A1- When I taught AP CS, student designed project. Loose minimum req’s, Ss always exceeded them.
When I was teaching math the students ended the year with their connecting math to their passion projects
I am in on this one for sure!
Van Potter. Ann can do Harry Qs while I do Van Halen Qs. Deal?
I feel like HP love is hipster now, so not lil kid or mainstream
Ranges college/career...biography....fiction..poetry....dependent upon what I was teaching at the time
We should be changing things each and every year in education
As a summer school principal this yr, we're doing genius hour for Ss & Ts.
awesome idea an updated "welcome letter"!! https://t.co/WYnaEtkXlu
A1. I'm helping a Ss make a "welcome" video like the ones you see in hotels.

I would love to see them!!
Aweomse thanks for helping me with this. https://t.co/GVPyRrCDSd

A1: Always saved a live production for the end of K because the kids could read, speak publicly w/confidence, act & collaborate
A2: Since I'm starting a new job, honestly don't know outside of knowing that I'll be doing a lot of learning on the fly
Q2 In case u missed it!! https://t.co/M7cfI7vy3h
Q2-What are some reflections from this year, that will help guide the beginning of next year?
A2 Give Ts/Ss louder voice in per growth & development....biggest lesson...greatest return on investment https://t.co/QMt9ckCVQg
Q2-What are some reflections from this year, that will help guide the beginning of next year?
A2-You can never make it to simple and sometimes repeating yourself is ok. Everyone learns differently.
A2: As a first year TOSA i learned a ton!! I need to remember it's a marathon and not a sprint!!
A2: Just get out of the Ss way, They want to learn, show them how then get out of their way! https://t.co/zlTRTjg6uW
Q2-What are some reflections from this year, that will help guide the beginning of next year?
A2: Give Ss choice of means to share their learning; use my time with the Chromebooks wisely.
Rocky Logue CC 7th Grade SS LATE!!
I'm on it! maybe Fall 2016? I need to get my priorities straight (HP QUOTE)
always fun and daunting starting a new job!
A2- We need layers for helping out teachers w/tech not one off offerings https://t.co/gr1Cdt0QOi
Q2-What are some reflections from this year, that will help guide the beginning of next year?
yes and I need to read the new book!
Words of wisdom, so said sage Ahhhmmmennnnnn https://t.co/G8xauxorzR
A2: As a first year TOSA i learned a ton!! I need to remember it's a marathon and not a sprint!!
A2: Patience is one thing I like to try and bring with me every year.
A2: Guiding reflection - Can't be everywhere! Cloning & teleportation is not yet available, develop leaders from w/in.
And that's exactly what I'll be doing, probably going to be talking to you a lot this fall!
A2: Focus on the most expandable/diversely applicable programs. Teach 1 thing with 1000 diff uses. Not 1000 things
I will remember this as well!! https://t.co/DPaw9l8qoX
A2: Guiding reflection - Can't be everywhere! Cloning & teleportation is not yet available, develop leaders from w/in.
A2: Changing my PD model to get to more ts w/ embedded IT support. Need to clarify who does what & where ts should go.
A2: Reflecting on progress Ts made enhancing instruction w/edtech - Where to next? Our TOSAs are so money! https://t.co/eDXd6IPKYU
I'm here for you!! and so is my BAM
A-2 Teachers need more time to authentically collaborate w/o mandates from above. , filter, filter
A2: I can do more 1:1 work/assessments if I implement stations/rotations in CS
A2: I tried too much at once and ended up biting off more than I could chew.
Please come. In fact, how about Disneyland this week? I'm here now.
A2: Take things one step at a time. I was overly ambitious given tech constraints.
A1 don't save one for the end of the year but I have lots I love to surprise the Ss with throughout the year!!
A2. I'm going to use after visit surveys and my supervisor's evaluation, along with my
A2: goal for 16/17... differentiated PD. So important with Ts too. I lost a lot of opportunities this year.
A2 I have a blog about that! I want more facetime with classes. Seems like i was always training this yr!
need this for my Ts and admin as well
We are going to change our model to ensure that we are building more capacity at all levels
for sure!! one of my super heroes!!
As long as my brain and fingers work, I'm cool.
Eddie Van Halen quote.
Student designed project is one that you can repeat, but no 2 are ever the same!
How do we get school boards & other decision makers to understand?
