Tonight we have Open Forum night. That means all are welcome to ask questions, share ideas or go in any direction that is on your mind. Share away! #ATchat
Had a lucky day in this regard got to hang with one of my favorite students Currently on hospital homebound at home/iep meetings with his new therapy dog are the best #ATchat
I've been swamped with AT Evaluation requests, even though we are trying to move toward AT Consultation instead. Is that working any better for you? #ATchat
Worked with a 3rd grade S this week who is reading, writing and spelling at a first grade level. Get him text to speech, word prediction and multimedia tools, STAT! #ATchat
AT screeners are reducing that for me, but weāve also had a sharp increase in Ss with very complex needs so it doesnāt seem like it has. I did the math earlier this month to prove I wasnāt going crazy.
Some of the teachers that I work with really like this tool. Using it in a variety of different ways. One teacher uses it for students to create a digital portfolio for them to share with their parents during conferences/meetings #atchat
Seesaw is an electronic portfolio tool that works for home/school communication also. Students can take pictures of their work, add text and video or audio recordings. It really is awesome - look into it! #ATchat
Famous answer - It. Depends. For Ss that will need lots of higher end equipment, the full eval is a support towards funding because it pushes for more data accountability #ATchat
Based on SETT, team @ school completes S, E, T... we do consult/orbs for suggestions for more T. Less paperwork so quicker tools in hands process #ATchat
I have a district that recently started a 1:1 chromebook initiative. Teachers that I have supported have found success with Google Voice typing and Kami. #ATChat
If the resources exist within the program, we collaborate and coach; when additional individualized (deducted) supports are required, we assess. #ATchat
With a consult, we can quickly consider SET and make the Tool recomendations to Trial. Return in two to four weeks and assess implementation and response and make new recommendations if needed. Its quicker implementation #ATchat
I set up the AT screen to parallel the RtI intervention model since my district understood that language. So, no, itās not in IDEA in this form, but itās best practice for interventions which has helped the buy in #ATchat
I've found that learning to speak RTI language instead of "consult" terminology can be helpful with educators & administrators who aren't so familiar with AT. #ATchat
#ATIA18 looks great this year. Lots of great sessions, panels, the #ATchat Tweetup, #EdCampAccess Friday night and the #ATMakerspace on Saturday. Plus good vendors and new tools to explore. Who's going?
What considerations are needed to determine if a S qualifies or not? Are there observations involved? Data collected from staff? Are Ss put on a trial to determine if the tech fits S needs? Iām intrigued if you couldnāt tell! š§ #ATchat
Awesome! You both have to come. Wednesday night 8:00 in the Caribe Lounge, although we usually have to move to another location since so many people come. #ATchat
Weāve been lucky in that weāve been doing more of the consult model for quite some time. Thatās how we provide service to most of our districts. Evals are mostly done only for outlier districts that we arenāt already servicing. #atchat
Do your districts teach organization within the Google environment? I have found this to be a barrier, especially with students that have EF needs. #atchat
So sad to be missing #ATIA18 this year, especially since so many of my former colleagues from Boston will be presenting their great work! (I keep telling myself #ISAAC18 in Australia will be worth it!) #ATchat
It's Wednesday night at 8:00 in the Caribe Lounge. If there are lots of people who move downstairs where there are a lot tables. Find us at 8:00. #ATchat
I canāt wait! Iāll be co-moderating the Town Hall on 2/2 alongside @kbehnke@DangerOT and Lori Noordergraaf, and will definitely be joining the ATchat tweetup and edCamp on Friday. #ATchat

Most AT users are utilizing iPads so we have other tools that focus on organization. Our middle school uses Chromebooks, so I begin the switch over for the 6th graders as part of their transition plan so they are prepared entering MS. #ATchat
Well, everyone seems to be a little different in the way they implement RTI, but the language is more familiar, & AT is a fairly easy fit into that framework. #ATchat

I have found some Ss with EF issues have beautifully organized toolbars and bookmarks bars. The EF organizational issues disappear when they don't have to deal with paper. #ATchat

#atchat speaking of collaboration... I recently collaborated with an amazing T. We were able to provide a student with the tools to use Read&Write to access a book the class was doing, and then use his AAC device to deliver a book report to the class! There were tears shed!
Ya, we have completed the online survey - over 500 took part. 340 professionals/160 parents. Focus group session planned for Feb in Boston. Some very interesting data for both sides. Working on the app selection model algorithm now. #atchat
I think G Suite & Google Classroom offer nice built in organizational features for sure. Students do sometimes struggle with renaming documents, though, and tend to have several āuntitledā docs! #atchat
This came up today in conversation about a particular S who struggles with organization of paper materials, yet this immediately disappears when presented with the technology! When the tools work, they work! #Atchat
The hard part is getting all staff to Transition with the students to this new forum. I'm finding varying levels of carryover, especially at the HS level. #ATchat

But I worry abotu ownership and the expert model. How can we build capacity if gen ed and special ed teachers don't take the initiative to learn, plan and implement? #ATchat
Definitely would change things... Iāve been covering OT caseloads 2 days a week since Oct...starting to get time back now and have tons to catch up on, follow up mostly... #ATchat
Like I said earlier, I worked with a 3rd grader who is working at a 1st grade level for reading, writing and spellling and had no access to AT or tech. How could the team think this was ok? How come no one considered AT Accommodations while they are receiving remediation. #ATchat
It is a beautiful thing to watch when the team working with the student does. Ss feel successful and confident and it becomes a part of the everyday...and not considered an afterthought. #ATchat
#atchat this is true (and why i said i like to tell myself it's about awareness). I just had a meeting about this yesterday. Change takes a long time unfortunately. We came away talking about the change we do see, even tho it may not be happening at the speed we want.
#atchat it boggles my mind. I see the biggest influx of referrals when Ss are transitioning (elem to jr hs, jr hs to hs, out of hs), and it only happens bc somebody sees they are about to leave with no AT access.
I need to improve my turn around time for writing up AT Evals. Always wait till the last minute which the tyranny of the urgent. #procrastination#ATchat
Not just because it's where I work, but I think some of this needs to start in pre-service programs. Teachers/SLPs/OTs/admin all need to know AT & AAC are important tools & not extra, always left to specialists. #ATchat
I'm excited because this semester 3 of my clinic practice students are also taking my AAC class. It's so fun to see that overlap of class & clinic learning. #ATchat
Yes, and we won't have those one or two kiddos that feel like outliers or abandon tools and accommodations. If it benefits a couple Ss, it benefits so many more!
