Good evening, all. Longtime fan of #HOGFBCHAT! Can’t wait for you guys to come visit us at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on March 16th. #PoundTheRock
A1: We try to make the defense wrong. When we scout, we try to find the player who has dual responsibilities, and force him to pick which one he wants to do, then hit them in the other spot. We also prioritize taking their best player out of the game. #hogfbchat
A1. My offensive philosophy is to take what a defense is giving you. If you crowd the box we will make you respect our recievers. If you cover everyone we will pound you with zone and gap scheme from multiple formations. #hogfbchat
A1: aggressive, hard nosed, downhill. We like balance, but if we can run it down your throats we will. I keep my OL hungry to vertically displace the DL and impose their will. #hogfbchat
A1: Our offensive philosophy is to get our best players the ball out in space and watch them perform! Every year we tweak our system to match the guys we have coming up. I think it’s important to be able to adapt your scheme to your players. #hogfbchat
A1: we want to be a tough, physical football team. Fundamentally sound. Be able to run the ball and stop the run. Up front we want to Play Low, Play Fast, Play Physical. Relentless effort. #hogfbchat
A1.) RPO. Every play call is pass first with the run option included no matter the call, Down & Distance. A lot of reading pre snap and post snap as well. TLDR? Score. #Hogfbchat
A1: Offensive philosophy is find as many differnet ways to run our base stuff, keep the defense off balance, and go up tempo to cause as much stress on the other side of the ball as possible #hogfbchat
A1: Dur to my age I would be considered a “throwback” I want to use that ancient player called a “fullback”, 21 and 12 personnel, and I want to run the ball 25+ times. Completely own the LOS. Couple that with simple passing concepts. QB making his throws count #hogfbchat
A1: go as fast as possible while using vertical routes to stretch the field while simultaneously forcing the defense to defend all phases of the zone read and stop Power in multiple personnel groupings.
#hogfbchat
A1 you play offense to score. Find ways to generate explosive plays. Use formations/shifts/motions to find or create mismatches that can be attacked. #hogfbchat
Wing-T system but our mantra for the o-line is all about "Angles & Attitude". Point the rock, impose our will... and throw when we have to haha (at least in my mind) #hogfbchat
A1: since I just started at Akron I’m going with my La Verne offenses. One play too score - play as hard as possible every play, as if you have one play too score #hogfbchat
A1: I would describe my personal offensive philosophy as an option background with spread window dressing. I believe in taking what the defense gives you and using tagged screens to make a defense defend the entire field. #hogfbchat
A1: Offensive philosophy? Spread and shred baby! Fast paced, no huddle, spread them out to run but grip and rip when it's there. Attack vertically but still be able to bash it when we need to.
#hogfbchat
A1: Multiple Spread, about 60/40 Run to pass, lot of our passes are quick game & screens that are extensions of the run game. Do incorporate a little under center as well in our short yardage package. Fit the system to our kids so this can all be adjusted. #hogfbchat
A1: I would define my offensive philosophy as a “mixed bag of philosophies” because I’ve taken things I’ve learned from every stop. Do what your kids can do 2 be the most successful. There are millions of way to skin a cat, but you’ve got to hang your 🎩on something #hogfbchat
A1: Offensive philosophy..... Currently we base out of the Wing-T, but ultimately my personal philosophy is that I need to put my kids in the pest position to be successful. No matter the scheme. #hogfbchat
A1: Our program identity at @WarhawkFootballis based on 3 things:
Fast
Physical
Discipline
Offensively, everything we try to do stems from those 3 things. #hogfbchat
UT Strength and Conditioning Coach “ If your best players aren’t your hardest workers, it doesn’t matter what you do, or what workout you come up with! Truth!
A1: go as fast as possible while using vertical routes to stretch the field while simultaneously forcing the defense to defend all phases of the zone read and stop Power in multiple personnel groupings.
#hogfbchat
A1) Most importantly find a a small number of things you know you can be good at and rep them over & over again. Get athletes the ball in space. Build in answers for the QB w/ pre- & post-snap RPOs. Find ways to generate explosive plays & don’t turn the ball over. #hogfbchat
A1: This often takes the form of RPOs, if the player has a run resp. and a pass resp. Or if a player has two gaps, force him to take one gap then cut it back to the other. If a DL has two gaps, push him into one gap then hit the other. #hogfbchat
A1 Cont: I would love to use a mix of Gap and Zone for my run schemes. I love watching Bama, Georgia, Iowa, Wisconsin, Penn Sate, and Stanford dominate. One important thing is I Bellevue you have to adjust your philosophy to your players strengths #hogfbchat
Q1: For me I want to be a ground and pound offense, whether that be zone or gap scheme, and be able to throw RPOs off all run game. Take what the defense gives you! Want OL to be playing physical all the time! #hogfbchat
A1: Create as many situations during the course of the game where we can have a 1 on 1 battle, and through ability, technique, and intellect, win that battle!
