Welcome to today's #LDchat! This is Dan with the Understood team. We're joined today by Understood founding partner @CommonSense Media to discuss supporting classroom learning at home.
#ADHD can make it hard for a child to concentrate and pay attention in school, but it affects social skills, too. Check out these 5 common scenarios and how you can help. #LDchathttps://t.co/mVqagCirrb via @UnderstoodOrg
A1: For middle schoolers, it's important to ask questions about what students are learning at school. Express a genuine interest and curiosity. Try to lay off the homework police routine. Ask for their thoughts about the subject instead of making their learning about you #ldchat
A1 Supporting learning at home drives home the point that education is valuable. Kids look up to their parents, and if parents take an interest in kids' learning, that reinforces the value of what is being taught at school. #ldchat
RT CommonSense "A1: Continuity: Build on what's learned in school by building a bridge from what they're learning to other parts of their lives.

RT CommonSense "A1: Context: Once connections are made, help kids build a place where they can keep learning that's bigger than the classroom.

A2: New school years always involve transitions- disruptions to routines, new rules to learn, new expectations to follow. Technology can help preview their schedule each morning (thanks, google calander!) and help them to visualize a successful day. #ldchat
A3: Workbooks and drills aren't motivating, so it's great that there are so many fun apps and sites to use. Reading and math are often big sticking points for kids, so we have lists that offer up some of the more engaging titles.

A3: We also have lists of books for reluctant readers, offbeat apps for kids who like to think outside the box, websites and app that offer homework help and resources, and our comprehensive guide of resources for kids with learning and attention issues. #LDchat

#Math games, like video games and board games, give kids a fun way to practice math skills, like counting and numerical strategy. #LDchathttps://t.co/83CWmApLRr
A4: There are some really instructive apps and sites that walk a kid through social cues and situations. FlummoxVision and Social Detective are two like this.
