Thank you @micheeaton for a great conversation! Next week, we have a guest moderator joining us, but he's no stranger to the #INeLearn PLN. Tune in for our chat with @jmattmiller of #DitchBook as we talk Creating Memorable Classes w/ Tech!
As always, #INeLearn chat time is a fast and furious hour. Thank you all so much for participating and letting me be a part of your weekly discussions.
Heeeey, #ditchbook!!! Evan Mosier, Technology Integrationist Lead and 7th grade LA from Davenport, IA. I was rooting for my beloved @ChicagoBears before the heartbreak of Sunday evening took place. So now, as long as it isn't @rlfreedm's Pats AGAIN, I'm good with whoever! :-)
Greetings, #DitchBook crew! Thanks for guiding us tonight, @craigklement ! Born and raised a @dallascowboys fan, so GO COWBOYS! (Born in Dallas, so that's legit!)
Can't wait for #ditchbook chat tonight! Elizabeth McCartney, 2nd grade and tech model teacher from Davenport, IA! I am rooting for the half time show???
Hi #ditchbook ! Happy New Year! I'm Jen, a MS Science & Teen Leader Teacher and #edtech Instructional Support Specialist in MO! I don't really follow the NFL, but I would choose anyone but the Patriots ;) #Iloveanunderdog
Evening, #ditchbook. I'm Brian. I tech middle-school students English in Colorado. My football-rooting allegiances are minimal, so they need not interfere with those of tonight's moderator.
Hey #DitchBook friends! Matt here, author/blogger/speaker and 10+ year HS Spanish teacher.
Only one team for me in the NFL playoffs ... my beloved Colts!
A1: Let me count the ways I use Google Forms: In my admin role, I use Google Forms for paperwork that teachers are required to fill out. I also created our classroom walkthrough form with Google Forms. Teachers also submit their lessons plans via a Google Form. #DitchBook
A1. I use it for climate check from Ps. Collect data for Ss reflection for evaluation. Self reflection. Ss can request books for our classroom. Possibilities. #Ditchbook
I use Google Forms with my Ss all the time! My favorite right now is my survey I have open all the time for my Ss to fill out if they need to tell me something, but don't want to tell me in person or in front of the class! #ditchbook
Jessie Laine from IN and I teach HS science. I use forms for virtual "break outs", quizzes, assignments like webquests and surveys for students. I also use forms for lesson plans. #Ditchbook
A1: I use Forms in many forms :) Some assessment but daily I have my Ss check in for lunch count/attendance and to get a pulse of how they're feeling; plus how they are working on/toward their goals #DitchBook
A1: I use them for engaging students through GAMES/RACES! Photo scavenger hunts, Amazing races; you name it! Forms timestamp so you can quickly check student accuracy as well as finish time #ditchbook
A1: We’ve used it for student surveys on the climate and culture of our classrooms and building. We also use them for assessments for our CTT’s for math and reading! #DitchBook
A1 #ditchbook - Google forms is a go to for me as a learning coach - I use it to get feedback on all our PD - just helped a teacher plan a gallery walk using forms today!
A1 #ditchbook
I would use Google Forms for EVERYTHING!!!
Quiz
Exit Ticket
Student Data collection
Set up conference with Ps
Review Lessons
So much more!!!!
A1- I have a gym teacher who has over 650 ss. Today we created a google form for him to collect GIF's exercises. He does not have a GC due to the amount of ss. Once he goes through the GIFs he is going to make QR codes for gym class.

