@Johnston_Rams Hi everyone! I am a Special Education major from West Chester University joining the chat tonight! Excited to hear everyone’s ideas! #spedchat
A1: para's are the folks who keep a building running. Their work is essential, critical to accommodate and to provide individual services based on needs. Grateful to work with some of the BEST! #spedchat
A2: demands of the job give some hurdles. Most critical component to be a quality, functional environment: respect and quality communication. #spedchat
A3: I feel we do not do a great job in this area. Our para's are often left behind; they need training and PD in areas essential to their jobs. Safety training, technology, curriculum updates, etc. they're in the thick of it daily, MUST support. #spedchat
#spedchat A4: I like to give them freedom to help come up with activities that pertain to the unit we are working on, I also allow them to run centers in my classroom!
A4: I often valued their strengths. We created projects and assessments TOGETHER. I'm not a craft guy; I LOVED their input and spin on things-esp creativity. They made me a better teacher but, more importantly, a better learning environment. #spedchat
A5. Assuming expressive delay =s receptive delay. Talking about a S while standing overtop of him as if he or others in the room can't comprehend. Confidentiality! #SpEdChat
