"Welcome to EdTechAfterDark! Our community was born out of discussions for a rich EdChat type gathering for those of us who are thinking about the digital edu-landscape long after the sun has gone down. For us night owls, when the clock strikes 10PM EST, you’ll find us on Twitter over at #edtechafterdark. All are welcome! Our discussions range from our philosophies about EdTech, digital best practices, and simply sharing our stories." --www.edtechafterdark.com
Welcome to #edtechafterdark! I’m Dan, tech coach from FL, and I’ll be leading tonight’s chat on what teachers really do during summer! Introduce yourself, loc, role in edu, and your fav summer activity!
#edtechafterdark Pam, Inst. Coach in Charleston, SC. Stopping in for a minute. I plan for next year, catch up on reading (at the pool), craft, turn my alarm clock off and hope that people are still doing Twitter chats when I don't have to worry about the time.

Hola! Liz here, this summer my focus will be to read, read, read!!! I have professional books on my list but more YA and picture books arriving all summer! I get to unwrap knowledge all summer long! #EdTechAfterDark
A2: Not off during summer but do get some refueling done by reading, working on video projects, & for the second year in a row going to #ISTE#edtechafterdark
#Edtechafterthedark I am most proud of the teachers I was able to connect with as their community of reflective educators leader. I watched teachers, grow, create, innovate and put the relationships with their students first.

A2: Summer recharging involves visiting with family and friends. Need that time to decompress from the hectic year. But usually there's 1-2 PD related books that I have on my wait list I finally get to and can't ready to try it #edtechafterdark
A2: I like to catch up on reading, draw, and spend time with the fam! Traveling and getting out of my comfort zone also helps to recharge the batteries. #edtechafterdark
A3) The success stories! Knowing that you made an impact on a student’s education and embracing that feeling to grow for the next student that you will impact! #EdTechAfterDark
A3: It's that natural reflective, inquisitive nature I have. If there is something I want to try that would benefits my students or fellow teachers, I am seeking more about it. I can't do the same thing year in year out. Got to mix it up from time to time. #edtechafterdark

A3: Just like I wouldn't want my doctor to stop practicing medicine, it behooves me to keep learning new ways to integrate tech into the classroom! #edtechafterdark

A4: being able to have a voice in the decision making; being able to collaborate more with others (not being isolated in our rooms); feeling valued for our knowledge, expertise, skill set; being able to have more of a say in PD based on our needs, etc. #edtechafterdark
A4). Role models!!! Instructional Leaders that model these expectations!!! Just like our students need to see us in action we need to see our ILS this in it as well. Colleagues can be positive role models as well. My top influence has been #EdTechAfterDark

Some #ClassDojo employees finally began reaching out to me for assistance with Business, #Ethics and 👹#Spiritual matters. (Demonic possession) 😬🍎

Yes. I dislike curriculum maps - trying to map out when kids will learn something is like trying to predict where rain will drop. We need to teach where the kids need to go, not where the textbook says to go next. #edtechafterdark
Just like I wouldn’t want writers 📺📽📚 to stop practicing the art of writing, it behooves me to keep learning new ways to integrate writing into the ClassRM.

A5. PD works well when linked to larger school goals, can be differentiated to meet needs, & employs collaborative techniques to engage participants #edtechafterdark
A5: We need to be more vocal about what our needs are to the higher-ups. We're in the trenches everyday, and we need to be advocates for our kids and us. Also I've begun leading more PD, which I have found helps, too. #edtechafterdark
😬🍎iConsult. I actually really liked curriculum maps - and God made rain ☔️ stop for me twice this past week — so I could get home + focus on business. #EdTechAfterDark
A5) We differentiate for students we should differentiate for teachers in regards to PD as well! There should be opportunities to diversify PD in and out of school!!!#EdTechAfterDark
I have similar issues. I’ve been in Education 10+ years - and I want to be the one doing PD + was 🤓🙂iHad PD that was differentiated for me. #EdTechAfterDark
A6). For me, I wish they knew that our minds NEVER stop working. We are constantly thinking 🤔 about how we can implement, improve, or attempt something We READ to grow #allyearlong#EdTechAfterDark
A6: only ONE thing? That really only a couple weeks is "down" time then the rest is spent revamping material, researching, going to conferences, taking courses, setting up my room, etc. #edtechafterdark
A6 Relaxation and learning are important for T's to do in the summer. Ask non teachers if they would want a stressed out, non prepared teacher for their own kid. #edtechafterdark
A6) Also, I think if they were to ask our families this question they’d be in for a big surprise as to what living with educators indicates! It’s 24-7 at times. I wouldn’t have it any other way. I miss my long nights when I had a classroom!
