-
Excited to have you back!!!
-
-
Hi Deborah! Always great to see you!
-
I just pulled in a few minutes ago from work-long day! https://t.co/K5qDnxAUWk
-
-
I didn't get the usual invitations for out today.
-
Hey Spiri...where in PA are you?
-
Thought "role models" would be a good topic in light of the U.S. political arena these days. ;)
-
Thanks Sara. Always nice to see you as well...
-
I always start with a Tidbit. Here's tonight's...
-
Tidbit: Among other things, a role model is someone who inspires, someone who we would like to be like, someone we admire.
-
Hi Rob...hope all is well.
-
Stroudsburg, PA AKA the Poconos
-
We'll need about 6 hours to tackle this one...
-
-
At this point I'm wondering what it would take to get to run! HA!
-
We will start with some basics...
-
Q1: Why is it important to have role models or to be a role model?
-
-
A1: Having a role model gives us something to aspire to; being a role model means we're inspiring another.
-
A1 My role model was my father. He taught me how to be honest, ethical and have integrity.
-
I believe that being able to place "trust" in role models is an essential component as well. https://t.co/UtCTmHTvMu
-
-
Tidbit: Among other things, a role model is someone who inspires, someone who we would like to be like, someone we admire.
-
A1 I hope in turn I am a role model for being a strong, resourceful woman. Also for being kind, generous and compassionate.
-
Let's move on and feel free to answer any questions...
-
-
Q2: Who is one of your role models--why?
-
A1 children look to the adults in their lives for guidance affirmation and love
-
A1 Because of my father, I have high standards. He wasn't perfect by a long shot but his values were important to me.
-
So true!! I am so glad that you included LOVE--so important
-
A1) Love showing my girls & Ss that it's okay to be a math/science/tech nerd, embrace you and enjoy passions to fullest
-
A1 Explains why I didn't get married until I was 35. I wasn't going to settle.
-
A1 Settle down, yes. Settle, no.
-
Free flowing it tonight! Answer as you see fit. Here's Q2. 2/29/16 https://t.co/iojAEpJmJQ
-
-
Q2: Who is one of your role models--why?
-
A2: Does a lot w wounded warriors and doing great things to better communities.
-
A2: One = A former employer who has since passed away -- she taught me how to be a woman in business.
-
-
I think it's impt. to recognize although someone has areas of growth, there can be other areas that shine!
-
Great to see you, Faige!!!
-
I'd have to say my dad as well to start- He had been such a responsible man to so many for so long. Turns 90 in Nov.
-
Yes! (How you doing Adam?)
-
I challenge myself all the time in that regard. With a nod to my husband. He's been very patient with me.
-
-
I don't see the questions
-
I have a number of teachers that I have always regarded as role models.
-
Amazing Rob. What a gift for you to still have him. A true gift...
-
Teachers and parents are often important role models in our formative yrs
-
Oh no!! Let me see if I can repost...
-
Welcome AJ! I concur, he walks the walk!
-
This happens sometimes. Q2 = who is one of your role models & why.
-
Q1: Why is it important to have role models or to be a role model? .
-
I had two Sara. They remain role models even after all these years...
-
A2 My husband is a great role model always sees the positive side
-
Q2: Who is one of your role models--why?
-
A1:This journey called life can be so difficult to navigate it is always good to have someone to help us along the way
-
A2 so many wonderful people in my life that have inspired, engaged, challenged, cheered on, loved,
-
A2 I pick and choose different qualities from different people. Don't want to be disappointed by unrealistic expectations.
-
So true, important to remember that 4 stds their parents are big influences in their lives as well. https://t.co/9hSxf5d3DR
-
-
Teachers and parents are often important role models in our formative yrs
-
Next question coming...this is no time to be humble on ;)
-
A2 Had a professor in grad school who was a mentor to me. Kind of a dutch uncle. A bit stern but for my own good.
-
Q3: What would others say it is that you do or what attribute do you embrace that is a role model for others?
-
-
A2) Rosalind Franklin, fantastic scientist, she was a behind the scenes lady
-
-
A1 I like to think of being a role model/mentor as a "pay it forward" paradigm. Mine inspired & guided. Gr8 2be able 2do so
-
-
My principal is one of my role models. He is tireless, forward-thinking and inspirational
-
My grandmothers were both role models for me, taught me about hard work, sacrifice, value of education, love of reading,
-
Being stern and firm is often a gift in the proper context.
