A1: if running buck: ps puller has open backside gap. Bs puller is always guard. If running reach scheme: bs guard and tackle with 3 man surface. Guard only with no te. #hogfbchat
A1. Usually same guys each time. There are adjustments we can make to switch it up. I've toyed with pulling my center if he's athletic enough #Hogfbchat
Most of the time 1st puller is determined on who is covered. 2nd puller depends, if the center isn’t great at it, we’ll pull the backside guard. #hogfbchat
A1: we generally go by who has the angle. If we are facing a 4 front with a 3-tech we will pull the PSG. If we are facing a 1-tech or 3-front we will pull the center. #hogfbchat
A1. Players give open/close calls. Not really a pin and pull team, but when we do use it, it’s up to the players to make the call. No set rules. #hogfbchat
A1: Depends on how smart my OL is. If they can communicate effectively I like to pull uncovered, but have done it the same guy every time to simplify if needed. Same for power & counter. #hogfbchat
A1: we ran our sweep play with the same 2 pilling every time. The Strong Guard pulled to lead and the Quick guard pulled for "trash." SG only pulled if he didn't see a blitz or freer like he didn't have numbers. #hogfbchat
A1: Great Question, looking forward to hearing from everybody on this. We've done covered/uncovered but I'm thinking about just pulling both guards this year. I've never pulled a center, too worried about bad snaps. #hogfbchat
: if running buck: ps puller has open backside gap. Bs puller is always guard. If running reach scheme: ps guard and tackle with 3 man surface. Guard only with no te. #hogfbchat
A1) Same guy each time. Variety of plays/actions to pull different guys. Want dudes to react and be faster than the defense has ever seen so we take out the thinking. I like it more for ball carrier, too, hits hole fast knowing who's he's following #hogfbchat
A1. Love me some P&P outside zone! If you have an inside technique you pin. If not you pull. It’s basic wing-t principals from a spread with a read in there to. #HOGFBCHAT
A1) For simplicity & consistency I believe it should always be the same person so it gives our lineman less to think about. Sometimes it can change based on the opponents personnel #hogfbchat
A1) Love the pin-pull scheme but from high school to college to now I’ve really only ran Power. Some mild attempts at Buck Sweep to little to no avail. Used IZ + H slicing against the grain as a “counter.” Looking forward to your answers! #hogfbchat
A1: We've done it both ways. Inexperienced line this year wasn't avle to communicate it as well to each other as we have had in previous years so we just set who was going and staying. The rule is if you're covered to your backside gap, you're pinning. if not, go. #HOGFBCHAT
Q1: How do you decide who pulls on your pin pull? Covered/Uncovered or the same guy each time? #Hogfbchat A2 pull PSG in even front 3 tech pull center if getting playside 1 Tech make a covered call.
A1: Have not ran much pin pull. Have at times had tackle pull on OZ with a 7 tech on TE. Also depends on who is more athletic and better at pulling. Has been OTs the past few years. I would like it to be same guy as it is more consistent then. #mtzmade#hogfbchat
Pretty simple rules Pin & Pull rules from Michigan OL coach Ed Warriner. Based on covered/uncovered. If you have someone in your inside gap, block down, if uncovered then pull. Michigan is big on this scheme also, similar rules.
A1: We have done both at different points in the past, see a lot of 4 man fronts which helps us stay with some base pull rules but have made adjustments at times #hogfbchat
A1) Pin and Pull is tied with a covered and uncovered rule for all stretch and outside zone plays for the Center. Guards only pull on designed blocking schemes. #hogfbchat
A1- playside guard and tackle rule inside threat pull. Will always pull either center or bs guard depending on ability. Changes year to year #HogFbChat
A1: we’re not really a pin and pull team. We ran some pin and pull 2 years ago and when I was in the wing T, but it was always the same guys pulling. We never pulled a center vs. an even front.