A2- for Ts next year doing conference style PD. Lots of voice & Choice for Ts in my District. Teacher led, tech & more
LOL, and you are he for many (:
yea. I feel you. it is always good to get in classes!
A2 More student choice and voice! I want to do genius hour next year.
That's a wonderful idea, Sherry!
A2a:I need to schedule pd w/in staff meetings NOW for next year. No excuses from principals.
A2: I give my Ss a digital feedback form about general and specific things about the class. Always changes what I do!
A2 For me - realized my staff responds better to 1:1 training vs whole group. Will spend less time planning events.
A2: Collaboration fuels growth. It is my job as a leader to facilitate this.
you know you there girl! You rock this too (:
A2 I give my kids a survey at the end of the year. That really helps me fine tune what I'm doing
A2: need to send out a survey before Ts go home for summer to prepare offerings for next year
A2: Even more effort and intent needs to go into building classroom relationships for deeper learning to happen
remind me to share w/you our PD menu once it's done
A2: Reflections from this year - try cool new things early, don't save them for the end of the year!
I agree that smaller trainings are better for sure
A2: I would really like to move the mountain of "I'm too busy (being busy) to learn new ways to teach using ."
A2: Can't do it all, focus on the important work.
Agreed...that's the key student designed not teacher repeated.
A2: I can split lower elem into 2-20 min sessions & not start TK until 1 month in, maybe slower cadence too. But 4th/5th 3x/week
this is so important to remember!
yes for sure its i hit the 18 mile wall this year hard
A2: I'm going to figure out how to be more proactive (I say this every year).
A1: my last year as a T, my Ss made PVC pipe rocket launchers & we launched 2L soda bottles https://t.co/6d2SXmKDNf
A2: document my reflections via BLOG!
welcome Sara!! we got double the trouble tonight!
I need more of this, Kiersten :) https://t.co/y6zYQ8Tcx0
A2: Patience is one thing I like to try and bring with me every year.
i feel like mine do better w/ grade levels so they can talk things thru.
Good!! Glad you liked it!! It helped me a lot!
I find larger groups are good for broad topic, always meet 1:1 with those that want more
A2: Be bold, be bold... But not too bold. Remember that not all Ts and Ss are as geeky as me. Little bites, everyone.
A2: need more CS/Makerspaces norms. Need Ss to test into lab use! Clean up monitor & song to initiate cleaning.
A1: I like to save my robots for the end of the year that way I have extra $$ at the end if they break ;)
I feel like i say this every year! https://t.co/zaNC5Brxy7
A2: Reflections from this year - try cool new things early, don't save them for the end of the year!
thats true to. you can get some good discussion as well
Was that to remember you or because you just do amazing things all the time
More experiences versus tasks. Instead of book and lesson more connected experiences based around book topics
That is helpful, Kelly! I need to capitalize on that more.
Tom. That would take some serious wizard skills. I'm already 21 min behind in tonight; let's just image it.
A good one to remember for sure!
. We could share via video next year... my Ss are presenting next week.
I can never get people to sign up to come to large group trainings.
Dare Greatly --- Thats my Mantra for next year! I keep pushing myself to learn, do, contribute more
A2: build relationships day 1;be proactive;seek learning opportunities; use data 2 drive decisions;use research 2 guide practice
AWESOME!!! I knew they would be great! We just need to put the tools in their hands!!
A2: set aside weekly time to go back & org the flurry of my learning!
A2 go to tosa edition @ beginning of next year!
the SoCal one? I want to go too!
Storytime with my daughter. Lover her reading to me! Will check back towards the end when she's asleep
A2: Next year I will be a new position...haven't thought about reflections since I'm at school until August
Me too, me too! I missed the one last December in SF! SO want to go to the next Nor Cal one!
Yeah, gave them 10 minutes to explore, then we followed directions...still a little rough, but it'll be awesome on Wednesday...
A2- Procurement is lame. T&L is where its at. Focus on that.
A3: I don't, too much of a scaredy-cat after getting negative feedback,
A3: APUSH Ss write reflective essays, I get periodic feedback from Ss through surveys after
A3: Not really sure what waitin' on the other side...because there are so many other sides and so many choices.
A3: With the NEPF eval...a formal survey may be the best way! :)
A3: I used to have outgoing Ss write letters to incoming Ss. Great feedback and fun opportunity at the same time.
A3: How about a conversation. I sat with my Ss and we just talked.... I gained a lot of insight into them and my class
A3-Maybe this is too simple...I ask them. Fill out this anonymous survey. Got great feedback & other stuff...