-
A2 When I told him back in the early 80s that I was a Jew first and American second, he told me never to say that to anyone
-
-
Sara and all...welcoming my new colleague to chat. This is her first chat (and a good one at that).
-
I love "behind the scenes" folks.
-
A@: Also my oldest brother Dr. Tomas Martinez- suffered w/polio as a child, yet is a professor at
-
A2: is another role model because she has an unshakable belief that she can conquer ANY obstacle
-
Hey Tom! Great to see you in tonight!
-
A2 Given what's going on right now in this country that was very sage advice.
-
-
Role models over the yrs change as I changed & found my road in my journey. Not stagnant. Recognize impact & influence
-
A young man I taught that I ran into 15 years later said "you really gave a s#^*.. I really liked that about you"
-
-
Tonight's Q3. 2/29/16 https://t.co/1s1ik7v61n
-
-
Q3: What would others say it is that you do or what attribute do you embrace that is a role model for others?
-
It was the exact right context. I needed to learn to be circumspect.
-
YAY!! Welcome welcome welcome!!
-
A3: I am a very good listener and I do not judge people. That's not my job to judge people but I can offer advice
-
-
A3) I'd say helpful I'm always jumping in to help someone/something I try to let others know Im willing to help
-
I agree. Role models can definitely depend on circumstances.
-
Many have said, I stay calm. My tone, my focus, my ability to find and implement solutions even in harrowing times.
-
So glad you are joining us at !!!
-
People credit me with patience, I try!
-
A3: Others would say that I am an eternal optimist.
-
This is all from my perspective as second generation American. And having experienced antisemitism.
-
Thanks to her Watson & Cricket determined structure of DNA, love when it's about the WORK not the FAME
-
-
A3: Advocacy, empowering/educating others, and being unrelenting in helping those who are marginalized succeed.
-
A3 My resilience, my positive attitude. Some would say when they we're in a quandary "What would Faige do? Laughed & honored
-
OK...let's get into some interesting territory with Q4...
-
A3: I'm like my mom. There's an old Energizer🔋Commercial of a🐰 powered by🔋"it just keeps going and going and going."
-
Thank you . Happy to be here.
-
Love it! I say the same about my mom!
-
Q4: How is the U.S. political scene this election yr. contributing to or detracting to positive role modeling?
-
A3 Others say I am a warrior. I have been baptized by fire. That is for damned sure.
-
A3 I try to look for the good in everyone and every situation
-
Q4 - And it is a doozy! No holds barred! https://t.co/nvph1FClnH
-
-
Q4: How is the U.S. political scene this election yr. contributing to or detracting to positive role modeling?
-
A4: Could I respond first by saying...oy vey.
-
Many of the stories you have shared on have shown that!
-
Many of the stories you have shared on have shown that!
-
A3: In other words, I have consistent habits.
Reinforced by that 📚 from the 2000s.
-
Thinking if 1 has a strong identification w/resilience positive attitude is at core 4them. It is 4me https://t.co/hmqyWE5CPt
-
-
A3: Others would say that I am an eternal optimist.
-
A3: I hope I show that hard work pays off and that we can make a difference in people's lives.
-
-
A1) Politicians & role models should not be in same sentence
-
A4: It's challenging parents to explain some of what children are seeing/hearing. Some candidates are pushing the margins.
-
-
BTW--good to see you here at again!
-
-
A4: mudslinging is not good role modeling.
-
Q4 I think politicians have hit an all time low in public opinion. Seem willing to do or say whatever to get what they want.
-
-
You've got a point there... Actually, there are some good ones out there...somewhere...
-
-
A4: Makes young people think that you can be mean, immature, and dishonest and be successful which isn't true
-
hahaha Rob! Good Lord don't get me started
-
I just can't imagine what some Ss are going to do as they run for office in their schools?!
-
I've been told that by tough guys, too. Guys who are, ahem, affiliated. Even before cancer.
-
A4 I think it's more the media & what's easily accessible to our Ss the 'hype' not the experience is forming their opinion
-
...and how does bullying and debating differ????
