It was awesome, thanks so much for asking! Had two terrific conferences this week, made a lot of new friends/connections. How about yours? #MasteryChat
Kristen here from PA! I’m in full summer mode and spend my time with a 6 yo, 4 yo, and 2 yo. And I just spent the last half hour posting silly videos on @flipgrid for #122edchat#culturize book study. Sorry ‘bout that. You become who you spend me your time with! #masterychat
#MasteryChat hi everyone Aprajita Ralli from India... One Interesting thing is I am addicted to these chats on @Twitter and I have started sleeping early so I can wake up this early to catch my favorites...
Hello #masterychat
Melissa, 7th Grade science from NY here. I will mostly be reading and following along bc I am too tired to think tonight. Still have 1 week of school left.
#MasteryChat Hello! Tina here. I'm a 7th grade ELA teacher in PA. One interesting fact about me is that I used to make my own jewelry (and sell some too).
Hey, #MasteryChat! I'm Kimberly from Nebraska, and I teach 7th grade ELA. Great to see @AllysonApsey moderating tonight! I'm super excited about her "secret"!🤫✨

Hey #masterychat! I'm Adam. Ill be popping in and out. I see @Stella_Pollard is here. I heard she is starting a bew wine, pizza and pd hashtag - #StellarED 😉
A1 - Recently read on @AceThatTest's blog (written by @pimpmymemory) about the effectiveness of long-hand note taking vs. slide annotations. Really interesting stuff and possibly counterintuitive to most S's beliefs:

A1: I have been learning about being a trauma-sensitive educator and I have learned so many new strategies to help not only my Ss, but my teachers and parents too. Being trauma-sensitive is really being people-sensitive. #MasteryChat#Path2Serendipity
A1: I would say the most impactful new thing is podcasting. Thanks @jmattmiller for getting me into listening to them and pushing me to start one of my own. This has pushed me to challenge myself to inspire my staff. #MasteryChat
A1) I learned that my students' parents do not hate projects that require some work on their part. 1 of our Ts requested the parents help make costumes, & she said they enjoyed it. So, I had my parents help their children make costumes for our animal book reading. #MasteryChat
A1) I'm currently in grad school for Ed. Admin and I've learned a lot about theory. Most practical thing though is from #BLinAction book in different ways to personalize instruction for S's, one thing I want to try: flipping some lessons to apply more in school #masterychat
A1: I am exploring what responsive teaching looks/sounds/feels like. Outside of education, I am learning how to sit with people and their stories. #MasteryChat
Hi everyone. I'm Carla, secondary principal from Santo Domingo, DR. Interesting fact: I went to university in France because it was free, but when I began I didn't speak any French #MasteryChat
A1 - I just recently relearned the importance of building relationships in schools! By doing this I have gained a trust with both my teachers and students! #MasteryChat
A1 I learned how to format cells in Google Sheets so it calculates for me. Made my end of year grading so much easier so I could spend more time talking to kids about their learning experience!! #MasteryChat

A1: I recently explored @Flipgrid license for my class next year, explored @Seesaw and @voicethread for digital portfolios, and love that @iSpringPro has a free video feature! Taking time to prepare over the summer break! #masterychat
A1 ive been learning all about spreadsheet functions! Notably Vlookups, nested IFs and random no. generators. They've been my latest posts at https://t.co/4GYFrLQPOX#masterychat
1) Reading #Factfulness right now by @HansRosling. An incredible book that reminds us that the world is doing better than we think. @BillGates said it's one of the most important books he's ever read and is willing to buy it for all US college grades this year. #masterychat
A1 A new thing that I have learned is how to create a DonorsChoose project. It is so great to be able to support my classroom without having to purchase everything myself. #MasteryChat
Non-school related I learned Canvas b/c I have the chance to tech for teachers for UGs this summer. School related I am learning to program with @SpheroEdu to use in my motion portions of phys sci. #MasteryChat
A1: I’m reading #tlap and I learned that I am a freak. 😂 I also learned that I’ve been a closet pirate and my school would watch out. It’s like everything I’ve ever wanted to be but for many reasons, have always felt out of place or inappropriate. But not anymore! #masterychat
A1. I recently learned that teachers are even more awesomer than I thought. Two great conferences this week with so many amazing teachers, just starting their summer break, yet working hard to keep learning. LOVE IT! #teachbetter#masterychat
A1: I’ve been reading about the power of Ss carrying around their own writing notebook to capture thoughts, ideas, etc in the moment. Excited to try it next year & live the positive impact on Ss writing! #masterychat
A1: I learned how to use Youtube Live. It has allowed me to start my new show "Edusations" where I talk with educators worldwide! First episode was just posted Monday! https://t.co/HWRz1Z2wSE#masterychat
#MasteryChat A1 One thing reccently learned is the importance of reading more. I am doing a writing unit, reading has improved my writing. I am more aware of the vocabulary and grammar I use.
