A1 #espechat The students enter skipping, we then alternate walking and jogging, and then complete an instant fitness activity (like tag or follow the leader)! 10 minutes of movement before they ever sit down!
A1: I love using AMRAP's with my kiddos. Keeps everyone moving and engaged at their own level. I also love doing dance videos, tabata, 4 corners #espechat
A1. Making dance a priority this year in K-2. Just started making my own dances and started a YouTube playlist for it. Perfect for simple and easy warm ups for the little ones! https://t.co/wHsOZal3Oc#espechat
Kyle from morden Manitoba Canada checking in. Going to be in and out here tonight but I'll be sure to check in for the great ideas and info you guys share! #ESPECHat
I have started using my projector for some GoNoodle. My kiddos only have 45min and we work in stations a lot. I have 6 stations and I need them to get to as many as possible #ESPECHat
A1- i created a fitness alphabet were students do the exercises for the letters of their name. Sometimes I will write a theme word on the board for us to do as a group. Ss love it! #ESPECHat
#espechat just finishing up create a warm up presentation that Ss come up with. Get one basketball & groups of 2 Ss must create a flexibility, upper body, lower body and core strength exercise & present to class. Love the creativity
My version is...I have taped battleships under cones scattered around the gym on squad seats that are in a grid. Squad numbers and letter rows. Ss find them and plot them on GDoc. This is a warm up I do with my GPS unit. #espechat
A2) Our ss really enjoy Battleship. We also did an activity this year where they threw gator skin balls at ghosts called Team Ghost Hunt. I made underhand toss targets with many different characters/themes. I will try to find a pic! #espechat
A2-Dice bonk(thank you Twitter-verse), @CoachPirillo football patterns adapted to incorporate math or literacy, pe corn hole #ESPEchat and so much more
A2 I love the group juggle for throwing and catching. If we’re talking about throwing for distance/accuracy, then hula hut throw down is a student favorite as well #ESPEchat
Bear walk, peddle a bike with your hands, jumping jacks/jills, burpes, touch the nearest door, side shuffle, crab walk. Stuff like that, the Ss enjoy each doing different exercises. Each exercise has a number of repetitions as well #espechat
A3 A simple sharks and minnow tag with flag belts to teach proper tackling technique for football. Ss really grasped open vs closed spaces this year. #espechat
A3) Use poly spot as steering wheel. K/1 have to drive car safely without bumping/crashing. Roll spot up to turn into telescope to look for big open spaces to move into when driving again #ESPEchat
A3) obstical courses are my go to for spacial awareness. Throwing n movement activities w/ blindfolded S being directed by partner are also great! #espechat
A3 The first thing that comes to mind for me and spatial awareness are tag games. Also, scooter board activities help for this...everyone knows how much it hurts to pinch a finger under those wheels! #espechat
@PhysEdApps Ss drive their "Car" in a variety of ways, levels SAFELY. I let them draw towns with different pathways, name them, etc. #embeddedassessment#espechat
A2 duck hunters was a favorite OHT act with my Ss.
#espechat taped ducks onto buckets. Set buckets on mat across middle of gym. 2teams, knock over and bring back to team.
