Before we begin, please introduce yourself and remember to always include the hashtag #edchatie in all tweets!
Darren Instructional Coach, Podcaster/Blogger from VA, A1:#edchatie I am currently brain-deep in @VisibleLearning Culturally Responsive Teaching, and am very interested in change theory.

looking forward to tonight's #edhatie discussion on "What educational theories (if any) inform your practice as a teacher?"
#edchatie It comes with the territory. As a coach, I'm working with several methodologies. Those happen to be my current favorites. I also like Understanding by Design.
SET, National School, Mayo. I can't say I'm conscious of any educational theories in my teaching, now our at any time since qualifying... What should I be considering? #edchatie
Nell Noddings care ethic. Her book 'Caring a feminine approach to ethics' is a great starting point and despite the title not gender specific! #edchatie
#edchatie Laurence Cuffe, Joining late. I teach math, and one of the more obscure theories I'd use would be VanLehn's Repair theory. Its just using mistakes to get an insight int wrong thinking

Hi all. Ailbhe, primary teacher Dublin here. I suppose Vygotsky's theory of scaffolding would be ingrained in my teaching. Leading to deeper understanding/ great independence in the classroom is at the end of the day what we aim hope to achieve in education #edchatie#edchatie

#edchatie The thing that really helped me with scaffolding, was the extension of the metaphor. You put up the scaffolding to assist with the build, then you take it down. Scaffolds are not permanent structures....
Have also used SOLO (not the movie) when writing Learning Outcomes.
SOLO = Structure of the Observed Learning Outcomes

I got into her work when doing my H dip but still use a lot of her theories even today. In adult ed. I think it is integral to 'second chance education' a phrase I despise because quite often the learners I encounter never really had the opportunity for 'first chance' ed
#edchatie working in further education #fet the theory that inform my teaching practice is probably Carl Rogers -authenticity and unconditional positive regard are essential when working with adults imo
An excellent book I read which shifted my mindset a bit in class was 'Clarity in the Classroom' by @MichaelAbsolum.
Restorative Justice theory and training also had a huge impact.
We're now looking at trauma awareness and getting training in this in term 2.

Very true, Vygotsky's zone of proximal development also also easily be applied in primary ed., learning when students are challenged in ways that sit within targets, but just beyond their current or existing understandings. #edchatie
Mags, late in as University Challenge was a cliffhanger tonight. Two shouts from me
1 Cooperative Learning - the Johnson’s model of social interdependence which I found invaluable
2 this Learning Theories map from @RichardMillwoodhttps://t.co/zSYvM9oBUx
#edchatie I did two podcasts, one on restorative practice, and one on trauma informed work. Here's a link to my page if you're interested: https://t.co/LYiQlZDff5
"Sure it's a great life, teachers only work from 9-3.30"... just walked in the door from work right now (21:13). Plenty more I could do but clocking off for the night. Arrived in school at 8am this morning. Oh yeah, definitely a short day alright 💁🏼♀️👀 #edchatie#teacherlife
Yup, the idea that you might be able to understand someone else's thinking...in an objective way Very much against the Husserl phenomenological tradition #edchatie
Thanks Irene... I was racking my brain there trying to remember where to find that. Shown this when completing M.Ed. but for couldn't remember how to find it. Such an excellent resource for anyone undertaking any ed. research on any level! #edchatie
I also like Sybyll Marshals work on learning plans.. A great champion of learning as a dynamic activity rather than as a scripted performance. #edchatie

Privatisation of education provision (ESL and otherwise) highlights precarity and lack of basic care and respect for students and staff. Another 'glorious' moment for 'edubusiness'. Solidarity with students and staff. @Education_Ire#graftoncollege#edchatie
Thanks for taking part, Darren, and sharing in tonight's #edchatie discussion all about "What educational theories (if any) inform your practice as a teacher?"
#edchatie Very late Paul O'Donnell primary teaching Co. Meath. Heavy topic! Cognitive load theory making a lot of noise at the minute. Make It Stick The Science of Successful Learning has lots of practical techniques that transfer to the classroom to consolidate learning.
We're into the famous final five minutes of tonight's #edchatie discussion on "What educational theories (if any) inform your practice as a teacher?"
Any last thoughts, theories, ideas, challenges or solutions?
Helmut Von Motke? Prussian General "No Plan of Battle survives contact with the enemy" I really believe education is a dynamic conversation, not a set piece... #edchatie
