I’ve seen too many kids who have to help support their families taking care of siblings because a parent has cancer, working a job because parents struggle to make ends meet, or figuring it out on their own because there just isn’t anyone from the students family to help. #bfc530

I ran into a former student from over 20 years ago who became a teacher b/c he said I always seemed to be enjoying what I was doing & from what I have seen & heard, he has the same attitude with his own students #bfc530

I ran into a former S in the grocery store. We chatted for awhile & then he left. He came to find me a few mins later and handed me a chocolate bar. "I got this for you," he said shyly, "I had a few extra bucks, so.." I know what he was trying to say and I am grateful. #bfc530
I love seeing students I taught who stop by to visit in their military uniforms. So proud to have students who serve! And many never spoke about it while in Middle School, but found that path for themselves. #bfc530
I had a 5th gr S that told me all about her previous years as a trouble maker. I gave her the fresh start she was looking for...saw her recently as a successful college graduate. Couldnt be prouder! #bfc530

So, I had a former student come and see me right before he was leaving for college. He remembered that I tried to make learning fun and also talked about a couple of things we did specifically. I cried. #bfc530
It was a cool day ... what I was not expecting was to get all teacher feely ... taking a moment and knowing I had some small part of that was gratifying. #bfc530
I had a former student email me out of the blue just to say hello, and then I realized she was using an FCPS email account. She was starting her first year of teaching. #bfc530
Through the years I've gotten emails from former students coming out to me and telling me how I help them deal in High School, when I never knew they were #LGBTQ+

Running into former students or seeing their updates on Facebook helps create the vast wealth of a teacher's compensation that will not show up in any accountant's ledger (and is not taxable too) #bfc530

Even 29 years later, I am often moved by students who approach me from my first year of teaching to tell me that they still remember me making a small difference in their lives! I am always humbled! #bfc530
I actually saw a former student who graduated over ten years ago at a nail salon last Wednesday. Everyone was amazed how we remembered everyone in that classes name and reminisced on so many stories. Things like that remind me that I’m in the right profession for me #bfc530

A few days after discussing this fragment of a Rumi poem as our Poem of the Day, a student told me that his parents were starting to argue and he interrupted to recite this poem. They stopped arguing and started to discuss the poem! The power of words :) #bfc530

When an entry level professor said he remembered my class, I took time to recall his unassuming student activity. Reflection: any student can become the next educator, professor, leader. #bfc530
Just this Sat. I had this young man in 8th grade. He was working part time at a local store. He struggled at a JUCO he was at for wrestling. He told me he was home going to the local community college to regroup & then transfer. I encouraged him to keep moving forward #bfc530

#bfc530 When I see former #students, and they tell me they still watch some of the great #films I showed, or they tell me how much they remember learning from #TheTwilightZone#TwilightZone I work hard to embed #learning in those experiences....so happy.

I started a HS internship 3 yrs/ago bringing Jrs/Srs over to help my 6th graders with HW. 2/4 of my originals are @UToledo and @edhdbgsu in SPED. One told me, "I changed from law to ed b/c of that experience." #Mentoring#bfc530
I had a student about 12 years ago when I was an assistant in out of school suspension. He was with me for the majority of the year because of pranks. I see him around town occasionally and he still is so grateful and credits his graduation to me. #bfc530