#hogfbchat
A1: multiple spread. At the end of the day, we do what the defense is weak at. Under center, heavy run packages, empty, etc. simple plays, many formations❗️❗️ #hogfbchat
A1: Fantastic Q! Philosophy- if I think about it...Throw the ball short until they give you a better box and then read it/block it. Do anything you can to get WR on LBs. #hogfbchat
A1)
- Fit the scheme to the players
- Control the clock
- Find the weakness in the defense and exploit it until it’s patched up
- Give open field opportunities to big playmakers
#hogfbchat
A1: We want to be the most physical team on the field and run the football. Have to be able to run the football to win in November and December in the midwest! #hogfbchat
A1 Triple Option RPO. We want to be balanced but in sense of being able to run or pass ball at our choosing. Not the ESPN definition of balance #hogfbchat
A1. We are 10 personnel. HC is an old Run and Shoot guy. We're gonna shove it down your throat with IZ and OZ when we can. Usually about 50/50 run pass. Running more RPO. Throw down field
#hogfbchat
A1: MOB MENTALITY! As an O-line throughout the course of the game we wanna take away the Defenses will to play the game by playing fast, physical, and having a whole lot of fun #hogfbchat
A1- Our motto of our program is #PoundtheRock. And while our offense has evolved over the last year, one thing that will never change is the fact that we will always pound the rock. #HOGFBCHAT
Whoops, late for the #HogFBChat intros! Robert Ortiz, OL coach and JV OC at Murrieta Valley HS in Murrieta, CA! Fresh off a trip to @OLPerformance and always ready to help.
A1: Changes year to year honestly. What can our kids do? What are they successful running? Years where we were multiple spread option, years where we look straight spread and throw 75% of the time. MULTIPLE is the answer. Find what our kids do best and we do that. #hogfbchat
A1: ground and pound. Move the LOS. we're moving guys around in different formations and motions but at the end of the day we're here to hit you in the mouth... #hogfbchat
Playing physically up front, taking advantage of open space, and utilizing our personnel to put our players in the best position for success. #hogfbchat
A1: Lastly, we "coach the six inches." We believe that every play is made by six inches or less. A ball six inches off is incomplete. An OL six inches off misses the block. A RB six inches off gets tackled. So we constantly talk about the six inches making a difference #hogfbchat
A2 Our motto is E.A.T. Effort-Attitude-Technique and I expect that every snap. We want to have the most effort and we always look for the next block. #hogfbchat
A1: Multi formations, run first with a vertical passing game. Force defenders to make open field tackles. Sideline to sideline, end zone to end zone #hogfbchat#athletesinspace
I want to do a better job of letting the o-line see “behind the curtain” so that they can understand our game plan. I did not do a very good job of showing my players why we do what we do and how it contributes to the play as a whole. #Hogfbchat
A2: In trying to take the D's best player out of it, that often comes down to what our OL can do. If their best player is an end, how can we make him ineffective? We try to find what blocks work best against him, or don't block him at all and read him. #hogfbchat
A2). Our philosophy and identity begins and ends with the offensive line. We do what they do best and don’t ask them to do something they aren’t good at. #hogfbchat
If we are going to be a tough, physical, fundamental football team, it’s starts with us up front. We set the tone. If OL isn’t those three things, then the team isn’t either. #hogfbchat
A2: What I want to do all starts with the guys up front. Offensive line needs to be physical and dominate up front. Physically moving the defenders up front to wear them out. Straight up Mob mentality up front. #OrganizedCrime#HOGFBCHAT
A2. It's all about the OL in our offense no where to hide when we run the ball 90% of the time. Tell our guys the first second of indy to start each season "we are the heart and soul of the team. We're only as good as this group right here" #hogfbchat
A2) It’s deceptive because people think we’re soft... had a coach tell us “we thought we were going to run over your OL” but we dominated them all game. #hogfbchat
A2: Its everything everything comes back to principles, what we stand for, how we want people to view us when they see us play. Offensive line sets the tone the rest of the team follows suit #hogfbchat
A2: start off every year talking about the most important guys on the field is the o-line. Our guys have to be physical but also must be able to pull and get out in space no matter what position on the line. The more guys you can pull the harder it is for defenses #hogfbchat
A2: it establishes itself in our offensive line because our OL group will be rules driven, and what we hang our hat on, we’ll practice it, drill it, rep it until we’re damn good at it, then we’ll keep doing it to get even better. Be great and confident in what we do. #hogfbchat
A2) We want trench warriors, ground and pound even when they know we are going to run it. OL has to have mentality that we are going to come off ball and hit you in the mouth. #hogfbchat
A2) Contrary to what some coaches here believe I don’t think OL mentality is dependent on scheme. It’s built on trust, commitment, and an indomitable mindset that is established in all parts of OL world from film room to on the field. #hogfbchat
Q2 I believe that my philosophy of being multi-functional allows us to be prepared for any style we encounter. We can see how we are being played, then attack accordingly #hogfbchat
A2: I’m lucky that my OL bought into the culture immediately. They LIVE to impose their will on the DL. They don’t question play calls because they know we are putting them in the position to win. So they know we are going to put it on their shoulders and run the ball. #hogfbchat
A2: We have tough kids that love to work. They are what we base our philosophy on. If they didn’t love to work in the weight room and on their craft we could not be who we want to be #hogfbchat
A2.) ATD. Attention to Detail. Focus on the small details every rep. Weight room. Class room. Cafeteria. On the field. Regardless. Attention to Detail and that will result in A TD. #hogfbchat
A2: That's a good question sir and I thank you for asking it. I'd say our guys know and value their jobs. They play with a mean streak in pass pro and have a great mentality in the run game. Great, bought in group.
