We're chatting about using edtech for social good! How can companies and teachers work together to envision a better world?! Chat with Empatico, Jen Williams and more educators!
#EdTech4Good Hi! I’m a Principal in Central MN. I can’t tag my three people because they aren’t on Twitter. They are my grandkids, Trenton, Kaylee and Riley.
A1 I think it is important to take action on developing empathy in students. It is a critical need. Access to global collaboration opportunities helps build this. The impact is felt in school, in the community and globally through these shared experiences. #edtech4good
Every school deserves to be considered while taking actions for the #GlobalGoals. In Nigeria, we lay much emphasis on our public schools because they are quite affordable and funded by government.
#edtech4good
A1: I think it is very important for us to take action on bringing in strong Social/Emotional Learning curriculums + implementation support in our schools + local or global collaborations to create an understanding of global issues with a problem solving mindset. #EdTech4Good
A2 Last year when I read the One and Only Ivan combine with my daughter studying in S. Africa, my class raised money to save 3 animals through WWF #edtech4good
Hey everyone, saw my inspirational buddy @m_drez was joining the chat and couldn’t not join you all. Mike is a superstar along side my all time mentors @mrshurtteaches@mbfxc and @specsol#edtech4good

A2: I believe that making connections/building a relationship needs to happen first. If you build their trust, they will talk to you and give you wonderful ideas. #edtech4good
Truth. It is still crazy to me to think of the situation in Flint. And the lack of access to clean water around the globe. We have several fountains/in our school with signs not to drink due to unsafe lead levels. #edtech4good
#edtech4good A1 Equity in literacy is a global need. Currently at our school we are focusing on kindness. If only everyone would respond with kindness like kindergarten students!
A1. Students must look at all 17 #sdgs#edtech4good decide what's important for them ,which one ...choose and advocate about them in all it's totality . My students individually look at different #SDGs and research around them & create awareness, then look at suggestive policies
As a Team of Undergraduate Law Students who are driven by passion for the #GlobalGoals, we engage Students on regular basis, divide them into groups and ask them to work on the Goals, we encourage every students to work on all the Goals.
#edtech4good
A2 last year was the first time we introduced @TeachSDGs to 3rd graders and asked them which one they most wanted to help solve with an invention or idea. Ask and they will ideate.
#edtech4good
It’s important to address the big issues of the world. Kids need exposure to become passionate. It is vital through an inquiry approach you allow kids to question & create calls to actions by inventing, innovating and most importantly campaigning as the SDGs promote. #edtech4good
A2 often it arises in context of uncovering outrage or frustration w an injustice -- perceived or authentic, then asking them them why such a reaction? Often there's a deeper context going on #edtech4good
A2: To discover the causes that my ss are passionate about, I like using magazines like @Scholastic News or @Newsela articles to bring attention to the current national and International issues #EdTech4Good
A2: Ask them! Show them the SDGs and problems that currently exist in our world. Explain it in a way that is clear and relatable to them (pictures, stories, videos). Teach them to look for inequalities and to know the value THEY have to make a difference NOW. #edtech4good
A2: Let Ss share their voice & have choice! When there’s open dialogue to share their passions, we’re able to support Ss on their mission to change the world! #EdTech4Good
Q3: This month we are exploring the concept of “Change Starts with Me.” What are ways you are inspiring positive change in your school, local and/or global community? #edtech4good
A2: Building a positive community within the classroom inspires collaboration with students and they are eager to share what they are passionate about and eager to take action. Giving Ss a voice is huge. #edtech4good#stuvoice

A2: Provide time for your students to investigate issues both locally and globally. Create structures where they can help support the work of one another and involve your community. They are just waiting for the invitation to be more involved in our schools! #edtech4good

A3. I share--when I can--about things I am working on/toward and am starting some projects right when we come back from Fall Break. #EdTech4Good#TheEmpathyProject
#edtech4good teachers and students need exposure to the world to build an understanding of what others are battling other than themselves. The #SDGs are vital but of Ts lack understanding they are just a poster in the wall. Connecting educators builds teacher capacity.

@EmpaticoOrg I think the biggest change I can make happen is to make sure my students feel welcomed each day. They start to welcome each other, everyone feels valued. Teaching patience and handling mistakes well is another biggie. #edtech4good
A3 Sometimes I think we may be blind to the ways we inspire change. I know I have a positive attitude, a willingness to help everyone and a tireless work ethic. Hopefully this combo has a ripple effect and contributes to a positive culture. #edtech4good

A3: So often students and educators feel like change has to involve something HUGE to be impactful. But, I have found that some of the greatest changes happen within us. Learning from one another in order to help others learn and grow is HUGE! #Edtech4good
Q3: This month we are exploring the concept of “Change Starts with Me.” What are ways you are inspiring positive change in your school, local and/or global community? #edtech4good
A4. Blogging, tweeting, posting to Facebook and Instagram are a few. But don't forget to let students share via podcasts, blogs, etc. #EdTech4Good#TheEmpathyProject
#edtech4good A3. Less reactions and more calmness...going with the flow and not questioning everything. One might mistake it for complacency but it's the inner calm that has taken charge ....maybe I am growing old
A3: I have a "positive vibe" wall where I post positive things I hear kids say and things they do. Ss also post things up there. Very inspirational to look at everyday #edtech4good
A3
Start by showing Ss that THEY can be the change makers we’re looking for! Let them know that even though they are young they can do something to improve the world! #edtech4good

A3 This is small but when kids have an idea, being open and transparent about trying it. When they question why we do certain things if they don't make sense to them, being honest with them.
#edtech4good
This is wonderful! How can others here help you? Our classrooms are always looking to make a difference from our small corner of the world in New York. We’d love to learn more. #edtech4good

A3. I don't think the Golden Rule works well to #SparkEmpathy
Instead, try the Platinum Rule and *ask* students and other adults how they want to communication, collaborate with you.
Asking, rather than assuming, does wonders for #edtech4good#TeachSDGs#BeTheChange
A sad but true reality- over 25 years in US Title 1 schools- many parents doing the best they know to do- education on many levels - if only we could solve this world wide need- @drjules13#EdTech4Good
A4: This might sound odd, but I really like highlighting colleagues by emailing some positive feedback on a project/lesson and CCing a supervisor. #EdTech4Good
