because of how many barriers we removed the first time? #UDLchat
A4: Ask #UDLlearners what their own barriers are to learning about UDL, then blow their mind by showing them how the UDL framework can help remove their barriers! #udlchat
