A1 Choice in the classroom is flexible seating, options for assessment, and allowing students to learn in their own ways! Choice IS the great motivator in our classrooms! #FearlessEdChat
A1 real talk choice can be OVERWHELMING! I find I’m more of a fan of a really well plated and thought out dinner than a buffet. It’s super important that we do not get our students lost in the amount of choices #fearlessedchat
A1: I love encouraging kids to ask for the "hidden menu" within their classes. Our schedule is pretty set in the Lab, but other places, I push them to apply what we do with our engagements. #fearlessedchat
Dude! I love the idea of incorporating a secret menu! Somehow tying it in to secret menus at Starbucks and stuff like that might really speak to what my kids are interested #fearlessedchat#mikeismyinspiration

Some students aren’t able to narrow down a selection when there are unlimited options, however getting to know their learning styles and preferences will help narrow options.#FearlessEdChat
A2: It sets them up for success later in life because not everything I face on a daily basis is an essay or a powerpoint. Many times, they have better methods of demonstration that we could ever dream of. Are we willing to listen? #fearlessedchat
A2: Choice shows our Ss they have a say. I want to empower Ss so they're engaged & inspired to do things they're passionate about. Providing choice helps move past basic compliance. Next step is what choices? why those choices? differentiated choices? #FearlessEdChat
A2: Choice can be present in the classroom through flexible seating, assignment options such as record on @Flipgrid, written response or work with a partner. Students can also chose their groups. #FearlessEdChat
A1. Choice is giving Ss the opportunity to choose their learning area topics for the day! Giving Ss a chance to voive or control what goes on in learning in their classroom. #fearlessedchat
A2 Choice is important because all students do not learn in the same way at the same time. If I’m not willing to meet my students where they are at, why should they listen to a word I say? Choices can help level the playing field for different learners #fearlessedchat
A2 choice tells Ss that we respect and value them as learners and see that they can show understanding in ways that are meaningful to them #FearlessEdChat

Go to McDonald's and ask for the "Land, Sea, and Air Burger". You can thank me later. Not always a lead pipe lock...I asked for a Hot Hazelnut Smoothie (per @MsRazikELA) at Tim Horton's and the cashier laughed at me. #truestory#themoreyouknow#fearlessedchat
A2. Choice is important for our Ss because it empowers them to become leaders and control their own learning! They gain independence, leadership skills, collaborative skills, they will continue to use in learning!#fearlessedchat
It is an ancient form of communication used by the elders. Made 100X better when people read to you from their screens, verbatim. #facepalm#fearlessedchat
A3: Know your students. Each student receives what they need in order to be successful, it may look or sound different but that's because not everyone has the same needs, interests, questions. If you don't know your students you can't differentiate effectively. #FearlessEdChat
A3: I always make sure that I'm never "set" in my ideas for their choice. I allow kids to suggest things to me and go off of where they are in the moment. Feedback and reflection from kiddos and allowing some kids more free reign than others helps too #fearlessedchat
A3: I think this is best accomplished by knowing the people that are in your room. When I create choice based upon what clicks for me, that's selfish. If kids are OK writing, OK, write for me. I can't eliminate choices off the menu because I dislike them. #fearlessedchat
A4: many times options to help direct the learning path and help students focus on objectives needed. But, free reign is also built in especially for catching up so students can take ownership in their learning. #fearlessedchat

A3 - make a bingo type board with different types of assignments where students would have to connect so many in a row. This provides lots of choices and increases motivation. #fearlessedchat
A4 My goal every year is that as the year progresses students are asking less of what can we do or what our options, and just assuming that if they can think it up they can do it. I don’t want my options to suppress their creativity #fearlessedchat
A4 - options are nice but can limit creativity. Free reign will allow creativity to flourish but students should run their ideas by the teachers first. #fearlessedchat
A3. With some of the projects or activities, we need to allow for differenciated skill levels, so if a Ss does something differently, we'll usually try it, as long as it's safe! #fearlessedchat
A4: Oooooh. Tough. Choice is good. Gives help for those that are afraid to fail. They need a specific target to chase. Some of those free-flowing types, would be OK with a free-for-all. Not me. I need to know where I am driving at all times. #fearlessedchat
A4: I prefer free reign within options. Choices can be provided but Ss can choose in what order, where they want to complete the tasks, or even how they'll demonstrate understanding. Ss will respect boundaries while feeling empowered to make choices along the way. #FearlessEdChat
Alright, #fearlessedchat. Gotta dip. Hot date with a blowtorch. Best not to ask questions. Thanks for doing this, Ryan. I needed this tonight. Rough day being the father of "Boy1Da".
Choice is autonomy. It allows Ts to give Ss control of their learning. Ts can bound the choices Ss are given as necessary to keep on target, but the autonomy of making the choice will drive motivation for the Ss. #FearlessEdChat
A4. Free reign when it comes to ideas and suggestions, options for activities, because some of the things we work with can be harmful if used improperly! #fearlessedchat
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT let me actual get credit for things that have helped me in providing quality, engaging, and relevant instruction for my students. Twitter chats and MOOCs give me more (usually) than mandated sessions #fearlessedchat#mymisd
A4: I prefer options in order to keep my class running smoothly. I allow feedback from students for consideration for future choices, but I do not like the feeling of complete free reign in my classroom. #ContolledChaos#FearlessEdChat
A5: I am fortunate to work for @vbschools where we are given choice as to what PD we would like to attend based on our interests & desires. In my building, I also feel like we're provided with multiple choices when implementation of various goals are presented. #FearlessEdChat
Looking forward to this! Hoping that #FearlessEdChat family is ready to reflect on those inspirational “teacher” movies that touched your hearts & made you believe you could change the world! Please join me. #teachermyth
A5 - I would like the choice of the topics I get to teach my students. Having to teach specific topics just because they will appear on standardize tests takes time from more important lessons. #fearlessedchat
A2: Giving choices to Ss automatically drives their buy-in to the session.
They become accountable for the outcome bc they made the choice of what to do.
It instills pride and ownership of their learning which will ultimately lead to a more successful outcome. #FearlessEdChat