#HOGFBCHAT
A1-Obviously pulling uncovered is easiest, but we will pull in both cases. We demand our guys to understand angles, footwork and what it’s going to take to get the job done. #HogFbChat
Hey coaches, go give @CoachAllen62 a follow. He's a good coach just moving back down to the big guys!! Let's hook him up with some resources and networking. #hogfbchat
A1: Covered/uncovered. However, Any OS zone I’d allow them to pin and pull if they wanted if they felt the angle was best. Same if a pin and pull play was called, if the angle wasn’t ideal, they can treat it like OS zone. Give your players options and they will thrive #hogfbchat
A1 Learn something everyday. I thought it was called a pin and pull scheme because the pullers aren’t dictated. I thought dictating pullers was buck, etc... #Hogfbchat
A2. Depends on the defensive front. Have different rules for a 3 and 4 man front, but it’s always a plus when you have a center who can pull. #hogfbchat
A2: The center is supposed to be a big dog in the middle that can take on the NT, climb to backers, and dictate double teams. No need to have him pull too. The guards can handle it. #hogfbchat
A1) Usually pull the uncovered OL and Pin with the Covered OL nearest the inside shoulder. Also depends on LB reads. Are they reading Guards all the time or Uncovered OL. Different OL reads will slow LBs down. #hogfbchat
A2: try not to over coach it. Every kid is going to be a little different. For me, less is more just see if they can get out unscathed and be a wrecking ball. #hogfbchat
A1: I do not like to pull Center as I typically have the rest of OL set further back because they pull. Usually Center has a tough enough job snapping and taking a bucket step for OZ. I'm not sure I want him opening up even more. #mtzmade#hogfbchat
A2: That was our experiment lol. Had a center that could move early in the season and wanted him in space. Never taught him any new technique, just told him to keep repping it and do it. #hogfbchat
A2: we have. For snapping and pulling I actually teach a 45° backward step in the direction he’s pulling, much like a skip pull. Keeps the hips square during the snap. Then they can open up the hips and move. #hogfbchat
A2 we always pulled the center this season because that was our best player. Really work on having the center get deep to clear the first downblock - snap and step - not very different than any other play other than they have to skip and then open up #hogfbchat
A2: The backside gap rule applies to the center too. If there's a 3 tech to his backside gap, he's our puller. Footwork changes dependent on play. If he's pulling for LB it's snap, skip, pull/wrap. If he's the leader it's snap, flip hips, get to the edge. #HOGFBCHAT
A2. Yes I have my center pull on pin and pull. When practicing different pulls, we have our center execute each pull with a snap along with it! #hogfbchat
A2) 1st have to see if he can. I teach snap is most important thing, then teach a small laterally step on a skip pull so that shoulders are square. #hogfbchat
A2. Absolutely! I preach snap first. Then go. If we have a kid who can snap with both hands we use the opposite hand from where we pull. Other then that it’s a regular open or skip pull. #hogfbchat
A2: seen center pull, Ive never taught it, but seen it taught if you’re snapping with the arm on playside, then it becomes about dropping the playside foot and getting your momentum going that way rather than ripping the elbow #hogfbchat
A2: We tried that last year with our center but was unsuccessful due to the fact he was coming off ACL. We will see how it goes this year. Would love to be able to pull my center. #hogfbchat
A2. If the center was uncovered yes he could pull. I tried not to overcoach the snap and pull tech. Snap the football, and do ur best to run and find some work. He usually sprang the block for a cut back, so he wasn't ever out in front. Just run and find it. #hogfbchat
A2: I’d love to pull the center I’ve just never had one that athletic. I know Havelock use to send their center to kick the corner on slip screen to the boundary. I still have dreams about it.