#hogfbchat
A2: “A team should be an extension of a coach's personality. My teams are arrogant and obnoxious." - Al McGuire
This quote says it all. Coach with a laser like focus on details of fundamentals and a love of the game
#hogfbchat
A1: maximize the talents of our players. Have and build in answers. Run the ball leads to everything else. Current scheme is a Spread Option-Run system with RPOs at all 3 levels. Use what they do against them. #hogfbchat
A1. Spread the field to run. Distribute touches to as many playmakers as possible. Pass more than they think you will. Expand read option looks. #hogfbchat
A2: Being that I am the OC and the OL coach, it all starts with my guys. I let them know what the plan is and what their role is in the entire framework. A lot of times, those guys know very little of the plan. #hogfbchat
A2)I think it has to, I am a firm believer in teaching the "Why". The O line needs to know why we do what we do. With them, the why will not happen. #hogfbchat
A2: we typically had the smallest OL in our league yet led it in rushing, it created a mentality of playing hard & a sense of urgency. If it’s 4th & goal on the 1 how hard do you block?? Now imagine it’s 1st & 10 on the 50, do you still play that hard? 1 play 2 score #hogfbchat
Q2. We have set a standard that our offensive linemen need to be great at the POA yet work daily at getting up to the second level or to the edge on jet, OZ, or screens. It's a work in progress. #hogfbchat
A2 Get our backs the first 5 so they can accelerate into the 2nd level in space. We need time to take shots in the passing game. Understand protections and become master craftsman at your technique. #hogfbchat
A2. It lets our kids feel comfortable in our offense.
Using a strong side and a quick side let’s our guys do what they do best EVERY TIME.
If you’re not accenting your kids’ strengths, you’re not doing your job! #hogfbchat
A2: Must be able to execute in the run, screen, or pass game. We want our guys to be big, fast, physical athletes. We have a lot of different concepts we can do but it all depends on what the big guys can do the best. #hogfbchat
A2: If none of that works, then we try to hit him with everything we have and keep him guessing. Might be a down block one play, a pull-kick the next, then we cut him with a RB, then pass set him. Mix it up, make him uncomfortable, don't let him get going. #hogfbchat
A2: Every offense starts with he Oline. Nothing else matters if you can’t get those guys right! They almost dictate it more Than the skill guys around them!
Do what you have to do to get them going!
#HOGFBCHAT
A2: Dont complicate things. Understand schemes not assignments. Be fluid in our approach & communicate as much as possible. But be poignant with our words. Theoretically should never end up surprised by what we see across from us. Allows them to play free and fast. #hogfbchat
A2) my guys have to be the hardest workers on the field. If we dont do our job, noone else can do theirs. They have to be violently precise from stance to finish. #hogfbchat
A2: Because we tag screens and RPOs on the back side of run’s and most of those tags are screens, it requires a more athletic offensive lineman. #hogfbchat
A2: Our kids know we’re going to run the football. That’s never a question. They know we’re going to do that by creating angles via our calls and adjustments.
Our pre-snap calls were an area of opportunity that I will focusing on this season. #hogfbchat
A2: The offensive line has to set the tone. We might not have the biggest kids up front. But they’re going to play whistle to whistle. Our line is going to want it more than their line every play of every game #hogfbchat
A2 the motto I’ve started using with the OL is impose your will. Regardless of if it’s a run or pass, I want to be physical upfront. Attack the defense. Don’t be passive. #HOGFBCHAT
A2: in the past, the simplicity of the schemes and basic rules allowed quick identifications. Our kids knew that if all 11 did their job then the play would be a success. They also loved Power and Wildcat package, they would light up!
#hogfbchat
Q2: Very well! I teach my guys to be as aggressive as possible every single play! Being heavy into RPOs, it keeps them aggresive and going down hill every play! #hogfbchat
A2: Ultimately, we want to be super physical and have the body shots on people throughout the game. Nothing better than our plan coming together on the big guys mashing late as we run the clock out. #hogfbchat
A2) Running Iso, utilizing man protection schemes in the passing game so that every person in the box is accounted for through assignment or made wrong by the concept...
