We did a clever scavenger hunt crafted by @MsWoodBmore this year. Built relationships and deepened knowledge of the community...local architecture, closest barista, etc. #BmoreEdchat
Agree about parents loving photos. And it’s a great way to get students taking about what they’re doing in school. Snap pics of student work, students presenting to class, or hard at work. 👌 #bmoreedchat
There exists pictures of me in an Elvis suit #late70sElvis , it was a sight #BmoreEdChat sometimes the leader has to bring the fun, no matter what the cost.
A3: Our “Open House” isn’t confined to a small window of time; 7am-8pm, families can come at their convenience to tour the school. It alleviates a barrier for everyone. #BmoreEdchat

A4: we shifted our teams up this year to expand the idea of teams and renamed all teams PLCs to try and shift culture and have all staff see everyone as part of their team #BmoreEdChat
A4: Providing time to get to know one another inside and outside of school. Engaging in book clubs, enjoying a meal together, and engaging in social events like paint night. #BmoreEdchat
A4: Get out of the building as a team...we loved night outs such as bowling, restaurants, escape rooms...getting to know people on a personal level. #BmoreEdchat
A4. I host #happymail at my school. Staff members are partnered anonymously and they have to leave a note\ gift of encouragement in their partner’s mailbox for an entire semester. Then we repeat it with new partners during semester 2! #BmoreEdchat
A3. We do team outings but 3 of us have worked together for 13 years. We also go out for lunch on in service days. We get along great. We joke a lot. The newer guys fit right in. #BmoreEdChat
My principal @kellyaoconnell encourages and supports cross-grade level planning. I try to share resources with other intermediate teachers. It sparks conversation and team building. There is also scheduled time for co-planning. #BmoreEdchat
A4: Get out of the building as a team...we loved night outs such as bowling, restaurants, escape rooms...getting to know people on a personal level. #BmoreEdchat
A5: I do Friday dance parties during entry and dismissal with students to celebrate all their hard work during the week! #BmoreEdChat#TeamHeron#WorkHardPlayHard
A5: Get out to recess and lunch with the kids. Sitting down with your class (and your lunch) in the cafeteria is such a great way to bond with your students. #BmoreEdchat
A3. Our annual arts showcase has great participation. Students serve as docents. Emphasis is placed on how the arts are used across subjects. The standards are highlighted so parents can see the learning goals. #ParentsAsPartners#BmoreEdchat

A3: thanks to #ProjectLITbookclub I’ll be inviting parents to join us in our monthly book choices. The we will be able to host community events to discuss the texts and the cultural topics they present. #bmoreEDchat
A6) Communication and honesty. When we hold honest conversation with each other, I am able to learn and grow. Everyone brings their own perspectives and experiences to the table. It’s important to listen and use the perspectives to form trust and unity. #BmoreEdchat
A6 Teachers, students have to feel supported - that the people around them are working with/for them.
I'm working harder towards this; removing judgement and emphasizing supportive language and choices. #BmoreEdchat
A5: To build classroom community we share good news every day w/ our table or to whole class. It helps us stay focused on positives. We also greet each other w/ fist bumps, Ss grab peers notebooks to help, we journal and table share our words & share beautiful words #BmoreEdchat
A6: I think community breaks down at schools when faculty and staff start assigning relative value to tasks. The AP Calculus Teacher is no more important than the cafeteria assistant, they all play a role in the student’s experience, value each interaction #BmoreEdChat
Q7: If you could pass advice to a new teacher about building community and positive relationships with students and parents, what would it be? #BmoreEdchat

A6 Community connectedness is possible with creating the points of contact, like valency in atoms. Some people have more points to share and connect, others need time, encouragement, and conditions to facilitate it. #BmoreEdChat
A6: one thing is to show up to games/performances of your students. I did that during my internship and it changed they way the kids saw me from that day on. Ever since I go to plays/recitals/games etc that my students are in just to see them out of the classroom. #BmoreEdChat