#MasteryChat A1 ...I learnt about several aspects of myself .. one of them was my pensive side and I brought it to the fore through my facebook page and my blog
https://t.co/I3ko82eAx2
A1: I"m learning to look at my school through a lens of racial equity. At first I thought "I know this," but it's now impacting so many of my decisions for the betterment of my students. #MasteryChat
A1 for real though, I learned that blanket positivity can alienate those with mental health issues, also that sometimes it helps them. Basically, people are super complicated and we need to listen more #masterychat
I love my job! Supporting schools to support inclusion. I see you are an inclusive educator as well. You might like some of the graphics I make to support to my work. #masterychat

A1: Learning a lot about where education has come from, the history of public education and such, through my doctoral program. It's interesting. #masterychat
A1 I learned relentlessly pursuing your dreams for your life is one of the hardest, and most rewarding, things you will do in your life. #ForgeYourPath#masterychat
#masterychat a1 I thought I was over signing (#aus#auslan) but really I just needed to start studying English and bamn; all those crazy grammar rules of past tense had me thinking linguistics all over the place. Guess I was just over the old job and it was time to study again.
Q1: finished day 1 of #BCIUCore2018 and I learned how to implement new apps into the last 5 min of class. Looking forward to making each minute count! #MasteryChat@mattbergman14
#MasteryChat A1 "Mr. Toups, why are you so happy all the time" thus goes a question my Ss usually ask me each year. This spring I was able to write out my cycle of joy. My book coming out this fall talks about this.
A1: I learned how to use Youtube Live. It has allowed me to start my new show "Edusations" where I talk with educators worldwide! First episode was just posted Monday! https://t.co/HWRz1Z2wSE#masterychat
A1 I learned how to lead a TED-Ed Club this year, and how to edit a video to upload to YouTube.
I learned what to do to make next year even better. #masterychat
A1: I'm learning about @eduprotocols so that students can learn content over procedures. The book itself has impacted the way I view lessons and what should be meaningful. 🙂 #MasteryChat
A1. After attending 2 tech conferences over the last 2 weeks, I have learned that there are some great people out there trying to better themselves and their students. #MasteryChat
A1 I recently learned about the connections that participating in a twitter chat can build! I have an amazing #pln family in #122edchat#waledchat and have had so much support as I continue to grow and moderate a chat next week and launch my own #champforkids#masterychat
A1: ✨"Go to the people and the places that set a spark in your soul."✨
I've learned that if you surround yourself with people that fuel your energy and passion, you can accomplish just about anything you set your mind to! #MasteryChat
Hey Brian, how you been? Two really good books on this subject are Most Likely to Succeed and Excellent Sheep. Highly recommend for summer reading. #MasteryChat
A1 I learned how to create language dictionaries in Google Sheets. It has allowed my ELs to create easy and quick to easy dictiionaries in eah of their languages.
#MasteryChat
A2: I fail ALL the time! But, if I am learning, I don't really consider it a failure. I consider it a lesson. As a leader, modeling learning through failure is an important part of my job. I am really good at it too ;)
#MasteryChat#Path2Serendipity
A2: Understanding that failure is an integral part of the process helps me persevere. #MasteryChat you know, kinda like "it's not the destination, it's the journey."
A1: I learned how to use Twitter this year and it has had such a positive impact on my teaching. It has kept me energized and focused.
Not education related, but I learned how to make a Twix cake and they're delicious... It may have an impact on my waistline....😂
#MasteryChat
A1a: I just finished a PD all about the industries that our tech centers feed into. I had always had a bias that those industries were for people who couldn’t cut it in academia/traditional jobs... #MasteryChat
A1b: I was so wrong! I hope to take this new knowledge to help my Ss see why they need to learn things, even if they plan to go into those industries. #MasteryChat
A2 Stubborn belief that I could do achieve my goal still- it just might happen later than I hoped. It came from my husband, my parents, my daughter, my colleagues.
It was a painful process, but ultimately an empowering one.
#masterychat
Q2: agreed knowing the failure shows my students more. Specifically connecting our existing video camera to obs for green screen had to do some out of the box thinking. #MasteryChat
A1: I’ve been learning how valuable an opinion is and how important it is to open and honestly share them with others. I’ve found this really helping in leading my CAMPEL meetings with my team, it’s creating more positive discussions with our team. #MasteryChat
A2 I am not very good at making videos. I never know where to look and I make weird faces. I had to redo the video for #122edchat#culturize book club 5 times! #masterychat
Q2: Last summer, I learned how to watercolor. I had a hard time, but I persevered because I loved it and it was something I really wanted to do.
