let's talk with right now!
Ready to talk leadership this evening
Q1: Are leaders born or made in education or in any field? (the development question)
A1-Leaders can be born, but they can also be made.
A1-A little of both. You have to have drive/passion, but you can learn some aspects thru practice.
A1: Leaders can be born and made.
A1: If given the opportunity and the drive is there, leaders are MADE, but a leader can be born as well
A1: They're made of support in a risk-taking environment!
A1: may have innate characteristics, but leadership is developed & honed over time https://t.co/BucmHg2dX5
Q1: Are leaders born or made in education or in any field? (the development question)
Thx for the invite Shelly TX 5th Hi!
Yes...risk-taking is key...though sometimes hard to find in education.
Q2: Leaders support the mission like this image. Is or should this be true in education?
. I always look to hockey teams when they name captains in this regard, rarely is a captain named just by stats or name
A1 We need to get an early president in as well, as he is talking about everyone's ability to be a leader https://t.co/NczKMNb0tN
I would have to agree. Being able to take those risk and learn from those experiences are important. https://t.co/tsCZXaSCjb
A1: They're made of support in a risk-taking environment!
A2: The best leaders lead by example and get their hands dirty as well, whether it's a CEO, principal, military officer, etc.
A2-Definitely. I think in ed it's important that the leader is involved and not just dictating
A2-It should be like that..., but I know some schools aren't because of other factors...though I still hold out hope they can.
Great Q2! A2: yes, great leaders are willing to do as they ask. Trenches=team building!
A1: Lead by example! Leadership is not about being in charge. It is about taking charge for those you lead https://t.co/DeLjUqMtFz
A2:Leaders need to lead by ex. & see what is going on in the daily trenches. Otherwise leaders will not knw what is/isn't wking.
Q3: In , sometimes it is just as important to develop someone else as it is to lead. Is this being done in education?
Great point! Being in the trenches is the only way to know what's working and what isn't
schools that r usually like this are the ones that the moral is low and the leader does not trust his/her staff. ;(
A3-Sometimes. I believe administrators should be instructional leaders not paper pushers, micro-managers, etc...
A3 I think in some schools it is, but those are unfortunately few and far between. Hopefully a movement of change can happen
trust and a leap of faith. we are stronger together.
A3: Not as often as it shld but your exemplar leaders do this on a daily bases. Schools need more than one leader to grow.
A3: This is happening at with Working to develop teacher leaders in and out of the classroom https://t.co/7WpXrqcS7J
Q3: In , sometimes it is just as important to develop someone else as it is to lead. Is this being done in education?
A3: Good ldrs don't forget where they came from, try to help out in any way that they can, even if ruffling feathers has to happen
I've always believed that is a and we should embrace it completely.
A3: I think so. If not, it should be. Great leaders build their team up... Develop autonomy!
A3 cont.: by helping develop T ldrs, it helps to have somebody to help at all times outside of a principal's busy schedule
Thanks for the mention! carr_8: Come join TheOddCentricT drroberts
Of course it happens in education - but it's not always what makes the news or gets attention. And it is sometimes hard to see
Q4: Do you feel there are too many or not enough leaders or in education currently? Why or why not?
Leaders need to take risk and it is okay if we fail. These are the best learning experiences we have.
https://t.co/mfZZJJpIlc
I also think T ldrs help moral and develop everyone and increase ownership of the classroom for the Ts
Yes! Autonomy is important because it allows for that growth mindset. https://t.co/yPemWlTkPf
A3: I think so. If not, it should be. Great leaders build their team up... Develop autonomy!
A4: Amongst schools, not enough ldrs on staff; in many districts, "too many officer, not enough grunts"
A4-Too many people think they are leaders when they aren't. Self-proclamation is not leadership. Let your peers or others decide.
I second what said. Too many chiefs at the district level, need more to feel empowered to lead @ school level
Q4: Depends on your definition of Every teacher is a leader (& should be!) Leading the future https://t.co/8ZaqqxLEzW
Q4: Do you feel there are too many or not enough leaders or in education currently? Why or why not?
A4: Not enough leaders, but there are plenty of ppl who can "manage." Leaders build, take risks, innovators, collaborate, etc.
Sorry I missed out! Would loved to have chatted w/you leaders. Sick kid needed her mom.
Q5: As a leader in edu if you could change one thing across your school/district/state/nation, then what would it be & why?
I think until our schools are overflowng w blossoming S leaders & our districts full of empowered T leaders, there aren't enough
A4: depends on which direction they're all going in. Too many with different directions is chaotic.
Soooo agree! Wish more understand the quote. Focus on the big picture solution, not just a fix.
A5-Great question. I think we have focused way too much on testing and need to bring the creativity back into classrooms
I agree.Many businesses aren't ran the way we run our school districts.They allow 4 empwring &innovation https://t.co/5uEPHegPa1
I second what said. Too many chiefs at the district level, need more to feel empowered to lead @ school level
If I was a leader with enormous power: Push for the demise of high-stakes testing for Students.
A5-Every few yrs, leaders should get back into the classroom, grade, interact w/ Ss & Ts, & teach! Would be mind blowing!
A5: focus on all options for Ss after HS, college is great it's not for everybody, there are shortages of workers in other areas
Yes. Too much focus on college It's not for everyone, Some great options for trades schools, apprenticeships, etc.
A5: standardized testing bc this doesn't allow Ss to show what they knw nor does it meet all Ss lrning styles.
Just read an article today how construction trades are short right now because of unqualified candidates...
Focus on College & Career Ready! Love it!
Sorry I missed out...Will check tagboard
Thank you for joining tonight’s on .
I've gotta run but really glad I had time to join you tonight. Love this conversation & hope it continues in NV!
A3 I think so. I noticed that myself and many teachers take time during RTI & other parts of the day to really help
A5: Pay teachers what they are worth, once that's off the table, teachers can focus on teaching https://t.co/CmgJ7PpaSN
Q5: As a leader in edu if you could change one thing across your school/district/state/nation, then what would it be & why?
Continue the conversation by using the hashtag all week long! See you next Monday @ 8pm PST.
Continue this conversation in our EDUNV Voxer group as well!!
Great idea! I think most leaders would enjoy that change in culture & the opportunity to renew passion https://t.co/OGkl5GzCv9
A5-Every few yrs, leaders should get back into the classroom, grade, interact w/ Ss & Ts, & teach! Would be mind blowing!
A1 . Yes. But I think we are leaders even before going into education. It is a calling and not a career
People don't realize the hours that go into edu. A day doesn't go by that I'm not doing something related to teaching.