-
A4 I think the politicians in both parties have for the most part have lost their moral compass!
-
"eternal" such an interesting word.
-
Yeah, Good luck finding them! Good luck with that!
-
Really means something coming from guys who have experienced life on the street.
-
...that's an understatement for sure!
-
Can you give a few examples? I hope they're not following the lead of many of these candidates...
-
-
A4 It seems that the candidates are seeking to play to the lowest common denominator, rather than ideals and integrity!
-
Pretty pathetic and sad, isn't it? Not to mention scary!
-
Agreed. And it teaches our kids that anything goes. Where is integrity?
-
A4 being Canadian you would think it has little effect - you'd be wrong- so much American TV we see it all
-
You have a good point. I think media plays such a big role.
-
-
And yet, some Young folks might actually identify this boorish behavior to be worthwhile to emulate. https://t.co/NQDOYjzGqu
-
-
A4: Makes young people think that you can be mean, immature, and dishonest and be successful which isn't true
-
Well said Rob...I agree completely.
-
Haven't heard anything about our future, just about who's a liar & who has a spray tan Ridiculous
-
I actually worked in the legislature in NY and met some politicians who were "in it" for the right reasons.
-
And isn't *this* a frightening thought (and reality)...
-
-
A4 We've become ppl that does or say anything 2win an election. We r showing sts only winning matters. Is that really us!
-
...and I apologize for all you see... so sorry...
-
REALLY? Where are they now? Do they want to be President?
-
My kids think it's nuts its like entertainment to watch debates which is not what it should be
-
Yes, this is what I worry about.
-
-
A4 You've got Bernie Sanders modeling integrity and authenticity. And then you've got the GOP modeling lack thereof.
-
It's a sad commentary - we are these days & what our Ss are seeing w/the political process.
-
That's just a part of all Political campaigns. But these are just embarrassing.
-
I don't think it's accurate or fair to lump all politicians in with those exhibiting boorish behavior. Trump is only one.
-
-
I concur! If just one "normal-minded" individual showed up, you think they could jump to the lead! https://t.co/HbAYpK1L2l
-
-
REALLY? Where are they now? Do they want to be President?
-
You got my hopes up! Just might move to that Canadian island, welcoming Americans if Trump gets into office
-
hahaha we gave you you gave us - does that make us even?
-
Mine is old enough to know better as we focused on politics before this insanity ensued. Guidance needed.
-
This weighs heavily on my mind! In a family that has democrats & republicans I shudder, thinking of my grandkids
-
Last Thursday I went to a Bernie Sanders rally. I was blown away by how many millenials were looking up to him.
-
Q5 is something to respond to In light of what is going on in politics
-
At least during Obama's time they were more civilized. The whole KKK+ AntiMuslims is just un🇺🇸
-
Q5: What have you said to your children or Ss about how candidates are conducting themselves during this election season?
-
-
This does have a pretty good ring to it, Now, that's an idea!
-
A4 Not all so scary. The Democrats have positive role models.
-
Yes, as I said earlier, I worked in the legislature in NY in my early yrs and met some great politicians.
-
Absolutely Faige, Very sad what (who) we're left to vote on They are not worthy
-
Tonight's Q5, 2/29/16----Hey look it's of https://t.co/iFZBrCeLbT
-
-
Q5: What have you said to your children or Ss about how candidates are conducting themselves during this election season?
-
Agreed Shabana. It's almost as if there are no lines anymore. Commentary on life.
-
Trump may be the one w/boorish behavior but the others have their own disdainful baggage
-
My niece thinks you are a God for giving us Justinbieber!
-
Amen to that. Also as you grow, your goals grow bigger accordingly! Not everyone can tag along. :)
-
Q5: Have talked about socialism, racism, and how running a biz is not the same as running a country.
-
A5: Mine is a young adult so knows the realities as we spent time on politics when he was in school.
-
Guidance is good--and important during this election. A teachable moment--or two or three
-
A5 Not much. But I think that Kid O is pretty perceptive. She can tell who is authentic and who is not.
-
-
It is really nuts! You can't make this stuff up!!
-
Well said. If ever there were teachable moments for parents & teachers, it's now.