#HOGFBCHAT
A2) Definitely not against it. Depends on the scheme I’m working within and the savviness of my man in the middle. He’s got to THAT DUDE for it to be a staple!! #hogfbchat
A2) I’ve had too many bad experiences with the center pulling, first & foremost the SNAP is 1st priority that’s what I want my center focusing on... So no we don’t. #HOGFBCHAT
A2) A center that can pull is like a fish that jumps in your boat. Not really sure how it happened, but you seem like a genius when it does. But seriously, must be a special kid that can get the ball up and run. Stance/first step discipline is key. #hogfbchat
A2: the only time we let our Center pull is on Counter Trey vs. a backside 3 tech. He just trades roles with the guard. That’s a gap scheme though. As far as technique goes, we just let them figure out what works best for them to snap and pull. #Hogfbchat
A2. Not a pin/pull team. Will use C as a trapper on counter. Check feet before snap/make sure ball is under C eyes. We want a short lever on the snap. My centers know the snap always comes first #HOGFBCHAT
A2: we teach a dead ball snap and have all of our lineman learn and work pull steps everyday. This goes back to Q1- uncovered man pulls, only if you have athletic enough Center #hogfbchat
A1: If DL in backside gap, he that's his downblock - 'pins' him. If not, he pulls. (easy to follow rule and best leverage to drive on the down block) #hogfbchat
A2) Definitely not against it. Depends on the scheme I’m working within and the savviness of my man in the middle. He’s got to be THAT DUDE for it to be a staple!! #hogfbchat
A2: I have had my center pull before, applied a lot of emphasis on snap first and then had him skip pull. Had him work with the guards on pulling and setup cones to get footwork and angles.
#HOGFBCHAT
A2: We pull the center on some pass plays at times as a PP or to kick out an end. Starting by focusing on stance, don’t give it away....then relaxing to secure a sound snap..followed by an open or drop step with aggressive pulling elbow with eyes up looking for work! #hogfbchat
A2 cont: a long time ago, we pulled the center in college. We pulled C based on allignment. Really worked snap finish, and a quick open step, bigger cross over 2nd step. For sure helped our offense. #hogfbchat
A2: I like the idea. Throws off the defensive reads. He would need to snap and open his hips like he was running flat down the line. Hit with the play side shoulder and be ready to dig that OLB out of there #HOGFBCHAT
A2) Yes. On most offensive lines, the Center is the smartest guy. His, You, Me, and We call tell the everyone going play-side what to do. The center can most important job is the snap, then he's the cleanup man on the pull #hogfbchat
A2: Our centers pull in a lot of our schemes and I guess we’ve been lucky enough to not have to worry too much about bad snaps while pulling.. try not to change anything with your mechanics #HogFbChat
A2) We won’t use our center to pull. He is always viewed as ‘covered’ as he is ‘covering’ for our pullers. He’s the man in the middle while letting others worry about the edge on our outside zone scheme. #HOGFBCHAT
A2: Yes we will have him pull. We teach the open pull(drop step) with his playside foot. Really tell him to focus on keeping hips as square as possible on 1st step to ensure snap to qb. If they can do it naturally, we try not to over coach it. #hogfbchat
#HOGFBCHAT A2: I typically don't like it. Only 2 centers in 25 years who could do it with consistency. It also slows the play if he is replacing a guard on an outside pin and pull.
A2: it's a learned behavior. Find some good cutups of pouncey and study his footwork. Kinda like dancing, learn the steps, and rep that shit until it's automatic
#HOGFBCHAT
A2: Tried pulling C and BST on counter and kept getting blown up. So we went traditional BSG/BST on counter. Pondering pulling C and H on C Gap Power. #hogfbchat
A2 only if he’s able. Teach 90 step minimal ground huge emphasis on keeping hips shoulders square as possible on 1st step: snap is most important. After that, footwork is same as everyone else. #HOGFBCHAT
A2 - Bucket Step and snap; the snap isn’t as hard as you think it is. It takes 1,000 reps to master it, just as snapping for the Inside Zone
#HogFbChat
Q2: Will you ever have your center pull on pin/pull playsIf so how do you teach the technique for pulling and snapping? A2 my centers get geeked up to try it if they can do it successfully we roll with it if they can't we don't some years it's a given some not so much #hogfbchat
A2: I would like to be able to do that at some point. Problem is he seems to get caught up in trash/ run through. We take the approach as the skill guys...get your athletes in space. Usually G and T are our most athletic. I would teach get the snap first as always #HogFbChat
