Tonight we are pleased to have as our guest as he leads us in a Special Teams
-
SPT important. It's all about finding the right guys. Some coaches say "starters" I'm about guys who want to play on SPT.
-
will lead the way, but please feel free to ask him any questions you have regarding Special Teams
-
-
-
Chris Fisher here! OL coach at Ridge Point HS, organizer and creator of all things
-
-
Coaches, how do you get kids to buy in to play on Special Teams?

We do it by coaching it up with as much detail and importance as our individual position

Jason Sims. HC/AD Childress HS. Childress TX
-
A1 make it a priority so the kids will see the importance. If you only hit it vs air mid week for 5 mins kids won't care
-
A1 dedicate meeting time, organize scout teams, prepare a scouting report, tag in hudl for special teams, kids will take notice.
-
Awesome. Our approach is centered on creating an collective identity. Last year's theme was Consistent Dominance
-
A1 The HC needs to be involved and it needs to be emphasised through out the program. Play starters and give rewards.
-
if you make it a priority then they will too.
-
yes! we put our best 11 on the field as much as possible for each unit and give helmet stickers for ST goals
-
Logan Simmons, WR/STC, Hillsboro HS, TX
-
we don't play as many starters, but I agree. I look for guys who can do the job.
-
We also make our Qbs go through special teams circuit during the spring with everyone else.Sets the tone that no one is above ST
-
How did you reinforce your theme throughout the season?
-
-
first was making sure the kids understood our standard, but we had themes each week.
-
Make sure you use the hashtag in your tweets for all responses to be seen!
-
no doubt. They are the want too players!
-
that's a mentality we try to adopt as well. Our kids care about special teams.
-
Quote: It is a starting position on our team. Just as important as O or D https://t.co/ghjuVjSOuN

-
We also give them the reasons or what we call the "why" behind the importance of Special Teams.
-
GREAT POINT https://t.co/zOy1jwoluL
-
-
You can easily spot a Punt Team and KO Coverage kid in practice. Playing the game hard matters to him.
-
I try to get the QB's working on holding and such as well!
-
We make our QB's work as personal protectors. Gives us more leverage on fakes and keeps them engaged. They are leader
-
I had a coach ask about how we develop installs for SPT. We use phase based teaching to breakdown each facet.
-
LATE!! Honey do list = no bueno. Phillip Blacha, OL, Brookland-Cayce high
-
for example on punt return. Alignment & Assignment. Fit & Release. Trail & Finish. Allows for more detailed teaching & drills.
-
Danny Dudgeon offensive line Abilene Cooper
-
How much time will you spend on each phase?
-
I like to be efficient. We will do a circuit, with multiple coaches and can get enough reps in a 12 min period.
-
If you're joining in late, welcome! We are talking special teams with . Share what you do!
-
It is how we start every practice with a specialty circuit and an emphasis each day on a specific special team
-
anyone have insight on installs? Or how you organize them?
-
do you work every unit every day? What is your typical game week prep schedule?
-
How do you install your special teams? Share with coach! https://t.co/IVL4qtMVKL

-
anyone have insight on installs? Or how you organize them?
-
we usually have two a day. Tues - P/PR. Wed - KO/P. Th - KOR/FG&Block. Fri - All
-
we do coverage teams one day and returns teams the next. We use Thursday for a scripted walk through
-
do you change your return schemes weekly?
-
we are very similar. Try to get everybody moving in a period.
-

-
-
our install happens through 2-a-days. We install basics for 1 team a day. Start with punt and go from there
-
https://t.co/ciUWpe2XpE
-
-
we do based on who is the key block to spring a big play or may have to adjust based on who is safety
-
We work our punt return and fg block into team defense. Leaves plenty of time to work the other 4 majors throughout the week
-
We change based on who is safety for them or if there's a kid we can easily kick
-
-
like it. Found small adjustments work better than sweeping changes.
-
No, we want to allow our kids to be really good at 1 thing just alter how we do to https://t.co/IpsBXKhQdS

-
do you change your return schemes weekly?
-
thanks for being here! still time to share and/or ask Coach a question!
-
how much time do specialists (K,P,LS) have to work during practice?
-
have them work with our s & c coach during non special teams period. I also have a script for them to follow.
-
so that they can record their kicks/snaps/punts
-
expectation is they are there the entire practice.
-
How do others approach Specialists? K's P's and LS's?
-

How do others approach Specialists? K's P's and LS's?
-
Our K/P will practice on his own and come when called. He is given a script and workout. Our LS has a position
-
If you want to play, you should be willing to play what you're asked https://t.co/oFT8ayC1ag
-
-
you can't stay for us unless you play a special team. Easy sell if you are platooning
-
exactly the same process for us.
