Hi, friends! Tisha former HS Culinary Tr turned district Tech Integration Coach in Medford, OR! Excited to steer the #XPLAP ship tonight after a beautiful day on the Oregon coast! LOVE the ocean!
OK #Hivesummit. I've tried registering with three different e-mail addresses. I get the "Almost finished... We need to confirm your email address..." and nothing. Checked spam folders, waited a couple of days, still nothing :( #XPLAP

✨Happy Tuesday, Pirate Crew! I'm Kimberly from NE, and I teach 7th grade ELA. I can't wait for August 1st so I can buzz on over to #HiveSummit and discover all of the treasure-packed PD that will BEE available for FREE! ✨#XPLAP@tishrich@mrmatera@Hive_Summit
Hey #xplap! Louie from Lancaster. Soon to be moving to Philadelphia to teach 5th Grade. #ISTE18 was a blast and excited to make the big move to Philly this year. I've been doing a ton of reading and prep for my new adventure in gamification!
Jay from NE, MS science teacher, Went on vacation with the family to a lake for a week, getting my sons CI surgery this week, working on next years game. So many fun things happening #xplap
Hi #xplap Holly, secondary science teacher and digital designer in the Outer Banks of NC. I've been hitting the beach and saving sea turtles all summer!
Q1: Finishing the year strong often means you start summer exhausted.
What are some ways you rest during the summer?
Bonus XP...share a pic or gif of your favorite resting spot. #xplap
Hi #xplap! Holly former 1st grade teacher /NEW Digital Integration Specialist from Indiana. I have been helping plan @edtechinthebend and co-founded #EdTechDolls this summer!
A1. I've been taking it easy for the most part. Lots of reading. Enjoying walking on the trail by my house! So therapeutic! Went creek stomping with my sisters today. #xplap
A1: Unplugging from school related anything. Silence school email address, log out of G-Suite for Ed, and only do the ed related thing I want to do (blog, Twitter PLN, and accountability time with my "accountabilibuddies") #xplap
A1: The first week is basically hibernation. Get the kids to day-care and sleep a bunch. Batteries are now charged, time to head to the lake, do some golf and eventually start to plan for September. #xplap
A1: THIS is one of my favorite ways to rest! Absolutely love the sounds, smells, and sight of our beautiful Oregon coast! Went for the day today and feel refreshed after a long month of moving homes! #xplap
I live in Kill Devil Hills, NC - and I can see the Atlantic Ocean and the Wright Brothers Memorial (First in Flight) from my house! It's dreamy! Please visit! #XPLAP
A1. Celebrated my fifth anniversary last week with a trip to the beach in Mexico. Read four books and soaked up all sorts of sun. Hard to beat that! #xplap
a1) I usually watch a bunch of Doctor who and read some books. pretty much just unplug from school for the month of june, then ease back into it in July. #xplap
A1: had an awesome road trip up the CA and Oregon coast. Now packing for weeks in Hawaii. Also been playing a lot of new games and working on gamifiying my first unit #XPLAP
A1✨JUST KEEP GOING AND GOING!✨
Resting is a total weakness of mine! My mind is always going, day and night!
Instead, I love surrounding myself with people and passions that energize me! #XPLAP
Q2: Reflecting on the past school year allows us to refine our practice.
What are your favorite ways to reflect during the summer?
Bonus XP... share a link to a blog or place where you share your reflections. #xplap
Thats fantastic 😉 I fell into the same trap when I found the site! Happy meandering in the creaticlve woods. 😁 (here's the post btw) #xplaphttps://t.co/ss6QBhww1q
A1; Sounds horrible, but I've been "resting" by creating new things for class (new student sheets, new narratives, new items, new plac to host everything). This is the time of year when I'm most inspired. #XPLAP
A1: I rest by reading - a LOT of books! This summer, this includes plugging into media book studies, too! It engages my brain in a different way, which recharges my educational battery! #XPLAP
A2: Currently I have a notebook with my sketch notes. It's across the room and I'm too lazy to get up and take a pic of it for all of you. But imagine a composition notebook with washi tape on the cover.
I'd love to start blogging but I have no idea where to start. #xplap
A2: I look through all of the photos I take during the year and think about the lessons/activities they were attached to. I make a video of those pics for my Ss and private link it on YouTube. I've watched it probably 15 times since the end of school #xplap
A2 I have been posting, more to,my blog simce I started reflecting. Hones my 'half-baked' ideas and acts as a digital laundry list I,can,go back and peruse to remember all of the ideas I want to incorporate. If you want to see its at https://t.co/4GYFrLQPOX#xplap
A2. I love the continuous reflection on @voxer with #4ocfpln! Always reflecting on past and future practices.
I've blogged a couple times, but not as much as I always intend to. After I finish all my reading, hope to reflect on these texts! https://t.co/UOG3IP26zD#xplap

Do you work much with Pear Deck? I just became aware of this (what appears to be an) amazing tool and want to know where to start. Any help would be great! #xplap
A2. Back to podcasting and blogging, and I finished the first draft of my first book manuscript. 55 thousand words! Currently getting killer edits and feedback from trusted friends and PLC tribe mates like @MrHExperience. #xplap#steelsharpenssteel

