The #TXLchat provides a forum for Texas librarians (but not limited to Texas librarians) to create collaborative connections, share educational resources, and foster life-long learning.
A1: I'd like to reboot my collaboration with teachers after the holidays. Also, I want to host the student teachers for an info session to welcome them and share resources and collaboration options. #collaboration#txlchat
A1: I saved my page-a-day quotes to let my Ts and Ss choose a new attitude for the new year! Seventh grade even used some as a quick write prompt! #txlchat
A1: I'd like to reboot my collaboration with teachers after the holidays. Also, I want to host the student teachers for an info session to welcome them and share resources and collaboration options. #collaboration#txlchat
A2–I start by asking all my librarian friends for their ideas after I tell them abt my first attempt. Or, sometimes, I just keep tweaking until I get it right. #mybrainwontstopbrainstorming#txlchat
A1)1st semester in middle school is under my belt, so now there are ALL THE THINGS I want to reboot. Mostly I've learned that I need to front load Ss with tech basics, bc a lot of my frustration has been in that I can't get through lessons bc I'm teaching copy/paste. #txlchat
A2: I am constantly reflecting on lessons and getting feedback from Ts. I try to make adjustments if I am repeating the lesson with other classes. #txlchat
A1: I would like to re-acquaint myself with some of the state reading lists and national book awards. I feel like I have my favorites and haven't really branched out and explored those outside my faves in awhile, and with award season among us, this is perfect timing. 😉 #txlchat
A2: I write in my journal so I can go back and look at it for the next year. If something doesn't go right, afterwards I write ideas on ways to change it. #txlchat
Wow. We only have two lunches, an hour each, so students have lots of extra time. We set up tables with diff. activities ...some just take and do... sometimes for learning, sometimes for destressing. #txlchat
Q2 The first step and hardest is to admit something is not working. Step 2 is asking your audience (Ts or Ss) for suggestions. Step 3 is to reboot. #txlchat
#txlchat Yes, we forget that there are some skills that have to be explicitly taught. Video tutorials are great for some of those pieces. Point of need, can be on you website.
A2: Laugh it off and see where it went wrong. I do a lot with technology and something is bound to fail. A lot of times one mistake can take you in a new direction you never thought of before. #txlchat
So true! You're all excited to get to the what and the what if, and the students are stuck on the logistics of how-to! It's nice to have a re-set #txlchat
A2: I do a lot of journaling, and it helps in the moment to jot down my thoughts and to look back at it later and reflect on what went on, how I felt and from there explore ways to improve. I also like sending out surveys to get feedback from involved parties (Ss, Ts). #txlchat
A2 When I need help when I falter, I have a wonderful co-librarian with amazing creativity and project mgmt skills. Getting new eyes on things helps! #txlchat
A2: I’m not about reinventing the wheel, so if something’s not working I pinpoint that aspect & rework whatever I’m trying to accomplish. Everything I do is a work in progress - no matter how finished/polished I think it is! #txlchat#punkrocklibrarian
A3–I always appreciate evaluating our whys, library advocacy, relationship building, and how to evaluate my services in relation to my students academic and overall performance. #TXLChat
A3-Everything is a potential resource! Prof journals, my #txlchat#pln, conferences I attend, books I read, even FREE online webinars. No excuses for not finding something to support!
A2 When I need help when I falter, I have a wonderful co-librarian with amazing creativity and project mgmt skills. Getting new eyes on things helps! #txlchat
A3: I'm looking forward to TCEA & TLC Conferences to learn from the best! And TXLchat always teaches me something. I'm also going to read more on Design Quality and #noteandnotice with the teachers. #txlchat
A2) Admit defeat! Sometimes showing kids that you can fail gracefully is as important of a life lesson as the lesson/project! But then look at what went wrong and start with a new approach. #txlchat
A3: Inspiration definitely helps me reboot and refresh. TLA, TCEA, and also webinars. Mentors have become more important to me the last few years too. #txlchat
An HOUR?! How glorious! Ours are 25 min each! Now that you’ve clarified the timing, it makes sense that you have something creative for your students to do during that HOUR! #txlchat#punkrocklibrarian
N- A3 Jumping in a bit late to the party but I know I need more work on my GoogleSuite. I’ve been focused on Microsoft since we’re a M365 District but now we’re slowly transitioning to Chromebooks so I want to be more knowledgeable #txlchat
A3: I'm really enjoying the @TxASL Lunch and Learn series!! There are tons of great webinars being offered this spring by different groups that I'm hoping to partake in. I also love perusing Twitter, increasing my PLN and learning from other movers and shakers. #txlchat
A3 I need to improve my use of social media and increase my promotion of other people's work... (as well as my own). I believe in reciprocal support for/with others. #txlchat