#hogfbchat
A2) We preach “most physical team in state” and keep a “D1 block” stat that gets displayed on a big board. It’s the only stat we publicize on our offensive bulletin board. We also have personnel packages for putting reserve OL in at FB or TE in short yardage. #hogfbchat
A2) I’m sure I’m not the only one but we get absolutely nothing done if we can’t run the football. And with what we do in the pass game we ask a lot of our guys. Up front, we run the show, so we must carry ourselves accordingly. Be cerebral, but bring the funk too! #hogfbchat
A2 cont: I’ll also point out that our guys rely on the technique taught no matter what the play call is. They trust each other, and I’m lucky enough that they trust me. If you have that bond, they adopt your philosophy and identity. #hogfbchat
A2: I’m lucky that my OL bought into the culture immediately. They LIVE to impose their will on the DL. They don’t question play calls because they know we are putting them in the position to win. So they know we are going to put it on their shoulders and run the ball. #hogfbchat
A2: I believe it impacts them greatly because that’s where the foundation begins. Have to do what is BEST for the 5 up front! Zone or gap, double teams or fold blocks! #hogfbchat
A2: everything starts up front. Has to be emphasis put on them and they need to be treated as such. All groups must understand the importance of the OL. Coaches must treat it that way too. #hogfbchat
A2: Think players not plays applies to OL, too. Talk about skill? That's where it is! Evaluate skill set. Evaluate what can be coached up to mesh with backfield/edge skill set. Then work to build system off of it. Players not plays. #hogfbchat
A2: Putting team/personnel in situations to be successful starts up front. Run/Pass game starts with can we protect it/can we execute it vs. majority of looks. Want to be solid first. #hogfbchat
A2: Ideally we want to be able to run the football. This year we were a better GT/Stretch based team because our OL fit that scheme. Next year we have this foundation set, but need to adapt it to fit our kids again. #hogfbchat
A2: Our zone schemes require us to keep the DL on the board. In order for us to give the RBs the cleanest reads, we have to be physical up front and take the correct angles to either down linemen or second level defenders. #hogfbchat
A2: Most PHYSICAL team wins. I’m a firm believer in that. Upfront we aren’t passive about anything we do. Whether we are 90% run or pass (even though we were fairly balanced). Being physical in whatever we do offensively IS our philosophy and that starts upfront. #hogfbchat
A2) they know it starts up front with them. We only throw what they can protect, and they understand the run game and screen game goes through them. They have input on what we run during and through the game. #hogfbchat
A2. Every decison on offense should be made to help the offensive line be successful. Play calling. Play design. Personnel. Game plan. Protections. Etc...#HOGFBCHAT
A2 -Cont. I stress CTC (Control The Controllable) and the is where E.A.T. Comes in. Can’t control DL alignment. Can’t control blitz. We can control our effort, attitude and technique though. #hogfbchat
A2: Our philosophy always starts and ends up front. It instills a mentality of attacking defenders and wearing them down in the 4th quarter. We also enjoyed the ability to hit big plays, which can also demoralize defenses. #hogfbchat
A2: Even though we are a pass 1st offense, we have running sets. Between tempo, gap scheme, RPO’s, and run and shoot reads on verticals, we try to put our line an advantage by getting the ball out quick.
#hogfbchat
A2: We place a focus on being physical up front. We do this by keeping our run/pass schemes simple and making our contact practice reps physical. Limit reps and do what you can to make them safe, but make sure they are executed to our standard #hogfbchat
A2: We made sure our kids knew we wanted to run. Also took pride in good play action up front. Backs were tough, and both fed off each other #hogfbchat
A2: I think our practice structure allows our skill guys to have fun slinging the ball around while the OL gets ample Indy/small group work on being physical in the run game. #hogfbchat
A2 cont: our guys got better at mid game adjustments as the game went on. We're returning almost the entire oline, so the flexibility should continue. #hogfbchat
A2: Offensive line is the single most important unit on the offense. When looking at schemes you determine the their strengths and work to blend it with skills strength. #hogfbchat
A2: OL is about continuity, communication, and repetition. Uptempo helps an OL wear down a defense and efficiency is key to developing confidence in young athletes. It’s fantastic for our OL. #HogFBChat
A1: I cant say that I have one at the moment. I’ve coached or played in dang near every scheme under the sun. Liked them all. Currently figuring out what I would do if I was calling the shots lol #hogfbchat
A2 You can’t have a motto of “Pound The Rock” and have it fall short in the offensive line room. But, establishing that starts with getting the right guys in the room and then after you do that cultivate leaders... #HOGFBCHAT
A2: I'm there with my guys all the time. Every moment is a teachable moment. I'm not scared to say/do what needs to be done. When my boys start to doubt themselves in the games, I remind them of that. Be the example. We're working to move you from whistle to whistle... #hogfbchat
A2 cont: that being said, the technique and principles I coach and I grain within our OL are transferable across any scheme and aren’t dependent on one particular thing to succeed. #HogFBChat
A2: As the O-Line goes, so goes the offense. Our guys understand that nothing in the gameplan is going to work unless they do their part. Every position drills with the OL at least once a week to reinforce that the unit doesn't succeed without them. #hogfbchat
A2). Our guys know that we are going to find a way to Run IZ/OZ.
All the window dressing is to keep 6 in the box. If our OL can handle their 5 box defenders the QB and WRs will Handel #6 and #7. We want them playing physical and fast. #hogfbchat
“WIN IN THE TRENCHES” if we do not win in the trenches will we not win. It starts up front. Hard nose, play with an attitude. Beginning of the season we was known for running the counter Trey & stretch. Old school football!!