A1: My Eng 2 Ss chart their accuracy % daily from @quizizz onto a Google Forms. Am also creating a hall pass form. If shared with the district, any T or admin can see where Ss are supposed to be or allowed to be. :) #DitchBook
Awesome! Ss are much more likely to communicate with teachers digitally than in front of the class. Tech gives a voice to the quiet students #ditchbook
A1: I use Forms for surveys, warm ups, assessments, and classwork. Mostly everything that used to be a worksheet for me is now a Google Form. I love the instant feedback it gives students! #ditchbook
A1- Use Google Forms with voice to text. Put the form on an iphone or ipad and as you are walking around the room record all the positive things you see ss doing. They will hear the comments :)
#ditchbook
A1b: I also use forms constantly for more personal endeavors, such as soliciting guests for my podcast, The @BeerEDUPod, where @BDicksonNV and I chat education topics over beers (found wherever you listen to podcasts and at https://t.co/v0t8mzjro1, shameless plug) #ditchbook
A1: Multiple choice quizzes. I built our front desk registration with it. We do mock votes with it. I teach spreadsheets & data by first having Ss create a survey. #ditchbook
A1(a): Also, as much as we unfortunately have to have one, our referral is completely digital using Google Forms as well. The data that appears on the Sheet then spits out an email to the teacher using FormMule so communicate the determined punishment for the student. #Ditchbook
It’s great that teachers are utilizing Google Forms in/out of the classroom, but how powerful would it be if students created forms in/out of the classroom. #DitchBook
A5) In the past, #teachervoice has been so suppressed that the T’s didn’t even know what to ask for. Watching it change is awesome. I received an email today from a teacher saying the #ditchbook “conference” was extended, and I nearly melted! #eduar
A1: I use Google Forms for so many things. It's great for quick surveys of the students. We also use it to sign students up for different clubs and interventions. Our counseling office has QR codes around the school linked to a form for kids who need to talk. #ditchbook
My computer applications students already do!!! They are allowed to select a topic, I teach them the ways of Forms, and they use their creativity to create some awesome Forms! It's a pretty awesome assignment! #Ditchbook
It’s great that teachers are utilizing Google Forms in/out of the classroom, but how powerful would it be if students created forms in/out of the classroom. #DitchBook
I've really liked it... it slowed my AM procedure down just a bit but the data and info I get now on how students slept or how they're feeling or what special is going on in their life has been worth the trade #DitchBook
A1- I have used a google form for walk throughs to give my ts feedback on their lesson. This has helped me stay focused when I am observing and provide them with proper feedback.
https://t.co/71UPPl1Os1#ditchbook
A2: When first creating a form, especially for the younger grades, keep it symbol! This allows for practice and they can get the hang of it! Great learning opportunity to talk about what a survey is or how to answer questions on the computer! #ditchbook
A2: Create your response sheet, go to Tools > Notification Rules and turn on email notifications for submissions! You'll never miss one again! #ditchbook
A2 Test it out before assigning to your class! I've found lots of glitches in the moment that I wish I had caught before =( Especially when using them in digital breakouts #ditchbook
A2: Make sure you double-check all of the settings! Nothing like putting out an assessment, only to later find it didn't collect e-mail and there was no place for a name. Doh! #DitchBook
It's great, isn't it?! Or, even copying and pasting the data to a new tab on the Responses sheet just in case you happen to need that data again. #Ditchbook
Yes... the preview is your friend. I have only dabbled with the required answer/breakout usage... but one of my first had some bugs I didn't catch... #DitchBook
A2: If you are making it editable also have each person receive a read receipt to their email so they have the link in an easy to access place. Also helps students who ddnt finish and assignment be able to go back and finish. Can also be a useful tool to review later. #Ditchbook
A2: Using Forms to streamline ANY kind of "paperwork"; like RTI forms, etc! I and LOVING @SteinbrinkLaura 's idea for hall passes! Brilliant!!! #ditchbook
A1 I use forms with my students' #kindnesschallenge. They nominate each other and the act of kindness done in forms, I check it daily and they nominated students put a marble in our kindness jar. They love filling out the form! #ditchbook
The daily Form I use, the data seems to remain in the Sheet (which I assume is by design)... so I just filter results to current day and don't worry about the old entries. #DitchBook
We use Google Forms as an alternative to the triplicate discipline write ups. ALSO, autocrat sends me and the rest of my office staff an email anytime a teacher has submitted a discipline referral immediately so we can respond immediately when necessary. #DitchBook
A2: Pre-filled links & response validation are great tips, but the main tip I'd share is DIVE IN! You don't have to be an expert in forms to use it with Ss! Let them learn how to do it with you! #DitchBook
A2 #ditchbook
Use Forms to help duplicate yourself and provide immediate feedback. 3 ways to do this
Quiz mode w/ answer feedback
“Go to section based on answer”
Data Validation for responses
A3: My favorite add on is Form Publisher. It is has a free and paid version. To me the paid version is well worth it for the unlimited PDFs it can generate! #Ditchbook
A2 #ditchbook
Here is another one. Customize the forms confirmation message.
Provide directions of what to do next, include a link to review, add a joke for something fun.
Just make it so Ss should be paying attention.
A3: When creating a long form, I love the All Questions Required add-on, Autocrat is nice for making certificates and emailing, and Choice Eliminator 2 is great for giving students choice in project ideas, but not duplicating! #ditchbook
A3: Looks like I got a little ahead of the responses based on my answer to question 2. Gotta be FormMule or Autocrat. Makes the Form usage that much more convenient! #DitchBook
A3. Have not added many add-ons... I do have the one that generates a certificate for Ss when they finish a quiz but use it so infrequently the name escapes me. Also one that removes responses others pick... use that for when Ps sign up for conferences #DitchBook
A3 More app smash than add-on: I've been smitten with GForms + AwesomeTable + GSites combo for quite some time to make public-facing outlet for reading communities. E.G., https://t.co/YIgY5hoFT5#ditchbook
A3: I'm excited to see everyone's reply to this one! I don't use the Add-ons as much with my 2nd grade Ss. I do love to put in Youtube videos that go along with what we are learning about though! Then the Ss have a question or activity to complete! #ditchbook
Wait... there's an All Questions Required Add on... Why didn't I know of this when filling out the Breakout/Break In forms the last few months!!! The things one learns is certainly worth the price of admission to #DitchBook
Thanks, Jen! One form for all that dumps to a spreadsheet. We'd see which Ss are out at the same time, save trees, no hassles because everyone's aware of your hall pass... What's not to love? :) #DitchBook
A3- certify'em because you can easily give badges to students. I also love autoCrat I know its a Google Sheet add on but it goes together because I need the data from forms to use in sheets! This helps me email staff about important reminders.