So true! It’s hard when you’ve worked hard on something to realize it didn’t go as expected. Don’t be discouraged b/c there is always room for improvement -even in successful programs/lessons. #txlchat
A3: Looking forward to participating in Twitter chats to gain new ideas. Since I am in my last semester I feel more comfortable participating. #txlchat
A3: I am going to dive into the @aasl Standards once my book arrives (recently ordered for me)! I want to learn them well enough to share with fellow librarians in my district. #txlchat
A1 / I'd like to take a closer look at awards I follow and take a closer look at which are of real interest (based on usage statistics) to #txst@TXSTCOE students and refresh this list I'm VERY proud of!
https://t.co/YOCnM8aFwX#txlchat
A3) I can't wait for TLA because that's always helpful, but I would really love the Lone Star Books website to be more like the Bluebonnet website, bc that is a very good tool in getting kids excited to read. #txlchat
A4–continue to have my students & teachers evaluate my lessons. Press the teachers for real & constructive feedback abt whether my content actually fulfilled what they needed. Continue to analyze my use of #AASL standards as I use them in my programming and instruction. #txlchat
A4 In my district, we do monthly "Principal Protocol" where we create a report focusing on a different standard & analyze what we do & how to improve. Circulation data is included too. So reflection is an ongoing (& useful) practice. #TXLCHAT
A3: continue to learn, collaborate, create, reflect and accept feedback for what works and what needs reworking! #twitterchats help with a lot of this! #txlchat#punkrocklibrarian
A4: Work with my mentor to learn as much as I can about the ins and outs of running a library. Looking at reports to see about collection building and how everything comes together. #txlchat
Karina here from the RGV a bit late to the party! 😬 A1: I need to reboot library programming. I try to tackle so much and let some things slip. #txlchat
A4 It’s not so much about data, more reflection, but I need to evaluate where I’m putting the most effort and how beneficial it is. Might need to reprioritize. #txlchat
A4 Web analytics/Paper.li reports can be disheartening. I try to keep my focus on the positive feedback I receive. I keep a file with "successes." This is essential for me on the days when it seems my work isn't reaching my target audience. #txlchat

A5: From a grad student perspective, I've become a bit obsessed with collecting and analyzing data. 😆 Data provides crucial information that can help make informed decisions and identify trends and gaps in your line of work. Use it for good and growth. #txlchat
A5 Good PD ideas for staff, work smarter not harder library hacks, community building projects, collaboration across districts, reading incentives past AR #txlchat
#txlchat And it's a teaching piece for admin. They see our standards & how we are (& aren't) meeting them. After my last report, my principal is helping me find ways to meet w/ teachers to discuss collaboration.
A4: my plan is to meet with different curriculum PLCs to see where we can assist with learning/literacy growth and go from there! My co-librarian and I have already got the ball rolling! #txlchat#punkrocklibrarian

A5: Interested in how to keep things exciting when you see a group of students for three years. Worries me that they would get bored of what I have to offer. #txlchat

A5: Helpful hints on implementing standards or just a review of them. We have fabulous new Texas & National standards. Also- look at the Crosswalks with state and national and hs-college #txlchat
A5: how libraries - specifically HS Libraries - are using @Flipgrid & @GetKahoot! We are trying, but without teacher buy-in (read: a teacher that will let us use those platforms w/ their Ss) we can’t utilize either to their fullest potential! #txlchat#punkrocklibrarian
Agreed! Carolyn. All teaching is really about faith that you've planted a seed that may grow at some time in the future - whether or not your ever know about it. Whew! Tough for me sometimes so reminders are necessary. Thank you... #txlchat
#txlchat Each month a different AASL domain & 2 competencies are selected. We share evidence of our practice in that area & opportunities for improvement. The report is followed up w/ a short (15 min) meeting w/ principal (usually each month).
Q5 if someone would like to try their hand at this moderating gig, we can make it happen. Just message me. Lots of help and encouragement included in the offer. #txlchat
We have had big and small sessions - from podcasting expert (@TheEdNarrative) and scriptwriter to an artist, local filmmaker talking re history of our school and segregation/civil rights, this week: Scholars Lab fr UVA talking re Digital Humanities #txlchat

A3 most definitely #txla19 is at the top of my list for PD this spring. Also my very knowledgeable colleagues, ALA webinars, and listservs are great resources. #txlchat
@technolibrary will you share how you work w exiting S’s as they transition to their new college/ universitylibraries. Plan for our spring sr. Focus #txlchat
A5 I have learned from #txlchat conversations about collaborating w/ or presenting to or with and coleading with principals and other administrators. I believe these are essential skills/activities for #schoollibrarians. Enjoy learning about positive (in particular) experiences.

How do you manage attendance? Is library closed to other students? Do students need ticket to enter? Do you schedule a class so you have a guaranteed audience? I have lots of Qs!! #txlchat

#txlchat When we started this, the TX standards were still being revised. We're just now starting to analyze the TX standards. Previously, we used the Future Ready Librarians Framework.
Email me - I'd love to give you more info! We close library, no tickets, allow them to eat lunch while listening. We have been really pleased with turnout! mtechman@k12albemarle.org #txlchat

A1: Late to the party, but answering anyway. I need to reboot my levels of collaboration and be more intentional in developing these relationships with teachers. I’ve been relying on the Ts who regularly ask me, and not reaching out! #txlchat
I believe if you register to attend, but cannot watch the live webinar you will be sent a link to watch the recording! You can’t lose! #txlchat#punkrocklibrarian
A3: I NEED it to be time for TLA! It totally recharges me! I need to connect to my PLN (thanks txlchat) and find my local experts to help me focus my efforts to support my school and district goals! #txlchat
A4: seems basic, but I need to pay attention to the calendar! Being informed about where our students struggle as a group or what skills need support are data points to consider in planning. #txlchat