#hogfbchat
A2. We want our line to establish a new line of scrimmage. We want them to get off the ball quickly using correct techniques, while being physical and violent.#hogfbchat
YES! Understand what zone is, not what you do on zone. That's huge for how I teach them to play. That helps them learn all five spots, because you never know what might happen. We actually had a guy take snaps at all five spots this season! #hogfbchat
Who will teach, encourage, and challenge those in the room. These are two things our offensive coach @Allenbt29 has done a great job of since he came to UWW. #HOGFBCHAT
A3: the defense that is well coached, may not do a whole bunch but you can’t trick. You have to physically beat them! That’s tough. Especially when they are bigger than you. #hogfbchat
A2: KISS philosophy upfront. Dress it up with back field action (reads/motions). O-Line must be
1. Athletic (good feet)
2. Great effort/physical attack
3. Intelligent (understand scheme)

A2: We control literally everything. Play outcome, alignment, tempo, demeanor of the team, etc...it is on us to achieve being the fastest team in America to get lined up. My center takes pride in that! #HogFbChat
A3: Jam or Bear front. Changes responsibilities on certain run plays and usually a free backer somewhere. We will always practice against it each week in preparation to see it. Kids sometimes have trouble in an Odd front as well. #hogfbchat
Q3: For me it is the 3-4 okie front. They can be so multiple and bring people from all over the field. Also if they have a wardaddy in the middle it makes it even tougher! #hogfbchat
A3: Schemes are usually not as big of an issue as players. The hardest thing for the guys I had was speed rushers, especially in the 5 wide scheme i was the coordinator in. #hogfbchat
A3: when teams stack head up on the OL. Whether it’s 2s or 4s it tries to take our angles away for us. Makes us have to communicate well for when the slants come! #hogfbchat
Q1: Get our playmakers the ball in space, we want to stretch the field laterally as well as down the field, we focus on forcing the defenses hand are big into the RPO game, our philosophy is to run what fits our athletes #hogfbchat
A3- Pass Game is the 3-3 stack. I’m not a big slide protection guy so it makes it hard to man protect. Run game I don’t like 4-3 because it’s hard to get the Will blocked on most run plays. If he’s worth his salt he can make a lot of tackles against us. #hogfbchat
A1: Every play is a potential 6 points. We try and score as fast and often as we can sometimes we score so fast it’s to a fault but it’s what we do. #Hogfbchat
A2. At the youth level we use splits, angles, numbers and reads to account for the reality that we are typically playing some limited kids on the line, and we put them in the best position to succeed. #hogfbchat
The 3-3-5 stack. It gives every OL coach a headache. It’s hard to run zone and counter verses those front. A lot of stunts are thrown at you. It’s a pain in the butt.
#hogfbchat
A3) Don't focus on any type of defense, we have a job to do and rules for our schemes. If we follow them and are physical we can be successful. #hogfbchat
A3: the ones we see least often. This year it was the odd front on freshman as we played only one team that lined up like that and really gave us trouble remember all of our rules #hogfbchat
A3: 3-4 defense with smaller, active DL and that is stunt and blitz happy. Only defense that stopped us this year. We actually did decently in pass pro, but they run blitzed us to death, and we were a rushing offense, so that stalled us out. #hogfbchat
A3: a “Flex 4-3”. DL is in a 5-0-5 look with a “flexed” DT a yard and a half off the ball over a guard. We’ve worked out a pretty good system against it. But their Mike is 7 yards back, and the flex is all over, just read and react. #hogfbchat
A3: We struggled with getting backside cut off on any 2i in mid zone. Understanding the angles of OL play knowing that the DL will move on the snap took a lot of reps in indy and games to have a better grasp on. #hogfbchat
We have a smaller line, so we struggle at times with a 5 front when we try to establish the run. Also a lot of teams would run two 1 techs against us to overload our center #Hogfbchat
a3: Seriously though, some sort of bear front or a really well coached 3-4 that doesn't tip their hand to who is coming. Messes with protections and run responsibilities. #hogfbchat
A3: the two defenses that over the years have given my kids the biggest problems have been the 3-3 stack and a split even front. We’ve had success against these looks, but those two looks “look” unconventional so it sometimes make HS OL weary. Just follow your rules #hogfbchat
Q2: How do you feel that your philosophy establishes itself in your offensive line? A2: We are a run first team physical upfront and will be a down hill running team the OL is the most important position on the field and set the tone for everything that we do!!#hogfbchat
A3: I find a GOOD 3-3 team can be very tough to prepare for. If they do a lot of movement up front, or bring a lot of pressure, it can cause quite the headache..!
#hogfbchat
A3: Odd fronts gave us fits this year. For whatever reason, our guys would freak out when they saw something slightly different from film as well. #hogfbchat
Q3 The 5-2 defense gave us problems last year because of lack of adjustments. I took over the offensive line in Week 4 of last season and the mid game adjustments that were needed weren't being made by the higher ups #hogfbchat
A3- Odd fronts seem to require more attention for us. We are an even front team & the majority of our league. We have answers for them but we just don’t see them as often it seems #hogfbchat
#hogfbchat A2: being simplistic but multiple in our run game with Read calls easily added on to schemes to control free hitters...also looking to continue to synthesize everything
A3. This is an easy one. We love pulling. Power, GT, Wrap, uncovered on jet. Our problems come from the 3-5-3 or just simple blitzing lbs up the middle. We need to work on adjusting to guys replacing our pullers #hogfbchat
A3: 5-2 would give us the most issues in the run game but we are outnumbered so THROW THE BALL!
True 3-4’s came with rule adjustments so I guess that would be the one.
#hogfbchat
Honestly, teams that played their base because it meant they were well coached and were going to be exactly where they were supposed to be all the time. #hogfbchat
A3. Defenses that will out physical us. Defenses that penetrate and throw off the track of our pullers. Defenses that are good with quick overload pressures.#hogfbchat
A3: Teams that can match up well 1 on 1. It’s about players, not plays. I will say that press man teams are tough if they have better dudes, most receivers are not used to it. 3-3 teams that bring guys from everywhere can be tough. #hogfbchat
3-3 stack because they can play alot of games with the backers.