A2 I’ve not started a digital platform of reflection, still hard copy journaling, would like to start a blog but am nervous and unsure of how to start/what to write #XPLAP
a2) I think a lot on long drives. I also do a lot of day dreaming during boring chores such as mowing the lawn. Probably doesn't hurt listening to wellplayed podcasts during that time. #xplap
A2: A lot of my reflection occurred over the final few weeks of school. Now, it's time to refine and explore. Right now I'm looking at reality-game challenges and checking out blogs in the #xplap community for inspiration. https://t.co/ftZOjNb3Xj by @MrPowley is a must!
A2 I pick one major thing to work on every summer, something that needs a major revamp. I will most likely post my process on my blog.
https://t.co/95xnbBYwwk#xplap
A2: I reflect when I collaborate with others over new texts, articles, videos that they share. I immediately add these to my "must incorporate" immediately list! https://t.co/im9bf3X0Ut (blog that is slowly reviving itself!) #xplap
Q3: Summer is a great opportunity to reboot your gamified class.
What are some ideas you have to reboot your game?
Bonus XP...share out a fav resource or source of inspiration.
#xplap
A2 resource: I'm reading several posts with blogging interest, but not knowing where to start. KQED Teach (PBS learning media) has a FREE online at your own pace course that can help #kqedambassadorshttps://t.co/V7QMkS2CQF#XPLAP
A2:✨THINGS TO REMEMBER...✨
During the school year, I keep a Google Doc, extravagently called "Things to Remember" that I quickly jot down things in that I want to revisit or reflect on later!
#XPLAP
A3) this year I'm starting to gamify my second class (Earth Science) I'm thinking of having a civilization type of game. Ss build a city and then try to advance their civilization in the game. Working on the basics now. #xplap
Q3a: Fav. Source of inspiration is eXPlore like a pirate and my new twitter friend @teachlikeaninja who teaches close enough I could visit his classroom (and might) #xplap
Awesome! I love sketchnoting too! Would love to see sometime, but don't get up! Ha! Let me know if I can help you get started blogging! Been such a wonderful source of reflection for me! #xplap
A3. More narrative cohesion, for sure. Every day is game based, but a stronger storyline will help add nuance, immersion, and depth to the game - likewise encouraging more consistent side quest challenge completions and and power-up card usage. #xplap

#xplap
A3: I want to build gamification into my classroom this year, so I'm just going to sit back and watch the answers to Q3 roll in. I need to know where to start. #xplap
a3b) also working on getting my physical science flushed out with more sidequests and practice activities for Ss. Also trying to figure out how to incorporate retaking tests and worrying about large class sizes and new administration. #xplap
I totally would get up but I presented all day at our district PD session and it's all I can do to stay awake for the two chats I'm in. Thanks for understanding and I'll be happy to share my sketches later. #xplap
Awesome! I love sketchnoting too! Would love to see sometime, but don't get up! Ha! Let me know if I can help you get started blogging! Been such a wonderful source of reflection for me! #xplap
A3: My major source of inspiration is @MrPowly's blog https://t.co/QkTO12UV1C As mentined before been working on my narrative and mastery quests #XPLAP
A3: I've put in a bunch of work to have my notes and assignment packages auto-assign grades when complete. Next up: to create "Reality TV" themes for my business classes, complete with "Power-of-Veto" and "Head-of-Classroom" challenges to keep the game fresh. #xplap
A3 I LOVED how my game was going last year. I am curious how this will transfer into the new position. I know others have taken the same step out of the classroom. Ideas? I have already recruited one friend to let me help gamify her class. . . My FAVORITE resource is #Xplap PLN!
Q3b: I am working on gamifying my science course. It's not all the way ready (read so far away from ready) but I have the big idea and some side quests. Not sure about tokens or items though-I can't figure out how to make them fit. #xplap
A2: Blogging is such a wonderful way of reflecting. I have so many lined up to write. Very therapeutic for me! I've grown so much since I've started. Here's my latest post: Fear is a Liar https://t.co/oTM1rLVBgt#xplap
Wow! Another action packed 30 min of inspiration and ideas!
Thanks for all you do to make this community so great! We appreciate you!
Enjoy summer and see you next week!
Bonus XP...share out a goodbye gif #xplap
My advice is just start. Do it for you. Don't worry about it being perfect. It's been such an incredible journey for me and I've found I actually LOVE to write. #xplap
I signed up for #hivesummit too! We need to get an #xplap digital meet up of some sort out together! That seems like the best part of most conferences.
A3: I can’t remember who it was, maybe @MrPowley, but I love the idea of having items that activate other items. I want to add more connected items in my game. Like an energy orb that activates something else. #xplap

#xplap
A3: Moving out of the culinary classroom is going to be such a huge change for me. I would like to #gamify PD in our district. My wheels are turning! #xplap
A3✨BRING ON THE XP✨
#ISTE18 offered many sessions to reboot the gamified classroom! Here is the link to an incredible session by @mrmatera and @Mr_JSpike on Mini-Games! I'm beyond excited to try them with my students! https://t.co/ocZ30hkXnV#XPLAP
A2: As I read various PD books, I record my thoughts about I am currently doing, what I want/need to do more, and things I want to add or change in the upcoming year. #xplap
Thats what I did with blogging. Nothing scarier than that first blank screen. It takes a bit to find your voice. I always imagined I was writing for my future self. #xplap
Excellent! You could join the #xplap voxer book study if you want. We hope to continue collab throughout the year! @hollysking, @debbiejholman and myself are pretty new. @MrsLedford6Eng is the pro and super helpful!

Mine is no where near ready. I have it sketched out but I think I need to write it out, or list it out, or something. This will be my first time with it and it feels too loose. #xplap
I’m on the same boat. It can be pretty overwhelming at first, especially when you try to understand how the different mechanics are interdependent. The great thing is that we have the #XPLAP community to support us. If I can help in any way, feel free to reach out! :)

You'll always run into things you want to change, but that's the beauty of it. Your students don't know how to play your game. You can add rules all you want. Try things out. I usually got student feedback each quarter. They have a lot of great ideas. #xplap
