A1: I had a teacher who had us all make bumper stickers about a Victorian novel we’d read that semester. She had the best bumper sticker made into a cake, and served the cake to us on our last day of class. #ycsdchat
A1--personally I use Microsoft forms BYOT for student Prime Times (Don Nows) and Exit slips...chance to ask open ended, relevant, HOT questions #ycsdchat
A1: BYOT is a little different in the elementary classroom, in my experience. However, I have had my 5th graders use their personal devices for Kahoot! #ycsdchat
A1: I have put out QR codes for parents and teachers to access to gain more information about something, and I have created QR code scavenger hunts for students with YES technology. #ycsdchat
A2- for me, it's the fact that students have different devices. It can be hard to predict and give instructions when things may look different for each kid! #ycsdchat
A2 biggest challenge is monitoring 28-30 teens using it for right instructional purposes at all times and not using it for non-instructional purpose like snapchat, etc. #ycsdchat
A1 Love how Joe Sanfelippo shared student learning with community members via video. We are doing so many great things that people don't know about! #YCSDchat
A2: The biggest challenge I’m having with BYOT, other than students not having a device or getting distracted from class work by their device, is that some of my students have found ways to hack Kahoot! such that 300+ participants are responding to the quiz. #ycsdchat
A2: BYOT in YCSD only includes e-readers for grades 3 and 4. So, 5th graders are the only ones who could BYOT in the elementary school. That definitely creates a challenge and requires more school-owned tech. #ycsdchat
A2. In elementary school the students are not able to log into the network. We have enough laptops in the classroom for the students to each have their own device. I have also had students using unapproved apps during field trips when they BYOD #ycsdchat
A1: Having multiple devices can allow you to learn and explore in so many more interactive ways. Padlet, kahoot, hyperdocs, collaboration through G-suite and Google classroom! #ycsdchat

A3-my answer to A1 - using microsoft forms is excellent way to use it to begin/end/ or within lessons to formatively assess and ask students to critically think about content without fear of wrong answer #ycsdchat

Have you used Microsoft Forms? Students can use their Office 365 accounts to get it, so you don't have to worry about them putting in their names. #ycsdchat
I bet more of them have their own technology than we think! Some K teachers at YES were sharing how shocking a keyboard and mouse can be to touch-tech saavy 5 year olds! #ycsdchat
A3: I've been using mentimeter. I like that you can have the poll throughout the lesson (different questions come up with the leader prompts them). Plus you can have the answers look like a wordle, which is fun! #ycsdchat
Checking in on ycsdchat. France recently banned cell phones in schools. As a teacher you are often stuck between giving them time to get work done and watching them diving into the cell phone rabbit hole. #ycsdchat
I keep a couple Ipads in my room for this very reason so these students can still participate in BYOT part of lesson like the others. Also find that my kids are kind and inclusive and let students login to form on their devices to participate. #ycsdchat
Hi Lori!!! So happy you are joining the chat tonight! #ycsdchat. And I agree, we need to continue to address digital equity to better support our students.
A4--intrigued--haven't made this jump yet but trying to put together review lessons for students wishing to retake tests in a format like this...Khan academy is always great as a tool for self-paced lessons. #ycsdchat
A4 self paced lessons meet needs of some students My general perception is that many students don't know what to do as their own guide. They don't know what they don't know #ycsdchat
A3 I went to an Alan November convention a couple of years ago. Honors students presented. The students made short tutorial videos for other students for content that was difficult. They formed a club that took requests and then created and posted tutorial videos #YCSDchat
A4- In my experience, making sure self-paced lessons are differentiated is just as important as regular lessons! If it is too challenging, some kids will be overwhelmed. Other kids will need extension activities. #ycsdchat
You can even do that with a powerpoint by sharing the file and having students click on links to forms within the slides. @MicrosoftTeams even lets you have students edit the slides and turn in as assignment! #ycsdchat

I've had that same problem with tech-less lessons! Chunking the assignment and reiterating the importance of deadlines is my only solution. Anyone else have ideas? #ycsdchat
Many are not-you are correct...I'm purposeful in as I tell my students participating IRL--my text, tweet, etc. can wait--time with students, colleagues, family are more valuable if spent with intentional purpose rather than distractions #ycsdchat

A4: Shameless Google lover here! 😍. Google classroom allowed me to create individualized assignments for students, alter the content and adjust based on strengths and needs. Assign a Google Classroom and it all looks the same, but meets many needs. #ycsdchat
A4: In the library, students can check out ebooks from their electronic devices. Since more than one person can check out the same ebook, they can read their book without having to rush their pleasure. #selfpace#ycsdchat
#ycsdchat When I was in school for my master's, I was at least 10 years older than most of my classmates... I was legitimately SHOCKED at high-level college students facebooking during lectures. It's cultural, but most of them still excelled. It's their norm.
I've had several students ask me in class if they can listen to music while taking a quiz? No!!! Focus is an issue. Students with ADHD or an IEP about being distracted in class with a cell phone with unlimited data is not helpful. Using technology has to be planned X10. #ycsdchat
I love using Google Classroom and ANY google app! I have used it to share resources and have tested out the quiz/assignment features too. Will need to play with it some more! #ycsdchat
I recently started using Google Forms for quizzes and assignments-- for staff members-- but want to try it with my students as a way to check for understanding quickly! #ycsdchat
YCSD and YCPL have partnered to offer e-book check outs to all YCSD students. I'm interested in promoting that more this year in the YES library. #ycsdchat
A5: An area of growth for me, but this year my students have to create capstone and I imagine we will use Google Slides or Drive for products-- so we will be learning together #ycsdchat
Have you guys used @Flipgrid? It's so easy for students to use to create a video response. Students who struggle with writing get to respond verbally! It's great for presentations where you can grade later and students can watch & respond to a few. #ycsdchat
A5: I am dying to use Flipgrid and catch #flipgridfever -- just working to try to get it set up in my class to use with students to have them use a different tool to show their thinking! #ycsdchat
I think we actually used Microsoft Story or MovieMaker and then uploaded the products to Youtube Channel and they were showcased throughout the year on the Video Student Announcements #ycsdchat
Q5 Working with @chelseifox to use MicrosoftTeams to record lab reports, and the new camera app’s features annotating pictures from the experiment #ycsdchat
A5: I'm planning green screen projects for students in all grades this year in the library. I'm hoping that some of my Ss have experience from their own devices when it comes to making these movies in the library! I'd also like to try using @Flipgrid for book talks #ycsdchat
A7: Finding book talks/reviews that already exist for books in our library and putting QR codes on the books so Ss can access them while they're browsing. Phase two would be making our own talks/reviews to be viewed! #Goals#ycsdchat
Hey @FalconsYHS Do you think some of your Ss would be willing to do book talks/reviews for their favorite books when they were in elementary school? That would be a neat collaboration for our kiddos! Think about it! #ycsdchat
A6: I work with preschoolers so I would love for try going on a scavenger hunt where they take pics with IPADS or creating videos about things they've learned. #ycsdchat
