My year so far in a gif... lol.
Hello everyone! Anthony Meals from the Blizzard swept land of Kansas! 8-12 Ag Educator and bus driver, blessed life! Excited for chat tonight! Year's been a lot to chew on...that said its been a great one this far! Double dipping with #teachpos and #BookCampPD
A1: I show my students that I am thankful for them by putting my heart and soul into my plans, my teaching, and my interactions with each of them. #teachpos
A1: I do my best to make sure that all Ss and Ts I work with each day know that I value them and their input. I listen intently and look praise wherever I can.
#teachpos
A1: I make sure to greet them everyday, and start off our mornings by telling them I'm happy to see them. I ALWAYS make sure to tell Ss that have been absent, that they were missed! #teachpos
A1: Not only tell them but show them. Spend time listening to them, getting to know their likes & dislikes, learning about them inside & outside of school #teachpos
A1: I have conversations with them. I tell each one that I'm happy they're at school that day. Before they leave the media center every single time, I tell them that I love them and to have a great day. #teachpos
A1: I work to greet each S personally - I have learned almost all names in our 260+ school, that has been my goal for the year. I work to go deeper with those I see who are struggling a bit more than normal. #teachpos

A1: I tell each student I'm happy to see them, each day! I try to make sure to have at least one positive engagement with each student over the course of the period. #TeachPos
A1: I meet my kids at the door with a smile. I try to put my best ideas to make their learning purposeful and their time well spent. I try to bring a bit of stability and routine into their chaotic lives. #teachpos

#teachpos
A1: I'm a sappy teacher so I tell them often how thankful I am for them. I also give them random rewards like @ProdigyGame time just because. #teachpos
A1: I connect with my Ss and let them know they are an important part of the school. When they talk about not liking school or wanting to be there I make sure they know that they play a central part in the success of the school. Empowering them. #teachpos
A1~
~actions/words show lots of love ❤️ for them
~biggest fan & advocate
~I’m always in their corner
~we shine together & when the dim days/moments arise, we work together ~ we are darkness busters 😊

A1: I tell them!! I’m looking so forward to seeing them tomorrow after our long Thanksgiving break - they will know by the look on my face when I greet them at the door that I missed them and am so excited to see them! ❤️ #teachpos
A1: Up until several minutes ago, I would have type family, but it is the end of an extended break and everyone needs to go back to school. Poor decision making and now temper tantrums because there are consequences for being mean. #teachpos
A1: I tell them I am proud of them, send messages home, we have a school wide positive shout out. Most importantly, tell them thank you I appreciate x,y,z. #teachpos
A1: I send digital Thx notes to students w/ @givethxapp to express #gratitude for the positive things they do for our class and school. I also love doing 2-3 positive phone calls home each day. Always catches the parents and students off guard! #Teachpos#GiveThx
A1. Showing Ss that we care about them and believe in them! Celebrating their successes, step by step, with them! Listening and sharing their stories, asking questions, finding information about their int. , likes and dislikes. #teachpos

A2: Many times, through notes or just a "thank you". The most subtle way, however, is a change in the classroom for the better & always checking to see if I'm watching & recognizing them! #teachpos
A2: Ss show their appreciation of Ts kindness & empathy inherently though no classroom issues. How great is it for Ts to see Ss pay it forward with kindness & empathy?
#teachpos
A2: My Ss show their gratitude with little notes, sweet treats, offer me their snack, try to help with my duties, and help keep the room clean. Some also do it with hugs and random fist bumps. #teachpos
A2: I have the best Ss. They ask if they can do anything to help me, offer hugs if they see me upset or a little stressed. A few told another T that I should be a guidance counselor, that was the best one yet. Let's me know they feel safe talking to me. #teachpos
A2: I get hugs, hand drawn pics, and even a "On my breaks, Mrs. Mueller, I kinda sorta miss you." I also believe that my kids work extra hard to achieve my high expectations when I show them kindness. #teachpos
A2: They work hard in my class. Even though it isn't graded and there is no accountability after they walk out the door, they still respect the learning. They also thank me by asking me to sponsor their clubs or asking my opinion about things important to them. #teachpos
A2: I don't need to hear it. The best way is just watching students take ownership over their own learning. Once they do that, they can do anything. #Teachpos
A2: My Ss give me notes and will verbally say things to me about how they appreciate me. As well, when I meet with Ps they say that their child has great things to say. Little gifts randomly appear. They’re the best! #teachpos
They write me the sweetest notes, draw precious pictures, and give the best hugs! (I teach kindergarten - so my Ss are very free with their expression!!) #teachpos
A2: They trust me...even when the content is hard or it doesn't make sense just yet. They stick with it because we've built a sense of community in our classroom. I so appreciate that from my kiddos...they're not afraid of a challenge! #TeachPos
Ours is awesome! We submit a Google form, the assistant principal calls them up, they get a candy bar, a letter and a phone call home to their parents. One parent started crying and wanted to know the size of the letter because they were framing it. #teachpos

A2: I got to read a "Reading Autobiography" from a former #Room407 student who is now in undergraduate studies in Secondary Education. In her piece, she cites our stance in regard to Reading Counts. And she appreciated the freedom to read without quizzes. I was moved. #teachpos

