#UKEdChat A1 I had all my boards backed and usual helpful signage (place value system, word lists, thematic) done before end of last term. My classroom is always changing so is never really done but I have been in for an hour or two here and there all over the summer
A1. Some organisational and administrative and preparations aspects need doing in advance of the new school year; but I would argue a lot can only be done once the learners are back in class. #UKEdChat
#ukedchat A1 in the summer holidays. Usually after a couple of weeks break to rest and re-set and not the day before going back. Depending on the team/school there is sometimes opportunity to 'get the slate clean' in the last week before summer - allocated time. I love this!
A1. The week before the children arrive. Although this year I am hoping to just get the basic structure up on the walls and put scaffolds up to help the chn as the lessons go along. Therefore, the chn contribute directly to building the displays. #minimalist#ukedchat
A2. We abandoned the term “working wall” in my school: it became a bit lost and tokenisation. We have “working rooms” - classroom environments which support, encourage, challenge and celebrate learning. #UKEdChat
A1 I usually 'do' my classroom in the first few weeks after breaking up in July to keep ideas flowing, but this year I'm going in the week before the kids are back. It's actually been nice to totally switch off!! #ukedchat

A3. I’ve heard of a couple of schools in the Isle of Man where children are encouraged not to wear shoes inside. One of my teachers has tried it in one of my schools too. https://t.co/8BXA9fONlm#UKEdChat
A3 I find it hard to claim anything 'brand new' I am constantly sharing, learning, searching & using innovations from others (I love teaching for this)& adapting for my own setting. I often make up my own songs (& with children ) to instil classroom behaviours etc #ukedchat#EY
A2 - Sometimes a beautifully tidy and organised learning space, sometimes a bit of a mess but useable. Former from 1st to 10th Sept, latter 11th to 20th August ish... #ukedchat
A4. I think it’s linked into the wider ethos of the whole-school. But it helps to have classrooms which are well-resourced (including quality HRs) and carefully designed to suit the learners and particular dynamics of the class. Pupil focussed, learning focused. #UKEdChat
A4 Failure is accepted, challenge is embraced, learning and expectations are consistently modelled and most importantly it is fun and lively with lots of opportunities for the children to express themselves! #UKEdChat
A3: I'm going to be a hobo next year with lots of different classrooms. Will have to think how to manage that (ideas welcome). Luckily all my stuff on my laptop... Innovations will have to be more about not losing learning time because I'm rushing from another classroom #ukedchat
@ukedchat#ukedchat A4 I would like to think my classroom is a good place to learn because it is an inviting space! It may be smaller than my previous music room but I've tried to make it look like a place my pupils feel safe to learn.
A4: Resources on wall to help GCSE students, groups of tables to encourage group work but students can easily move to breakout from groups, large windows for natural light and with an unappealing view so no distractions #ukedchat

A4 for me it’s getting a good balance between pupil voice and teacher leadership. Asking pupils what they want to learn at the start of a subject, me deciding what we can/can’t do with the curriculum and then giving them choice in HOW we learn. #ukedchat Also, smiling helps!
A5 #UKEdChat Children do the most work and I try to steer them only when they are way off the mark. Children can be themselves and so can I while maintaining the appropriate respectful boundaries
My desk is too big and can’t be moved out the room ☹️last year got rid of my desk after reading some cracking articles about making the space all about the kids. It also means I invariably horde more post it notes than anyone needs! #ukedchat
A5 Other than 30 children? Creating a culture of imagination (hooks, wows and provocations) means the possibilities are endless. I have the joy of continuous provision where children apply & experiment. I often wonder why this approach isn't adapted for other yr grps. #ukedchat

What could you have in your classroom as a minimum and still be able to teach your subject/age group effectively?

So. We know we bang on about film being important (because children make 3.75X more progress than average) BUT digital projects are a way of connecting with the world. Individually addressed letters from an MP back to a class is evidence of that.

Ah I am a big advocate of Talk4Writing and a washing line is an amazing route way through learning in all subjects. Also a great reference point for children when scaffolding is needed
A3: direct vocabulary intervention at FE! Each lesson will start with 10 new words and an etymology or morphology game before starting the content to help close the vocabulary gap. Hopefully this will improve essays and thus grades #ukedchat
@ukedchat#ukedchat A8 I would adore to have a range of instruments and drama equipment for pupils to use to engage pupils in my subject areas. Unfortunately, budgets and priorities have been unkind to the arts since ebacc...