A3: Favourite Add-on #GoogleForms
Haven't really used any but am curious to try Choice Eliminator! Has anybody out there used it? Currently using it? Thoughts? #Ditchbook
Yes! I'm creating a forms quiz for my students weekly notes quiz RIGHT NOW...so excited to add an "Easter Egg" at the end! Thx for the tip!!! #ditchbook
A4: While I've used the function to send to another page of the form, I'm really intrigued by the choose your own adventure form. I know it will be time consuming so I've never tried to do it #ditchbook
Yes, it's great - Our teachers have used it to let kids sign up for choice activity days - set number of kids per activity and when it's full, that choice disappears. #ditchbook

It was called Choice Eliminator (I think it may now be Choice Elimnatior 2)... could be a little buggy... but I only use it once or twice a year #DitchBook
A4 When I go back to the classroom I would LOVE to do a daily check in with Google Forms. @MsVenturino has an amazing blog post that includes a template for creating your own. #DitchBookhttps://t.co/j3Yn0XZmdw
Not long ago, I saw a tip from @brianrozinsky about using a Google Form and Autocrat to make a MAD LIBS activity! I have not tried it just yet, but excited to try it soon! :) #ditchbook
A4- We have used google forms in multiple ways
🔑 @breakoutEDU
💻 #HyperDocs
💡Reflections
😁Student check ins
🎟Hallway pass (keep track of time)
👩🏻🎨Collecting student 4C's projects (ss can easily see other students projects)
🔍Clue Games
🌋Adventure stories

A4: I have not done much with branching but want to get more involved in that. Open for suggestion of course (as always) from the wonderful #DitchBook crew
I teach a study skills and remediation class and I want to add more accountability for students. I’m working with them on #dataliteracy and #growthmindset but I’m not quite sure how to put it together #ditchbook ditchbook
I put this out as a sidequest after hearing @MandiTolenEDU tell about it. I have one S who is working on it... can't wait to see how it goes and see if it can be something most/all my 3rd graders try #DitchBook

A4b: Maybe not different or creative, but I use Forms/Sheets to keep track of the Rock songs I use for my Blog posts. Don't want to have a repeat! #DitchBook#RockNTheBoat
Just in this chat time there have been so many great ideas! I think it would be super creative to use them as exit tickets in the form of reflections at the end of the day. Also love making them a place to recognize peers. #ditchbook
LOVE! I shared this idea with #ncdlc last summer and could not remember where I’d heard about it to give credit! I knew it would come back to the surface eventually! It’s a phenomenal idea! LOVE! #DitchBook#ncdlcn#nced#scsed#spark18#EPICAcademy

A3: Can I have a favorite and forget it's name at the same time. I looked and it's uninstalled. It works in sheets and scores responses based on the first entry which has to be mine. #ditchbook
Same concept, not different or creative, but rubrics for projects, student reflections, and peer evaluations were my bread and butter as a social studies teacher #ditchbook
A4: What if you could create a customized email newsletter for EVERY student -- in a fraction of the time you'd expect?
It's another Forms + Sheets + Autocrat mashup!
Step-by-step instructions: https://t.co/PwOU7PKKmF#DitchBook#gttribe#GoogleEDU
A4: i went to a session at @iceindiana and the presenter showed us a reading writing "choose your own adventure" story where the kids read a section picked a response and wrote why they picked what they did and then the form went to the next one based on answer #ditchbook