A2~ the best ways of all are when they treat each other w/kindness & empathy ~ esp when those hairy moments arise in school ~ I often find myself with “tears of joy” &step back, let it all sink in &then we talk about this ~ FYI awesomesauce =thankfulness
#Teachpos
A2: They stop by each morning to say hello & get hugs, say goodbye each afternoon, leave me thoughtful notes & bring me homemade goodies to display on my desk. They take time out of their day to think of me which shows they care #teachpos
A2: I create time for them to write digital thx notes w/ @givethxapp to their peers and teachers (and admin). It helps make it a positive habit & it provides safe access for those not comfortable publicly doing so. It also happens to be positively contagious :) #teachpos#givethx
A2: Asking students for feedback is the best way for us to know why they think and feel. Sometimes it’s not what we want to hear, but being responsive and showing kids that we care and hear their voices is so important. Hugs help too. #teachpos
A2. Our Ss will write thank you notes, tell us when they really like and enjoy learning in an activity or project. Ss will give us hugs! Share special stories with us, too! #teachpos
The student had included a picture of me she had found out there in Google images wherein I am standing in front of our #Room407 book cases. It was a nice touch. And sentiment. We were able to reach one of them. There are more, I know. In time, we'll reach them too. #teachpos
A3: I plan to continue greeting all Ts and Ss with a smile and genuinely asking them how their break was. I also support, praise, and offer help where possible, any time possible.
#teachpos
A3: Tues & Wed I get to facilitate math lessons using #MinecraftEDU & next week we start our #GeniusHour projects using LAUNCH cycle from #LAUNCHbook - it's going to be epic! #teachpos
A3: I am having my students write their goal on a post it and hang it on my door. I will continue to teach from the heart because my kids deserve it. #teachpos
A3: I will work with my co-teacher to create a data wall outside between our two rooms where Ss will set a goal and track their journey to achieving it! They get excited about moving that point forward! #teachpos
A3: Empowerment and Ss choice. My major focus for my Ts going into our second trimester is Ss choice and empowerment. Putting the learning on the Ss to help them with owning their learning and how they learn. #teachpos
A3: One thing I will not do is ask about break. For some of our babes, break is the hardest thing. Instead, I will tell them how glad I am they are back. That this place is not the same without them. #teachpos
A3: I've thought about this for a week. Tomorrow, my Language Arts class will be no less rigorous but more student-centered with many more student choices and opportunities to write creatively. #teachpos
A3: continue to select texts & tasks based on their interests and things they’ve shared with me. If I show them that I care, they will care. I want them to know that their opinions are valued & what they think matters-especially to me. #teachpos
A3: As a coach I have been working hard with my colleagues to design and offer an all day PD that is personalized completely by educator choice. Can't wait to offer this opportunity for personalized PD that will trickle down to our learners. #teachpos
#teachpos
A2: They show up and understand that while we're not always at our best, we'll be there for one another to make the learning experiences and community always safe and hopeful. We listen to each other and work for each other.
A3: We will be integrating AR/VR this week. That will be fun & exciting. Can’t wait for our Ss thinking about how to use these for their presentations! #teachpos
What will I do to inspire ... push the kids ... make their head hurt ... redefine what is possible. Just another day in the Green Dragon Studio #teachpos
A3: Be inspired by what I teach! I need to be a model of curiosity and wonder. If I don't teach like this is the first time I'm learning it...how on earth am I going to get kids jazzed about winterizing a landscape?? #TeachPos
A3: I'm coming back to #Room407 after an extended time out of the room. NCTE/ALAN and then Thanksgiving Break. I'll show some of the pictures from Houston of authors we read and know. Reconnect with the work together. It's a sprint toward Winter Break now. Need to slow. #teachpos
A2: Students are pretty vocal about what we get right and don't. Before Thanksgiving, @KalchbrennerELA and @mdeegan122 posted challenges on Ss' lockers encouraging to show others kindness. Amazing experience. Had Ss thanking me for what I do. #teachpos

Amazing answers. Here is my challenge. Make sure you follow-up on your goals for tomorrow. It has to be actions and words that matter. Here is the bonus Q #teachpos
A3~continue to love them with all ❤️ I’ve got & then some more... we will also welcome a transfer S to our classroom & show him that love, 2nd chances& a better tomorrow around fabulous, often spicey 2nd graders, will help him to be his best self ❤️❤️❤️ #StarfishClub#Teachpos
A3. Continue greeting Ss with a smile and enthusiasm.. Give Ss opportunities to share together, reflecting, answering questions, exploring, experimenting! #teachpos
Each teacher has to do what works for them ... how i do my classroom would not work for the majority of teachers. Heck i am not even sure why it works for me. #teachpos
A3: Of course, being away from #Room407 for #NCTE18 and #ALAN18 means that my return comes with Book-Talk-A-Palooza-Extreme. We'll have new books to share with our readers. And new insights into some of them I can share from being with the authors and illustrators. #teachpos
A3: Create more time for them to share more about their feelings and listen more on my end. Helps build relationships that support everything, including my own work. #teachpos#givethx#grateful

A3: Few things going to do but one is start my kindness movement in class and beyond. Started with gratitude in November and now kindness. Spread everywhere! #teachpos
Bonus Q: I was going to say family, but I see someone else said it. So I will say supportive. we all support and help each other and work together. :-) Also my Ss no that not only is it okay to help me if I need it or make a mistake, but I appreciate their input! #teachpos