Also any front that has a dominant shade over the center. If he is a hoss, your gaurds have to step up. #hogfbchat
A3: Those that do a great job of stemming/slanting. I dislike facing 3-3 stack defenses more than the others but it’s moreso what you do with your guys pre/post-snap rather than initial alignment. #HogFBChat
A3. In theory, If your system is good enough, no “front” should pose a big problem. You have to have the answers built in though. My answer would be the DL and LB’s that are simply a lot better than our OL. #HOGFBCHAT
A3: With thy being said, I think defenses that aren’t well coached and freelance is harder to call plays against then well coached defenses. You can manipulate defenders in a well coached scheme. #hogfbchat
A3: A very well coached 3-4 defense with a dominate nose guard. Hard to deal with, props to @MrCoachCampbell at Smithville on that, they do a great job with their scheme. Like someone else said though, one full of great athletes that try to stunt your eyes out...#hogfbchat
A3: we had 2 rookie centers this year, so we struggled with anyone playing a nose. Couldn't get the step/snap down early on... it came around towards the end of the season and that position started to be one of our stronger ones #hogfbchat
A3: Defenses that mix their looks up front always give us a hard time. We want to have some tempo to our offense and communicating the front slows us down from time to time. #hogfbchat
A1: Run - Need either numbers, or physical advantage at pt of attack. Ground and pound until they adjust. I like long, methodical drives - vrs quick hitters. Bld O around plays that will get us 3-3.5 yds consistently #hogfbchat ⚒️🐗⚒️
A3: I think the evolution of the tite front makes it hard to get good combos to backers. I also think it’s hard for OL to recognize the high middle hole player as a box player when working their combos. #hogfbchat
For whatever reason I love blocking the 3-3... We run a ton of zone and the stacks are already there. We will pull guys and just have to adjust there combos are coming and going. #hogfbchat
A3: when defenses align in 2’s and 4’s, makes it tough from a angle stand point, we long when teams show bear front, we drill 4 automatic bear checks (2 runs/2 passes) to take advantage of teams that like to run a Bear front against us #hogfbchat
A3) this season it was the odd front team for 7 films that comes out in a 4-2-5, or the 4-3 team for the past 2 years that is a 3-3 stack when they get to us. #hogfbchat
A3) Just like with OFF I don’t think there’s any one particular DEF scheme that we can’t have answers for. Execution almost always trumps scheme. Gotta have answers for various schemes as well as individual technique and matchups. #hogfbchat
3-3 stack. Doubles are harder to read and lots of twists and stunts. Backside backer can always come from behind and make tackles too if in 10 personnel #hogfbchat
It is always hard to tell kids about teams Iike this, that sometimes playing bad defense will be good defense. They are just in the wrong place and the kids get confused. #HogFBChat
True about the NT. We actually killed the 3-3 team we played because they didn't have a NT, they had to play a big end there. We just down blocked him and were able to climb to the MIKE. #hogfbchat
A3: Teams with interior D-Linemen that control line of scrimmage. We typically pull our guys and read de/lbs. Hard to have success when DTs are playing on your side of the ball.
#hogfbchat
A3: DL with multiple D1 players. We played a few of them this year. Sucked.
One of the benefits if 10 personnel is limiting what we see scheme wise.
I dislike teams that stunt all over the place. Kids can get flustered quickly. We were Young this year
#hogfbchat

This was our base look this year (defensively). Tough when they cover up the middle three, basically eliminate combos. But anytime their Jimmys are better then my Joes 🤷🏻♂️. (Napkin drawing while eating with the wife) #hogfbchat
Q3: What defenses give you the biggest problems as an offensive line coach? A3: odd fronts took away our angles but began adjusting by brining in a TE or going Tackle Over it's hard to stop "God's Play" aka Power in any front. #hogfbchat
A3: The 3-3 Stack no questions asked. Especially if their spurs can match the speed of our slots and can carry us in the vertical game. It’s going to be a long night.
#hogfbchat
A3 a 3-3 stack. Makes it harder to read things. Defense can disguise stunts and blitzes. Double teams can be tougher too. Gotta spend a lot of time repping it to make sure we’re confident and when in doubt, default to base blocking rules #HogFbChat

A2: My Oline knows from Spring onwards 1) the game is won (or lost) upfront 2) they MUST get push upfront 3) If 2nd level block, they MUST get on backer. Everything we do in the run game is geared towards those 3 objectives. #SutrOLine#hogfbchat ⚒️🐗⚒️
As defensive coordinator at Duarte high,Ca we played exclusively cover 0, we played a 3-3-5 and had to bring lots of pressure to make up for our lack of lineman this season #HogFBChat

Loved it, playoff football; grind it out and show the defense that they have a long day ahead of them. Also takes some pressure off the QB to make so many big plays in the passing game. #HogFbChat
A3: I felt like we handled different fronts very well up front. As a coach, I worry about the stunting defensive lines. Movement before the snap doesn't faze my guys. After the snap requires quick thinking in our offense. Sometimes that can be a bad thing.
#hogfbchat
Yeah that’s huge! I know a lot of team like a bit of @RunThePower because you just create a wall and get moving! Find guys in a different color jersey and hit like they slapped your momma!
