#K12ArtChat is an #ArtsEd chat that happens every Thurs 8:30 pm CST founded by #TeamGrundler @ArtGuy76 & @GrundlerArt & share Ss' art on Fridays via #FabArtsFri.
Aargh, sorry #K12artchat, I'm in SLO mode right now (working on a survey for Ts tomorrow morning-data for my SLO) and I'm not gonna make it tonight...☹️
A1: I have a 3D printer on it's way to my office! I'm also really interested in laser cutting - personally I'm having a lot of fun with ink right now #K12ArtChat
#k12artchat A1 I am striving to bring in music and more tools for working with digital media. Wrote 2 grants today to get some equipment. fingers crossed
A1- I'd love to do more coding w my Ss. Piloted @ScratchJr with a few 3rd classes. Would love to showcase them at our student art exhibit but not sure of best way to present/share them... #K12ArtChat
A1: Ya’ll I’m not going to lie. I need to kick it old school for a hot minute! Looking forward to working with working on our BOSS laser next week though! #k12ArtChat
#k12artchat A2 I have had a 3D printing in my studio for some time and it taps a few students but laser cutting could tap another group in new ways. I love mashing traditional media with new tech.
A2: it would just be a new way to engage. We should always be exploring and pushing the boundaries of art to model the behavior for our students. #K12ArtChat
A2. #K12ArtChat Any tool used authentically can help students learn. With these tools I see students practice computational thinking concepts and the engineering design process.
A2: New media could bring different sources such as a virtual reality tour of an art museum! Also, faculty could have more interaction time with students with the help of efficient technology #K12ArtChat
A2 New media is pushing art past the boundaries of aesthetics and function & into this new weird and awesome place. For students, it is transformational. What once was tricky, expensive, & only available to some is easy, cheap, and more equitable. #k12artchat
Q2: With the laser cutting I want to go cross curricular... pull in ind. tech and Science... get some installation ideas going. Connecting... #k12artchat
A2 Students benefit from experience w/ new #media & #technology in #art class, the #creative process itself is valuable, transferable & leads to it greater flexibility #K12ArtChat
A2 New Media #3dprinting has enhanced my Ss learning by allowing them to experiment/create/share through cutting edge tools. Changed the way #K12ArtChat

Right?! A student designing online told me this week, "I don't like to use any technology if it's not free. I need to be able to work at home." BOOM! #k12artchat
A2- cont. gives Ss with fine motor challenges opportunities to succeed. I've seen kids who struggle with hands on drawing/painting skills create some wonderful animations! #k12artchat@assembly_pixite@GIPHYCAM
I've been really impressed with what my students have been able to do with 3d design in #tinkercad and wasn't to dig into kinetic pieces more #k12artchat
A3: I read this really interesting article on using a laser etcher on ceramics to create a metal inlay, very intrigued by this

A2: I am interested in our Ss creating adaptive equipment for our SPED kiddos to make art....bio design that directly impacts the school community #ArtMakingArt#k12artchat
A3: I would like to fuse traditional painting with today's virtual reality, because I want students to still feel like it traditional painting, without the mess of it all! I would love for the looks & sounds to be as realistic as possible #K12ArtChat
A3 I come up with some (conceptual) way to smash two things together all the time. Right now, I’m developing a portrait project integrating coding & circuitry; students can share auditory and animated information alongside the portrait. #k12artchat
A3: Good ole pencils are a great way to work up ideas and designs. It’s nice to start with some raw thinking... get the ideas going. Then lasers... I hope. #k12artchat
A3- I want to cont 2 explore hand drawn backgrounds w digital characters w @ScratchJr. I'd love to combine hand drawn portraits, green screen art history backgrounds, poetry, and background beats w @incredibox_#K12ArtChat
Q4: What Frightens you, or makes you apprehensive abt trying new media? What can @CsweeneyArtist do to help you feel more comfortable trying it Out? (Runs lots of workshops) #K12ArtChat

#k12artchat A4 Nothing really scares me ...I just want the support for the tech and the space to do it. I am getting mooshed in my current space but I'm making it work. I'm always willing to learn.
A4 It excites me and thrills me that you have no idea what might happen with new media. You don’t know which curves to look around. This unknown can lead to amazing things. I just have to open myself to that opportunity with a more willing heart. #k12artchat
A4: I fear that the technology will find its way to distract students and find a means of taking away all the traditional ways of art! I would love to see less distraction with technology #K12ArtChat
A4 My biggest fear in embracing new new in the classroom is that budget restrictions will restrict us from continuing to expose students to valuable new technology #K12ArtChat
I love me some technology in my Art studio, but S have more & more access to tech. Hands-on, classic materials (clay, oil pastel, paint... ) have become the 'wow' media these day for my kiddos. #k12artchat

A4: I want to make sure the kids are enjoying and inspired. I get super pumped, but remembering scaffolding and old school mediums... it’s all new to them. #k12artchat
A4- time and the class management aspect of technology. Just set up a 2nd 3d printer today. Submitted a grant prop for a 3rd one today too. Honestly love learning about the new tech alongside my kids. We're all geeking out over possibilities #k12artchat
So true! I broke my 3d printer within 10 minutes of use. It was awesome. I figured out how to fix it and learned how it works. Huge confidence builder. #k12artchat
I never have enough time to master everything I want to master. As long as I'm a few steps ahead of the kiddos, it works. Especially with all the new media. I love when kids are experts and teach me stuff. #k12artchat
#k12artchat A5 I think 3D printing mashup for stencils for printmaking, texture plates for ceramics, and small model designs for architectural pieces and game pieces.
A5 Anytime we use “mixed media” we are engaging in a mashup. I like appsmashing with applications. It shows students that you use different apps just like you use different tools in the art room. Different tools do different things, and you use them accordingly. #k12artchat
Q5: Mashups are successful when new and unused techniques are incorporated, and when it all comes together to look as a unified whole. Ideas that wouldn't seem like they fit, but manage its way into a story! #K12ArtChat
Two high school boys taught me more about coding and app smashing than any adult ever could. A middle school girl got me to look at animation in a different way. Kids, as digital natives, just see this stuff differently.. #k12artchat
Omgosh! This was SO much fun. And it was so challenging to me (in the very best way). Like, I did a lot of math to come up with a simple answer!! haha #k12artchat
A5: Mash up for the laser engraver and woodblock printing is so awesome! Plus it’s traditional Japanese woodblock meets contemporary Japanese technology! #k12ArtChat
Q6: I would love to use magazines for collages, but it's such a waste of paper! I've seen digital collages and would love @CsweeneyArtist to incorporate a much more precise way of digital cutting tools. And more magazine formats online because they're fun #K12ArtChat
#k12artchat A6 I want to have a multi-media art lab with flexible walls, tables, and work stations to accommodate media- messy wet media with clean areas for tech. I want a sound booth, recording equip, and green screen up all the time with space
A6 I want ALL the @chibitronics bits & bobs! This tech is SO accessible to all teachers, yet a lot don’t use them bc of cost intimidation & lack of knowledge. I conduct teacher workshops, & this is the tech I most want to bring into my practice. 1/2 #k12artchat
A6 I already use @makeymakey@scratchedteam and #3dprinting in my workshops (in as much as it is relevant). Imma like gimme all the @chibitronics ! I can just see kinders and other young elementary doing incredible things with this tech. #k12artchat 2/2