#MasteryChat
I keep persevering because I know my kids are watching. Oldest two with #autism faces challenges and roadblocks, & mistakes everyday. Then they get back up and do it again. If they can, I can too! #MAsteryChat
A2: I remember the first time I tried playing jazz with great players. I almost walked to the garbage to throw my instrument away. It took three more years and lots of determination to get to where I could really play #MasteryChat
A2) This year I used Words Their Way while the rest of my team focused on Jolly Phonics. They saw more transfer of the spelling patterns in S writing than I did. Next year I am focusing on Jolly Phonics. #MasteryChat
A2: Vision, values and my tribe helped me persevere. When you know where you’re going & who will support & love you...YOU will always persevere!🤗 #MasteryChat
A1: This week I learned how to solve the Rubik’s Cube. It has inspired me to learn other fun things that I thought were impossible and to love YouTube even more. #MasteryChat
A2 When we fail at learning something knew, it helps us to pivot back to our reason for learning the new thing in the first place. When we reflect on what motivated us in the beginning, it sparks the momentum we need to continue in spite of the obstacles we encounter #masterychat
A2 I think determination is what helps me keep moving and trying. If I think it is important enough then there has to be some way of making it happen. #MasteryChat
Q2: I fail every time I go to a yoga class. I just don't have a yoga body - tight hamstrings make downward dog impossible. Rather than give up, I've had to embrace that my love of it matters more than my limitations. #MasteryChat
A2 Over the past 2 years we've been developing individualized weekly PD for our Ts. Lots & lots of failure, before it started to truly come together! #MasteryChat
#MasteryChat Q2 I failed a maths diagnostic assessment in my university degree. I persevered with as my motivation to be able to teach was overwhelming. The tutor was very passionate about helping me achieve my best.
Holy cow...how many times have I failed? Every. Single. Day. How do you get through? Change the way you look at failure. Every failure is an OPPORTUNITY to learn something new, grow, and be better. #masterychat
A2) Encouragement from those "above me." It's incredibly freeing to have your boss look at you in the eye after you've failed at something (not everything), to have them tell you they're proud of your effort, and to help you get better.
#masterychat
A2: I remember being in a college course and doing poorly on an exam. At first, I was upset due to struggling with the content, but I thought back to the fact that I could be THAT teacher who helps a struggling student and knew that I needed to keep going. #masterychat
#MasteryChat Q2 I failed a maths diagnostic assessment in my university degree. I persevered with as my motivation to be able to teach was overwhelming. The tutor was very passionate about helping me achieve my best.
A2: I am currently trying to learn Spanish for my kids and it is a daily struggle. I push through because I want to be better for them and help them be better. #MasteryChat
It is through TED-Ed. You can apply to lead your own club which leads kids through the steps to make a TED Talk. You can upload them to their YouTube Channel. There is a lot of info on the website. #masterychat
A2: I tried a new awesome lesson paired with technology and it totally failed. My students told me, “failure is the first step on learning!” Love my SS!!! @SSCMSStallions#MasteryChat
Hi #MasteryChat Ste pool h Dill in Colorado, jumping in late. When I fail which is often I think about my why for learning or doing and then I keep on going. We are all learning and growing, failing is just part of that.
A2: I go through these epic failures and epic successes with my experimentation of in-class flips with my class such as shortages of devices and awesome student reflections! #masterychat
A2 - I fail all the time! I have learned to not let my failure define me but to help refine me! If you aren’t failing then you are trying! #MasteryChat
Q2: Last summer, I learned how to watercolor. I had a hard time, but I persevered because I loved it and it was something I really wanted to do.
#MasteryChat
A2-I struggled with how to integrate tech into my math practice this year when we started a 1-to-1 chromebook initiative at the beginning of this year. I tried a lot of things that didn't work. Ultimately, I refused to give up and I continued to work hard for my Ss. #MasteryChat
Hi #masterychat! Erin from RI.
A1. I’m currently learning how to start a non-profit.. totally out of my realm as an English teacher! It’s a networking group for young educators (@yesriorg)
A1. I recently learned that teachers are even more awesomer than I thought. Two great conferences this week with so many amazing teachers, just starting their summer break, yet working hard to keep learning. LOVE IT! #teachbetter#masterychat
A2 I hate not being able to get something. Wanting that satisfaction of knowing I can do it really pushed me. Google sheets is now understand-able. #MasteryChat
A2: I am currently trying to learn Spanish for my kids and it is a daily struggle. I push through because I want to be better for them and help them be better. #MasteryChat
A2: This year, I felt like I was failing as principal of a challenging 9th grade. But then I saw that we just needed a different approach-- as an educator, I believe all kids are brilliant, and I just needed to remind myself of that. #masterychat
You're good at all that multitasking. It's like you were built for it. I am doing well. Writing again. Surprise surprise. #MasteryChat Feels good to breathe a little, or maybe soon for you..
