Welcome to our #CreateEdu chat! This week we are chatting about collaboration in creative problem solving with Tanya Avrith (@TanyaAvrith). Introduce yourself and where you're from.
Hi everyone ! I am Tanya Avrith - Thrilled to be moderating #CreateEDU chat this evening. I am originally from Montreal Canada but now live in Sunny South Florida!
Hey everyone - Eric from Sacramento CA; English teacher (9-10). A1: VERY new to Twitter (4 days), so most collaboration is done on my campus with the amazing crew we've assembled. BUT...I've gleaned a TON from following @jcorippo@finleyt@ericcurts#CreateEdu
YES ! what an amazing group! I love working with you guys as well. You all inspire me creatively. Wish I got to work with all if you every single day. #CreateEdu
A2: #CreateEdu While learning how to be a teacher it is important to collaborate in the classroom with technology to enhance learning. Learning about new aps enhances my professional development
I collaborate with @HollyClarkEdu ALL the time creatively - We wrote the book "The Google Infused Classroom" together - ME in South FL and her in Southern Cali - we are always trying to solve problems together #CreateEdu
A2: Collaboration for my professional development is key! Really rely on my #edu PLN both of educators and #edtech community leaders to learn from. @EdSurge@isteconnects@EdcampUSA#CoffeeEdu helpful resources to make those connections face to face #CreateEdu
A2: A huge role - in last 2 years, I have been teamed up with an amazing SpEd teacher for the first two periods with the purpose of helping SpEd students get into a GenEd classroom with other GE students to help them adapt to GE curriculum and rigor. (1 of 2) #CreateEdu
A2 -- I have not taught in classroom alot. When I was working @dTechHS I had the support of passionate co-workers (educators) and made use of the @k12lab resources to design a curriculum to pilot a Curiosity project. #CreateEdu

A2: We prep and plan lessons together, create differentiation, co-teach (i.e. he's not my aide). It has paid off huge dividends - one thing is it helps our SpEd students grow in self-confidence. #CreateEdu
Completely agree! Time pressure can prompt skipping that step.. and I always get amazed at the perspectives & insight beyond what I had. #takesavillage#createedu
A2: I rely on those I'm close to in my PLN to support me in projects I'm working on. I have invited them over the years to join me and we've collaborated together successfully! Community over competition is key to me. #CreateEdu

A2 Much of my work has been with promoting collab & coteaching between ELL Tchrs & Mainstream.. Each has a different role & what is brought to the table. It's not "splitting the work" but bringing 2 sides together to equal more than 1 + 1! #createedu

A2: My best lessons are always those where I seek inspiration from others and I’m able to grow from feedback - both from Ss and educators. The key is having a growth mindset and being open to constructive feedback. #CreateEdu
A3: I regularly collaborate with my fellow admins in district to take care of issues: testing schedule, handling student discipline, learning together #CreateEdu
A3: #CreateEdu As a future special education teacher, we constantly have to work on accommodations and modifications with general education teachers. My favorite problem solving strategy is trying a co-taught classroom.
A2: @Twitter has had a major impact on my teaching career. I have been able to collaborate with many educators throughout the world. I also use @SkypeClassroom to bring experts into my classroom! #CreateEdu
A2: I collaborate with my #PLN all the time for PD. I also learn alongside my teachers in book groups and conversations we have about students and learning. We are truly lifelong learners #CreateEdu
Storytelling is soooo important. It is an art that is not nurtured enough. It is a way of building emotional connection, which is so important to make people care. #CreateEdu

@MsClaraGalan, @ideaguy42, @AdobeSpark, @tacytrow
Here we differentiate by giving instr on at least 3 different levels of understanding. So what we did is mix the kids of our 2 sections accordingly level of understanding. My colleague takes average and smart and 1 take average and slow learners. Works great #CreateEdu
Q3: In working with my grade-level English teaching colleagues over the past 6 months, we have been able to establish 10 learning targets for our freshmen students (what every 9th grader should be proficient in by the last day of school). It got us on the same page. #CreateEdu
A3 Sometimes just remembering that we have the tools to connect! i.e. bringing learning coaches together via Zoom. Sometimes planned & sometimes spontaneous. This week, same with a teacher, a coach, and me: jumped on a vid call to figure out stations/ podcasting #createedu
A3 -- It is important to ask the right questions about the problem. Also, it is as important to unearth assumptions that we might have. Collaboration than will be super helpful because ideas can be shared and tested. #CreateEdu
That is amazing. How are the students demonstrating their understanding and growth. Are they part of the conversation around their personal learning targets ? #createedu
A3: I currently find myself using @Voxer more and more for problem solving opportunities. I'm able to reach out to so many amazing educators in this medium and in turn support them as well. #CreateEdu
A4: In our technology class, we looked at https://t.co/B1WFHfYmv0 and these are all great problem solving games that allow students to learn and reiterate a lesson in a fun way. #CreateEdu
A4: There are a number of protocols out there (e.g. tuning, consultancy) that can be really useful in structuring collaboration and creative problem-solving. #CreateEdu
A4 #createedu - we say it often, yet the process of Design Thinking is very powerful for creative problem solving.. getting to the multiple iterations & trying again! It's def a go-to

A4 -- In my limited experience in classroom, what I have learned is the need to re-assure students to sit with the problem. That is when I start seeing creativity & ideas flowing. #CreateEdu
4) - lately the design thinking process and ISTE standards for students stick out for me. I use many of those resources to build my curriculum.
#CreateEdu
Another amazing resources and process we use at our school is the #agileclassroom process designed by @agileschools his resources and processes for collaboration are incredible. Changed my life #CreateEdu
I'm so grateful for @TanyaAvrith. She connected me with #ManelTrenchs through Twitter. My Spanish Ss and his Art History Ss met through GHO. We were so lucky to meet the day after the Catalonia referendum. #CreateEdu
This is a great question! I presented at ASCD in 2011 on working Beyond the Classroom Walls when it was still a small idea. So happy to see how its growing! #CreateEdu

#createedu Even simple tools we use in the classroom can be expanded to global collab by inviting others. i.e. in our Irving #dpvils, 1 padlet connected 2 6th grade classes working on the same issues! (WTG @NoahsArkTech@Alissaag02@VondaTheTeacher & teams!)
#CreateEdu One of my favorite ways to have students collaborate and solve problems is through google if they are not in the classroom and on smart board tables in the classroom!
A5 Can’t say that I am there yet but I have big plans!! #CreateEdu I find @Flipgrid and @padlet to be the best tools to get a global project started. @IrvingISD does have a couple of campuses compete yearly robotics competition with Ss in India which is amazing.
A6: Our experimentation with blogging about "Lord of the Flies" this past month (1st time trying it) was hugely successful. Ss had to post AND respond to posts of their classmates, which helped lead them collaborate on & demonstrate mastery on their final projects. #CreateEdu
A6..1 way = lots of video.. record what they see, record changes, record interviews, reflect together, share their voice and trials/ perspectives #createedu
Where do I begin!
@padlet #@GoogleForEdu @Flipgrid (what up #flipgridfever )
@BookCreatorApp is now collaborative - on premium- so good 😊 I have my kids participate in collaborative projects all the time with schools and students from all over #CreateEdu
I appreciate the Connections section of #flipgrid .. many Global Goals questions posed and the opportunity to hear student solutions and insights from around the world. #createedu
