#sschat is a network of educators, resources, and ideas that started on Twitter, but has expanded to Facebook, an annual NCSS unconference, and more. Join us to chat asynchronously on Twitter or Facebook, or chat with us live on Mondays from 7-8pm EST.
Justin, current student at Hope College, student teacher at Cedar Springs HS MI, I am in the midst of reading The Courage to Teach and am finding many questions coming out of it. #sschat
I took a class last year based entirely on the C3 framework, so I am interested to see how teachers have included this into their units. Especially in a school where students don't have their own technology device. #sschat
A2 Ss are challenged to come up the worst question possible. This gets their attention! But, what they end up doing is creating the most unique, personal questions. #sschat
A3: a technique I am stealing from my mentor teacher is a question box on the board. He uses this for students to ask any question they have from the previous night's reading. Students can ask up to 3 questions to start the discussion. #sschat
A3 Ss are exposed to diverse perspectives by revealing bits of information like a soap opera. Lots of characters and lots of drama! Ss start to see the interconnected web of history. #sschat
Just wondering if Ss have to understand before self driven activities. Perhaps that's where they make the most meaning, struggling through with peer and T guidance? #sschat
I use concept based unit design and incorporate an independent research project into each. Ex: conflict, we study the wars in the curriculum but Ss then research any conflict of interest + present to peers #sschat
