We chat every Tuesday night at 8:30-9:30 pm CST. All are welcome, especially EarlyEd teachers, leaders & experts. Co-founded & moderated by @techwnancy @JessicaCabeen & @VealHeidi
hi #ecechat! I'm excited to jump into tonight's 30 minute chat. I'm Sara, a k teacher in Lake Tahoe, NV. 2 1/2 more days with my enthusiastic, happy, excitable kiddos!
A1. I have seen everything from mastering letters to getting across a whole set of monkey bars celebrated. Nothing is too small to pause and celebrate #ECEChat
A1: alll the small victories, saying a letter, writing their name, following directions the first time. Big believer in celebrating growth and change along the way! #ECEchat

Thoughtful responses. Volunteering wrong answers. Right answers. Agreeing with a right answer. My Ss are fragile. Gotta build a wide net so they jump in. #ECEChat
A1 Our big push this year is kindness! We give out Kindness tickets then post them on our school Kindness display. In general, anything the accomplish small or large...build their confidence #ecechat
A1: As a K teacher I always celebrate with my Ss when they master letter names/sounds--it's a huge achievement for them and something at which both they and their families work extremely hard #ecechat
A1 Knowing the first letter of their name, spelling or writing their name, knowing all their letters... how to tie your shoe... but my favorite is celebrating showing kindness!!! #ecechat
A2. It can range from a quick class cheer to a recognition assembly to a school wide celebration-whatever it is set an intention and make sure kids are aware of it! #ECEChat
A1 Any progress a student makes academically or social emotionally. I love how Woodson celebrates with students through pbis and students of character! #ECEChat
A1 At this moment, we're celebrating kids' completion of Wrtg Wrkshop bks for parents by having a Wrapping Workshop! We celebrate multiple milestones. #ECEchat
A2- Cheers, class parties and announcements, notes home and acting silly excited when they have mastered a task. Celebrated a student knowing all her letters this week and she looked at me like I was crazy, but it is worth it! High energy always! #ECEchat

A1 I try to celebrate many victories for each kid every day. I only have 9 this year so can (theoretically) keep track of each of their progress and milestones. We @RealDrjean Kiss our Brains and Shout Out during AM meetings and closing circles. #ecechat

A1&2: Celebrating student success in small & big ways. Clapping, stopping the whole to congratulate and sending notes home to parents. I try to frequently share successes in academics and character traits to ensure each student is being celebrated in a special way. #ECEChat
A1 I think the best part of my job is the continuous celebration of ALL of the accomplishments daily- big and small- academic, social and everything in between. I am lucky!😀🍀 #ecechat
A2 We celebrate student success by acknowledging their hard work, by cheering & clapping, by kind words. We continually remind them that "this is how friends treat each other." #ECEchat
How is that going? I would love to do something like that but am hesitant to implement a system that is more work for teachers. (I've worked in 2 PBIS schools and spent many hours writing/giving out tickets to well deserving ss.) In kinder, I love to do kindness parades #ecechat
A2: Looking forward to hearing this!! I think for me it's keeping a portfolio throughout the year showing their learning growth and making calls home / meeting with Ps. #ECEchat
Our whole school does it. I keep a list of who has received one (just to make sure I am catching everyone) then I just tape to the board in the front hallway. Its really easy to to. Our counselor set it up #ecechat
I'm not teaching yet or working in a classroom (I do volunteer in our 6th-12th youth ministry -- which we have two-three kids in elementary that go anyway) but back in elem I remember learning something and was SOOOO excited to go home and tell my grandma what I learned! #ECEChat
A3: One of my Ss started the year off knowing 0 letters and as of today he knows 51!! We celebrated as a class his growth and how his hard work has lead to his success! #ECEchat
A2 Yes! I'd totally agree. We also have student-led conferences where the K's share with their parents (after much reflection!) how they're coming along as learners. Those calls home sure are important, too. #ECEChat
I am not as good as @principalfrench is with his GoodNewsCallsHome but I do love to just quickly tell parents at pickup that their S made a great choice or complimented a friend or had a breakthrough! #ecechat
A3: A success that has already happened this year is that 20 of my 23 Ss have family representation on our class Facebook page. I am amazed at how much parent engagement I am seeing! #ecechat
A3 We did ABC Boot Camp this year again; I have 3 & 4 yr olds at mastery for letter/sound knowledge. We celebrated with a big parade in front of our whole school #ecechat
I finally gave my assistant one of my math classes (he’s student teaching next year). I took two of my individualized Ss so rewarding. I still team teach. #ECEChat
I want to teach K-3 but 7-12 would be okay, too! But I'm using my youth ministry volunteer opportunity to get myself in the door to gain a little experience for later on down the road. #ECEchat
@Teach4SpclNeeds is the queen of them! ours usually involve a small writing project (this week we're writing holiday notes for enrichment teachers) then parading through the school to deliver and give oral greetings! #ecechat

A3a When writing abt fav traditions as a gift to Ps, the kids were "translating" their words (for me to post on sticky notes.) One little girl insisted that I fix hers to say "I love to GIVE presents," rather than GET them. Sweet girl! #ECEChat
I’ve been able to get a few Ss to relax and be okay with their Math challenges. Vs defensiveness, attacking perrs verbally, going home sad/mad. #ECEChat
A3- Building Ss leaders. Seeing Ss want to take advantage of leadership opportunities. Numerous PK Ss want to read a book to the class. The Ss are taking responsibility for their learning, and for maintaining a very positive classroom climate. It has been a joy!! #ECEChat
A3: A success has been with my whole group of grade 1's. It is so rewarding and encouraging to see them progress so quickly with learning how to read and write. I am blown away by how well they have been able to use invented spelling to get those ideas down! #ECEchat
Last year we (Ts) could shout out students at our weekly, whole school assembly but our new Head of School has different ideas about that time. I like the idea of a board in the lunchroom! #ecechat
I did a letter/day this year per @mrswillskinder and are knee deep into word families already. I love the new (to me) speed and my kids are eating it up! #ecechat

A3b Another cool first-time: One of our brilliant little guys had focused his full life on lrng & playing in his own ways before K. He didn't have many letter sounds mastered at beg of yr; but, lately he's been reading every single kid's name to pass out folders daily! #ECEChat
Yes! me too @tinacruickshank - I want to work on student generated class goals related to our class promise and SEL curriculum. Also, we need to get working on our eoy public speaking project and that will take many small steps #ecechat
A4 I hope to focus more on Kids' Ways of Knowing. As we jump into our collaborative, whole-cls expert project in Jan, we'll model important concepts. But, I trust we'll honor the things they know & believe are important as well. We always can lrn from each other! #ECEChat
So true; I love doing informal data-checks with Ss before breaks as a reminder of how far they've already come so when we return I have a clearer perspective of their achievements #hackingearlylearning#ecechat
My kids love seeing their pie graphs grow and change on @esgisoftware! Upon request, I print out their 'history' so they can show their families. #ecechat
