Q1: Outside of a straightforward history lesson on the life of Former President Bush, what is one way you can take his Presidency, which ended 26 years ago, and turn it into a relevant learning experience for your students tomorrow? #makeitreal

A1: We could watch his son giving the eulogy and talk about what we might want our own legacy to be. It might sound morbid, but I've had students write eulogies as part of a creative writing class #makeitreal
I was a high school senior during Desert Storm (yeah, fine, do the math). I feel like kids would connect with our own memories/experiences. What was it like for US having him president? #Bush41#MakeItReal

A2 I would consider using the letter President Bush left to Bill Clinton as a close reading activity and writing activity. Such a poignant and graceful letter between two leaders.
A1-With any person in history it is critical to challenge students to understand their contributions to society. How did he make the world better? How did he use the time he had to impact? How are current leaders similar or different to his contributions? #makeitreal
I love "perspective" pieces like this. It was a very different world just 26 years ago (computers, phones, internet, etc) and our kids could investigate and compare how a president affects life in the US and communicates to people then and now! #MakeItReal
Q2: A funeral for a President is rare and receives national and international attention. What is one creative way you can use today’s actual funeral service as a tool for learning?

My first instinct is to shudder at the comparison... But it's interesting to see Bush's inaugural address quoted now when wean't it considered kind of a dud? #MakeItReal
A2: in a strange coincidence, while reading about the funeral I got an ad popup asking if I knew what burden my "final expenses" would be on my family. Compare that with today's cost for Bush's services! #MakeItReal
A2 I like the idea of eulogies of inanimate objects, especially for Littles. I wouldn’t want the focus on a funeral. But how would a rock or mineral be eulogized? Or finally solving a math problem, let’s eulogize it. What would that look like? #MakeItReal
Q3: Imagine this:
You become President in 2020!
At the end of your life...many, many years from now, what do you want people to say about your Presidency?
#MakeItReal
A1: Though I wasn't alive during Bush's presidency, I was incredibly moved by the tributes to him today. He is respected as a man and a father, & did great things for this country.. I think it is important for Ss to understand who he was & what he did for our country. #MakeItReal
Wow...eulogizing a math problem. Sounds interesting. Do we do it after it's been solved, or when we couldn't solve it? I'm pretty sure there are plenty of people interested in burying math :) #MakeItReal

A2) What aspects of the service reflect our American values, or how human beings mourn? What do we make of the particular language used in the eulogies and the reactions to it all? It could be a political, sociological and/or psychological angle. #GeorgeHWBushFuneral#MakeItReal

A3 I am going to steal a line from my son @mjstoner10 and I would want everyone to remember that President Stoner took the nation to new highs!

A3 Great question for kids! For me? I was fair. All meant all. I was kind. I made a difference. I was passionate. I wanted things better than the day before. Kinda sounds like teaching. 😉 #MakeItReal
A3- she impacted the nation and made it a better place. She acted from a balanced place and reflected/responded before reacting on major issues. She strengthened our economy and used her position to advance our country advocating and supporting all people. #MakeItReal
He loved his family, he loved his country, he was a leader of all Americans. And he changed some lives for the better in this country and around the world. #MakeItReal A3

A2: It's important for Ss to be on top of current events. I'd make sure Ss could view the President's service and reflect on this man and his service to our country, whether through discussion or writing. I would ask them what it means to be an American in this time. #MakeItReal
A3: so technically speaking, I wouldn't be eligible for the Presidency until 2038...I've thought this one through. ;) I would want the nation to feel like I served them well, and understand my heart for this great nation of ours. <3 #MakeItReal