Q3: aiming point changes based on leverage. If he is tight, nose in armpit. If we are down blocking across a full gap, will look to put our ear hole on his playside number. #hogfbchat
HSSocialMedia : RT CoachShiffman: Q2: Will you ever have your center pull on pin/pull plays? If so how do you teach the technique for pulling and snapping? #Hogfbchat
A3: It’s delicate, isn’t it? You need to come down hard enough so they don’t get upfield and pick off pullers, but at the same time, you have to stay more playside than power because of where the play hits and how long it lasts. #hogfbchat
A3. Upfield hand on the outside arm/ribs, backside hand far number, and screws of the helmet to the bottom of the face mask. Have to dig them out. #HOGFBCHAT
A3: Head to opposite inner thigh/hip in order to get our body in position. Head snap and the body will follow. Had a hard time getting head across and usually was behind the hip which meant 👀😬😑💀 #hogfbchat
Q3) Down block- Shoot closest hand to playside shoulder and work hips to DL near hip. DO NOT GET BEAT ACROSS YOUR FACE!! Work hips upfield if DL tries to cross face/spin. Lockout- not sure what you mean. #hogfbchat
A2: Ctr the exception to the rule. To much going on already w/snap-steps - particularly in gun/pistol. IF I had an athlete that could do all that and do the footwork required to not break QBs ankle stepping on him, I'd make him a TE! #hogfbchat
A2) Pull the center either side when uncovered vs 2 Techniques or to the weakside vs a 31 or OVER look. Guards have to really work to get the Pin but the center being free creates a blocker that the LBs won't see coming. #hogfbchat
A3: Head across to stop penetration, front side hand on opposite breastplate (grab & pull), back side hand punch and push the hip. If you hit the hands right and pull the breast plate it's almost impossible to spin off. #hogfbchat
A3) I try not to get too detailed on this, as aiming points tend to vary based on size, shade, etc. Keep it basic with inside hand on near number (I’ve done v of the neck in the past) & outside hand on hip. Control the hip, control the man! #hogfbchat
A3: I teach my guys to aim at their far hip knowing with movement they will be in position to his near number with hands attacking low to high at the near number and near hip. #HogFbChat
A3) Now we're talking! 2 techniques: 1) Head across shoulder through bottom of ribcage to stop penetration. 2) Head upfield shoulder through bottom of ribcage to stop flow over the top. OL must figure out which they need by reading DL/watching film. #hogfbchat
A3: always taught getting head across and getting far foot to near foot. With so many slanting defenses now I'm seeing back blocks look more like a lateral drive and staying square. I'd be interested to hear more on this #hogfbchat
A3: I teach my guys to aim for the backside number flat down the line(getting them to aim where they are going not where they are), for the lockout it all depends on the blocker and the target....I usually give freedom there if they can do it right #hogfbchat
A3: near hip is the aiming point, want to get inside hand across the numbers to the armpit, use backside hand to cave it all down, head across, feet pounding the ground #hogfbchat
A3: Face mask to the play-side collarbone and expect DL to spin to the ball so don’t over commit and get ready to replace your hands and stab that shoulder. #HOGFBCHAT
A3 on pin and pull we don’t downblock. We call it a pin block and we just work to keep the man away from the playside. It’s probably more like boxing out in hoops than an actual block. Lateral movement is the key. The te/h has the tough one in setting the edge #hogfbchat
A3: I like to aim for the near earhole with the crown of my Riddell. Hand placement is key to avoid upfield penetration. Gotta get your backhand on the near hip and your front hand up and outside and run like the wind
#HOGFBCHAT
Eyes have to be in front of the defender and break his ribs with the PS hand. I used to teach Head in front to stop penetration but now I teach eyes. #hogfbchat
A3: Aiming points/targets on down blocks should be nearside number with far and, eyes to playside ribcage, and playside hand to defenders playside hip #hogfbchat
A3 Depends on severe angle or combo philosophy. From there it would depend upon dictated or varying of splits philosophy which would dictate technique verses shades and I techniques. #HOGFBCHAT
A3: We go near shoulder to near hip. Playside hand goes to the chest plate. Rear hand tries to punch their lungs out of the opposite ribcage. Head behind and drive your feet until you can Umaga Flop on top and assert your dominance #HOGFBCHAT
A3: Depends on the angle. Ear hole through the defenders crotch if we are going across the whole gap, if they are an inside shade we are working through the near side number.