A3 I had my student fill out a report card for me! It was eye opening and very useful!
A3: I do not ask them. Students tell me throughout the year. I prefer that interaction.
at Dosneyland sounds like fun!
Karly yes! let's tag team the NorCal TOSA!
A3: I've had Ss create video recording of selves telling their thoughts. Having voice is IMPT https://t.co/4H2b897PMY
Any MS T's use with their students or a similar program? Looking for myself as well as
A3- I had Ss write letters, what they liked, what they didn't like, etc... Sometimes painful, always good to reflect on
A3: Feedback from students through interactive journals. All year. Even w/kinders. Builds relationships w/students.
A3: As a T, I gave my Ss (and my Ps) a chance to provide feedback. People thought I was crazy but it was great info!
A3 My Ss R Ts now. I get feedback thru surveys and good ol'fashioned talkin'
I like working in the middle and hosting small groups.
yeah by the end of the year i had great relationships!
Something even crazier...I made changes based on student feedback. Boom! Mic Drop!
A3: Love using Google Forms to get feedback!
A3: I would love to create more detailed form that solicits direct feedback and suggestions. No feedback is negative.
A3. Asking them what assignments they liked. What kind do they want more of? Sometimes verbally, sometimes written.
I ask my Ts to fill out an after visit surveys, make graphs of the weekly averages and post it at my desk, it's ongoing.
Was there a stand out thing that you hadn't thought of or forgot about?
A3 ?- does any1 have Ts do end of year feedback? I do session evals, wondering how to apply this ? to Ts.
it was just cuz we were that cool. 1st Graders LOVED it... :O)
Small groups are my favorite - just can’t get people to come. My Ts are very busy. 1:1 seems my best shot.
A3: Google Forms & Teacher Talks!
A3: I did this mid year - Google form. I'd say to take it more often!
A3: Survey. Used to be paper. Ha! Now Google Form!
I am humbled and honored to spend my life with my fiancé in 3 days.
I had my students write letters to incoming freshmen students for my class. It’s a different way to get honest feedback
A3: Yep - now, I would create a google form. Imagine that - changing things up because of Ss! https://t.co/QCRewQRpmu
Something even crazier...I made changes based on student feedback. Boom! Mic Drop!
I wanted to but felt like Ts were over surveyed. I still might though!
I will be at CA weekend 1 in July. Would love to see you there.
A3: Over the years, Ss have provided feedback many ways... I appreciate a conversation the most
A3: Well I give a digital feedback form on the amazing & wonderful app. It always helps with my growth
I wanted to stop in for a bit but I’ve got to head out early. Thanks and
A3: Google Forms for feedback from Ss. Hopefully one of the snazzy new theme pictures will make them happier while filling it out.
A3: I'm having Ss make videos & explainer screencasts to hand off their knowledge to the incoming upper elem
Do you have an examples you would be willing to share? Here's mine https://t.co/zzgkb5od7X https://t.co/hHwTGOUDqp
A3: Google Forms for feedback from Ss. Hopefully one of the snazzy new theme pictures will make them happier while filling it out.
It was a class & Ss that I thought I had a good relationship with, so still feeling the burn.
I think this is a great way to reflect!!
I am not surprised. Ss want to be listened to authentic conversations go along way
A3: part 2 This yr did video interviews w/ 8th Graders. Asked qs like "what is your legacy?"
Maybe I'll try feedback after every unit/project - optional & less focused on me as a T.
I'm heading out early!! Bye, friends!!!!
A3: My Ss are Ts, and I collect feedback from them as often as I can. After PDs and follow-ups to coaching 1-on-1.
I tell Ss to write about their fav activities, difficulties they encounter & warnings (things to avoid) https://t.co/oCPmfcC4tv
I had my students write letters to incoming freshmen students for my class. It’s a different way to get honest feedback
Love this topic!! https://t.co/OGMUqbTSGV
A3: part 2 This yr did video interviews w/ 8th Graders. Asked qs like "what is your legacy?"
I'm curious about replies to this.
a3) I have done it before, but reading only one or two scathing, unfiltered diatribes keeps me from doing it ever again.
Just for the younger kids, but I love it
dare greatly!
https://t.co/HmJVw2vtoi
Dare Greatly --- Thats my Mantra for next year! I keep pushing myself to learn, do, contribute more
sometimes just because is all you need!
