  • MundodePepita May 3 @ 8:09 PM EDT
#earlylang A1 contact time often determines what instruction we can provide, how far our kiddos can advance in the time w us
  • suarez712002 May 3 @ 8:10 PM EDT
A1 Because time and motivation and key in SLA #earlylang
  • magistertalley May 3 @ 8:10 PM EDT
A1 more time=more potential for input=higher probability of acquisition. Better to have Ss for frequent short small sessions #earlylang
  • nathanlutz - Moderator May 3 @ 8:10 PM EDT
#earlylang A1: I’ve been in a few types of programs - contact time is important. I think greater frequency is more imp that longer classes.
  • KrotzerK May 3 @ 8:10 PM EDT
A1 Routines! and time with the target language. Daily contact makes us part of ss learning day as a core subject #EarlyLang
  • srtacoulehan May 3 @ 8:11 PM EDT
A1 only time they are immersed in the language.. The more contact time, the more input! right, @skrashen & @teawithbvp ? #earlylang
  • tmsaue1 May 3 @ 8:11 PM EDT
A1 yes it is important but it often is out of the control of teachers #EarlyLang
  • MundodePepita May 3 @ 8:11 PM EDT
#earlylang A1 I would prefer more frequent, shorter classes over longer, less frequent classes; keeps the momentum going better I think
  • doriecp May 3 @ 8:11 PM EDT
So true. It's very hard to establish good routines when you don't see your students frequently. #EarlyLang
    In reply to @KrotzerK
  • kellycondon May 3 @ 8:11 PM EDT
Q1: The brains of #earlylang learners are like sponges. The more they're given, the more they can absorb!
  • lunden_amanda May 3 @ 8:11 PM EDT
A1: We should always have high expectations for our students, but we can typically expect more retention from Ss we see more. #EarlyLang
  • glendadehoyos May 3 @ 8:11 PM EDT
A/1 #earlylang Contact time is very important for every subject, but for early language learners it's essential.
  • srtacoulehan May 3 @ 8:11 PM EDT
A1 short, frequent bursts of language are key and also developmentally appropriate. Leave them wanting more! #earlylang
  • sra_lade May 3 @ 8:12 PM EDT
A1 Ss need to hear and read LOTS of language to acquire it #earlylang
  • doriecp May 3 @ 8:12 PM EDT
Love this! Without seeing our students, how can we ensure they are getting comprehensible input? #EarlyLang
  • tmsaue1 May 3 @ 8:13 PM EDT
I agree frequency trumps total time. My daughters school changed schedule. Time was the same but less frequent. Kids hate it. #EarlyLang
    In reply to @nathanlutz
  • doriecp May 3 @ 8:13 PM EDT
Me too, our program changed to the opposite of what you described and it hasn't been the same since. :( #earlylang

    In reply to @tmsaue1
  • sra_lade May 3 @ 8:14 PM EDT