A2: 2 years ago was a tough year. at the end, I called a trusted admin., @m_schoeneberger who changed my perspective and gave me common sense advice. I ran with it and I haven’t looked back. I did learn not to wait until the year was over to ask for help, though! #MasteryChat
A2 my whole #gamification experience has been one of,learning from failure. My 1st year I was focused on Leaderboards. Wasnt the most powerful motivator and I moved onto other (better) strategies. #MasteryChat
A2: I always like a challenge and accomplishing my goals. If things frustrate me I find a deeper appreciation for them. The desire to succeed and feel accomplished is what drives me to try hard things. #MasteryChat
Yes! It can be so difficult to speak when you know it is not a popular opinion. Pushing boundries and challenging when something isn't right for kids is so important! It gets easier the more you do it! #masterychat
True point, Jeff. It's important that we are intentional about viewing failures as opportunities to learn and grow. As leaders, we are charged to help our team develop this perspective as we navigate difficulties and learn from them together @jeffgargas#MasteryChat
Yep...and...
teachers when dealing with students...
parents when dealing with kids...
coaches when dealing with athletes...
directors dealing with casts...
etc...
If we treat people according to their potential and not their failures, incredible things happen.
#masterychat
#masterychat a2 I started out studying to be an interpreter and failed big time. But I was meant to do something with the language and so I kept going and bamn now I have taught it! So was meant to be a teacher. Karma @skymazef3
A2: Everytime I fail at something, I have to remember that practice, effort, and determination are key. Things you truly want are worth the attempted fails. #MasteryChat
A2: ✨Failure doesn't phase me! ✨I see it as an opportunity to try again a different way! I absolutely love this YouTube video, it's the perfect example of having a growth mindset! #MasteryChathttps://t.co/hQUqvU8BDG
A2: I used to “fail” with technology all the time. Mostly because I would quit so easily. I challenged myself to embrace a #GrowthMindset with tech & it has changed my life in the most amazing ways. I love learning new tech stuff now. #GrowthMindset - so powerful. #MasteryChat 🌱
A2 I never really think of these things as failing. I’m just not done yet, need more time.
Failing is what happened when I tried to re-tile the bathroom floor and lay fresh concrete. I ended up paying someone else! #MAsteryChat
#MasteryChat Q2 I failed a maths diagnostic assessment in my university degree. I persevered with as my motivation to be able to teach was overwhelming. The tutor was very passionate about helping me achieve my best.
A2: What helped was that I really wanted to make it work. I was coding with Adafruit Circuit Playground and it wasn't doing what I wanted. #masterychat
A2. It’s so important to treat every mistake as a learning moment. If we can’t grow, how can we expect that from our Ss? Equal (but high) expectations for all. #MasteryChat
A2: I persevere by looking for new learning in the failure. As long as I can learn something, whether about myself, my students, the content, mindset, etc, then what might appear as a failure is actually a success! #masterychat
A2: There are many times when I’ve failed to remember that failure is an opportunity! It was in those moments that I cultivated the ability to persevere. #masterychat
As a new teacher, I just want to say that I am immensely inspired by all of you who joined this chat during the evening when it is summer break. You do what you do because you care immensely, and your passion is truly undeniable. You are all rockstars! #masterychat
A2: I persevere by looking for new learning in the failure. As long as I can learn something, whether about myself, my students, the content, mindset, etc, then what might appear as a failure is actually a success! #masterychat
A2: tbh, this has never been a strong suit for me. I remember as a child, I would get so frustrated with my parents trying to teach me to ride a bike. It wasn’t until I just decided one day (much later) that I was going to ride that I could. #MasteryChat
A2: When I started learning French (I am still an intermediate/beginner) it was really hard and I felt I was failing and not progressing fast enough. I kept going because I had small successes and those kept me motivated. #MasteryChat
#MasteryChat A2 . I'd love to talk at length about this , but it's something I am still learning to deal with , when I push it in the past I'll be able to express better ,maybe
A1: I’ve learned the importance of PD, especially geared towards things I am passionate about. It really gets me supercharged for the fall and beyond. #masterychat
A2 Seven year ago I thought I had plateaued as a T Tried something new "Science Writing Heuristic" & it changed my career Thx Jay Staker & Brian Hand! #masterychat
Brian from IL checking in late...summer mentality
As a Principal, I just want to say that it's inspiring to see you, a new teacher, giving up your night to invest in yourself and to add value to all of us. You're going to be great!