#HogFbChat
A4: Film study predicates what you plan to do in any given game, as we all know. New England saw a weakness in the Chiefs front seven and attacked it like any good coach would do. #HogFBChat
A4) I’ve been waiting for someone to come back to true ISO with a FB, LBs now a days aren’t built for that, they’re built for running in coverage. #hogfbchat
A4: I loved it. There is benefit in going 21 personnel when teams simply don’t see it often. Having the ability to bounce effectively between different personnel’s is one of the things I love about their offense. #hogfbchat
A4: Football, like many other things, is cyclical. I loved seeing the zone iso and counter with the FB/H yesterday. Brought my back to 1997: 22 Blast and 18/19 Counter Switch #hogfbchat
A4: NE will do whatever they feel will win the game. It’s a part of BB philosophy to be flexible enough to attack your weakness. The first drive of the game was the perfect example. #hogfbchat
A4 Everything is cyclical. Defensese "evolve" to smaller and quicker...offense respond by putting them in a meat grinder. We were hoping to be ton of 22 last year but that dream never materialized. #hogfbchat
A4: Bellicheck is going to do what he needs to do to win. Putting the game on the ground is a great idea in the playoffs because you dictate tempo. #hogfbchat
A4: It reminds me that football is cyclical. Just like the Wildcat wasn't new, this was destined to return. As teams went small on defense to try and combat spread offenses, it makes sense to bring back size. Now those 225 pound LBs are tiny & stand no chance #hogfbchat
A4: Completely threw the other teams for a loop. Not a Patriots fan by any means, but it causes a lot of issues in a league where being “physical” isn’t allowed as much so teams aren’t built for it because the mentality has changed. #hogfbchat
A4: awesome to see. Everything comes full circle in the NFL (and football in general). NFL defenses have tried to catch up to offensives by getting faster which often results in sacrificing size and strength at linebacker. #HogFBChat
A4: so many 10 or 11 personal that 21/22 personal is becoming rare. Can be effective because they don’t see it everyday in practice. Example: NDSU #HogFBChat
A4: Absolutely love it!! Always love to see football cycling back around. Teams gaining advantages by doing what others aren’t doing. Be the only book on the shelf #HogFbChat
#hogfbchat A4: I LOVE IT. Belichick picks up what other teams don’t use=good matchups! Trying to dive into their run game heavily, as the CPs seem similar across board (1/2)
Get your pencils out everybody; Guru in the House #hogfbchat@Coach_J_Clark is as good as they come, stole a lot of my passing game I’ve put together from conversations with this dude
A3: We roll between a 3-4 base to a 4-3 against a tight end. We slant a lot and it causes a disruption with a free runner off the edge (sorry no beer references in this one) #hogfbchat
A3: Non-traditional defenses. Ds that do "goofy stuff" - e.g. standup D lineman, Backers playing on LoS, keep me up Thursday nights. Also late-shifting D lines 'bug' me, but we usually can catch them w/tempo. #hogfbchat ⚒️🐗⚒️
A4. Love it. They use it so well. Their Lead, power, and wham plays are scary. Due to personnel we will use more 21 pers this year. We were mainly 10 and 11 last year. #HogFbChat
A4: I believe it’s the biggest reason for why they have this dynasty. They are built to do whatever works best against the defense. Their personnel fits smash mouth football too! Hate the Patriots, but love how they play! #hogfbchat
Netflix owes $32 billion in coming years for TV series and movies, plus debt repayments, lease costs and other expenses.
That's 115 times Netflix’s peak year of cash generation https://t.co/cjBfyfyD1U via @bopinion
A4 Belichick is always going to figure out what puts the most stress in your life and press on it until it hurts. What shocks me is how well his players execute what he needs them to so much of the time. #hogfbchat
A4. I think it is nothing more than them realizing that is their best chance to control a game. If they can run the ball, it will open up their quick game that much better. #hogfbchat
A4: hey man, I'm an Air Raid guy but there ain't nothin wrong with some 21 personnel murderball like last night. Being awesome on 3rd down helps too.
#hogfbchat
A4) Deja Vu. I was having flashbacks to Patriots circa 2004 or something lol…but seriously, football is cyclical. It all comes full circle eventually! #hogfbchat
A4: just seems wicked smart. Saw a stat that Pats ran like 90+ plays to chiefs 40 something. They did well what their opponents haven’t been to good at stopping. Isn’t that what we are all trying to do? 🤷🏻♂️ #hogfbchat
A4) I think if you have the personnel, why not? We are lucky to have a fb and a couple TEs...so even though we are spread, we can and will use 12p, 20p, and 21p if necessary to execute our gameplan and gain leverage....go with what you have, dont chase others!
#hogfbchat
#hogfbchat A4: Pats run game is a prime example of there’s always something you can dictate to the defense...heavy DL, less pass rush, one less LB or DB.
A4: I couldn’t have chiseled the grin off my face. There’s nothing wrong with getting tight splits, getting hip to hip and punching another team in the mouth, and if they can’t stop it, do it again #hogfbchat
A4: loved it considering that's what we've done in the past. Our boys don't see it much anywhere and they dislike it at first... seeing it in the playoffs and super bowl gives us a little street cred. Just gotta do better as coaches at getting our boys to execute #hogfbchat
A4) Love it! Gronk catching a lot of heat for his low reception output but he’s great in the run game. Michel & Burkehead are great downhill backs to fit the power/zone game as well.