#HOGFBCHAT
A3) My favorite saying on this has been "ear hole on belly button" (stole from @jbreland631) Biggest thing is staying low, head across, and refuse to let DL cross LOS. I tell them you can wash him to the sideline as long as he doesn't cross the LOS. #hogfbchat
A3. Down block for us is head across the dl body, our inside arm shooting for inside should pad of dl(they miss shoulder hand ends up down the middle of dl chest) outside hand to arm pit elbow of dl. Try and get hips square to sideline and drive them down. #hogfbchat
We teach cutoff penetration. Depends on alignment and feel for DL. 1st step near # to crotch, hat on near number, inside hand on breast plate. Outside hand strong punch and ride the hip #hogfbchat
#HOGFBCHAT A3: we are way off ball. Good angle created. Near chest. Try to fit fingers under shoulder pads and lift to his chin. Get belly to belly quick. No lockout.
A3: We teach cutoff penetration. Depends on alignment and feel for DL. 1st step near # to crotch, hat on near number, inside hand on breast plate. Outside hand strong punch and ride the hip #hogfbchat
A1: In past years with smaller more athletic guards we always pulled both guard like bucksweep. Didn't run it much this year, bigger guards and ran more zone. #hogfbchat
A2 this was a part of why i went bucksweep style and always pulled guards... tough block and haven't had a great pulling center in a few years. #hogfbchat
A3) Inside Hip and Inside Shoulder. We want the defender to have to try to go around us if he has to make a full circle he should never get to the running back. Backs know to read inside out #hogfbchat
A3: aiming point is the hip... if you can get contact on the near hip that guy gets folded and drifts sideways. It is uncomfortable for him. Stand on side of biggest kid on your team, push them straight in their hip and they will go that way. good way to show kids #hogfbchat
A3) When zone scheme blocking on the down, we teach more hands than shoulders in order to sustain longer. Aim point ends up being hands on breast plate. We have a hand blocking fit we teach in order to be good holders and get job done. #hogfbchat
A3 for example If I’m using severe angle blockingand not varying splits, vs. I techniques I’d utilize more of a lateral step down LOS with inside foot. Almost like a cut off rather than a “down”. #Hogfbchat
A3) We worked hard on trying to get vertical push on the down block this past year. My guys seem to get lazy and allow penetration. Unacceptable! #hogfbchat
A4: Line cones up, on a pulling track. Have players pull and have eyes up, throw a number up and have the players say the number as they turn corner. #HOGFBCHAT
A3) Drive off backside foot, eyes on the inside number, inside hand punch and lift, backside hand club the hip and lift. Vacuum away any space and get hip to hip. After the first two steps it always becomes a base block #hogfbchat
A4: We do a tackling angle drill that we modified to track hips and angles. Square/profile stuff. Never “break down,” always “come to balance.” #hogfbchat
A4. We start by teaching the kids who are getting kicked out proper stem response so they can protect themselves. Also use bag holders a lot in practice. Any way we can keep practice safer and kids healthy for Friday nights. #HogFbChat
Q4: We will pull down boards and just rip thru to indicate proper shoulder and we will skip pull and fit up and drive a player holding a pad #hogfbchat
A4: Well, the easy answer is bags. Actually I think that's my only answer for this one. Defender has the bag, moves on the snap where we want him to go, fit and drive while on the run. #HOGFBCHAT
A4: stand up bag as an aiming point. Work correct path. Also work adjusting path on the fly with moving bat. Don’t try to do a lot of full contact pull drills anymore. #HOGFBCHAT
A4: Didnt do it this year but in years past ive had my guys hold up bag dummies out in space. Pullers run in space and hit with playside shoukder to the bag. #hogfbchat
Q4) I teach a skip pull so the guys always have their shoulders square and heads up. I start with steps on cones, then move to man standing for aiming point then move to man moving with bag. Not a fan of putting guys through more contact than necessary. #Hogfbchat
A4: always have to have a scraping dummy for full contact to the pad. It isn’t flashy but it works. Sometimes I’ll grab a hand shield and play OLB #hogfbchat