#masterychat
As a new teacher, I just want to say that I am immensely inspired by all of you who joined this chat during the evening when it is summer break. You do what you do because you care immensely, and your passion is truly undeniable. You are all rockstars! #masterychat
A3: The more well-rounded my learning experiences are as an adult, the more well-rounded learning experiences I can cultivate for students. #masterychat
Like the inclusion of effort and determination, Stacey. Also important that we teach our Ss the value of these skills as they prepare to graduate and enter the world of career and college @Stacey__Spears#MasteryChat
Hi #masterychat! Erin from RI.
A1. I’m currently learning how to start a non-profit.. totally out of my realm as an English teacher! It’s a networking group for young educators (@yesriorg)
A3: As a new teacher, I am transitioning from being a full time student to being a full time educator. I am excited for this journey ahead, but due to being fresh out of college, I bring those experiences with me in hopes of reaching my amazing future Ss. #masterychat
It’s the natural progression. Doing the “podcast circuit” reminded just how much I love talking about mentoring. I need to write more about it #MAsteryChat
A2: I used it as a learning experience. I know that I will never repeat that mistake, and I learned how to handle that situation correctly. Having a growth mindset allowed me to learn and grow from that experience. #MasteryChat
A3: We are asking our Ss to learn all day, every day. If we are learning constantly ourselves, it is much easier to empathize with them and empower them as learners. #MasteryChat#Path2Serendipity
A3 I never stop learning. I’ve learned so much from my PLN, my students, and what I read. They are positively impacted from what I learn and what they teach me too. #masterychat
As a PST from Australia you continue to inspire me! I host and co host chats because of your inspiration. You being a PST and now a new teacher, has helped me grow! Love following your journey!
A3- I think with everything we do as teachers, we are modeling the types of behavior we want to see out of our students. So when I tell them my own experiences as a lifelong learner, I am being a role model for them in their own lives. #masterychat
A2: My dad taught me that quitting was unacceptable and raised me to be determined. When I fail at something I hear my dad's voice in my head telling me "Don't cry. Try again." He is a great encourager and always knows what I need to hear to keep going. #MasteryChat
A3: If we live as life long learners, we remember the challenges of learning new content and are more patient with our kids. We also learn new ideas to implement in the classroom to make learning REAL for the kids. #MasteryChat
A3: They say to teach writing, you need to be a writer. I think in order to be the most effective teacher you can be, you need to always be in learner mode! #MasteryChat
A2: I’m a competitor, and I’ve failed to “win” a LOT. Knowing that there are bigger and better opportunities out there keeps me from the tears and ice cream container. #masterychat
A3- I get intensely excited about everyday things- we'll stop everything to watch a flock of pigeons outside out window and make predictions- where will they land? Why are they flying in that formation? etc. My Ss know that I value wonder and it shows #MasteryChat
A3)My experiences as a second-language learner of Spanish helps me to understand my students' needs & challenges as mostly 2nd language learners. This helps me iwith my instruction. #MasteryChat
A1: I have learned the importance of my students seeing me make mistakes and correcting them. Learning this has relieved a lot of pressure to be perfect and has made teaching more fun! #masterychat
Right back at you Susan. You have so much wonder and excitement for teaching that you keep on going to become better and #TeachBetter for all your incoming ss. Keep on going my friend. #MasteryChat
A3: I try to share with students the fact that I am human and have failed at certain things. I think it's important to be vulnerable with them because you are more relatable that way. Modeling resilience is a good way to encourage them to go on. #MasteryChat
A2: This year, I felt like I was failing as principal of a challenging 9th grade. But then I saw that we just needed a different approach-- as an educator, I believe all kids are brilliant, and I just needed to remind myself of that. #masterychat
A3: Was reflecting on this based on a recent grad assignment that I did not find relevant/authentic. It has helped me realize the need for authentic learning activities for my Ss! #masterychat
A3
NEVER
STOP
TRYING!!!!
