Ahoy hoy, #EdChatME! How's about a short & sweet chat tonight to share ideas on how to celebrate success and survive end-of-year rush...?
  • jonpratt - Moderator May 15 @ 8:37 PM EDT
Going once, going twice... or maybe #EdChatME-ers are already too caught up in end-of-year stuff to have a chat about end of year stuff?!
  • eringobragh29 May 15 @ 8:41 PM EDT
Hiya, #edchatme! End-of-year stress for me this year involves 70 12th graders and a spring cold!
  • jessicawrd3 May 15 @ 8:42 PM EDT
Hi #edchatme lots of end of year prep for graduation and reflecting on reflections from teachers and students #crazybusy...
  • jonpratt - Moderator May 15 @ 8:43 PM EDT
Hey Erin! Nasty spring cold going around DoFo too. And hopefully all your 12th graders haven't caught senioritis too bad yet! #EdChatME

#EdChatME after AP exams w/lots of school left. Stats is doing more (fun!) stats; calc is doing #riddlers from @ollie and @FiveThirtyEight
  • eringobragh29 May 15 @ 8:43 PM EDT
Oh, the senioritis struggle is real. #edchatme

So thoughts for #EdChatME tonight revolve around end-of-year. How does your school celebrate Ss success? Any recognition for Ts?
  • T_HEB May 15 @ 8:44 PM EDT
End of the year uphill climb includes final reports, keeping Ss focused, and packing room for bldg demolition. #edchatme
  • MichaelisMath - Moderator May 15 @ 8:46 PM EDT
I always try to mix up activities, creative ways to learn, but *especially* feel a need this last, lonnnnng, so-far-dreary month. #edchatme
  • southernmainewp May 15 @ 8:46 PM EDT
We have a similar question for our Community Conversation geared for writing. #edchatme https://t.co/w6TI9UGAIJ

I imagine that post-exam time must be fun for most AP teachers - less test prep, more digging into fun applications #EdChatME

My fav is the Viking Corps award, given by Ts to Ss who have been quietly showing growth, strength, or determination. #edchatme
  • jessicawrd3 May 15 @ 8:46 PM EDT
Ss success celebrated at our year end assembly, a tradition. Ts success we celebrated the first week during T appreciation. #edchatme
  • MichaelisMath - Moderator May 15 @ 8:47 PM EDT
We *could* do more content...but it's more fun to keep digging and making sense of the year, even if the "big exam" is behind us. #edchatme

That sounds awesome! Curious to know the setting for when it's given -- assembly? Awards night? Graduation? #EdChatME

Ts shared Ss work at our Ts luncheon, they were tasked w/ brining something that showed S voice and choice #edchatme
  • eringobragh29 May 15 @ 8:49 PM EDT
There's a specific awards ceremony for it in the evening because every T can nominate someone. #edchatme
    In reply to @jonpratt
  • jonpratt - Moderator May 15 @ 8:50 PM EDT
Do you have any awards that celebrate a T specifically, or by specific criteria, like is common for Ss? #EdChatME

Building demolition is definitely NOT one you see every day! #edchatme

@jonpratt nothing specific that I have come up with yet but I am working on some ideas to break out of the norm....#edchatme
  • jonpratt - Moderator May 15 @ 8:51 PM EDT
Yeah, I don't think most AP courses lack for content packed in before the exam, that's for sure! #EdChatME

It is amazing what those closets can hold. Packing everything up for summer or two year storage. #edchatme

I moved my classroom last year, and let me tell you, it was like an episode of Hoarders: Book Nightmares. #edchatme

Other topic that was on my mind for #EdChatME tonight: to share ideas & practices re: managing end-of-year chaos...ie: student make-up work?
  • MichaelisMath - Moderator May 15 @ 8:54 PM EDT
#edchatme. Just good life advice in general, to frame things in the positive! Disney won't say "don't run"-- they say "please walk!" #tone

A1: So often #DigCit is all about the DON'Ts to kids. Don't do this, don't do that. Why don't we talk to them about the DO's? #edtechchat
  • T_HEB May 15 @ 8:56 PM EDT
As elem T I look for large culminating projs like Dream House proj (math) or multi genre writing. Uses skills taught during yr. #edchatme

Nice. Was talking w/ my wife the other night re: UMaine employee recognition & have been thinking about how to bring to my work. #EdChatME

Cool, so these kinds of projects can allow Ss to demo learning w/out necessarily having to go back & re-do older assignments? #EdChatME

Right, proof of concept understanding (& missed assignments) is found in the larger context of the project. Also deeply engaging. #edchatme

I can imagine! Good to acknowledge that Ss learn at different times & rates, but time == most limited resource. How to balance? #EdChatME

  • eringobragh29 May 15 @ 9:06 PM EDT
No magic formula, I guess. In the end, there's always one big deadline. Ss mismanaging time early = last minute cramming. #edchatme

OK #EdChatME crew, need to call it a night a bit early tonight to keep my energy levels where they need to be for the sprint to graduation!
  • jonpratt - Moderator May 15 @ 9:12 PM EDT
Hoping that we'll see more posts to #EdChatME w/ shared ideas on how to celebrate Ss & Ts success & protips on surviving end-of-year chaos!