A4 in camp we work on our 2 puller fitting to the correct men and with the correct shoulder and give them variations. We just work our path, footwork, and assignments. #hogfbchat
A4) Similar to MMA fighters getting away from sparring I try not to drill pulling anymore as it tends to create more problems than it solves. I only work pull footwork 2-3x/week as part of our warm-up. Use inside period as “live” drilling and review in Wed AM OL film. #hogfbchat
A3) It can vary by DL technique/alignment. If DL is further away and/or likes to penetrate must step flat & get head across to stop penetration & be ready with playside hand to press if DL tries to fight over top. If DL is tighter & crosses quick aim V of neck & press #hogfbchat
A4: i guess my initial instinct is to reject the premiss of the question. If they execute the proper technique taught then they are all "safe" #hogfbchat
Anytime we drill our pulls live, we use heavy bags and/or shields. We want the focus on technique, footwork and angles during drill. We get enough live work in inside run and team #hogfbchat
A4. I use hand shields for the scout guys and cones as landmarks for the pullers. To me pulling is really about footwork and then hand placement on contact-so we still work the drill in close quarters. #HOGFBCHAT
A4) “safe contact?!?!” Ummm... excuse me
We use pads, I really like to work plays on the 6 man sled... can’t wait for our new Tek Sled this fall! #HOGFBCHAT
A4: Anytime we drill our pulls live, we use heavy bags and/or shields. We want the focus on technique, footwork and angles during drill. We get enough live work in inside run and team #hogfbchat
A4: on that drill, same principle that @CoachMacOL talked about during his screen presentation this weekend. Never slow down, never turn and look to see where the ball is. #hogfbchat
A4: Down blocks with a puller to a pop-up, but staying in control focusing on aiming points/pad level/hip angle/footwork and speed. Repping the tech more then the aggressiveness. #HogFbChat
A4: we work all our pulling drills in "control tempo". Not full speed. Work to attack a spot, work aiming point and feet. can use this pulling circuit for power/counter/pinNpull/toss set up guy with bag, vary force looks https://t.co/FNpVfDFUgY#hogfbchat
I love seeing college coaches teach hitting with the shoulder. It’s a bit of validation when I have a parent tell me “I’m doing it wrong.” Lol #hogfbchat
A4 in camp we work on our 2 puller fitting to the correct men and with the correct shoulder and give them variations. We just work our path, footwork, and assignments. #hogfbchat
A4: Picked this up from Alabama https://t.co/XtpHToGAEO love the drill. Will also incorporate 2 more o-linemen and have them practice the down block vs what we will see that week, whether the DL is going to penetrate or spin off the down block. #hogfbchat
A4: being able to cut in space at the college level is huge.. we’ll set up bags and and cut those in space.. also I will set up cones to map the path we want and fit on a bag sometimes too #HOGFBCHAT
A4: We set up cones and use the sled. Most important item we use is a stopwatch. We time their pull. Give them 2.2 to 2.8 topull and get squared up on sled. #hogfbchat
A4: Use other players or standup dummies to practice pulling around and hold up a number making sure kids eyes are up on target, then move to similar drill using a hand shield and a defender mixing up flow and speed to get accustomed to how LBs/defenders might play #hogfbchat
A4) Love pulling to a 1-man sled. To sustain block you must break down before before contact. Agile bag in front of sled for wide base/foot fire. Must be in control or sled will just spin. Also hand shields with pesky scout teamers jumping around to cause confusion. #hogfbchat
A4 pull on bags or even tackling doughnuts to simulate movement and help with cutting if part of the game plan that week, foot work using spray paint lines and trashcan defense for teaching #Hogfbchat
A4: The kick pull we use cones and hand shields. Wrap pulls I love using oversized balls people use to tackle on. It’s a moving target. Basically the same tackle drill except we use our feet. Missed those this past year. #HogFbChat
#HOGFBCHAT A4: 100% against hand shields. Vs DL, we use full flipper technique (pull right, hit right and vise versa). Vs LB, we turn hand shields flat and work getting hands under and lifting as if on breast plate. Belly to belly finish.