I am always trying to get better When my Ss see I live being a #LifeLongLearner they get motivated to do the same #MasteryChat
Q3 Today when I told my kids I'd be taking an Advanced Spanish Grammar course this summer they called me a geek. Then said "That's impressive Srta. You keep learning for you and for us!" #masterychat
A2 A time I failed when learning something new was when I tried to do too much. I had just been to a conference on centers and there were so many great ideas, I had to narrow my focus. I had to reflect and add things one at a time #MasteryChat
Right back at you Susan. You have so much wonder and excitement for teaching that you keep on going to become better and #TeachBetter for all your incoming ss. Keep on going my friend. #MasteryChat
A3 As educators we have a responsibility to dig in and learn daily . We also must be conscious about our own learning needs and use the new information that we learn to help support our Ss growth #masterychat
A3. I'm fairly smart and I struggle. I have a bad day every now and then. I have to remember my kids are the same. A little empathy can go along way. #MasteryChat
A3: I try to be aware of Ss’ limits, while also expecting their best. I tell them all the time that I’m not looking for perfection (which is my personal hurdle), but I’m looking for them to give it their best shot. #MasteryChat
A3 My experience as a learner reminds me that the struggle is the learning part and I find it easier to highlight that for other learners. I think it helps them to embrace the struggle and push on. #MasteryChat
A3) When we engage in learning as professionals, we're reminding of what works in teaching. We can't expect students to grasp content and skills that we're incapable of grasping as adults because of mediocre instructional strategies.
#MasteryChat
A3 I am,always in the process of learning either new content or techniques. Right now Im ready Grant. So much nuance that is not 'in the standards' but explain other elements. Without content knowledge all th coaching/facilitating is misguided. #MasteryChat
Students will follow what we do & say! I learn with them and help them through the celebrations & struggles. My learning impacts them because it keeps me fresh and motivated to help them find success!!! #MasteryChat
A3: It helps remind me of the frustration that can show, and that overcoming it and controlling the emotions are key to getting to the solution #masterychat
A3: ✨OPEN YOUR EYES & LOOK AROUND!✨Think about it... would you want to be a learner in your class? Would you want to be doing what your students are doing right now? Reflect. #MasteryChat#TLAP
A1: not so much learned, but rather embraced... writing more in my content area: math! I have been reading articles and analyzing data to help support the integration of writing in our curriculum this summer. #MasteryChat
A3: We are constantly learning -- big ideas and small ones as adults. Experiencing this brings me pure joy & impacts the relationship I have with students. I want them to feel the joy of understanding and applying and creating. #MasteryChat#JoyfulLeaders
A3: I was one of those freaks who loved to learn. You asked me to write? I’d write 10 pages. You give me an extra credit physics? Done, just because it was fun. So I have a hard time relating to those who shut down. #MasteryChat
A3 As a learner i know that i'm not always the first to get it, i need lots of practice, i don't care about letter grades, i lose things and i turn things in late. But i LOVE to learn. This helps me connect with a lot of my kids #MasteryChat
#MasteryChat q3 As a PST learning is so important. I did some PD on teaching Science and maths and this really made me more confident on my practicum and deliver more authentic and engaging experiences to Ss.
A3) Showing your learning and what your struggling with will help students relate to what you are working on and how to grow. Working together to develop a growth mindset. #masterychat
A2 I took on the stem robotics club with ZERO knowledge of robotics! I failed week after week! Coding, soldering, etc kept going bc each wk my kids and I discovered that within our failures we always learned something new! Made it to the semifinals 😉 #champforkids#masterychat
A3: So much of my learning was intended to be auditory or drill/kill, while I can listen, I learn better by doing. I’m such a hands on learner. Because of this, I try to provide a diverse program so all of my Ss can feel successful with technology. #MasteryChat
#masterychat A3 Your experiences as a learner should impact ALL of your strategies to help the Ss learn. Another topic of my book. Use your past (both good and bad) to impact your Ss. TELL YOUR STORY to your Ss. #AlwaysBelieve
Q3: It is EVERYTHING! The more I learn, the more I can share. The more I learn, the better role model I can be for Ss. The more I learn, the more empathetic (and patient) I can be when Ss struggle. #MasteryChat
A3: as a learner I struggle with certain tasks. As a kiddo I really struggled with reading. I use my experience to empathize with my kiddos. I truly do feel their frustration. #MAsteryChat
A3 I have always loved being a learner and grew up in a house in which I was taught to have high expectations for myself and I carry that over to my teaching -- I try to get my kids to feel the same way. If we don't have high expectations for ourselves, who will? #MasteryChat
A4: history teacher who taught that all experiences can support our future. As I told the kids, "those who fail history are doomed to repeat it." Modeling growth pushes them forward. #MasteryChat
A3: First chat. Hopefully I get this right. The last month of school I had an inspiring conversation with my AP and realized I needed to look into standards based grading. I became a learner again and even presented my learning so far to my students. They loved it. #MasteryChat
Q3 Today when I told my kids I'd be taking an Advanced Spanish Grammar course this summer they called me a geek. Then said "That's impressive Srta. You keep learning for you and for us!" #masterychat
A3: 5 yrs ago I started taking piano lessons. The frustration & confusion at times was something not experienced for a long time. It reminded me how Ss might feel in some subjects. I carry that memory w/ me in the classroom when working w/ Ss who don’t get it...yet! #masterychat
#masterychat a3 Having being an weirdo outsider; I loved words in a school that thought books were dirty words. I think I can see when going with the flow is not healthy and how to teach differently with ss (esp. curric for aphasic ss)
A3: They say to teach writing, you need to be a writer. I think in order to be the most effective teacher you can be, you need to always be in learner mode! #MasteryChat
A3: We are constantly learning -- big ideas and small ones as adults. Experiencing this brings me pure joy & impacts the relationship I have with students. I want them to feel the joy of understanding and applying and creating. #MasteryChat#JoyfulLeaders
Great reminder for all conference attendees. Try to find one or two things that you can apply and really focus on those. It's easy to walk away from conferences feeling like you didn't get anything because you ran from one place to the next without a plan.
