Q2: A respected Edu of mine has said "Hope is not a strategy." While it isn't a strategy...why is HOPE so important in what we do? #IDedchat
  • tracyscottkelly Jan 3 @ 10:16 PM EST
A1) continued) For example, i hope that i can finish my disserration. Then i work on it, goal, and then it is done. I hope my Ss like me as a teacher. I then support them and learn with them, goal, we achieve. #idedchat
  • HalLRoberts Jan 3 @ 10:16 PM EST
#IDedchat Hope may not be a strategy, but we should have a strategy on how to give hope to kids.
  • goodn3rd Jan 3 @ 10:16 PM EST
A2 Hope is what helps us care to even make a strategy, let alone work for it and revise it as needed. #IDedchat
  • averyteach - Moderator Jan 3 @ 10:17 PM EST
Love it! Your hope helps craft your goals and your actions to get there! #IDedchat
    In reply to @tracyscottkelly
  • WinkelerD Jan 3 @ 10:17 PM EST
A2: Hope gives one life. It gives one motivation. #idedchat
  • HalLRoberts Jan 3 @ 10:17 PM EST
A2 hope is learned, just like hopelessness, by the environment, the culture around them. #IDedchat
  • TheLaneFloydEdu Jan 3 @ 10:17 PM EST
    This... #idedchat
  • LCHS_Bio Jan 3 @ 10:17 PM EST
R2: we plant seeds everyday. Sometimes those seeds germinate and grow. Sometimes they don’t. We water them and tend to them like try all will sprout. Without the “hope” of this happening, why do we do what we do? #IDedchat
  • averyteach - Moderator Jan 3 @ 10:17 PM EST
    Hope=Care - great point TJ! #IDedchat
    In reply to @goodn3rd
  • lizidaho Jan 3 @ 10:17 PM EST
A2: I think it’s important because it focuses on a positive outcome. #IDedchat
  • tracyscottkelly Jan 3 @ 10:18 PM EST
A2) I hope my Ss are motivated. I then teach them how to motivate themselves while makibg sure they believe in themsleves. #idedchat
  • averyteach - Moderator Jan 3 @ 10:18 PM EST
That is an interesting point Hal - tell us more about this. How can environment foster or teach hope? #IDedchat
    In reply to @HalLRoberts
  • mlhoofer Jan 3 @ 10:19 PM EST
R2) right, “hope” is not a strategy, but if I have none, why do I go in each day? I go to class filled with the hope I am making a difference today. #IDedchat
  • Jennifer_Hogan Jan 3 @ 10:19 PM EST
Hi, Janet! I think HOPE is the fuel for our "Why." :-) #IDedchat
    In reply to @averyteach
  • HalLRoberts Jan 3 @ 10:19 PM EST
We need to create a culture of hope, show kids we care, show them how to work, succeed….we need to teach hope #IDedchat
  • averyteach - Moderator Jan 3 @ 10:19 PM EST
A2: Hope and Vision are interrelated. Without hope we can't see where we are going...or come up with a strategy to get there. #IDedchat
  • HalLRoberts Jan 3 @ 10:20 PM EST
hello friend! Good to see you here. #IDedchat

R2: HOPE isn’t going to win any TOY awards, but instilling HOPE in our Ss can help raise them out of any situation they are placed in. No matter their race, religion, SES, etc. #IDedchat
  • averyteach - Moderator Jan 3 @ 10:21 PM EST
Q3: So...how are Hope and Growth Mindset related? #IDedchat
  • HalLRoberts Jan 3 @ 10:22 PM EST
If that teacher continues to kindle hope in hopeless kids year after year…might just be a candidate for TOY. #IDedchat
    • LCHS_Bio Jan 3 @ 10:20 PM EST
R2: HOPE isn’t going to win any TOY awards, but instilling HOPE in our Ss can help raise them out of any situation they are placed in. No matter their race, religion, SES, etc. #IDedchat
  • tanamschroeder3 Jan 3 @ 10:22 PM EST
A2: as a new teacher hope is what gives me my purpose. I️ hope everyday to be the teacher they never forget, the teacher who inspires. #IDedchat
  • HalLRoberts Jan 3 @ 10:22 PM EST
A3 #IDedchat I believe you can’t have hope w/o a growth mindset, but sometimes this is misunderstood…growth mindset take time and work.
  • averyteach - Moderator Jan 3 @ 10:23 PM EST
    Yes - your WHY! :-) #IDedchat
    In reply to @tanamschroeder3
  • LCHS_Bio Jan 3 @ 10:23 PM EST
R2: hope might be a two way street also for our Ss and ourselves. We hope they get the material. The Ss hope (whether they admit it or not) that they can learn the material and pass. They don’t come to us wanting to fail, get in trouble, etc. #IDedchat
  • tracyscottkelly Jan 3 @ 10:23 PM EST
A3) Without hope, there is no growth. This is where are Ss in poverty really struggle. #idedchat
  • WinkelerD Jan 3 @ 10:24 PM EST
A3: If you don't have hope, it is hard to learn and grow. #idedchat
  • HalLRoberts Jan 3 @ 10:24 PM EST
A3 I believe what we are talking about is hope as a noun….#IDedchat that is something to be strived for and taught, and reinforced, and inspired to achieve.
  • averyteach - Moderator Jan 3 @ 10:24 PM EST
A3: Teaching a growth mindset to students - helping them shift their thinking - can give them hope that learning is not impossible. #IDedchat
  • TheLaneFloydEdu Jan 3 @ 10:25 PM EST
A3) Hope leads to something unattainable if a growth mindset does not accompany... How are you going to go to where you "hope" to if the growth does not help you get there? #idedchat
  • LCHS_Bio Jan 3 @ 10:25 PM EST
R3: This. And to piggyback, instilling hope takes work also. All hard work takes time. It might not be something that we see tomorrow or next year or whenever. We instill the mindset that will pay off down the road. #IDedchat
    • HalLRoberts Jan 3 @ 10:22 PM EST
A3 #IDedchat I believe you can’t have hope w/o a growth mindset, but sometimes this is misunderstood…growth mindset take time and work.

R3: It takes one success from a struggling student to facilitate an opportunity for continuous opportunity for growth. My job is to believe in my Ss, give them hope, and get them to that opportunity. Once there, I have established something! #IDedchat
  • estone77 Jan 3 @ 10:29 PM EST
A3: to me hope and growth mindset go hand in hand. We have the hope and we instill the power of yet #IDedchat

The power of YET gives hope and then I️ see my Ss persevering even when it’s hard. If they feel hopeless they quit. #IDedchat
  • HalLRoberts Jan 3 @ 10:33 PM EST
A4 as you brought up growth mindset, teach it, so that students hear it, feel it, see it everyday over and over that they can grow, get smarter, increase their IQ, but it takes work. #IDedchat
  • LCHS_Bio Jan 3 @ 10:33 PM EST
R4: just like everything, it must be modeled. Hope should be celebrated and when that hope turns to success, it should NEVER be overlooked. #IDedchat
  • averyteach - Moderator Jan 3 @ 10:34 PM EST
That is the heart of it right there! Students who understand that learning doesn't stop - it is a process - they know to keep working at it - that alone is hope. #IDedchat

A4) I am not sure you can teach hope. Hope is internal and personal but we can teach growth... I hope that made sense ;-) #idedchat