A4: we always pull to pop up dummies to avoid collisions. master the footwork, and taking a good path with an excellent base and rep rep rep. you don't gotta kill each other to get solid reps in
#HOGFBCHAT
A2: done! What’d I miss world?... yes we have, and we have not had a problem teaching it the same way as of yet, I’d refer to the @KevinMawae shuffle/rhythm feet technique. I feel it’s been pretty similar. #Hogfbchat
Spend more time focusing on footwork, bags, and hand shields. Main "contact" drill is done during inside run. Most injuries with the Oline come from indy sessions with the lineman only, game situations make them less vulnerable #hogfbchat
To add to this, I've seen OL coaches use the rolling tackling donut dummies for cut blocks but has anyone ever used them for something like pulling drills? #hogfbchat
We will also climb to the second level and hit trees. Yes, actual trees. It helps my guess focus on proper footwork and hand placement without having to worry about a poor bagholder #HOGFBCHAT
A4: We will go 3 at a time and pull/kick the sled as part of our sled routine. During other Indy drills we will use cones for landmarks and hold stand up bags for them to kick. As time goes on we eventually read that bag for a kick/log. #hogfbchat
It really depends on the athleticism of the personnel. I like doing it if we have that rare player. The initial step is not that much different than a wide reach or OZ, getting depth with the second step to set up the pull. #hogfbchat
Hand shields and bags, have the guards pull and kick out and teach proper head/ hand placement and drive, also have tackles swab the holes (I'll give the lbs a direction to go and the tackle either has to pin the lb or drive him on to the outside depending on his path) #hogfbchat
A4 - In the past, we ran it against a 5 man sled. Off set the OL, ran P/P versus different techniques. Teaching rules & down blocks at same time. More reps.
#hogfbchat
Saw it in a webinar somewhere. Loved it as opposed to hand shields- kids on hand shields tend to slow before contact. The kids on Friday nights rarely do #HOGFBCHAT
And that's all she wrote! Thank you all for making Monday nights the best night of the week. If you participated, lurked or just dropped by for a moment we appreciate all you do for the chat! #hogfbchat#AllGasNoBrakes#GoGo
A4 If you mean not contact. I’d say depends on focus. Close space, come to balance, fit and finish? If so, lots of tackling drills can be modified to accomplish with bags.. #Hogfbchat
As always, please remember to follow your fellow coaches for weekly chats and collaborations. This is truly the best profession in the world with some of the best coaches around. #hogfbchat

A3: aim for V of the neck, near hand punch through the chest, far hand and hip close the door. If you’re gonna miss, miss high but if you miss low, it may turn into a rip tech to keep the DL from crossing face #Hogfbchat
If anybody has any questions or topics that they want discussed on the chat, please do not hesitate to DM myself or @CoachDingus with the ideas. #Hogfbchat
Don't forget about the #hogfbchat clinic on March 10th at @RhodesFootball in Memphis! Registration is still open and you do NOT want to miss this clinic! Looking forward to seeing you all down there!

We’d like to thank our official sponsor GameStrat! They provide teams with the most reliable and advanced sideline replay system. Check them out https://t.co/zXhCj3xzd2@GameStrat_#Hogfbchat
A4: For Pull-Lead blocking cones for depth and players w/shields scraping coming downhill to block (thud tempo.) For KO a player holding @OLineWorld65 X Bag. IMO blocking in space is the hardest for the big guys. They've got to be able to move-react ⚒️⚒️#HOGFBCHAT
A4) Would like to use the sled, if not maybe use scout team players. I like using scout team so you can put the live element into it. EVERYTHING IS A COMPETITION #hogfbchat
Correct. So I have the LBers move a few steps laterally (end up about where the contact would happen) & I make the pullers call out the number of fingers (1-5 only) their LBer is holding up (no lower than their chest, no higher than the eyes). #hogfbchat
Skip-pull footwork. Sometimes I’ll work half line for land marks & working around trash. Emphasis is on pull footwork & combos. If the combo gets to BS LB there’s not much but the Mike left for my puller. If the combo is weak the play is no good. #DontBounceThePower#hogfbchat
