@sainsburys@Tesco@asda@LidlUK@AldiUK what do you say? Fancy joining in this initiative? These drinks are causing no end of problems in schools with students overloaded on caffeine and unable to concentrate and work. #ukedchat
#UKEdChat A3: To review and develop entire processes and practice by moving year groups/Key Stage. Comfort zone and familiarity has the potential to ceiling creativity.
A1: Animated! I'm back into class teaching (almost) full-time again and it has felt full on - but it's been a blast! Let's just say I'm very busy but having fun. Is there a proper word for that? #UKEdChat
#ukedchat A3 have people drop in unannounced. Do anon student voices. Record yourself - video or voice. Have coaching triads. Ask independent feedback.
Q3. Weāve developed a completely new system of classroom observation - includes video recording. The idea is that the teacher owns and watches the recording - not SLT. Observation is done with teachers, it is not done to them. #UKEdChat
#UKEdChat Q3 Learning walks are a great way to do that as you can walk into others classes and see what they do. Talking to colleagues, peer observations and feedback.

That's very cool. We used a system (can't remember the name but the device looked like a giant white coffee maker!) that let you film yourself, edit and then share parts with other teachers for feedback. Was pretty valuable. #ukedchat
A2: We had a very positive Ofsted inspection before Christmas after a year of 'expecting the call'. They were happy with what my colleagues and I had done to support our disadvantaged pupils. I took on the role of Pupil Premium Manager last September so was reassured! #UKEdChat
Videos are watched by the teacher before āfeedbackā from the observer. That way it becomes more of a discussion about something both people have āobserved.ā It becomes much more developmental. And no, videos are not kept or archived! #UKEdChat
#UkEdChat A4 By being open to visiting other schools, actively engaging with research, inviting fresh objective & critical eyes to visit, ask govs to visit oth schs & feedback?
Q4. Weāve made it part of CPD. Not always courses - just make a visit to another school. Sometimes with an agenda, sometimes without. It can open eyes, reaffirm beliefs or change thinking. And it gives rise to great networking / collaboration opps. #UKEdChat
A cluster INSET or twilight could be helpful. Sharing good practice not just across one school, but many. Rotating the hosting school as well #ukedchat
A3: I'm a big fan of filming my lessons with a simple iPad/tripod setup and watching them back. It's hard to watch at first(!) but very helpful for identifying your strengths and areas for development without the pressure of an observer. #UKEdChat

Weāve developed our own app to help us (now need to think about GDPR though) - if you remember the name of your system, Iād be interested to know. #UKEdChat
#UKEdChat A4: Visit other schools, informal discussion with colleagues from other departments & schools. Welcome parental voice, pupil viewpoint (student council), staff to write personal end of term report/ 'three stars & a wish' themselves etc (Heads, teachers, support staff)š
#UKEdChat Q5
How can we discover the needs of our pupils and hone our teaching and learning environments accordingly?
Use the hashtag & A5...

A4: Cluster meetings have been a new and welcome addition to our staff meeting line up. We did some subject-specific ones and recently amongst colleagues in the same year group/key stage. #UKEdChat
Inspired(!) after working with 40 colleagues at The Helix Education Centre, a PRU in #Harrow today.
Difficult challenges and last-chance saloon for some kids; these teachers are superheroes! Good teaching ideasš”can work anywhere. #ukedchat
Ensure you have a full knowledge/understanding of the full range of pupil/home languages and proficiencies, including contexts, uses and (if appropriate) literacies. @GoldsmithsUoL has a good template for capture @EquitableEd@SupplementaryEd@EAL_naldic#UKEdChat Q5
A2: successes - managed to finally make some progress with a difficult class, good ofsted comments. Challenges - managing everything simultaneously. #UKEdChat
A6 If your being observed on a particular thing that you've chosen and want to work on, then just get feedback on that one thing rather than everything #ukedchat
A3: Observe other teachers, ask others to observe them informally and discuss. Look online twitter etc...for ideas of what other teachers are doing. #UKEdChat
A4: Ask others...pair up with another school, look at each others objectively identifying strengths/possible changes. Always hard to be objective when you're in. #UKEdChat

A5: Time, consistency and building relationships. We need to know our pupils, through conversations, observations, knowledge of their situation and needs. Takes time, especially with 30chn. #UKEdChat

A6: Honestly I've found my TA and pupils in my class to be best. As they see me teaching everyday and have the best understanding of me as a teacher. It's all helpful but I've found that to be most valuable. #UKEdChat

Not policy, just something I wanted to try, and have found helpful. Because it's only me watching the videos back and they're not being shared, we haven't had to involve parents. Discovered that I ramble on a lot so worked on that last term!

#UKEdChat A7 a free timetable for a short period of time allowing teachers to try out and imement new ideas. Also golden lessons. Then share what worked and what didnāt. Keep what worked to improve lessons.

How can we support colleagues to escape their teaching bubble of āThatās what Iāve always doneā?
Use the hashtag & A8...

A7. Team spirit, togetherness and encouraging each other. If the vision is truly bought into and everyone shares in an agreed and established philosophy, the āself-beliefā of the organisation becomes a key driver and can be very powerful. #UKEdChat
A7: SMT seem to be the best support for CPD etc...for other challenges/goals I've found I've supported and developed myself without support from the school. However maybe that's just who I am? #UKEdChat

Each other! Staff are always on or over their allocated hours and workloads are forever increasing. Often the most open, honest and productive conversations are with those around you on a daily basis. #ukedchat

A5: Pupil surveys. I use Google Forms to collect feedback from pupils. At the end of term, for example, I got them to feedback on what they like/dislike about lessons, classroom environment, homework, etc. and used it to improve. Anonymity helped ensure honest answers! #UKEdChat

A8: Be respectful and understanding first and foremost, they're professionals. Encourage them to observe others/partner up with another teacher...try one thing new, evaluate it discuss, then go on from there. #UKEdChat

A6: The pupils and their outcomes in lessons. I can usually tell a good lesson from a bad one from the number of children who carry on working after I've said it's time to pack up for playtime! #UkEdChat