-
Amen to that. Also as you grow, your goals grow bigger accordingly! Not everyone can tag along. :) https://t.co/gBhajz7bmi
-
-
Role models over the yrs change as I changed & found my road in my journey. Not stagnant. Recognize impact & influence
-
-
Does anyone else wonder what people abroad think? About us?
-
Yes, I think about this all the time.
-
A5 My adult kids grew up in a staunch democratic household,w/qs & concerns. Grandkids are young & I always put in my 2cents
-
This election season you may want to put in 4 cents!! ;)
-
Debra, so true. And then Ss! How does a T explain?
-
A5a) In all honesty, family doesn't watch TV, so my kids are unaware, don't speak politics w/ 3rd Gr Ss
-
Although they might be the future President🇺🇸that's not actually appropriate.
-
Good to know it's not just me. Sometimes I just shake my head in disbelief.
-
"Hail to the Rob, he's , and should be hailed to" Becoming more of a real possibility!
-
Q6 bringing it back to resilience on ...
-
All the time. I want to cry that's not really us
-
The rest of the world is laughing at us I think.
-
Q6: How are role models and resilience connected?
-
iKnow! It's almost like a Parody but it's actually real.😱Like an alternate🌎.
-
-
A5b) I think my kids would be ashamed of the candidates like I am, most powerful country, these clowns arent worthy to lead
-
...while we are crying...
-
Either that, or they're questioning our integrity, ethics, etc.
-
-
Like I said, you can't make this stuff up!! Comedy shows are having a playday!
-
Something like sleeping with strange bedfellows
-
BTW - only my mom calls me Shabana.
-
-
A6: Role models show us that life has ups and downs, wins and losses, yet they adapt and stay the course.
-
A6: Role models should teach us to never give up - if you work hard enough you can accomplish anything.
-
-
A6 When we invest in we give of ourselves, & w/hope there is , that helps build
-
We all need role models when times get tough
-
A6 When I think of my role models without a doubt I see their strong resilience in the face of adversity/hardships
-
A5: Remarkably my ss are the ones critiquing the candidates
-
No worries. Literally no one calls me by my name. My peers in GradSchool set that standard.
-
How would you explain to Ss that a candidate that drops out of the race is expressing his/her resilience?
-
A6) They keep on going, doing good, spreading kindness no matter what comes their way
-
You cannot pull the wool over the eyes of Ss. They see it all!
-
What gets me is the younger Ss have no . Ss💭this is normal.
-
Thank you for a timely conversation tomorrow is Super Tuesday. Back to OY VEY
-
-
I know! It's crazy! How do we teach about not bullying when this is going on?
-
Great question. I believe it shows that they know themselves and plan to use their passion elsewhere.
-
-
-
-
Q7: What will you do tomorrow as a result of today?
-
Why we/parents & educators, need to show them difference. Compare/contrast.
-
Miss Jameel or Dear. Although Hon is becoming the norm, too.
-
-
When Trump was first running, I dubbed him He's become much scarier than that.
-
A6 Wanting to make a difference in the world is noble, no shame in trying
-
SO true! I really wanted to study AntiBullying at Harvard. It's a systemic prob
-
-
I think they're saying maybe it's not for me now, I'll keep working on it & jump back in when I'm better
-
Closing in on our hour together Q7: 2/29/16 https://t.co/YY9d50Xlwk
-
-
Q7: What will you do tomorrow as a result of today?
-
A7 will think about whether I am a role model for others. May rewatch Josh Shipp video
-
Such a prblm! We need to do better yet w/what Ss are seeing, it makes it hard.
-
-
-
Another great on a timely subject. I am always so grateful to all of you for joining in!
-
-
A7 Keep on trucking. Gonna work on GOTV in near future.
-
A7: Remember that even we as role models have "those days" yet we keep on...keeping on, right?
-
Looking ahead, I plan to work to communicate with those I work with regarding my , , to them!
-
iHonestly think MeanGirls 🎥should be a part of JrHigh Curriculum.
-
Super Tuesday tomorrow. Should be interesting...let's all tap our own resilience!
-
thank you both for my first chat!

-
-

Very kind of you Deb! Thank you! Brought a smile to my cheeks! https://t.co/OSySyz5dha
