Welcome to #saskedchat. Thank you for joining us this evening! Please take a moment to introduce yourself and tell us what about your favourite Christmas Holiday movie!
Good evening #saskedchat. My favourite Christmas movie is the Wizard of Oz. One of the good memories of Christmas is that we watched every Christmas morning after opening gifts. Will have to watch in honour of my mom who passed away Dec 2
A1. I just try to emphasize that I am looking for growth over a grade. Effort over talent alone. I enjoy having fun with the students and getting in the classrooms as much as possible. We need to model our ability to learn from each other. #saskedchat
At Christmas time I buy books or gift cards for books. Throughout the year, I try to engage the young people in my life in conversations about things that are important to them and share resources with them. #saskedchat
Ian - principaling on the pacific and my goto Christmas movies are Scrooged, A Christmas Story & Christmas Vacation - but my wife is loving all the Hallmarks...! #saskedchat
So true - as an admin it's so important to be in the classrooms especially if there is a chance to be able to do some teaching or supporting while you are there! #saskedchat
A1 also as a very mature aged university student, I model for my kids still at home the importance of doing well and do homework in a timely manner #saskedchat
We are preparing for the upcoming year here at #saskedchat and are looking for your input for ideas for chats. Please take a moment to add your ideas to the form! (Take some time during the holidays to add a few more!) https://t.co/llmmD3ZgNI
A2. If you can build a strong culture and climate in your classroom, do it. Relationships matter most. It’s a must for student engagement and continuous learning which is why we do what we do. https://t.co/dE7EWSxWQh#saskedchat
A1 - for me it’s being able to share with people in so many places the idea that learning isn’t limited to a classroom, that #saskedchat & other ed chats are great places to learn and share! #COLchat
So true! Relationships are so important in learning and especially because so much of what we do as educators is about building trust and having empathy and compassion. #saskedchat
A1: Students follow through example. Celebrations in growth and learning in myself Shared with them - contagious. Sharing learning can be as simple as a book recommend, trying a new skill with others or high giving something I can finally do. #saskedchat
A2: I love sharing Math station finds! Teaching grade 8 means they have decided if they are good at Math or not. Have to make it fun to open their minds to the possibility they were wrong - they do actually rock at Math! #saskedchat
A2 - If I was going to give one resource to teachers it would be something from @toddhenry - Accidental Creative, Die Empty, or Louder Than Words - the whole creative side of what people do is so important! #saskedchat
A3 I still like how twitter chats can connect educators, but I also like those face to face opportunities - ignites, coffeechats, - whatever gets conversations going! #saskedchat
Chad from The Burn...A2:I still like Wong's book for beginning teachers - so many great things needed for rookie & reminders for exp. Ts; also @rickwormeli2 has great books on assess that made me see a better way to evaluate easier. #saskedchat
A3: When I find something I feel I need to share, I email links to other staff members. I also try to get my grade 7/8s into each classroom once a year to work with younger students to build a community feel. Builds teamwork and trust with staff. #saskedchat
A3. Get into other teacher’s classrooms as much as possible. The best PD is in your own buildings. Learn from each other by watching and not just talking. Don’t judge each other, help each other. #saskedchat
A2. Sharing survey data as a resource for developing relationships with students and classroom culture ... like OurSchoolSurvey ... can help engage Ss in conversations that matter. #saskedchat
A3 as a student teacher soon to be new teacher. I would just ask, if another teacher would share something I saw that was interesting. I would tell them I thought what I saw looked very interesting and would like to know more. #saskedchat
Ahhh,,,the fine art of sucking up...important skill to help build resources. Honey over vinegar - Good plan! #saskedchat NO COMMENTS @kellywchris needed
I agree - but we don't get the coffee chats or ignites here - not sure why! Maybe it's something that we need to try out! Usually those face-to-face happen at conferences! #saskedchat
That's so important - to draw people into the conversation and allow them to share their ideas and experience! Teachers have a great deal of personal professional knowledge that isn't tapped into as much as it should be! #saskedchat
A4. Pick your battles and laugh as much as possible with your kids. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Don’t beat yourself up over trying to be perfect. Be human. #saskedchat
We are preparing for the upcoming year here at #saskedchat and are looking for your input for ideas for chats. Please take a moment to add your ideas to the form! (Take some time during the holidays to add a few more!) https://t.co/llmmD3ZgNI
A4 rest is rust - when you feel worn down, it might be a good time for some bonus movement...especially if the walk can be in or near nature... helps the brain and mindfulness #saskedchat
A5 reduce unneeded pressures (esp tests) when there are so many stressors happening at school and home (and viva media sources). Model mindfulness! #saskedchat
Very true - that's why I suggest that we dispense with the conference keynotes and just have impromptu discussions set up at tables and in the halls - that's where I've had some of the best convos! #saskedchat
A5. Know that every one of them has a story, a dream, a passion, and a need for your support as a learner. This time of year comes with significant stress and anxiety. Be kind and compassionate. They need you. #saskedchat
A5 Have fun BUT maintain some routine... for some Ss the holidays are scary with their instability. Remind them you’ll be here and so will their school when they get back #saskedchat
Ah cleaning - exercise for the mind! I tend to clean when I'm doing a lot of writing or need to think about things - as I put order while cleaning I find it helps me to work through things! #saskedchat
A5. Empathy.... realize that you may have some students who are not looking forward to a break away from school. Realize that these times cause certain behaviors to present themselves. #saskedchat
EXACTLY!! As educators we do have options and need to be able to make decisions that are best for the students which might mess up the "timeline" but sure helps the students out! #saskedchat
So important - this time of year has a lot of unmentioned stress brought on by multiple sources! Routines are important and help us during times like this! #saskedchat
Very true but I do find that many are, unfortunately, selling goods. We've entered the time of the eduvational speaker which, at times, is more like self-help talks than about education. #saskedchat
A6 after Christmas festivities, I spend time quilting and doing absolutely nothing. It took me many many years but last year I spent 4 days in my pajamas doing very little other than feeding children who weren't big enough to do it themselves. Felt so rested.
#saskedchat
A6. Probably going to continue this new tradition of weekly backyard fires and hot dog roasts with IPAs and Sessions... then hit the gym with a son who out lifts me and out plays me at everything these days... family for sure. #saskedchat
For me it will be board games, outdoor games, some just gaming and going to the gym with my kids like @HeculuckDave. With all 8 kids home, there will be lots of laughter, fun and the occasional "let's just go do something else for a while" moments! #saskedchat
To be honest, there are so many right now that are selling books and whatever that I'm losing interest in them. It's getting too much like infomercials! #saskedchat
Pineapple chart helped me as a novice teacher. The fact that a teacher invites another teacher into their classroom for informal observation is inspiring. It shows humility, confidence & willingness to improve. @cultofpedagogy explains it well: https://t.co/x1p2DEVUlE#saskedchat

A7 this time of year I write (well, print....but not type) cards that show what I have noticed from my team so far (kinda modelling some descriptive feedback) I’m always tempted to just give a % & seemingly unconnected comment to report card users.... #saskedchat
A5: Sorry for late response -had Uber Dad duties; I'd like to give Ss the gift of new useful, relevant, current, developmentally appropriate and easy to understand curriculum #saskedchat
A8. A chance to rest and just be with my boys. It has been a rough semester and even tougher Dec looking after my mom until her passing and then looking after her affairs and arrangements. #saskedchat

Thanks for another informative evening #saskedchat. Merry Christmas and wishing you all a restful holiday, after you survive the sugar filled, excited children tomorrow.
