A1: At the MS level I would debrief what each day was with regards to FITT. It helped Ss see the use in everyday class. Elementary is where I struggle. #espechat
A1 I chunk it up so when we are doing a fitness related activity whether it be a tabata or a core progression etc I speak to how it applies to the FIIT principle with that particular activity #espechat
A2 I use to do activities such as the sugar and fat tag from @Sportime_SPARK in K-6 and would love to implement a choose your plate relay where ss have “x” time to get food and try to build the most balanced meal possible #espechat
A2 quiz quiz trade: students each get a card that has a color and fruit/vegetable like “green vegetable” or “red fruit”. They quiz a partner and then trade their cards. #espechat
A3 this chat is making me realize I need to incorporate more health topics into my lessons! Does my “how to use the drinking fountain” lesson count? #espechat
A3: At MS I would challenge Ss to drink 8 glasses a day and then document how they felt. It was amazing how convincing first hand experience can be. #espechat
A3 Well this year unfortunately it was a real life- hydration lesson where the ss collapsed due to dehydration. However, I do have a water tracker worksheet that allows them to keep track of their water intake #espechat
A1 For our county wide essential curriculum we matched up S3 Nutrition & Hydration with locomotor skills which includes cross country, aerobics, orienteering. #espechat
A3: I have used a water log before, but with mixed results. I’ve placed poster stations around the gym for Ss to do a walk and talk about the poster. One of the stations was water break. #espechat
A3 For our county wide essential curriculum we matched up S3 Nutrition & Hydration with locomotor skills which includes cross country, aerobics, orienteering. #espechat
A4 Run stations and pull students over a few at a time for push-up and curl up. My Ss this year need some more work with independent station work though. #espechat
I tried to do Ss scoring each other last year and if I were there again I would continue. We recorded with seesaw. With new Ss I don’t think it would work. #espechat
Each grade has priority standards per MP. So we focus on 3 physical skills and then 1 standard from each SHAPE 2-5. Try to align things so it was an ongoing convo throughout MP. #espechat PM me and I can talk more details and share docs.
A4 We do what are called Mat Monday’s (our early release day every week) and we have ss go through core and upper body exercises + flexibility as 4 sections of #physed together #espechat
How long did it take you to train Ss to score accurately? I tried once and had to re-do all of them. But I love the idea! Would love to find a way to make it work. #espechat
A4: I dedicate one class per week to fitness for my classes ~30 minutes. Focus changes every month, for example at the beginning of the school year cardio endurance needs the most attention, so pre test beginning and post test at the end of the month. #espechat
We do a good amount of practice with PU and CU form. Most activities are done in relationship to fitness stations and one small testing group at a time. #espechat
A5. We use the data to develop a practice plan for students at how to maintain their fitness levels or improve in areas that did not make the HFZ. Physical Best is great for fitness logs. #espechat.
they were moderately accurate. give students a rubric of what to look for. I'm wondering if it would be possible for students to train each other. some were VERY good at scoring, others, not so much #espechat
A3. I start with K for hydration. We talk about the value of water. We talk about the value for plants and out body. in 3rd we talk about what water does in our body. In 4th we create a video. #espechat
A6 Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and what I like to call Timely. All descriptors of what a goal should look like to achieve success! #espechat
A3 I start the year with a letter to families that addresses bringing H2O bottles to class. I give out positive tickets for all those you bring them in the beginning, I give breaks for water. then we talk about how it effects us. #espechat
A7: Have them write a goal using graphic organizer then work with partner to tweak the goal, them go to groups to get input and make sure it meets all requirements. I use rainy days for things like this. #espechat
A7 Through our PE Handbook, we are constantly having them update it with their new records/graphs and their next goal reminding them it should be achievable within 1-2 weeks (so for example 2-3 seconds off their best run time) #espechat
A8 We touch upon it as most ss ask why we need to know their height and weight. Ss also become familiar with what is the range they should be in at their age #espechat