A3: If you are waiting until the end of the year, that is too long. Constantly assess your craft with feedback.
sounds like an awesome plan... I know it will be awesome!
YES great point! This year I am going to give my staff a form to fill out to find out what they need next yr
A3 EOY student surveys get good information
After every "section" I asked for quick feedback. So true!
very nice! Now it is in my Dropbox! Muahaha!
Agree!! My mantra Feedback: Breakfast of Champions! https://t.co/D3ddjbxbQY
A3: If you are waiting until the end of the year, that is too long. Constantly assess your craft with feedback.
awesome! is there a month yet?
Q4-How do you "NOT" count the days till the end of the school year & keep the focus on learning?
It takes 2 seconds and gives kids a voice in class.
No doubt Joe, you're so worthy of such a great end to this year. Wishing you every success
A4...The end of the year is coming? Hmmm...
A4: When your standards are as numerous as they are in US History, you NEED every day up until the end!
A3: today I interviewed some Kinders, best quote: "At first I was scared, then I was brave!" https://t.co/y11XsRwbiZ
For sure. They you can build your own library of kid awesomeness
A4) Simply by not counting down the days and focus on a solid lesson. I like a soft landing, friendly EOY.
A4: Just ask for the interest of your Ss. Use genius hour, passion projects. https://t.co/z6t32jZe61
Q4-How do you "NOT" count the days till the end of the school year & keep the focus on learning?
A4: I don't give in to playing chess or games or watching movies. Keep the intensity/rigor/demand for thought high.
A4: Plan interactive fun lessons (which you should do anyway) for the last couple of weeks to keep it engaging
A4: Engaging Fun Projects (which really should be done all year)
A4-Coming from corporate world, never viewed job as 9 months. Learning should never, ever stop!!!
You and I think on the same wavelength... see my last tweet
A4: have a really long contract / short or no break :(
A4: I may count the days, but its the number of Days left that I can make an impact!
Good night . Thank you to all of the wonderful folk who create such a lively discussion. Like a 12 Step program for Ts.
A4: The learning never stops. Each day with a student is an opportunity to make a difference. Make each minute count.
A4: I try new and exciting things we haven't "had time" for before. More freedom, more choice, new options.
Thats so Cal!! I am pumped for it!!
A4: Too much fun wrapping up the awesome year w/ big projects. No time to count the days! https://t.co/hfBa3Ue4ve
Q4-How do you "NOT" count the days till the end of the school year & keep the focus on learning?
A4: Already focusing on PD planning for next year. That's my planning cycle goes, gotta get ready for next year already.
great minds thing alike!!
A4. I get to cheat on this one. Prison takes no breaks!
A4: I completely lost track of time and realized how few days left when assigned final projects. We love
Well Said!! https://t.co/uV4BgNmLQy
A4: It starts with you. Its not 5 days until summer break. It's 5 days left to continue to develop our critical thinking skills!
A4 I DO love every minute of my time with my students and my staff but isn't it OK to look forward to summer?
oh, Bill...that's a great convo to have w Ss. Lots of insight for sure!
Yes! and there were many times, unfinished projects went home for the summer!! https://t.co/pha6ePbyUu
A4: Engaging Fun Projects (which really should be done all year)
agree with Ann!! Priceless for sure!
me too! that's my next big project after i get done w/ testing and K-2 report cards next week!
Thanks for being here with us Tom!
A4 then the last day sneaks up on me too fast and I'm not ready for it. Cut loose adrift in summer days, (at least I have ISTE)
A4: I have a hard time not counting the days until Sat. When there, I still kick some ___ at my job and kids love it.
A3: I like getting feedback along the way with each new project! I use whole class disc. and Google forms.
Great advice for ALL educators and caregivers. https://t.co/wbLA8cfNF9
A4: The learning never stops. Each day with a student is an opportunity to make a difference. Make each minute count.
A4: Keep it FUN! There's never enough time 4 all those lessons/activities that I was afraid to try throughout the year.
When Ss feel they can “get back at you” w/o consequences = anonymous. Ss feel ok to say hurtful things https://t.co/dlxNzZWpdA
a3) I have done it before, but reading only one or two scathing, unfiltered diatribes keeps me from doing it ever again.
and they appreciate it too!
what is this summer you speak of? Is this when I go to the pool with my kids after work?
my pal is using her USC Med students!