#espechat A3 throw as much equipment on floor, cones poly spots noodles bean bags etc. Ss must navigate first at a walk then add loco motor challenges thru maze w/o contacting equip or other Ss
A4) Didn't do much with paddles/long implements last year. Will this year. But here are some hand striking station ideas from my 2nd Graders last year: https://t.co/hhsal8cTOR#ESPEchat
A1 I like to do stretching, high knees, running, pushups for warm-ups. I know it seems a little harsh but it get the students prepared for P.E. class lol #espechat
A4 we are making our own “Air” hockey games using strikers and pucks on the floor with folding mats that I cut apart for the boundaries! Gonna try his tomorrow🙏🏻 #espechat
A4: I am also a big fan of my paddles unit! I love seeing the growth of students that start with difficulty in striking in general and then are able to play modified games of pickleball #espechat
A4 we play a game with the little ones called Bat Around. Keeps the batters free and clear of the fielders and everyone gets 3 chances to bat before fielding. #espechat
A4) short; handball, tennis, badminton. Long; field hockey, golf, softball, soft cross. Have S use all of them with hoops at different distances to aim for. Debrief the differences n how was adjust n use each. Head to DT and get the kids to use a hammer.. #espechat
A5) GoNoodle Focus/Breathing/Body Control videos. Have been doing them with K-2 following warm up to get them ready for next piece of class. Has been working well! #espechat
A5-rarely do cool downs due to lack of time. Will conference with them at end to review the objective and ask them a @plickers question often related to either the skill or a health focus #ESPEchat
A5) #espechat I have come to the realization that assessment can be a motivator in #physed classes! Here is an article I wrote on the topic! https://t.co/Gf4DACvG8c
A5. In the last 3-4 minutes of class we take a formative GForm assess with a quizzable q, literacy term, collect pedometer data, & self reflect on understanding & effort, then individual stretching on own before closing thought. #espechat
A5 High 5 five people and give your partner a compliment, tell a teammate what you learned, etc. #espechat
Need to get consistent with plickers #iadmit
A5: Ss in 4th-6th just went 1:1 with iPads so I am looking into using #seesaw with my classes to post for assessment that way I can help during class and look later for assessment. Also want to use google forms, kahoot, etc #espechat
@CoachHatTH here is a sample rubric I created on google forms. Standards in a drop down menu and I typically create a “multiple choice grid” with Ss names and 4, 3, 2, 1 #espechat
A5: I usually just have a quick conversation at the door at the end of class about the key parta of the lesson. If the T comes to pick them up sometimes I’ll have Ss tell the T what they learned. #espechat
I suggest starting with the actual cards first. Then add #plagnets later in the year or maybe next year for older Ss. I use the actual Plicker cards with 3/4/5 but #plagnets only with 4/5 #espechat
A5: Mindfulness...soft music to calm elem students...haven't started w /Middle school but plan to use it. Use Peer assessments with Middle. Ss give each other feedback based on a rubric #espechat
A6: I offer a fitness challenge every month for all of my Ss to do. I have shared/published many with #pecentral . I have found great success with helping Ss WANT to be active for a small incentive at the end of the month #espechat
A6) My class created a physical activity challenge that has gone GLOBAL. My students LOVE being physical activity ambassadors https://t.co/x3kfeSqyaC#espechat
A6) Beginning of 4th Grade Fitness Unit. Ss learn about how diff. exercises make them feel internally and how those feelings correlate to working on diff. areas of fitness. https://t.co/waD6hXYyxz#espechat
A6- practicing what I preach so students see it. I play soccer with many parents. I want to start a fitness picture wall, but need ideas in how to get S pictures. #ESPEchat
A5: Social media cards for formative assessment. Been working on creating and finalizing these for a while. Just started using them this week. #espechat@rich_wiles
A7 use class dojo for basic communication with parents. Hosted Bring Your Parents to PE week in September (highly successful!). Also putting on a Tiger Dash 5K this spring as a PE fundraiser #ESPEchat
A7 Family fitness nights. We've down zumba, GPS scavenger hunts, and sport stations. This year I would love to incorporate parachute activities. #espechat
A6) 5th Graders use heart rate monitors to gain better understanding of fitness concepts and how various forms of exercise affect the body in different ways https://t.co/U2yTZ73Nes#espechat
A7: always try to get 1 event covered by local paper or tv station. Also open the weight room at our HS for all students interested after school daily #espechat
A6 I encourage lots of PLAY as the best way for mine to work on Fitness. I only teach K-2 so I teach them lots of fitness concepts but let them know that strong bodies and hearts play the longest!❤️ #ESPEchat
A6) Hand written letters home to parents to reinforce positive behavior and effort. Parents appreciate the praise to child and students appreciate being noticed. #espechat
#espechat Don't forget that Sunday starts our #PhysEdSummit. Stop by at 8pm Eastern each night to see two sessions. We have a great lineup this year!
Details on our website: https://t.co/UngA4BlPSD
A7 we had a family Ninja warrior night in Sept. and we have another one this Thur. Also corn field mile, glow stick run and invite an adult to PE week. #espechat