#masterychat
A2 A time I failed when learning something new was when I tried to do too much. I had just been to a conference on centers and there were so many great ideas, I had to narrow my focus. I had to reflect and add things one at a time #MasteryChat
A3 When I was younger learning came very easily. I loved to read and was very eager to please. My siblings however had several LDs. So I always remember to try different approaches and be patient. We all move at our own pace. It’s not a sprint. #MasteryChat
My experiences as a learner aren’t that far removed from theirs. We all struggle with content. It reminds us that learning isn’t the same for everyone and the need for different strategies #MasteryChat
A3: As a learner, I reflect on how I learned, what I liked and disliked about how I was taught. Then I share my reflections with those I teach and engage in conversations about it. I adjust my teaching to the outcomes of the conversations. #MasteryChat
A3 - we are suppose model what we expect so our experience as a learner impacts our students in the way it impacts ourselves. If we view learning as for the students an not for us then we won’t be successful but if we are life long learners then the students will #MasteryChat
A3 I always ask myself: "Would I want to be a student in my class?" I don't always like the answer I find. When that happens, back to the drawing board I go! #masterychat
You passion for life-long learning inspires your students, makes them recognise the value of learning on the go and draw their own pathway of learning on their own.#MasteryChat
A3: I constantly talk to my students about what I’m learning and how I continue to better myself as a teacher. I tell them about my conferences and often tell them they’ll be guinea pigs as we experiment with things. #MasteryChat
A3b:what I do have are orthopedic struggles to relate to. Just like ss feel like they are looked at as unable to learn, have school anxiety and may not have been treated very well, I can relate to that. Past experiences can do damage. And it’s not about us. #MasteryChat
A3 #MasteryChat I wasn't the best reader it wasn't until 12th grade that a teacher found books I could relate to & wanted to read. I don't want my students to have to wait that long. I work hard to expose them to the books that will get them reading now.
A3: Just being open to all and any approaches to learning! Nothing is ever too crazy and it’s ok if a student gets it better from a peer(s)! #masterychat
What an interesting pespective! I would love to hear more about how this has changed the way you teach. Let's connect outside of Twitter sometime, Tami! #masterychat
A3: Plot twist: I’m having to be a learner in a entirely new way with two little ones (3rd and pre-k). Challenged me to think differently and lead differently. #MasteryChat
A3: My experience as a learner is what made me want to be a T. Although, I don't have a disability I struggled learning to read due to chronic ear infections & went to reading resource for years. Amazing Ts gave me the gift of reading & I wanted to pay it forward. #MasteryChat
You're right, Angelo. That is what makes our profession both a craft and a science. Many can know information, but the demonstrated ability to craft a valuable learning experience so our Ss truly learn the information is special @MrDelliSanti#MasteryChat
A3: I think about the way I learn. I try to make sure that assignments are authentic so that students are engaged and get the most out of the lesson. #MasteryChat
#MasteryChat A3. Keeping communication channels open is what I advocate and what I follow. My students know my strengths and my weakness as therefore we learn and teach together . That helps greatly
A3: Positioning myself as a co-learner alongside Ss is a great way to use my experience as a learner. When Ts & Ss learn together, the possibilities are endless! #masterychat
You're right, Angelo. That is what makes our profession both a craft and a science. Many can know information, but the demonstrated ability to craft a valuable learning experience so our Ss truly learn the information is special @MrDelliSanti#MasteryChat
Absolutely, I would love to. Any time. Living in Mexico and not being a native Spanish speaker has definitely stretched me as a person (in a good way)! :) #masterychat
A2: Reaching out to my teacher friends always helps me to get through failures. They can give insight and offer words of encouragement and wisdom to help me along. #StrongerTogether#MasteryChat
A2: Most of the time what helps me persevere is money. The desire to NOT pay someone else for something I could do. I'm teaching summer school & I think more Ss would perservere if they realized the difference a diploma can make on their future money. #MasteryChat
A3: I constantly talk to my students about what I’m learning and how I continue to better myself as a teacher. I tell them about my conferences and often tell them they’ll be guinea pigs as we experiment with things. #MasteryChat
A2: I really wanted to learn how to horseback ride, but I was pretty terrified. I really wanted to learn, so I spoke to the instructor about coming to a second class each week, not to ride, but just to watch, to try to become more comfortable. #masterychat
A2 Sharing my failures & struggles with a trusted colleague or friend always helps me to move forward. Reviewing what I could have done differently with someone who is probably more gentle with me than I would be always helps. #MasteryChat
A3: The simple act of going to the gym requires courage, self-reflection, honesty, drive. In this, I see myself as a learner and I'm constantly reminded of how challenging learning is. #masterychat

Last week we had a whole slew of books shared that teachers were reading this summer- here it is!
