The Breakfast Club – #BFC530 – is a 15 minute, 1 question Twitter chat every weekday. We chat in 4 timezones Mon-Fri – 5:30am Eastern, Central, Mountain, and Pacific Times. The mission of BFC is to empower participants to make a difference in education by engaging in consistent reflective practice in a supportive community that inspires and challenges one another.
Grow with formative fail-forward reflection. What did we learn in the process? What options are no longer live options? What paths arrive at dead-ends? #BFC530

I read a book My favorite part of me and then the kids took a pic and wrote about their favorite body part. It was fabulous. (Not my idea, but I loved it) #bfc530
Back when Starbucks had "The Way I See It" quotes on their cups, my classes came up with criteria for a good quote, wrote their own, glued to cups, and hung in the hallway. So much fun to read their quotes and to watch others stop in the hall to read. #bfc530

Creative lessons - my favorite is doing tableau! I need to do more of them. I love to give the opportunity to ‘feel’ or ‘participate’ in the emotion or moment before learning or writing about it. Powerful stuff at times. #bfc530

So true. I play an interview of his for my baseball players as he goes through his thought process in that about. Both inspiring & educational. Make the most of your opportunities. #bfc530
Good Morning #bfc530
Sometimes I have my Intro To Computers class do Pixel art in Excel. Kids can be very creative even in spreadsheets:) Then my daughter came home yesterday doing it and was having a great time...
Did you know - teh first Australian to win gold at the Winter Olympics was a speed skater called Steve Bradbury.
he won because everyone else fell over.
To keep trying and surprisingly succeed is known as "doing a Bradbury"

Morning everyone! enjoying reading abt your creative lessons. I do genius hour every Friday so looking forward to seeing more creativity today that the Ss develop themselves :) #bfc530
I am still asked to do the end of the first acts of both GLASS MENAGERIE and DEATH OF A SALESMAN.
My Amanda Wingfield is still popular, and I'm closer to Willy Loman's age than ever!

#bfc530 I use the #TwilightZone to teach #character development, #plot, #theme, universal elements of a #story, and mood. It also supports RL 7.7, and the interpretation of a story told in different forms. Did this yesterday; one of my favorite #lessons
everything in PSD is creative :)but I LOVE the Creative Curriculum Building theme.we travel the world w/out leaving our class, I set up a construction zone (hard hats & all), a sensory building center, &we utilize technology 2tour the most famous buildings in the world #bfc530
I’m drawing a blank! I don’t know about creative, but reading aloud to students is always a joy & even our “sophisticated” 5th graders enjoy hearing a great story just for the joy of a great story. #bfc530
Upon reflection, I really like any math lesson where my Ss are engaged and talking. I tend to group and regroup often in the course of a period. #bfc530
When explaining the digestive system, I would put my lunch into a zip lock bag and have the students churn it. Then I'd poke small holes to release the liquid, and then the wasted material would be left. #bfc530
So awesome! Basically kids are in groups and are given a scene to portray. They have to silently act the scene - motionless and silent (no props) - create a picture. They are tasked to show the emotion of the moment and hold it for several seconds. #bfc530

Awesome! They can argue the Business Case for it, whether it be @ gentle one or one you need a 4WD to get over! Authentic Learning at work right there! #bfc530
Creative assessment-
When teaching Forensics (Entomology specifically) S's wrote newspaper article about a crime (they created)-had 2B scientifically accurate-also able 2B understood by layman. EX-if said orifice-had 2 explain 2 reader what that was

It was so funny at the time as there was a very public competition between 2 aerial skiers to be the first Aussie to win gold and this guy became famous out of nowhere #bfc530
Oh that reminds me of when My #gamedev kids were displaced due to PARCC so we made Game Release Posters of the original games they were making. Kids did a great job:)

Some of our best lessons are student-driven during play in our K class...amazing how they authentically apply so much of what is explicitly taught! #bfc530
I like it when we integrate our #STEAM concepts into our lessons ... discussing the artistic side of political cartoons .. the role of music and dance as a means of understanding history #bfc530
QR code scavenger hunts #Rock!
Our student services coordinator @SarahMLuczak did one when we had a group of counselors from area schools come to visit. Creative way for them to learn about what we do at our school. They loved it!

The last year I was in the classroom (3rd), I was the Head Chef & my students were my Sous Chefs. We tried to tie food into as many lessons as possible. Used Jaime Oliver’s stuff to cook in the classroom. It was a great year! #bfc530

Run a class auction to discuss basic economic terms. Surprising how much "money" kids will spend on things like Unicorn Meat and the early 80's kids toy Milky the Marvelous Milky Cow #bfc530
I've heard him speak and he makes a big deal about how he knew he was not the best but he thought the others were taking too many risks so he just hung in in case #bfc530
It sounds fictional but a true story! I remember watching it on TV. I teaches a really important lesson. You can have the skill, the strength, the stamina, the agility but sometimes what makes you a gold medal winner is perseverance & the ability to seize an opportunity #bfc530
One year we did a huge space unit; my classroom was covered floor to ceiling with a variety of student projects.... and then the Challenger exploded. We were all so crushed. Everyone was #BFC530
I took the first team of all girls to a interschool hybrid car race. We watched Cool Runnings as inspiration. At the end they carried their car over the finish line #bfc530

Chris, have you used "Memoirs of a Goldfish" in your Kinder class? Great read, and great for discussion! The kids would probably love it. #bfc530 I use it to kick off narrative writing.

The bobsled requires the entire team to do their part, and then to trust the leader. The sled cannot run without everyone on board. How does your team function? #tlap#bfc530
I'd just like to take this opportunity to remind everyone of the greatest moment in Winter Olympic - nay, OLYMPIC - history, featuring Steven Bradbury of Australia, winning gold. #winterolympics#openingceremony
Communication. When there’s a lack of, I try not ignoring a feeling, immediately address it, and communicate appropriately. When anyone starts talking behind ppls back (Ss or Ts), it can get like Real Housewives quick. #bfc530