#hogfbchat
A4: I would love to see how much time was used by linebacker coaches teaching how to defeat an iso block from a fullback 20 years ago vs right now. They’ve had to work on other things. Patriots are taking advantage of it. More teams will. #BringbacktheFullback#hogfbchat
A4. Sometimes it's not the scheme, nor the hottest clinic convo. Coaching is coaching. Put your ego away and do what works. The NFL has overloaded on DBs, small Lbs. The Patriots are smart enough to take advantage of it #hogfbchat
A4: It showed confidence in the OL and FB to take a game over. It was a true example of throwing to score, and running to win. Takes pressure off of an elite QB and OC. #hogfbchat
A4: Cant answer this question in 140. I think they see teams using smaller and smaller backers plus defensive coordinators aren’t scheming consistently for 21 Personel schemes. They play their best game 11 and with the best FB in the league it makes sense. #HOGFBCHAT
A4 think they r getting ahead of curve by going back to the future. 11 is the new 21. w more defenses basing out of nickel 21 is a good answer to make the Nickle play in a phone booth or if the d puts extra LB in allows gronk to have good matchup on LB #hogfbchat
A2. Our offense is built around the OL. Everyone that plays for us or watches us play knows it. We don’t have a “feature back”, we have a “feature line”. #hogfbchat
A4: All in on the FB. I need to do more research on the offensive end, but pro style with someone leading through the hole gives teams fits since most teams are spread. #hogfbchat
A4: It's funny because we all lauded the Patriots when they went spread in 2007 with Moss/Stallworth/Welker. Then again when they went 12 with Gronk/Hernandez. Now they're great for using a traditional fullback. What a tenure Belichick has had. #hogfbchat
First time back since August. I missed you all! (To the pt that I forgot what time #hogfbchat Starts!)

A4: I love it because it gives Gronk an opportunity to show how much of an effect a TE can have on the running game as a physical blocker. Makes me want even more time with TEs in our OL indy time #hogfbchat
A4 kinda goes back to belichicks game plan against the bills in super bowl xxv. Control the clock, keep kelly and the kgun off the field and wear down the bills quick but undersized defense. #hogfbchat
Please remember to follow your fellow coaches for weekly chats and constant collaboration! Love this profession and love the men and women involved in it! #Hogfbchat
A4 continued: Great coaching move by the patriots to play to their personnel’s strength and not get caught pretending to be something they weren’t.
#hogfbchat
If anybody has any topics or questions they would like discussed on a future #hogfbchat please do not hesitate to DM myself or @CoachDingus and we will get to them as quickly as possible #hogfbchat
For anyone around Dayton Ohio on February 18th we will Be putting on our annual Big Man Showcase if you have any olinemen or Dlinemen interested please pass along. #hogfbchat
A4: I love both the physicality at poa as well as what it sets up - play action and the screen game. Also I like that the FB can get 'lost' in the play action game. #hogfbchat
Thanks for being here Coaches! I’ve been your cohost Tony Shiffman, looking forward to seeing you all next Monday at 8pm CST for another installment of the #hogfbchat

A1) make them defend all 11 as much as possible. All about the read game on as many runs as possible whether it’s a pull/keep or RPO. Use their rules against them. Put your kids in the best chance to win, instead of trying to force a square peg in a round hole. #hogfbchat

Shout out to @CoachJGrice and @FlyCoach_68 for participating in #hogfbchat tonight. Couple of the Imeck’s finest getting better on a random Monday in January. Both of you do a great job.
@CoachShiffman Coach, thank you for hosting the #hogfbchat! Been too long since I've been a part of it. I was wondering if you knew what the ST chat was? I saw one once a while ago and can't find it again.
@MAXONEapp is a great tool for coaches. One central location for all team communication, training, and organizational tools! It saves coaches a ton of time and will help create a more efficient program. #hogfbchat

A2). Try and make you lines job easier by finding ways to read their best front 7 guy instead of trying to find ways to block him. When you do have to block him use the best angles or false keys to make it easier. Goes with giving your guys the best chance to win. #hogfbchat
Serious question, and this isn’t a dig at you, but why do many coaches extol the virtues of a FB but bemoan spread schemes that run a sniffer? It’s the same thing in all honesty. #HogFBChat
A4). Love it. Take what the defense is giving or you where you feel like you have better matchups. If that’s lining up and smashing them in the mouth then all for it. Don’t think they’d be doing things they don’t feel like they have the advantage in. #hogfbchat
A4) Cntd- love Tony Romor doing play by play. Like having a coaches chat in game. Obviously I’m biased but the people who don’t like him need to get over it. Maybe if they listened they’d learn something. #sorrynotsorry#Hogfbchat
Watched from afar tonight, but one question that I had to jump in on was what front gives us the most trouble... one that has dudes like this. #hogfbchat
A3) odd front with NG and 4i’s. Gotta decide if you want to leave tackle or C on an island when pass blocking. Run game wise depending on your scheme if you don’t have some tackle fold or trap/wham stuff can be hard to dig them out if you wanna run inside. #hogfbchat
2018- like a Mike Leach / Art Briles / Lincoln Riley mix. 🤷♂️
WSU’s 10 personnel passing game, mixed with Baylor’s 20 personnel formations and choice plays, and Oklahoma’s misdirection and gap running game.
60/40 pass this year. Years past more 75/25 pass
#HogFbChat
My fellow #HogFbChat coaches. I’m looking for some good pass pro drills. In the past the teams i have been on have primarily 3 step. Wanting to educate myself on some 5 step pass set techniques. Please hmu @CoachShiffman@CoachStough
Busy cleaning this evening - missed #HOGFBCHAT . Thread below is my response. Answering these great questions serves as a great opportunity to be honest and self reflect on coaching principles, methods, and teachings.
