AT screeners are reducing that for me, but weā€™ve also had a sharp increase in Ss with very complex needs so it doesnā€™t seem like it has. I did the math earlier this month to prove I wasnā€™t going crazy.
      In reply to @KarenJan
  • adaptechcf Jan 24 @ 8:20 PM EST

Seesaw is an electronic portfolio tool that works for home/school communication also. Students can take pictures of their work, add text and video or audio recordings. It really is awesome - look into it! #ATchat
    In reply to @abmglass
  • wernedat Jan 24 @ 8:22 PM EST
Famous answer - It. Depends. For Ss that will need lots of higher end equipment, the full eval is a support towards funding because it pushes for more data accountability #ATchat

With a consult, we can quickly consider SET and make the Tool recomendations to Trial. Return in two to four weeks and assess implementation and response and make new recommendations if needed. Its quicker implementation #ATchat

I set up the AT screen to parallel the RtI intervention model since my district understood that language. So, no, itā€™s not in IDEA in this form, but itā€™s best practice for interventions which has helped the buy in #ATchat

That's the real trick-having people WANT to take ownership of the process. Switch from "your job" to "our job" #ATchat

Like I said earlier, I worked with a 3rd grader who is working at a 1st grade level for reading, writing and spellling and had no access to AT or tech. How could the team think this was ok? How come no one considered AT Accommodations while they are receiving remediation. #ATchat

Are there resources that people are currently using in Transition programs (18-21) to help build ownership and advocacy of tool use? #ATchat

It is a beautiful thing to watch when the team working with the student does. Ss feel successful and confident and it becomes a part of the everyday...and not considered an afterthought. #ATchat

#atchat this is true (and why i said i like to tell myself it's about awareness). I just had a meeting about this yesterday. Change takes a long time unfortunately. We came away talking about the change we do see, even tho it may not be happening at the speed we want.

#atchat it boggles my mind. I see the biggest influx of referrals when Ss are transitioning (elem to jr hs, jr hs to hs, out of hs), and it only happens bc somebody sees they are about to leave with no AT access.

  • VickiBostonSLP Jan 24 @ 8:52 PM EST
Not just because it's where I work, but I think some of this needs to start in pre-service programs. Teachers/SLPs/OTs/admin all need to know AT & AAC are important tools & not extra, always left to specialists. #ATchat