https://t.co/ydUGzr5cNJ#masterychat

A3: I consider myself a life-long learner. I want that for my students as well so I try to making learning fun and engaging. I create experiences through classroom transformations. #MasteryChat

#masterychat
A3 I am a learner that loves to dig in and get messy! I relate to Ss who are curious and need time to ask ?s and learn about a topic beyond just reading an article or book! I like depth and connections in my learning so that is what I work to provide! #champforkids#masterychat
A3: At times I have struggled as a learner and I try to remember the feeling of overwhelm and frustration when students approach me for help #MasteryChat

I will admit at times I have to swallow some frustrations though, kids don’t find as many things amazing or interesting as I do

A2: Started a #Minecraft#Writing club w 12 boys ages 8-10 this year. Had to learn how to build worlds and speak their game language. Struggled but loved to see their eyes light up when they taught me something & I finally grasped it 💪💪💪 #MasteryChat
#MasteryChat we must remember that people are watching to see how we handle our shortcomings or failures. The reality is remember your purpose. Remember why you are engaging in the learning process and that is to make the 🌍 a better place.
#MasteryChat A5 . I have adopted the @thegridmethod for taking my students through the content. Few Ss have signed up, am at level 2. hoping this will bring in organisation and a better understanding for my Ss. Parents are happy that Ss have volunteered to work thru the summer
A5 I want to add more choices in my class. Really knowing the content( I am in a new grade level) and new ways to engage Ss will make choices more authentic. Any SEL pd would be great. We have so many Ss with more needs, I need more strategies to meet their needs #MasteryChat
A5: I teach engineering classes and part of the class involves building robots and coding. If I'm better at coding I can push them further and they'll be more inspired and motivated. #MasteryChat

I read #kidsdeserveit last summer and loved it. I'm reading Inclusion in Action: Practical Strategies to Modify Your Curriculum and The Inclusion Toolbox: Strategies and Techniques for All Teachers, as well as The Wild Card this summer. #MasteryChat
A2: my parents taught me grit and determination and as a competitive figure skater I learned to fail and keep trying, to be disappointed and then set goals. As a teacher, making mistakes/ failing helps me live the model of having a growth mindset&the power of yet. #MAsteryChat
A6: I’d like to get further in coding for professional/personal use.
I would also like to get back to running. I need to learn how to make an exercise schedule and stick to it. Not extremely fun but a true “want”. #MasteryChat
#masterychat A6 I love baking apple pies from scratch including the crust. My crust tastes good, but it isn't "pleasing to the eye". Would love to learn how to make my delicious apple pie look as good as it tastes. #AlwaysBelieve
#MasteryChat A3: I try to put myself back in the place when I was young like the student and really, really wanted to learn something, but just didn't have the communication skills quite yet to tell my teachers and other adults to just be understanding and patient with me.
A6: I'd like to learn to using a sewing machine. I can sew by hand pretty well, but if I could use the machine I could make some good stuff. #MasteryChat#growthmindset#learnsomethingnew
Install a tile backsplash but we need a new counter, and cabinets, and drywall...basically a new kitchen but I want to do much of it myself. #MasteryChat
A3: I understand their struggles and the fear of failure. I can relate to their feelings of frustration when they feel like they failed and their sense of accomplishment when they achieve a goal. #MAsteryChat
A6: I’ve been watching @CaseyNeistat on YouTube - as a YouTube creator, I find his work inspiring & great to learn new video techniques - and now I would love to learn to ride a @BoostedBoards & fly a drone, haha! #masterychat
A5/A6. I want to get better at conducting for our musical next season so I’m going with the awesome @CharihoHUM ladies to PD in NYC this summer that will not only be super fun but will also benefit this growing program! #MasteryChat
A6: I would love to learn how to curl. I was so fascinated by it on the Olympics this year that I want to learn how to throw the rock and sweep the ice! #curling#MasteryChat
