#FLedchat is a virtual meeting place using Twitter. Educators across the state of Florida come together on Wednesdays at 8pm EST to discuss the topics of the week.
A1: I use a few things, one being the glorious @FreshGrade as a communicative tool for announcements, assessments and the window into the classroom. Also @RemindHQ is a wonderful thing. Both are apps and websites. very user-friendly, accessible and informative #FLEdChat
A1: I loved having a classroom website. I posted newsletters, classroom pictures and student work, and other useful information. I tried to have a few forms of communication though. #FLedChat
A1b: I love that parents can choose which ways they want notifications and how often. If they're more email people, they can set that over Text Messages. @CanvasLMS#FLedChat
I cheated a little this year. Found a cute @Apple Pages template for my newsletter to send out to teachers. I usually create my own from scratch, but no time for that. #FLedChat
A2: My answer here happens to be the same as A1. Fresh Grade allows for three-way conversation among parents, students and myself. They feel empowered. There is also the messaging aspect of @classcraftgame that students use too! #FLEdChat
A2: I loved having dialogue journals with my students. Now it would be so much easier with tons of great digital tools that would work for this. #FLedChat
A2: I don't know how creative my methods are. I'm creating posters to remind students of our procedures. Trying to get them used to all the ways I can communicate. (Canvas notifications, G-Suite Notifications, email, etc.) #FLedChat
A2. I donβt know if this is creative, but just talking to them. I am getting to know a whole new set of kids, so talking to them seems to be the way to go for now. #fledchat
A2 Board messages, last year we used @MicrosoftTeams it was okay, but some features wasn't accessible on all devices- a huge barrier for us so we're going back to @edmodo this year

A3: I think I do overcommunicate but I like to come from various angles in order to get everyone in at least one way. :) #fledchat Is there such a thing as too much communication? haha.
A3: I don't think I'm over communicating. But by the end of the school year, that may very well be the case. More communication is better than less. #FLedChat
A3: In the classroom, I definitely overcommunicated. It helps when you teach elementary, but I think sometimes overwhelmed the parents...lol. #FLedChat
A3 I feel that I probably over communicate which is just right for me. I never want families to feel they are disconnected from the classroom/school. Our admin is also on top of communication #Fledchat

Honestly, sometimes I feel like I have too much coming in to process it all. I've had to limit my time in certain social media apps just so I can process the change of campuses. I hope I'll get back to my "normal" rhythm soon. #FLedChat
A4 School- email & text sometimes Facebook. Global twitter & I'm getting into instagram. Voxer is great too although I havent been on in a while. #Fledchat
4B: I think the biggest difference I notice is how excited I get to see my global PLN because F2F visits don't happen too often. With work colleagues that only happens after summer break. I appreciate both equally though :). #FLedChat
A4b: Yes! I feel that some of my f2f relationships are great bc we are growing, learning together. Other times my Global PLN is better bc bigger picture/purpose emerges-perspective from others outside of your zone make a huge difference #Fledchat
A5: Find out what other teachers in your school are using. Start there. Parents will be more accustomed to that communication method. Also, don't share student names/grades (That's a big issue).
Breathe, it will all be okay.
#FLedChat
A5: I would say to over-communicate, especially at first. Also, involve parents as part of the solution when trying to find ways to best meet the needs of their child. It should be a partnership. #FLedChat
A5: Get contact information (emails) ASAP. Don't wait for the office to provide it. Establish a medium for communication as early as possible. #fledchat
A5: jumping in at the last minute- my advice, have clear boundaries but by open with communication. If you can say it in 5 sentences or less in an email- make a phone call. #fledchat

Feeding the Nugget. Thanks @KristinCHarr for moderating tonight and getting me thinking about ways to more effectively communicate with students and their families. π€π€π€ #fledchat
